Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with my brand new DIR 655N DLink router.
The same cycle continuously repeats itself:
1. Set up wireless network without any security and hop on.
2. Change wireless network to have security (tried multiple standards) and can connect fine
3. Hours later generally after my computer has come out of sleep mode or I had turned the modem/router off - I cannot connect to the same network again
4. During all thsi time there are other networks in my building I can connect to, I ping 127.0.0.1 or whatever it is and it works fine.
5. I then try to unplug for up to 2 minutes and reconnect. Still no luck.
6. Finally I'll end up having to hard reset the stupid router about 2-3 times before I can actually reconnect to it. Note I cannot connect to it sometimes after the first hard reset.
--> during this I usually hard reset, then unplug modem/router wait 1 min and replug in - I'm trying to do it by the book here but this PoS refuses to obey
7. Then I go back to step 1 - and the whole cycle repeats itself.
During all this time the routers lights are on and functioning fine. My network ethernet card is messed up on my laptop so I cannot try a wired connection. My wireless Intel 4965AGN works fine and connects to multiple other unsecured networks in the building and always detects plenty of other networks. The modem is a high speed motorola SB6100i and seems to work fine too - when the wireless connection IS working its plenty fast. The lights on the modem also (referring to the manual) seem to be all in order.
The router actually appears to be broadcasting perfectly saying it is connected to the modem and broadcasting. I just can't pick it up once I have been disconnected unless I hard reset a lot. When I am connected it works great - speeds are fine. But after having this cycle repeat itself 4 times - anyone have any ideas?
Also I use an ISP called MobileOne So to connect to the internet, when I have a workign connection THROUGH my modem and using M1's line - the first page I enter is a login page, once I go through there it works fine. Could this login timing out over time be messing up the router??
Currently I am on my own unsecured network and posting this. I could not connect to my router after having hard reset 2 times already. However THREE times and now it works fine. PLEASE help.
I was thinking maybe I could use MAC address filtering to allow only my laptop to connect to the network - and avoid using security altogether?
