View Full Version : Internet access all messed up after unplugging/replugging?

Hi guys.

Recently, the family bought a new TV/living room console, so we had to unplug the entire internet set up and redo it in the new console.

Previously, I had my SingNet 2wire connected to the wall socket through a DSL filter, and then I had a LAN cable into my spare Linksys as the SingNet crew told me it would be faster when they came to set up my 2wire previously. Some of my computers were connected wirelessly, and my own laptop is connected directly through LAN (so there're three LANs connected, one to the Mio box, one to LS, and one to my laptop)

I've set it up the same way in the new console, but for some reason, my internet's totally messed up. I have problems connecting to the Linksys wirelessly. Most of the time I get "Local Access only". Same with my LAN connection into the 2W, either I get "Local Access only", or my laptop shows it's connected, but any page I try to load takes a ridiculously long time before returning the error "The page cannot be found", as if there was no connection.

Removing the LS router seems to have solved some problems, but my torrent speeds are unbelievably slow. Again, direct LAN into the 2W, which gave my blazing speeds before. Now I can't even connect to an active torrent with 1000+ seeds/peers. I've already done the port forward thing with the port my uTorrent uses, to no avail.

Anyone know why this would happen? Why would my LS router suddenly fail to work after I redid the setup exactly? And why would my torrent speeds drop so drastically?

And why is the LS there in the first place?
What exactly is this console?

The LS was a leftover from Starhub when I changed to SingNet. When the SingNet tech came over to install our new Mio/2W at that time, he suggested that arrangement for a higher speed.

The console is simply a cabinet for the TV and stuff. It's just another name for a cabinet for this purpose lol.

My torrents have gotten better, but still not as fast as before. And there's still the LS issue I'm puzzled over, in addition to the other problems that have plagued my last few days.

The person isnt supposed to recommend a 3rd party eq.
Unless it function purely as a switch + AP device.

Oh. I didn't know, he told us it was his own recommendation, but that it would be faster. So I should just leave the LS out of the equation? How about the massive slowdowns I've been experiencing? Before, I could use the internet for hours straight, no problems, but after the replugging, it slows down to an unuseable rate after maybe two to three hours. Pages like Google, Ebay, Hotmail, all experience a few rounds of "This page cannot be found" before finally showing up after multiple F5's. Even took me two or three tries to get this page to load.

try reset ur settings to factory default for ur 2wire then re-enter ur singnet details.

after which, try ur lan performance.

usually for 2wire - LS the 2wire is set to bridge mode. guide is under xdsl subforum.

Did you connect the LS back to 2wire EXACTLY the same way after installing the TV console?

I got a feeling you connect the 2wire to the LS wan port now when previously it's connected to a lan port. Likely singnet tech suggested u keep the LS to simplify his installation of the 2wire by just connecting it to LS lan port and disable LS dhcp, making the LS works as an AP only. With LS dhcp disable, your PC is not getting an IP assigned properly and hence the problem.

Hmmm, I didn't know about the different modes as the tech did everything for me. I'll check it out thanks.

Wow, that's a good technical explanation, but I'm not really that tech savvy lol, so I don't think I fully understand what you mean.

Regardless, you mentioned different ports? My LS has a row of ports number 1 to 4 (I assume these are LAN ports) and another port called "Internet". Should my LAN from 2W be connected to Internet? 'Cause I forgot how he connected it previously, but when I did it myself I put it in to the port labeled "1".

Since you are not familiar with networking, what you can do is try connecting to the internet port and test also since connecting to lan port 1 doesn't work.

It could be the opposite of my earlier explanation, ie singnet techie connect 2wire to LS internet port and hence with LS dhcp enable. Now by connectng 2wire to lan port instead, you've 2 dhcp on your network which may cause your PC to be assigned with wrong gateway.

So try testing with both ways of connecting.
