Hi

What is the best wireless security encryption from the options bellow?
these are the options I have in my router admin panel:

64-bit WEP
128-bit WEP
802.1x
WPA
WPA-PSK
WPA2
WPA2-PSK
Mixed WPA2/WPA
Mixed WPA2-PSK/WPA-PSK

I know WPA sucks compared to WPA2, so we can forget about the ones that have WPA in it.

better security = WPA2-PSK
better compatibility = Mixed WPA2-PSK/WPA-PSK

older devices

this brings me to another question:
how do I know the device i'm trying to connect to and the device i'm trying to connect with are compatible with a WPA2-PSK or any other type of encryption I choose ?

I mean, it's in the menu of the router admin panel, ok, after I choose the encryption and try to connect to the internet from the laptop with the encryption key - it works, I got a working internet connection.
so is that it ? or could I have a working internet connection even if the encryption is not supported at one end ?

Check see if your client can accept the relevant encryption not.

Example:
Dev A can accept WPA2
Dev B can accept WPA1
Dev C can only accept WEP

Therefore, you can only set WEP in your router.

the wireless internet connection works with WPA2/PSK set on the router - doesn't that mean the encryption is supported on both sides ?

If u can connect, of course it means the client can accept the type of encryption.
