In the beginning it worked like a charm, loved it to bits. Then I discovered to my horror, ALL my other browsers can no longer work. I figured fine, its all right, least I still have my google chrome. In the past firefox had tons of problem with shockwave flash, hence me reverting back to internet explorer (which I hated due to it taking tons of resources) Was so happy with google chrome, then as of yesterday it started going crazy because of shockwave flash too. It might be because I downloaded the latest version of flash, so I tried going back to the previous version but the damage is done. Now my google chrome freezes all the time.
So I tried uninstalling google chrome. Which was a bad idea cause now my both my internet explorer and firefox cannot work.
When I tried windows network diagnostics it says it cannot communicate with web proxy 131.170.6.1.
What should I do? :(

Chances are Chrome messed up the internet related files associations.
Try opening firefox or internet explorer settings and set the "default" browser options.
bad -> if it still don't work... Try to set the Default Programs under control panel.
worse -> manually edit and restore internet related registry entries.
worst -> scan for malware/viruses/trojans...

Don't blame everything on Google chrome when you faced problem with internet browser, it might be other underlining problem lead to such failure.
By design and default, installing Google chrome will not disable any other internet browsers. Since you are in such undesire situation, go ahead to download IE8 and do not install it at the moment, uninstall the current IE7/IE8 then restart the system. Re-install IE8 should fix the browser problem if it's due to corrupted files in IE7/8.

Likely virus/malware infection, just like ntfs.sys always taking the blame when user debug the dump file and ntfs.sys seem to be the culprit to crash the system.

oh cuz there was another curious case of browsers cannot load pages after while then hang (freeze?)...was due to firewall, but no idea if related since i dunno wat this TS is describing...
and the separate flash issue, could be improper flash install/uninstall. but i again dunno wat "shockwave flash" this TS is describing...
if jus simple case of cannot open hyperlinks on email/desktop, then probably wat Rogue described... and of cuz cud be malware too. :)

Using norton anti virus.

I can open hyperlinks, no issues there. But my browser always freezes because of this software which calls its shockwave flash. I manage to get my ie to work now after playing around with the settings a bit. Don't know if I wanna reinstall google chrome though.

Looks like a firewall issue.

my bad, so shockwave flash = swf = flash? try reinstalling flash then:
1. save flash (ie) (http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/), flash (non-ie) (http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_firefox/), flash uninstaller (for windows) (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html)
2. exit browsers, run flash uninstaller, then reboot pc
3. reinstall both flash (ie) & flash (non-ie)
erm... might need to also test if norton causing browser problems, but need completely remove it, tho?
1. save ur license key (not sure, see #3 link?)
2. remove via add/remove programs, reboot
3. run norton removal tool (http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039)
