View Full Version : Laptop causing the entire network to disconnect

We're currently using Starhub's Maxonline: 2 PCs and 1 laptop connected to the network, all via cable. The problem starts when the laptop is switched on. Our internet connection will experience intermittent drops. All 3 users will have 'Connection Interrupted' messages and this will happen on and off until the laptop is turned off.

This problem seemed to occur a few weeks after I'd switched to a voice enabled cable modem (for Digital Voice). We never had any such issues before. We've called SH and their technicians have come down twice w/o managing to solve the problem. Sometimes our internet works fine for hours with all 3 users on. But the connection drops will certainly occur almost daily unless the laptop is not in use.

Has anyone a solution for this? Is this due to the laptop, modem or router? All of us have set our computers to obtain IP address automatically (no static IPs in our network). Any suggestion is appreciated! My apologies if this has been highlighted in a previous thread. If so, please direct me to it. Thank you!
