As above. What's the difference? Is it warranty? I read somewhere that the Expansion series uses the old Maxtor line of drives.

Not true, Maxtor didn't have 500GB models. Expansion series is the lowest cost version of Seagate External Drives. It has lower warranty period (2 years). Freeagent go comes with a backup software while expansion doesn't

if u can find out where is the manufacturing plant...u will know its Original Maxtor or Seagate
or even Old quantum

Suzhou is OLD maxtor plant...
Wu xi is OLD Seagate Plant
Batam is Old quantum OEM...

if singapore....its a mix of both, but than singapore nowsday only produce high spec HDD...those we brought on the market are mostly from china.

most ppl will think that since seagate brought over Maxtor....maxtor brought over Quantum...than all should be one happy family....I hate it when I go to a shop when the sales person tell me Seagate and Maxtor is the SAME....they used different technology...I am not a engineering ppl...I only know its different...but which one is better, this has to leave it for the more techky bro to explain liao.

actually most of their plant still use back their previous technology...ask urself..change names easy? or change millions of dollars worth machinery easy??
these can only be done slowly over many years,
