First of all, thank you for helping me out!
I'm considering to jump over to SingNet. however, I'm quite concerned whether I can still use their digital voice. Let's say I register for the MIO Home plan (Digital voice +broadband+mioTV), can I use another wireless router (say WRT54G) to handle the wireless network, while still attach the digital voice and MioTV to the 2wire modem given? will the Digital voice and MioTV function as normal?
or if not, is there a way out? or must I sign up for SingNet fix line first, then sign a normal broadband plan? (I don't have a singnet fix line yet) If I don't need to use phone a lot, and don't need the TV, which one is the best in terms of prices?
ps. when I read the tech spec of Speedtouch 516 modem, it writes:
- Up to 24Mbit/s downstream and 1.2Mbit/s updtream on ADSL2+ networks, Up to 8Mbps downstream, 832kps upstream on standard ADSL lines.
Anyone knows whether SingNet is ADSL2+ or standard ADSL?
Thank you in advance~

Do you mind to explain in details? thanks.
Mio Home
Thanks. Yeah, i did check out Mio Home, it's fine and ok. My only concern is that whether I can use my own router (connecting to 2wire modem, so that the router can do the routering, while 2wire modem only does the job as a modem, and in the meanwhile i can still use digital voice).
I tried to search the forum and cannot find related information on this...

Digital Voice = Starhub Cable Modem
Mio Home = 2WIRE ADSL Modem
did you see the difference in the modem typed used?
if you are still on starhub TV contract you are still eligible to use Digital Voice.
Else remove all the subscriptions from Starhub and go get Singnet Mio Home (it have something like Digital Voice from Starhub which is called Mio Voice)
for your 2nd question: yes you are able to use your own router to treat the 2WIRE modem-router as a standalone ADSL Modem...
that technique is called "bridging" search the forums here on how to do bridging.
but with bridging you are not able to have MIO Voice any longer.

Thank you very much for the explanation. That's my concern in this case.
need additional hw
What other hardware do I need? It would be great if I can use my own router...

If that's the case, maybe I should use fixed home telephone line + normal Singnet broadband, instead of MIO plan? Anyone use this combination now?

Thanks MarineX for the reply.
Are you referring to MIO Home plan?
mio Home is a bundled service plan comprising of the following 3 home services
at one fixed monthly price,
• mio TV
• SingNet BroadBand
• SingTel Home Line
Based on my calculation (take the 10mbs broadband + others, $56.90/mth for example), the cost is almost the same as analogue line + broadband, only extra thing I got is the 15 movies per month. and they charge extra for using analogue line as well.
and I presume that in order to watch mioTVs, I have to use the 2wire as modem+router right? my main concern is whether I can attatch another router and make 2wire be the modem only, while can still use Digital voice/MioTV.,...

Hi! I'd like to know how to config the Mio box and the Router in that combination, yet retain the Mio Voice capability too! bought 1 new router yesterday, asked the shop guy if it's ok, and he said yes. had problems with it now..sigh

I forgot where I heard it but my understanding is that:
1. MIO services (TV & Digital Voice) requires use of either the 2wire or Speedtouch 536 modem.
2. Technically, I heard that operating the modems in brdige mode will not disable the MIO TV
3. Conversely, MIO TV bandwidth is in addition to whatever plan you signed up.
4. Digital Voice needs to be sipported by an ATA unit with the FXS/FXO ports which the 2wire has.
5. I was told the digital voice still works as it plugs into the modem directly even if the modem is operating in bridge mode.
I did not sign up for digital voice as they wanted additional $3pm for it vs analogue line. My monthly local calls charge in under $1 so no point.
However, I am experiencing intermittent failure DNS/gateway failure on my HGV2701E so I may have to press my old Speedtouch into service while I bring the 2701 to the service centre....
My suggestion:
1. Make sure digital voice is working first with 2wire model-router.
2. Then switcj the 2wire to bridge mode and test! Think you got better than 50/50 chance!

No.5 is not correct, as far as I can tell base on prev experience.

I am using 2701HGV-E. Possible to configure to do bridging using other router and still retain the use of Mio voice and Mio Tv? The wireless abit weak thinking of changing or use homeplugs but not sure where to buy home plugs that can be used with Comtrend's.
