My WD passport 500gb works fine when plugged behind the PC usb port and when I use the front usb ports, the device keeps disconnecting/connecting numerous times and it ask that I need to format this desk before using it. But when plugged behind, it immediately detects it and is ok. Is there any thing wrong with the HD? Is it front usb ports can't recognize huge sized HD?

its norm lah.... the front connection is via cable...back one is directly from the Mobo....so sometime it just happen lor.....

Get those dual usb head cables... i think maybe the front usb are not enough power...

You have another pc to test on??

yes, front ports less power. Happens to my HDDs too.

Yeah I do have another PC to test on..using windows xp its working fine. Probably its my front port not having enough power..is it all front ports behave the same way?
