Meanwhile, mobile broadband service at 21Mbps available from 3 October 2009

SINGAPORE, 1 October 2009 - M1’s HSPA+ network will now be able to deliver Singapore’s fastest mobile broadband download speed of up to 28 Mbps in selected areas after the completion of further network upgrade by Huawei.

The increased speed has been achieved with the installation of MIMO (Multiple-input-multiple-output), making M1 HSPA+ network the first in the Asia Pacific to adopt this technology. MIMO will be rolled out to the entire network progressively.

“The HSPA+ network upgrade and deployment of MIMO are part of our ongoing efforts to provide our customers with an advanced and innovative high speed mobile broadband network. We will continue to work with Huawei to implement state-of-the-art technology to ensure that our HSPA+ network remains one of the most modern and sophisticated networks in the region capable of offering our customers a rich suite of mobile data services,” said Patrick Scodeller, Chief Technical Officer of M1.

“Huawei highly values our strategic relationship with M1 and we are delighted to have been selected by M1 for the upgrade of its HSPA+ network,” said Jeff Liu, President of Huawei South Pacific Region. “MIMO is an important feature of HSPA+ to provide customers with super high speed broadband experience. The successful upgrade of the HSPA+ network with MIMO highlights the innovation and leadership position of both our companies in the areas of mobile broadband services. We will continue to work together to grow and advance the telecommunications industry in Singapore.”

Meanwhile, M1 will be offering mobile broadband service with download speed of up to 21Mbps islandwide from this Saturday, 3 October 2009. The M1 HSPA+ network has been capable of delivering download speed of 21 Mbps since July this year. However, the launch of a commercial mobile broadband service at this speed has been held back till now due to the unavailability of suitable devices in the market that could offer a satisfactory customer experience.

Hmm, why does it write 28Mbps in first paragraph when its only a 21Mbps network.
MIMO implementation means 3.85G liao

Maybe after the full upgrade can support to 28mbps?

Yup after the full upgrade can support 28Mbps... Meanwhile, commercially only 21Mbps available lo.. They hold back launching it till it's fully implemented islandwide..

The article seems to be saying 21Mbps will be available island wide now whereas 28Mbps will be available in selected areas and will be available to other areas progressively.

As usual, don't be too optimistic regarding the download speeed, "up to"....too many factors stopping from getting that speed, you are damn lucky if can get 75% of that "up to" speed.

28mbps / 21mbps represents the max link speed, not its effective throughput. this is especially true on a wireless medium which is always being subjected to a lot of interferance. Combine with internet traffic that is inheritally unpredicable even for an ISP with inifinte bandwidth where the choke point can be anywhere outside of the ISP link.

Okie lah cheaper than SH and the $82 price tag is before multi-line saver discount too.. Think SITEX will have 50% off usual price of $90+ again.. Lols..

But still I think as a wireless transmission, most prob will not be able to reach tt high speed leh..
