I have 2x 300GB Seagate HDD, and 2x 320GB Hitachi HDD (which I just bought). Motherboard is ASUS P5WD2-E Premium with intel 975X chipset and ICH7R southbridge.
Original intent was to RAID 0 the 2x 320GB Hitach HDD and use the remaining 2x 300GB Seagate HDD in non-RAID configurations. Want to run my default OS windows vista Ultimate from the non-RAID HDD.
However in the BIOS, whenever I set the configuration to handle HDD as "RAID", I cannot load my OS from the non-RAID HDD, as it would hang and restart midway when windows vista was loading. Then again, when I set the configuration to handle HDD as the default "SATA" mode, I can load the OS from the non-RAID HDD, but it doesn't detect the RAID 0 HDD in the RAID 0 configuration.
Tried installing windows vista on the RAID 0 HDD and ran the BIOS in "RAID" configuration. Was able to start up from the RAID 0 HDD and detect the other 2 non-RAID disks on windows.
Questions are:
1. Is it possible to load my OS from the non-RAID HDD while detecting the other 2x Hitachi HDD in RAID 0 configuration?
2. Why does windows vista hang midway and restart whenver I load my OS from the non-RAID HDD with the BIOS in "RAID" configuration?
