Reports in France insist that Didier Deschamps has decided to take over at Chelsea and not Juventus next season.
The Monaco boss (pictured) was supposedly in pole position to follow in the footsteps of Marcello Lippi this summer.
However, the L?Equipe newspaper today suggests that the former French international will replace Claudio Ranieri at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian media had been convinced that Deschamps would become the next tactician of the Old Lady.
If Deschamps does head for the Premiership then Parma?s Cesare Prandelli will be the new favourite for Juve.
Especially as he has asked the Stadio Tardini outfit for a bit of time to evaluate their offer of a new contract.
"I already told the club on Sunday that I needed a break to consider my options," Prandelli is quoted as saying. "But I haven?t signed anything with any other team."
As if the situation wasn?t complicated enough, a new name has been added to the mix of possible candidates for the Juve job.
Lazio?s Roberto Mancini, also believed to be a target for Inter, is being associated with the Bianconeri today.

Marco Di Vaio was the surprise element in Giovanni Trapattoni?s Euro 2004 squad, but there is controversy on his inclusion.
?I am very happy to receive this call from Trapattoni,? said the Juventus striker. ?I have always felt myself to be part of the group right from the opening qualifiers, so part of me expected it.?
There was a great deal of competition for that sixth forward role, freed up by Filippo Inzaghi?s injury worries, but many expected Alberto Gilardino or even Di Vaio?s Juve teammate Fabrizio Miccoli to get the nod.
?The wait to see the final squad names is always a bit of a nerve-wracking moment. Now we can get down to business.?
The former Parma man is one of five Bianconeri stars making the trip to Portugal along with Gianluigi Buffon, Gianluca Zambrotta, Mauro German Camoranesi and Alessandro Del Piero.
?My objective for this tournament is to be of use to the team,? he concluded. ?If I get to play for a single minute, I?ll be more than happy.?
Di Vaio?s inclusion has caused controversy, as the top Italian scorer in Serie A this season has been left at home.
?I would have brought Gilardino along,? revealed former Italy boss Dino Zoff. ?He has been the surprise package of the season and would have come in handy out there.?
Zoff was in charge of the Azzurri at Euro 2000, where they missed out on the trophy with a last-gasp equaliser and then a Golden Goal from France.

The executive began by questioning the long faces at and around the Delle Alpi.
"I think that this season is a failure only because we are used to winning every year," charged Lippi. "If you look at Inter, they are celebrating because they finished fourth, what should we do then?"
"We are working on the team for the next season now and you'll see that we will be fighting for the league again," he vowed. "There will be a new manager by the end of the week and a couple of interesting players will join Juventus too."

Prandelli Refuses To Extend With Parma
05/18/2004. Cesare Prandelli seems to have given the final hint that he will be joining Juventus as this morning he announced during a press conference that he will not be renewing his contract with Parma.
The gialloblu coach did not deny the Juventus link but stated that he will take 10 days to reflect about his future.
Yesterday, Luciano Moggi said that the new Juventus coach will be announced by the end of this week.

Great deal for Lippi as Juventus coach during the last two matches of the italian championship. Last Sunday a glorious match with Sampdoria, the old Lippi team for wich he played when he was a player and for wich he's been considered a symbol. And today again, with Siena in its loved homeland Tuscany.
He asked a great final to his boys and he's been satisfied. For the last time. After the 2-0 with Sampdoria, now he obtains a 3-1 with Siena.
200 are the victories in is Lippi's career. "I'm so happy about it", he says. "At the end we reached with Juventus 69 match points, which place us not that far from Roma that gained the secont place."

hope we make a good signing...i have doubts over his ability..
Jonathan Zebina has oficially signed a five-year contract with Juventus after a move to Milan fell through.
The deal has now been made official by Juventus, who tied him to the club until June 30 2009.
?It is an honour to play for the Bianconeri,? the Roma defender told the ?Gazzetta dello Sport?. ?I have only ever scored one goal in my entire career and that was against Juventus, so perhaps it was a sign.?
The Frenchman netted the spectacular volley in the closing stages of the 2-2 draw at the Stadio Delle Alpi in September, but has often been criticised for his performances.
Out of contract with Roma on June 30, 25-year-old Zebina had been heavily linked with Italian Champions Milan.
But when they opted to snap up Jaap Stam from Lazio instead, Juventus courted him in a bid to solve their defensive worries.
This year the Turin giants have had their worst defensive record for many years by conceding 42 goals ? more than double those let in by Roma.
Zebina is a veteran of the Serie A scene since joining Cagliari in 1998, while he moved to Roma in the summer of 2000.

05/20/2004. The deal that will take Emerson from Roma to Juventus seems to be nearing its final chapter as the giallorossi have declined a Real Madrid offer, thus all pointing towards a transfer to Turin.
Inter are also in the run for the player, however the bianconeri have taken the lead and with a 12 million Euro offer should be able to land the services of the Brazilian midfielder.
So in the next hours, Luciano Moggi is expected to sign another Roma player after succeeding in bringing Jonathan Zebina on a free transfer yesterday.

05/21/2004. With Monaco almost certain of losing Didier Deschamps to either Juventus or Chelsea, the French club has already targetted its new coach: Guy Lacombe.
Lacombe currently coaches Sochaux and seems to be the ideal replacement for the departing Deschamps according to the Monaco management.

Bonera reveals Bianconeri dream
Sunday 23 May, 2004
Daniele Bonera is one of the top transfer targets for the big clubs this summer and admits Juventus have already started talks.
“I know that several of the top sides are showing an interest in me,” said the Parma defender, “but my dream would be to play for Juventus.”
The former Brescia man will turn 23 at the end of this month and is preparing for action in the European Under-21 Championships.
He is nonetheless keeping up to date with the latest transfer movements at the Stadio Tardini, as the club needs to sell in order to stave off massive debts.
“I have been told that the Juve and Parma directors have already spoken about me,” revealed Bonera.
“I hope the move can be completed, as it would be just fantastic to make my Champions’ League debut with the Bianconeri jersey on my back.”
Juve have also targeted Gialloblu stars Alberto Gilardino, who currently seems closer to Roma, and Bonera’s fellow defender Matteo Ferrari.
Meanwhile, it’s reported that Perugia will take Juventus youth products Davide Chiumiento and Victor Boudianski on loan if they stay in Serie A next season.
The Grifoni will enter a play-off with the sixth-placed side in Serie B to decide who enters next year’s expanded 20-team top flight.

hmmm...another free transfer..
Olivier Kapo has arrived in Turin after completing his move from Auxerre to Italian giants Juventus.
The Frenchman has been signed on a free transfer and he is getting to know his new footballing home.
"It was a great feeling to enter such an important world as this," said the 24-year-old after visiting the Centro Sisport training facility.
"I spoke with Ciro Ferrara and Enzo Maresca, plus a few youngsters, and it is a similar environment to the one at Auxerre.
"There seems to be a family feel here even if I?m well aware that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world."
The wide midfielder, who isn?t included in France?s Euro 2004 squad, has signed a four-year contract at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
"I can?t wait for the new season to start," he added. "What is my first objective? To learn Italian and then we?ll see."

The 21 has gone to Andrea Pirlo who wears the same number for his club, while Marco Materazzi has got the 23 for the same reason.
Squad: 1 Buffon, 2 Panucci, 3 Oddo, 4 Zanetti, 5 Cannavaro, 6 Ferrari, 7 Del Piero, 8 Gattuso, 9 Vieri, 10 Totti, 11 Corradi, 12 Toldo, 13 Nesta, 14 Fiore, 15 Favalli, 16 Camoranesi, 17 Di Vaio, 18 Cassano, 19 Zambrotta, 20 Perrotta, 21 Pirlo, 22 Peruzzi, 23 Materazzi.

Marco Di Vaio won?t be leaving Juventus as he actually expects to have his contract renewed this summer.
The former Parma man has been linked with an exit after failing to break into the Bianconeri first team.
However, the Italian international maintains that his immediate future will be with the Old Lady.
"Juventus have promised me that we will extend my agreement after the European Championships," he said.
"My current contract runs up until the summer of 2008 but I?m ready to put pen to paper yet again."
Di Vaio, who is part of the Azzurri?s Euro 2004 squad, has been linked with a move to Inter or Roma.
"If the club decided to sell me then they would have to sit me down to talk about it," continued the 27-year-old.
"For someone who plays for Juventus there aren?t too many options to stay in Italy. In fact there are only two, Milan and Inter."

Lecce striker Ernesto Chevanton has reacted with delight after hearing that Juventus are interested in him.
"I?m already imagining myself with the Bianconeri shirt and it would be a dream to join them," he said from Uruguay?s training camp.
"My international teammate Paolo Montero often talks about Juve and they would be the best option for me."
Reports that Juventus had made enquiries about the forward, who netted 19 League goals in the past campaign, first emerged last night.
Whispers suggest that Lecce want around £9m plus the one season loan of Lecce-born ace Fabrizio Miccoli.
"If this story turns out to be true and Juventus do want me then I would swim back to Italy," added the 24-year-old.
It?s unclear whether the Turin giants are willing to release Miccoli who did just miss out on a place in the Euro 2004 squad.
Juve are reportedly keener to offer Lecce cash and the services of youngsters Viktor Boudianski and Felice Piccolo instead.
The Old Lady of Italian football are looking for a new striker given the fact that David Trezeguet is likely to be sold.

I salute Conte!! Great Juve player :)
Veteran Antonio Conte has left Juventus after he rejected the club?s offer of a new contract.
"I?m leaving a Juventus side which has won many honours but is now about to start a new era," said the 35-year-old.
"I didn?t take the opportunity to renew my agreement with the club because I didn?t think the offer was right.
"Perhaps this is for the best though as a new Coach is on the way who I?m sure will be keen to do very well."
The midfielder was the outfit?s longest serving player after spending 13 years at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
He won 16 trophies in that time and was also made the club captain until he was no longer guaranteed first team football.
Conte, who played for Lecce and Italy on numerous occasions, now has his sights on club management.
"I still haven?t decided whether to retire from the game because I?m a bit confused right now," he added.
"The only thing that I?m sure about is that I want to be a Coach. That will either happen this year or next."

Moggi...what are u doing?
David Trezeguet?s Juventus career looks over after the Frenchman blasted the Italian giants.
"The club gave me their word but they haven?t maintained their promise," said the striker from France?s Euro 2004 training base.
"They shouldn?t act in such a way. I?ve demonstrated my worth and now it is up to them to meet my demands."
Trezeguet was probably making reference to the fact that he hasn?t been offered an improved deal by the club.
The former Monaco man is only tied to the Delle Alpi outfit until 2005 but talks over an extension have stalled.
That has led to numerous reports that Trez, who allegedly only earns the same amount as defender Mark Iuliano, will be sold this summer.
But it doesn?t seem as if the international is heading for the exit quietly, insisting that he will be missed if he does leave.
"I feel as good as ever," he added. "There is talk of Fernando Morientes and Alberto Gilardino joining the club.
"But whoever takes my place in the side will have to score 20 goals a season and that won?t be easy."
It?s understood that Trezeguet will either join Barcelona or Chelsea, as Juve don?t want to lose him on a free transfer next year.

quite surprised to see him as our new manager...but anyway...welcome to Juve!!
Juventus have made the unexpected appointment of Fabio Capello as their new coach following the resignation of Marcello Lippi.
Capello, one of the most experienced and highly-rated tacticians in world football, had one year remaining on his contract at debt-ridden Roma but has decided to take up a new challenge.
"Fabio Capello is the new Juventus coach for the next three years," said a statement on the official Juventus website.
The hiring of the 57-year-old coach follows on from Roma's recent sales of key players Walter Samuel and Jonathan Zebina to Real Madrid and Juve, respectively.
Juve were thought to have narrowed the field to just two former players - Monaco boss Didier Deschamps and Parma coach Cesare Prandelli.
The Bianconeri are looking to open a new chapter after a disappointing 2003-4 in which they failed to defend their Serie A title and did not win a single trophy.
Capello, a former Italy international player who shot to fame as a coach at AC Milan in the 90s, a team he guided to four league championships. He then joined Real Madrid and led them to a Primera Liga title.
Capello later returned to Italy and coached AC Milan again before moving to Roma, and he steered the Giallorossi to the Scudetto in the 2000-1 season. They finished runners-up in two of the next three years.
His exit is a worrying sign for Roma fans, with playmaker and captain Francesco Totti's status at the club looking increasingly uncertain.
Real Madrid have been linked with Totti, the player deemed by many in Europe to be the top player in Italian football.

he's even willing to take pay cut to join us....something muz have happened at Roma that caused him to do this...
Juventus have officially confirmed that their Coach for the next three seasons will be Fabio Capello as Roma?s collapse continues.
The club had been expected to name its new tactician as Didier Deschamps or Parma?s Cesare Prandelli some time this week following the departure of Marcello Lippi.
But few predicted this turn of events, as Capello had instead been linked with the post at Inter.
The official Juventus website confirmed the news this morning, adding that he had put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
Although no financial details were revealed, the Italian press maintains that Capello has accepted a pay cut to earn just over £2m per season.
The tactician will turn 58 next month and is a former Juventus player, winning three Scudetto?s with the club. He is one of the country?s most successful Coaches with League titles won at Milan, Real Madrid and Roma.
In his management career he has picked up six Championships, the Champions? League and European Supercup.
This deal has been kept extremely quiet and it?s now believed that the talk of Deschamps was merely a smokescreen while Director General Luciano Moggi performed his magic behind the scenes.
It is a particularly shocking move, as Capello had only last year revealed he rejected the opportunity to take over Juventus in the past as ?a lifestyle choice.?
He was also still under contract with the Capital club, but was able to free himself a year early due to late payments.
This is the latest disastrous blow for Roma supporters, as they have already waved goodbye to Walter Samuel, Francisco Lima and Jonathan Zebina ? the Frenchman also joining Juve.
Now that Capello has switched to their archrivals, it will put captain Francesco Totti?s position at the Stadio Olimpico into real doubt.
However, there was also bad news for the Bianconeri, as during the night Honorary President Umberto Agnelli passed away at the age of 69.

Roma ace Emerson is on the verge of joining Fabio Capello at Juventus, according to his agent.
The Brazilian has been linked with a switch to the northern giants and his representative is confident that he?ll now follow Capello to Turin.
"I still can?t confirm that we have an agreement with the Bianconeri but we are close," Gilmar Veloz is quoted as saying.
"The arrival of Capello at the club as their new Coach is undoubtedly a very important factor for Emerson now."
The former Bayer Leverkusen star will be sold this summer as the capital club risk losing him for nothing next year.
But Roma are keen to sell him to another side rather than strengthen their arch-rivals Juventus. However, Veloz insists the Old Lady are in pole position.
"We?ve spoken to both Real Madrid and Inter in the past," added the midfielder?s representative.
"We?ve been in contact with the Nerazzurri in particular after speaking with Marco Branca on three occasions but without ever reaching an agreement.
"To be honest, I think it will be very difficult to see the situation change from now on."
Whispers circulating around the peninsula today also suggest that Capello has asked his new club to sign Christian Vieri.
The Italian may still leave Inter before the start of the new campaign, especially as Alberto Zaccheroni has been confirmed in his job as Nerazzurri boss.
The two men seemingly don?t have the best relationship after they clashed on numerous occasions in the last few months

1966: Moves to AS Roma.
1970: Sold as a package with two other Roma players to Juventus in a deal which causes outrage in the capital.

1979 : Wins his fourth 'scudetto' and his only one as a player with Milan.

But Milan opt to appoint Arrigo Sacchi as their coach for the following campaign and Capello leaves football to work for Milan president Silvio Berlusconi's Fininvest company.
1991: Sacchi leaves Milan. Capello is finally given his chance as first team coach and leads Milan to the title with the side unbeaten throughout the campaign -- a record which still stands.
1994: Milan win their third successive title under Capello and claim the European Cup with a stunning 4-0 victory over Barcelona in Athens.
1996: Wins his fourth 'scudetto' as Milan coach but leaves the club after a contractual dispute.
1996-97: Moves to Spanish giants Real Madrid and wins the league title but declines a contract renewal and returns to Italy.
1997-98: Returns to Milan for a season but after a poor 10th place he leaves the club and takes a year out from coaching, working as a television commentator.
1999-2000: Takes over as coach of Roma and leads them to a sixth place finish.
2000-2001: With a team built around the talents of Francesco Totti, Capello takes Roma to the 'scudetto' after an 18-year wait.
2003-2004 - Roma finish second behind Milan in the title race but club's future is uncertain due to financial problems.
May 2004 - Signs a three-year contract as coach of Juventus.

Agnelli, who was also president of the Fiat car company, died at his house in Mandria, near Turin, 15 months after his older brother Giovanni passed away. His funeral will be held tomorrow in Villar Perosa, the Agnelli family's home village, at 18.00 CET.
Golden age
Agnelli became Juventus president at the age of just 22 in 1956 and stayed in charge until 1962, a period which saw the arrival at the club of legends John Charles and Omar Sivori and which brought three Serie A titles.
Honorary role
Between 1959 and 1962 Agnelli was also the president of the Italian Football Federation. He then took a long break from football until 1994 when he returned to Juve as honorary president. In the last ten years the Bianconeri have won five Scudettos and the UEFA Champions League in 1995/96.

MILAN, May 28 (Reuters) - Italy will wear black armbands in their friendly match with Tunisia on Sunday to mourn the death of Fiat chairman and honorary president of Serie A club Juventus Umberto Agnelli.
Agnelli, who was also president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) from 1959 to 1961, died late on Thursday of cancer at the age of 69.
The Italian news agency ANSA said a minute's silence would be observed before the start of Sunday's game in Tunis and at all Italian league games at the weekend. The FIGC has also asked the organisers of the European Under-21 championship in Germany to allow a minute's silence before Italy's match against Serbia and Montenegro on Saturday.
Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni, who worked under the Agnelli family at Juventus, said he was saddened by the loss.
'I had great respect for him. I recall Umberto Agnelli as a great sporting director and a very great business leader,' he told ANSA.
Agnelli's elder brother Gianni, who was more actively involved in the family's sports interests, such as Juventus and Formula One team Ferrari, died, also of cancer, in January 2003 at the age of 81.
Umberto Agnelli had a spell in charge of Juventus between 1956 and 1962, a time of rich success for the Turin team, and returned to a role in the club's management in 1994.
His death is not expected to immediately affect the ownership of Juventus, which is controlled by the Agnelli family's holding company Ifil with a stake of more than 60 percent in the club.

The news that Fabio Capello has joined Juve took AS Roma entirely by surprise and an emergency meeting has been called.
The club was seemingly unaware that their Coach was even in negotiations with the Bianconeri, let alone able to put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
Capello was still under contract with Roma, but was able to free himself a year early due to late payments in his wages.
?I have only one thing to say,? noted Director of Sport Franco Baldini. ?It will seem strange, but that?s what happens.?
Baldini hinted that he would stay on at the Capital club despite this astonishing turnaround and the now increasingly likely departure of Francesco Totti.
Vincent Candela was the first Giallorossi player to comment, as he was on holiday in France when told of the news.
?In the world of football nowadays I really have seen everything,? sighed the midfielder. ?I can?t be shocked by anything anymore.?
Capello?s swift departure has taken even the Roma website by surprise, as the news that this team is currently without a Coach has not even been confirmed on-line.
An emergency meeting has been called for this afternoon with President Franco Sensi and his collaborators now urgently forced to find a new tactician.
The fact that Sensi has lost his manager to the club he has repeatedly insulted ? including running verbal battles with Director General Luciano Moggi ? is particularly stinging.
Meanwhile, this switch has also caused shockwaves on the stock exchange, as Juve?s shares leapt by 8 per cent after the announcement was made. On the other hand, Roma?s shares plummeted by 4 per cent soon after.

Fabio Cannavaro revealed the reaction inside the Azzurri camp after today?s surprise switch.
?The Roma players were shocked and the Juve stars extremely happy,? explained the Inter defender. ?There was talk of Didier Deschamps and Cesare Prandelli, but Juventus conned everyone.?

Manchester United and Juventus are understood to be ready to slug it out to acquire the services of Monaco full back Patrice Evra.
The France international has enjoyed a stunning campaign and played a major role in the club reaching the UEFA Champions League final.
Evra was also named Ligue 1's Young Player of the Year and his form has attracted admiring glances from the continent's biggest clubs.
Italian titans Juventus have been long-term suitors of the 23-year-old and are rumoured to have offered ?8 million to Monaco several weeks ago.
The Red Devils are also reportedly keen on the left back and have been watching his progress this term with interest.
Evra is contracted to Monaco for a further three years but, after scaling such heights with the Principality side this term, may decide a move abroad will be beneficial to his career.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint Germain continue to be on the trail of Evra's team-mate Jerome Rothen, who is another to have revelled on the European stage this season.
Rothen has regularly stated it would fulfil a dream to play for PSG and Vahid Halilhodzic is expected to try to tempt the midfielder to Parc des Princes.
Monaco would be reluctant sellers but an offer in the region of ?8 million may prove difficult to refuse, if PSG can raise sufficient funds.

David Trezeguet has again warned he wants Barcelona and it?s reported his replacement at the Delle Alpi will be Christian Vieri.
?I cannot wait to sign for Barcelona,? the Frenchman is quoted as saying in Spanish newspaper ?El Mundo Deportivo?. ?I dream of getting the 100,000 fans of the Nou Camp on their feet and the club has an ambitious project.?
This is certainly not the first time that the former Monaco striker has been linked to Barca and earlier this week had had rallied against his current club.
?Juventus will want to earn as much as possible from my sale,? he warned. ?I?d like the deal to be concluded before Euro 2004 and the delay was due to the question marks over the new Coach.?
Now that Fabio Capello has been confirmed in charge of the Bianconeri, Trezeguet?s departure should rise to the top of the agenda.
Juve must now build the team to suit Capello?s tactics and that includes the need for a large front man. It?s strongly reported that his first choice would be Christian Vieri, who has been embroiled in a series of bitter rows with Inter Coach Alberto Zaccheroni.
The Nerazzurri could be tempted into a sale if Italian international Marco Di Vaio were to be included in the switch.
If Capello were unable to bring in Vieri, then his second option would be Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Ajax ? a player he already tried to sign as Coach of Roma.

Gianluigi Buffon is one of several Juventus stars who celebrated the news that Fabio Capello will be their Coach next season.
?Of course I?m overjoyed,? said the Azzurri goalkeeper. ?This is a strong signal from the club and one that will no doubt have an effect.?
Capello will take over from Marcello Lippi for the next three years and should make sweeping changes to the squad, including the arrival of Jonathan Zebina and probably Emerson.
?This means that Juventus want to get back to winning ways immediately and not just by laying the foundations for a long-term project,? noted Buffon.
The Turin giants ended this campaign empty-handed after losing the Coppa Italia Final, an early exit from the Champions? League and third-place finish in the Scudetto race.
Mauro German Camoranesi also learned of the news at Italy?s Coverciano training ground.
?Capello is a very prestigious Coach with a full trophy cabinet,? commented the Argentine-born winger.
?I?m very happy with this decision and his arrival is a very positive note for all Juventus fans."
"He did great things at Milan, Real Madrid and restored Roma to glory after their many years in the wilderness. Let?s hope he can help Juve to get back to winning ways as well.?
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Capello?s appointment was masterminded by Honorary President Umberto Agnelli, who passed away on Thursday night.
?It was Agnelli who wanted Capello on the Juventus bench,? explained President Franzo Grande Stevens.

The appointment of Fabio Capello to the Juventus job took everyone by surprise ? none more so than prime candidate Didier Deschamps.
?I admit it, I was very upset,? confessed the former Bianconeri player who had until Friday morning been in pole position for this post.
?I believed that within days I would have put pen to paper on a contract with Juventus, but instead something happened that I simply cannot explain.?
Director General Luciano Moggi had told the press earlier this month ?either Deschamps or Cesare Prandelli will be the new Coach.?
However, the wily transfer guru merely used them as a smokescreen while he carried on negotiations with Roma?s Capello.
Monaco boss Deschamps had also been linked with the Chelsea job, which now seems to be in the hands of Champions? League winning manager Jose Mourinho.
?I would never have expected to see Capello on the Juve bench,? concluded a clearly bitter Deschamps. ?I think that after all of this I will stay at Monaco.?

Juventus are requesting 23 million euros for Barcelona target David Trezeguet, but after recent meetings, it has become apparent that they may accept less if the Catalans were willing to send Thiago Motta the other way.
But Barca coach Frank Rijkaard sees the young Brazilian as a part of his plans, especially with Philip Cocu leaving the club this summer.
In fact, Barca are keen to extend Motta's contract so it doesn't look like he will be making his way to Turin in the coming months.

"However if this doesn't happen I might stay at Juventus for another year," he added. "The important thing is that when we play our first game in Portugal I can concentrate on France because I already know my future".

Juventus may be on the verge of intercepting Roma?s proposed move for Phillipe Mexes.
The Frenchman held talks with the Giallorossi last week where he agreed to a summer switch if a fee was sorted out between the two clubs.
However, he may now be having second thoughts after Fabio Capello, who he spoke with, left for Juventus on Friday.
That could now see the Auxerre stopper move to the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit who have also expressed an interest.
Capello is understood to have told the Bianconeri hierarchy that he likes the look of the defender who could strengthen a shaky Juve defence.
Meanwhile, whispers in the peninsula insist that Juventus have agreed terms with Udinese for Marek Jankulovski.
The 27-year-old has been linked with the Turin giants for some time and a fee is believed to have been ironed out.
The Friuli side will net £3.5m plus the co-ownership of Messina full-back Alessandro Parisi - who will be signed by Juve this summer.
The Czech international, who should feature for his country at Euro 2004, had also been linked with Inter, Roma and Parma.

Milan may face a challenge from Juventus in their bid to sign Lazio's Bernardo Corradi.
The Italian has been heavily linked with the Rossoneri but the Turin giants are monitoring the situation.
The Bianconeri had seemingly shelved plans to sign the forward but they have renewed their interest after the arrival of Coach Fabio Capello.
"If Lazio need to sell Corradi then a move to Milan may occur," revealed the player?s agent Moreno Roggi.
"But Capello?s switch to Juventus has increased their chances of signing him. Bernardo is the type of attacker that Capello likes."
Corradi, 28, could be targeted by the Old Lady as they are expected to sell David Trezeguet during the summer.
Meanwhile, Sampdoria are in pole position to sign Empoli starlet Antonio Di Natale over the next few weeks.
The Italian international forward will quit the Tuscan outfit after their relegation and numerous clubs have been in touch.
"We?re evaluating all offers," said his representative. "Palermo, Inter and Samp have been after him for some time. I can add that Doria are in the lead to net him right now."

Alessandro Del Piero maintains that he will make a telling contribution to Italy?s Euro 2004 campaign.
There are massive question marks over whether the Juventus ace should start after his performance against Tunisia last night.
Del Piero seemed to struggle at times during the 4-0 win which have led to calls that he should be dropped for the in-form Antonio Cassano.
But the former Padova player is confident that he will be in good shape by the time the tournament starts.
"I?m very satisfied with how everything is going," said the Italian ace. "In the past I?ve always been unlucky enough to arrive at major tournaments with fitness problems.
"But I know that in Portugal I will be in the right place at the right time. After all, I still have 15 days of training left before the tournament starts."
Del Piero also cooled reports that his form is suffering due to the pressure Cassano is putting on him.
"He isn?t a rival of mine but a new teammate," continued Alex. "I say new because we?ve spent little time together as he arrived in the national side when I was injured."
The Bianconeri captain didn?t have the best of tournaments during the 2002 World Cup but he believes there will be no repeat of that this time around.
"I went to those Finals as a first team player but then we changed tactics over there and I was left on the bench," he noted.
"If Trap doesn?t change the system (4-2-3-1) then I don?t think there will be too many problems for me."

Nicola Legrottaglie is hopeful that he will be a part of Fabio Capello?s plans at Juventus next season.
The defender, who nearly joined Roma last summer, had a difficult first term in Turin but is looking to bounce back.
"Capello already wanted me at Roma a year ago and I hope he still rates me despite the highs and lows of last season," said the stopper.
"I heard the news that Capello had joined Juventus through the media and it was a pleasing surprise.
"He is one of the best tacticians around and is a proven winner. He was the only man that could really succeed Marcello Lippi."
Legrottaglie did struggle at times as Juventus conceded a massive 42 League goals in the last campaign.
He suffered with numerous injuries and poor form which saw him also miss out on Italy?s Euro 2004 bid.
"After being a part of the squad that qualified for two years I?m really saddened that I missed out," he explained.
"I thought that I had at least a 70 per cent chance of getting a call. I knew I hadn?t had the best of seasons but believed that I had done enough in the last two years for my inclusion."
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Capello has asked Juventus to make a bid for Fabio Cannavaro.
The Italian international, 31, could be tempted to leave Inter after never really settling at the San Siro.

Emerson has told Roma to forget about trying to sell him to Real Madrid as he wants a move to Juventus.
The Spaniards have been in negotiations with the Giallorossi and a £12m bid has been tabled.
But the Brazilian, who is only contracted for another year in the Italian capital, only has eyes for the Turin giants.
"I?ve been informed of the agreement between Roma and Real but why didn?t anyone tell me? This all seems very strange," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I was contacted by Real in January but they considered my demands as too high. It?s odd that they are interested again after I promised myself to Juventus.
"The Bianconeri have been straight with me from the start and Roma know what my problems are. Therefore I won?t change my mind - I want Juventus."
Some Roma fans have labelled Emerson as a traitor for even considering a move to their deadly rivals but Emerson has defended himself.
"I?ve always been good to the club," he explained. "Last season I remained despite an offer from Chelsea.
"I then turned down a move in January when President Franco Sensi asked me to stay and help fight for Lo Scudetto. I?m no traitor and my conscience is clear."
Roma really do not want to sell such a quality player to a club who they don?t have the best relationship with ? especially after losing Fabio Capello and Jonathan Zebina to them already.
"It isn?t my fault if there is great rivalry between Juventus and Roma," added the South American.
"It is just a professional choice of mine. The fact that Capello is there is simply coincidental. I want to join Juve and I just ask Roma to make that happen."

ROME (AP)? Christian Vieri seems headed to Juventus, Francesco Totti is considering Real Madrid, Bernardo Corradi may join AC Milan and Giuseppe Favalli has already left Lazio for Inter Milan.
The Italian national team is in the final stages of its preparation for Euro 2004, but the ever-present "mercato" is on everyone's mind.
Nearly every major paper in Italy on Thursday had news of Vieri's impending move to Juventus from Inter.
The Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Juve had already come to a secret agreement with Vieri and the only hold up was Inter's approval of the deal. Another national team member, Marco Di Vaio, was reportedly slated to go to Inter in exchange.
Inter is said to also want Juve midfielder Enzo Maresca.
"We've received requests from many clubs, but our line hasn't changed. We don't have anything on the table," Inter owner Massimo Moratti said Thursday. "It will depend mostly on the desire of the player. For now, we're evaluating."
Vieri already played one season for Juventus in 1996-97 and enjoyed the experience, which included his lone Italian league title and a run to the Champions League final. He was considered a favorite of late Juve president Giovanni Agnelli, but club manager Luciano Moggi dealt him to Atletico Madrid for a hefty sum at the end of the season.
Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni said the talk would not disturb his star forward.
"Vieri is used to market mutterings," Trapattoni said. "He's been the subject of it for years, and he's shown it doesn't bother him."
Trapattoni's future is also up in the air. His contract with the Italian Soccer Federation lasts through June 15, less than two weeks after the Euros final on July 4.
---
BALL BLUES: Italy has not even arrived in Portugal yet, but the team is already complaining - about the ball.
Several "Azzurri" members say the new Adidas Roteiro - promoted for its seamless, stitchless surface - is too light and changes trajectory too easily.
Not surprisingly, goalkeepers were the most outspoken critics, led by starter Gianluigi Buffon.
"Every time they invent something new due to the laws of the market, but I don't understand why we can't play with the old leather ball with white and black blocks," he told the news agency ANSA on Thursday.
"This one is worse than the one two years ago at the World Cup. It has strange aspects and doesn't bounce like you expect, you need to practice specifically for it. Anyhow, the ball we use at Juventus is the worst of all, and I've said so to (club chairman Antonio) Giraudo."
AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo said "it seems like the Tango, the plastic ball that children use."
---
LESSON FROM COLLINA: The entire Italian team received a lesson from referee and compatriot Pierluigi Collina about what type of behavior will not be tolerated by officials at the Euros.
Besides punishing rough play more strictly, Collina reminded the "Azzurri" that European rules are stricter than those applied in Italian league matches.
The bald-headed referee said yellow cards would be given to players who take their shirt off to celebrate a goal or continue to protest calls for too long.
Collina also played a video reminding the team of the various cases of offside, a rule's application that came under sharp criticism by Italy two years ago at the World Cup.

No!!!
Marco Di Vaio is willing to join Inter in a move which could see Christian Vieri sign for Juventus.
"If I was to leave Juve then I would only join a top class team and that right now means Milan or Inter," said the striker.
Di Vaio had previously said that he expected to sign a new deal with Juve after Euro 2004 but he admits that may no longer be the case.
"Two days before I had to meet up with the national team, I received a call from Luciano Moggi and he told me that I was a part of Juventus? plans," he continued.
"And now? It all seems to depend on what Vieri wants. If he agrees then I feel that the deal will happen."
The Lazio youth team product has struggled to settle in Turin but he?s confident he could make a real impact at Inter.
"I would be able to play alongside Adriano again after our time together at Parma," he added.
"Taking into account our characteristics, I really do think that he is my ideal striking partner. I was only with him for three months but that was enough to realise his potential."
Whispers suggest that the transfer could be concluded in a matter of days and Di Vaio is hoping for a quick conclusion.
"I don?t want these rumours of Vieri going to Juventus and me joining Inter to persist during Euro 2004," he noted.
"I want to be informed of what will happen in the next few days. Until then I still feel like an important part of the Juventus side."
Meanwhile, Inter chief Massimo Moratti has said that Vieri could be heading out of the San Siro.
"It all depends on what he wants," Moratti is quoted as saying. "We?re evaluating the situation but nothing has changed for now."

so sad...Di Vaio has left us..
According to the latest news coming out of Italy, Christian Vieri has today agreed to a deal that will see him back in Turin with Juventus.
Even though it is not official yet, a press conference is expected to be held today at 6pm, where the exact details of the operation will be revealed. The deal will see Marco Di Vaio joining Inter and a sum of money in favour of the nerazzurri.
This twist of events goes against what Massimo Moratti stated this morning: "It all depends on what the player wants. We are evaluating, we have the requests of some clubs but for now we have not changed our mind."

Pavel Nedved will remain with Juventus after reportedly rejecting a new offer from Chelsea.
Speculation suggests that the Premiership outfit had targeted the midfielder but he wants to stay with the Old Lady.
The Stamford Bridge side, who yesterday appointed Porto?s Jose Mourinho as their new boss, have been after Nedved for some time.
Juventus were allegedly ready to let him go for the right price but the player has no interest in a switch.
"I still have two years left on my contract and I want to win the Champions? League with Juventus," Nedved said last month.
"I still can?t digest the fact that I missed out on the Final in 2003 against Milan because I was suspended."
There was also talk that Nedved could be offered to Inter as part of the deal to sign Christian Vieri.
Yet it seems almost certain that the former Lazio fan favourite will be a part of Fabio Capello?s squad next season.

Juventus transfer guru Luciano Moggi has announced that negotiations for Christian Vieri are in progress.
?There is an obstacle in our path to Vieri,? revealed the Director General, ?and it is an economic one.?
Moggi is traditionally tight-lipped about transfer stories and only last month kept pundits guessing on Juve?s new Coach until he unveiled Fabio Capello as the man in charge.
The press speculation about the Bianconeri holding talks with Inter were brushed off by patron Massimo Moratti, but this time the Turin giants are not hiding their intentions.
?I will visit Forte dei Marmi to eat some nice fish soup,? he smiled, ?but I won?t tell you who my dinner companion will be.?
It is well known that Inter chief Moratti is currently at the Tuscan seaside resort for a holiday, so more negotiations to whittle down the final details will take place over the weekend.
Moggi was also interviewed as he visited the Coverciano training ground, where the Italy squad is preparing for Euro 2004. He was officially invited along with several other club directors by the FIGC, but it?s reported he took the opportunity to discuss his plans with Vieri.
When told that the striker had insisted in a press conference that he knew nothing of negotiations for a move, Moggi made one of his traditional sly remarks.
?For a move to go through you need the acceptance of three parties: the player and both clubs. Those who say nothing are tacitly accepting a situation, so Juve are staying silent. Seeing as Inter are also refusing to comment, I?ll assume they are also making a statement of acceptance.?

Juventus' bid to bring Christian Vieri back to Stadio Delle Alpi has reportedly stalled because of a late interest from Real Madrid and the player's reluctance to accept reduced terms.
Speculation in Italy suggests Madrid are ready to launch a shock bid for the Italian international - which could explain the player's reluctance to ink a deal with Juve.
Vieri stands to earn ?16 million if he completes the remaining two years of his Internazionale contract - a move to Juve would net him just ?14 million over a four-year period.
Another potential stumbling block is Internazionale's desire to take both Marco Di Vaio and Manuele Blasi in any deal involving Juve.
Meanwhile, the man Vieri is earmarked to replace, David Trezeguet, is also experiencing problems in his own move to Barcelona.
The talented Frenchman has agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants but Juve general manager Luciano Moggi has confirmed that the two clubs are wide apart in their valuations of the player.
''They offer ?10 million - we want ?20 million,'' confirmed Moggi.
''He already has an agreement with them but we will send him on our conditions. Otherwise, he stays here at the cost of going in the stand.''

Juve Ready To Sacrifice Thuram For Cannavaro
06/07/2004. Latest reports in Italy seem to indicate that Juventus and Inter are ready to prepare a swap involving their defenders Lilian Thuram and Fabio Cannavaro.
Cannavaro has always been in Fabio Capello's list of wanted defenders even when he was at Roma, but at the time he was unable to lure the Italian national team captain with the giallorossi.
Now he has the chance to bring the Inter defender to his court, especially since the nerazzurri would be interested in a swap with Thuram who Capello will be willing to sacrifice.
Meanwhile, Kapo's adventure with the bianconeri seems already to be at an end as Capello does not consider him in his plans. The French player was signed at the time when Didier Deschamps seemed destined to take over at Juventus, and so Kapo will most probably end up on loan with Monaco for next season.

Unsettled Juventus striker David Trezeguet has revealed he could stay at the club despite seemingly being on his way to Barcelona.
The French international appeared to be heading out the Juve exit door after failing to agree a new deal with the Italian giants.
Barcelona are very keen on the ex-Monaco man and are believed to have agreed a deal with the Frenchman.
Trezeguet has now done a U-Turn and insists he is committed to Juventus after getting a call from new coach Fabio Capello.
"A lot of my recent comments have been misinterpreted," Trezeguet told Italian daily Tuttosport. "My desire is to continue playing in the Bianconeri shirt.
"Capello has phoned me and asked whether I was ready and willing to work with him at the club.
"I was happy to be asked and I responded positively because I want to be a part of the Juventus project.
"I feel like a Juventino in every sense and I want to stay here in Turin for as long as possible.
"I want to sign a contract with Juve as soon as possible so all our problems will be put apart.
"Probably a few of my declarations have provoked problems and for this reason I make my apologies.
"But what I didn't understand is that in three years there hasn't been time to discuss my contract as has happened for my other team-mates.
"We will look at everything after the European Championship and probably before my holidays."

world class defender coming our way!!??
Inter?s Fabio Cannavaro has admitted that he would accept a summer move to Juventus.
"Every player in the world would like to play for them. They are a great and prestigious club," he said. "How could anyone turn them down?"
The defender has been linked with the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit after the arrival of Fabio Capello as Coach.
"I know that Capello rates me highly but it will be up to Inter to decide my future," added the 31-year-old.
The Nerazzurri are understood to be willing to release the former Parma man in exchange for Lilian Thuram.
Juventus are looking for a new central defender after their nightmare defensive performances last term.
Meanwhile, one defender linked with the Old Lady isn?t so keen on a move ? for the time being.
"I would love to join Juventus but only after I?ve played in Serie A for one year," said Alessandro Parisi. "That experience would allow me to compete for a first team shirt."
The Messina left-back, 27, has had a sensational season by helping the Sicilian club win promotion to the top-flight.

Juventus may have dropped out of the race to sign Under-21 ace Alberto Gilardino from Parma.
The Italian giants have been heavily associated with a summer swoop but that may no longer be the case.
"Their interest seems to have cooled over the last few months," revealed his agent Marcello Bonetto.
"The main reason seems to be that they are after Christian Vieri of Inter and I?m not sure whether they want to buy both of them."
Gilardino is one of the hottest properties on the transfer market after a stunning campaign at the Stadio Tardini.
He started the year as a substitute to Adriano but ended the season with 23 League goals.
He also played a key role in the Azzurrini?s European Championship victory last night when he netted in the 3-0 win over Serbia.
Gilardino, who was the joint top scorer at the Finals with four goals, could now be on his way to Roma.

Roma are reportedly ready to start talks with Juventus over the sale of star man Emerson.
The midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Bianconeri but the move has stalled as Roma would rather sell him elsewhere.
It?s understood that a fee has been agreed with Real Madrid but the player insists he only has eyes for Juventus.
The Giallorossi don?t have a great relationship with their great rivals but Emerson?s contract situation will force a sale.
The former Bayer Leverkusen ace only has a year left on his contract which means the club must sell or risk losing him for nothing next summer.
Given the fact that Emerson and his agent have repeatedly stated that they want a Juve move, Roma are set to negotiate a fee.
Real Madrid are believed to have offered £12m but the Turin giants are reportedly ready to only table an £8.5m bid.
However, it is suggested that the capital outfit could accept that figure if Juventus promise to withdraw from the race to sign Alberto Gilardino.
The Parma striker has been linked with both clubs and new Roma boss Cesare Prandelli is keen to have the player at his disposal again.
There is also the possibility that Juve could offer midfielder Manuele Blasi, who worked with Prandelli at Parma last term, as part of the deal too.

Alessandro Del Piero says he doesn?t feel inferior to Italy?s new star player Francesco Totti.
The Roman was described as Italy?s answer to Michel Platini by Giovanni Trapattoni yesterday, but the Juve ace feels he shouldn?t be forgotten.
"I haven?t got anything less than Totti," said Alex. "I?m not really taking Trap?s comment into consideration anyway.
"Totti is Totti and I am Del Piero. We play in the same team and we must consider ourselves on the same level."
However, there is no doubt that people are expecting great things from Totti this summer rather than the Juve No 10.
"I?m not affected by the praise that Totti is receiving," he insisted. "In fact, I?m pleased that people are not saying that it will be my tournament as I could spring a surprise."
Trap has stated that the Azzurri are a different proposition with Totti in the side, does Del Piero agree?
"I don?t know how we would play without him," he responded. "Francesco is a great player who is looking forward to making an impact."
Although the Coach feels that Totti is key, Del Piero seems sure of a starting shirt if the boss keeps faith with the 4-2-3-1 system.
"Even if we don?t play like that nothing will really change for me," insisted the 29-year-old. "I may feel more pressure from Cassano but that wouldn?t cause a problem."
Del Piero also commented on Gennaro Gattuso?s decision to criticise Trap for not considering him and Andrea Pirlo in his first team plans.
"I think that you need to weigh up Gattuso?s comments correctly. He was simply stating the fact that he is ready to play if needed," he added.
Alex concluded by commenting on rumours that David Trezeguet could remain at Juventus next season.
"I haven?t got any problems with David," he said. "Emerson? I hope that he arrives. There have already been some surprises this summer, starting with the appointment of Fabio Capello."
Meanwhile, Trap is set to select Mauro Camoranesi ahead of Stefano Fiore for their opening game against Denmark.
The Azzurri played a practice match this morning with a team that should be selected next Monday.

David Trezeguet is ready to make a U-Turn and stay on at Juventus, despite having reportedly agreed a deal with Barcelona.
The French international had been heavily tipped to move to the Nou Camp this summer after an unhappy time with the Bianconeri, although the two clubs are believed to be too far apart in their valuation of the player.
The former Monaco forward says he is ready to sign a new deal following his chat with new boss Fabio Capello.
"A lot of my recent comments have been misinterpreted," Trezeguet told Italian daily Tuttosport. "My desire is to continue playing in the Bianconeri shirt.

Juventus have succeeded in convincing David Trezeguet to stay at the club after offering the France international striker a lucrative four-year package, Gazzetta dello sport reported.
Trezeguet's contract with the Serie A giants was to expire at the end of next season however Trezeguet, currently at Euro 2004 with France, has finally agreed to a four-year extension after weeks of negotiations.
The new deal will see Trezeguet earn 5.5 million euros annually, one million of which corresponds to image rights, and means that he will be one of the club's top earners alongside Alessandro Del Piero, Pavel Nedved and Gianluigi Buffon.
Trezeguet had threatened to leave Juventus a number of weeks ago, and it was reported that he was ready to sign for Barcelona.
However the arrival at the club of new coach Fabio Capello, who is a big admirer of the Frenchman, seems to have helped change his mind.
"He (Capello) telephoned me to say he was counting a lot on me, which was good enough for me," Trezeguet said.
Juventus have made no official announcement but the club's vice-president Roberto Bettega is set to travel to Portugal this week with the new contract in hand.
The 26-year-old Trezeguet arrived at Juvenuts in 2000/01 from Monaco. He has twice won the Italian league, in 2002 and 2003, and was the top scorer in 2002 with 24 goals.

David Trezeguet has confirmed that he will remain at Juventus after making peace with the club.
The Frenchman was expected to be sold by the giants after failing to agree terms over a new contract.
However, the striker has revealed that he is on the verge of signing an extension with the Delle Alpi outfit.
"My father Jorge (who is also his agent) will be in Turin soon to sign the agreement," revealed the former Monaco player.
"There are still a few details to iron out but it is almost done. Luciano Moggi has called and we are in talks. I?m confident a deal will be done."
A divorce was seemingly on the cards. Trezeguet had stated that he wanted a move to Barca, while Juve started to target Christian Vieri.
Yet Inter now look unlikely to sell the Italian and new Juve boss Fabio Capello is keen on keeping Trez.
"Capello is a great tactician," added the player. "He is one of the reasons why I?ve moved closer to Juventus."
Another known problem was that Trezeguet wanted a substantial pay increase, something the club were not too keen on.
"There is a wage structure in Turin and I will conform to these numbers," he added. "I?m really happy because Juventus were always my first choice."
The Old Lady must renew their deal with the player or they risk losing him for nothing next summer as his contract expires in 2005.

Roma have given Juventus the green light to complete the signing of star midfielder Emerson.
"We need to take into account the fact that we are forced to sell him," sporting director Franco Baldini told Radio Incontro today.
"As the saying goes, it is better to have two wounded soldiers rather than a dead one?
"It would be a costly error if we keep him until his contract expires. It would also be a mistake on a footballing level too.
"Emerson already has his head, and more than that, elsewhere."
Baldini was commenting on the fact that the Brazilian has a verbal agreement to join the Bianconeri.
He?s been handed a four-year contract but Juventus have yet to sort out a fee with the Giallorossi.
They have reportedly offered around £7m for the player who has less than a year left on his current deal.
Roma had threatened to keep hold of the international unless a £13m bid was tabled - a figure Real Madrid and Inter are both prepared to pay.
Yet Roma seem to have resigned themselves to losing the ace for less given that he desperately wants to join the Turin club.
The Olimpico outfit are still in some financial trouble but Baldini reassured fans that Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano would remain.
"They are key figures in our project," he added. "The Bari youngster has proved his worth on the pitch and he is destined to become Totti?s heir.
"I believe that Cassano is now mature enough to be named as our vice captain. That?ll be up to Coach Cesare Prandelli to decide though."

New Juventus signing Olivier Kapo admits that he could be sent out on loan for the new season.
"I don?t know whether I will be staying or if I will be loaned out," said the summer buy from Auxerre.
"I hope to impress the Coach over the next few weeks so that I can stay here and win a place back in the French national side."
The 23-year-old, a free capture, has been associated with a switch to Monaco to work under Didier Deschamps ? the man that perhaps Kapo expected to be his boss at Juve.
"I didn?t choose to come here because of Deschamps as people are claiming," added the international.
"I simply chose Juventus and it is a great honour to be here. Anyhow, I do believe that Fabio Capello is a great tactician."
So what should Juve fans expect from Kapo in the new campaign. "I can play behind two strikers," he said. "On the left or the right.
"I tried to model myself on Zinedine Zidane but Zizou is the sort of player that all French youngsters try to copy."

Nicola Legrottaglie is hopeful that he can finally deliver for Juventus after a difficult first season in Turin.
The Italian struggled to make a significant impact at the Delle Alpi but he?s eager to silence his many critics.
"I hope that this season turns out to be better than the last," said the defender. "However, there is a massive difference for me this summer.
"I?m in much better physical shape now. I seem to have got rid of the calf problem that hampered me for most of the last campaign."
Legrottaglie was snapped up from Chievo in a bid to strengthen the Old Lady?s defence, yet the £7m buy didn?t impress at all.
"I wanted to do more but it was an unfortunate season," he adds. "Now I want to illustrate my real worth to the club and the fans.
"I did make mistakes last term but I was the only one that was being blamed for Juve?s campaign. I now want to redeem myself."
Legrottaglie?s problems also saw him dropped from Italy?s Euro 2004 squad ? a fact he found hard to digest.
"I was disappointed," he continued. "Did Marco Materazzi (Inter) deserve to go? In my opinion he shouldn?t have been there either.
"Trap should have left both of us at home and called up Marcello Castellini of Parma or Marco Di Loreto of Perugia based on last season?s performances."

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has spoken about the club?s transfer plans for this summer.
The Bianconeri have been linked with numerous players so far but Moggi has narrowed down the club?s objectives.
He?s revealed that his outfit are looking to sign Roma?s Emerson, Marek Jankulovski (pictured) of Udinese and Lazio defender Massimo Oddo.
"Juventus will only make a cash offer for Emerson," he stated. "Jankulovski and Oddo will be swap deals."
Reports suggest that Udinese will net Enzo Maresca or Matteo Brighi in exchange, while Mark Iuliano will be offered to the capital club.
The Turin giants were also linked with a new central defender but a move for Daniele Bonera of Parma seems off. "We don?t need him," added Moggi.
Juve also seem to have pulled out of negotiations to sign Fabio Cannavaro as Inter wanted Marco Di Vaio in return ? a departure that boss Fabio Capello is understood to have blocked.
What about bids for Inter striker Christian Vieri or a reunion with Edgar Davids? "They?ve both been here in the past and warmed up dinners rarely prove successful," he added.
The transfer guru was then asked whether Juve could still swoop for Parma hotshot Alberto Gilardino.
"He is a great player and very young," he explained. "He would be perfect for the future but he will probably stay at Parma."

Ciro Ferrara has asked fellow Neapolitan Fabio Cannavaro to join him at Juventus this summer.
The Inter defender has been linked with a switch to the Bianconeri and Ferrara is keen on his arrival.
"When he was about to leave Napoli I called him and told him how good life was in Turin, but he joined Parma," said the 37-year-old.
"I called him again when he was about to leave Parma yet he chose Inter. I?ve been in touch this summer, we?ll see what happens."
The Napoli legend is about to start his 11th campaign at Juventus, this time under the leadership of new boss Fabio Capello.
"His arrival did surprise us," he admitted. "Nevertheless, he is the right man after the departure of Marcello Lippi. He is a tough and serious boss.
"Right now Capello is trying to understand us and we are trying to understand him. He is a tactician who works hard but says very little."
Ferrara was also asked to comment on Alex Del Piero?s disappointing Euro campaign and the confirmation of David Trezeguet.
"Does Alex risk losing his place? We all do because that is what happens when a new Coach arrives," continued Ferrara.
"I hope that he is motivated for the new season. It?s a shame that he was so heavily criticised for Italy?s disappointing tournament.
"As for David, I?m happy that he is staying. It is a better option to keep Trezeguet rather than sign Christian Vieri."
There was a real possibility that Ferrara could have left Juventus to aid Lippi with the national side. "I spoke with him but I want to be a player for one more season," he explained.
"We?ll see what happens, even if I already have a contract agreed with Juve to become a director once I do stop playing."

Fabio Capello insists that it may be some time before he has any clear idea about the look of the new Juventus.
The Bianconeri have been in training since Saturday but the tactician is still without his international players or future signings.
"I have a lot of ideas but they are all in my head for now, as I still haven?t got the whole squad at my disposal to try things out," he stated.
"I?m waiting for a few new faces and the players who were on international duty during the summer.
"This squad is already competitive but why shouldn?t we try to make it even stronger?"
Juventus are in negotiations for Emerson of Roma, Lazio?s Massimo Oddo and Marek Jankulovski of Udinese.
But Capello feels that the side?s most important signing is the decision to extend David Trezeguet?s contract.
"Ever since I got here I?ve had an impact on what we are doing on the market. Take Trezeguet for example, I really wanted him to stay and he?ll be our centre forward," he added.
The former Roma boss was also asked whether Juventus could play with a three-man defence next season.
"It is too soon to tell," he explained. "At the minute all I will say is that Lilian Thuram will play in the centre."
Who will be Juve?s main rivals? "Milan will still be the team to beat," he noted. "Inter are making some interesting signings but they will change their system. We?ll see what happens."

Roma?s Emerson could join Real Madrid this summer ? but only if Juventus allow him to.
The Spanish giants have had a bid accepted for the Brazilian but he?s promised his services to the Bianconeri.
"I?ve spoken to Real President Florentino Perez and he is aware of the situation," said agent Gilmar Veloz.
"We?ve given our word to Juventus and that will only change if Juve tell us that we can now negotiate with Real instead."
Veloz?s comments are just the latest bizarre twist in the Emerson saga that has dragged on for most of the summer.
Roma need to sell the player as he only has one-year left on his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
Real and Inter have both had £13m bids accepted but Juventus, who have a deal with the player, are only willing to offer around £7m.
"Both the player and I are aware of the status of Real Madrid," continued Veloz. "Yet nothing has changed.
"Emerson wants to go to Juventus, Turin is the city where he wants to live and Fabio Capello calls him everyday to see when he will arrive."
Meanwhile, Juventus won their third pre-season friendly on Sunday by beating Pavia 4-2 with goals from Kapo, Zalayeta, Miccoli and Tacchinardi.
"We?ve taken another step forward," said Capello. "The players did well for the whole game but especially in the first half.
"We?ve improved both tactically and physically in the past few days."

Lazio full-back Massimo Oddo is reportedly poised to finally sign for Italian giants Juventus.
The right-sided player has been an object of desire for some time and a move is apparently imminent.
Oddo is currently on tour with Lazio in Japan but talks over his future are continuing between the two clubs.
The capital outfit have asked for around £5m but Juve want that figure reduced by offering Matteo Brighi as part of the deal.
Oddo isn?t likely to be the only defender set for a switch to the Stadio Delle Alpi in the next few weeks.
A central defender is also expected to arrive with the club assessing a number of different options.
The favourite remains Fabio Cannavaro of Inter even if his high wages may see the proposed move collapse.
Other possible targets include Sol Campbell of Arsenal, Parma youngster Daniele Bonera and Czech international Tomas Ujfalusi of Hamburg.

Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has started the new season by taking a swipe at his many critics.
The No 10 has been heavily criticised by some in the past year and he seems to have had enough.
"I sometimes feel as if I?ve been taken for a ride by the media," he stated on Monday. "I want a bit more balance in the judgements made about me.
"The time has arrived for me to react. From now on, whoever attacks me in the future will receive a response.
"My name is Del Piero, but that is no reason to criticise me for every mistake that I make. I won?t remain silent this season."
The Italian failed to impress at Juventus last term due to injury and poor form. The attacker also struggled at Euro 2004 with his country.
"There is a great desire for revenge inside of me," he added. "We won nothing at Juventus and things went badly for Italy in Portugal. I want to make up for those disappointments."
Del Piero is now back in training with the squad under the leadership of new Bianconeri boss Fabio Capello.
"His signing was a real surprise after his many years at Roma but this change will allow us to be protagonists again," he added.
Alex was also surprised that David Trezeguet, who was linked with a summer exit, is still his teammate at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
"I didn?t expect him to be here even if I also thought that we would have signed two or three more players by now. Emerson? I hope he arrives."

Reports in Italy that Juventus are interested in Arsenal stopper Sol Campbell are gathering pace.
The Italian giants are expected to sign a new central defender and the England international is an alleged target.
Juventus were impressed with Campbell?s performances at Euro 2004 and are lining up a player plus cash bid.
Players that could possibly be offered to the Premiership champions include Igor Tudor and Stephan Appiah.
The Croatian, who can play in defence or as a midfielder, is expected to quit the Serie A club this summer.
While Appiah, who only joined from Brescia a year ago, doesn?t seem to be a key figure in Fabio Capello?s plans.
Other centre backs who have been associated with the Old Lady are Fabio Cannavaro of Inter, Parma youngster Daniele Bonera and Czech international Tomas Ujfalusi of Hamburg.
Meanwhile, Juventus are ready to offer £7m plus Enzo Maresca to Roma in a bid to finally sign Emerson.
The Giallorossi had previously demanded that Juve pay either £13m or £8.5m plus Manuele Blasi.
The latter is considered as untouchable by Capello, but Maresca is available as he only has one year left on his Turin contract.

Gigi Buffon has signed his second contract extension with Juventus in the space of three months.
The goalkeeper committed himself to the club until 2008 in April but he?s now prolonged that by a further year.
"An agreement was reached with the full satisfaction of the club and the player," said transfer guru Luciano Moggi.
Buffon is now back in training with the Bianconeri and he?s eager for success after a disappointing past 12 months with Juve and Italy.
"We are determined to do well, especially as we have everything that is needed here to win something important," the No 1 stated on Tuesday.
"The Scudetto will be a key objective and I think it will be between Milan, Inter and ourselves."
Both the Milanese sides have brought in some quality players this summer, while Juve are still waiting to sign Emerson from Roma.
"He is a great champion but nobody is indispensable at this club as the last 100 years have shown," added Gigi.
"If he arrives then we will all be delighted but if that doesn?t happen then we will still be a competitive side."
One of the reasons why Buffon is so confident is down to the fact that David Trezeguet wasn?t sold to Barcelona.
"It was a surprise to see him still here but I?m not shocked because I knew that he wanted to stay," continued the international.
Buffon also revealed today that he wanted to take part in the Olympic Games this summer but had to withdraw because of Juve?s Champions? League preliminary tie.
"I was asked to go to Athens and I accepted as it is important for a player to win with their country," he revealed.
"However, Juve finished third last season and we must make sure that we qualify for the group stages of the European Cup."

21-07-2004, 02:53 PM
MADRID (Reuters) -- Spanish champions Valencia have signed Italian striker Marco Di Vaio from Juventus on a five-year contract, the Primera Liga club said on Tuesday.
The club announced the signing while they were inaugurating a new VIP box at their Mestalla stadium.
Spanish sports daily Marca said on its website that Valencia, who also won last season's UEFA Cup, would pay 10.5 million euros ($13.01 million) for the Italy international.
Di Vaio is the third member of the Italian national squad to join the club since Claudio Ranieri took over as coach last month.
Forward Bernardo Corradi and midfielder Stefano Fiore both signed for Valencia from Lazio for a combined fee of 17 million euros.
Di Vaio, 28, was in Italy's Euro 2004 squad but played just seven minutes of their final group game, a 2-1 win over Bulgaria.
The Rome-born player began his career at Lazio before moving on to Verona, Bari and then Salernitana where he scored 33 goals in 67 games.
His goal-scoring exploits brought him to the attention of Parma who signed him for $10 million in March 1999. He went on to score 35 goals in two seasons before switching to Juventus for $25 million in 2002.
He scored seven goals in Juve's championship-winning campaign and featured in their run to the 2003 Champions League final, although he did not play in the defeat by fellow Italians AC Milan.
Last season Di Vaio scored 11 goals in 29 games as Juve finished third in Serie A behind AC Milan and AS Roma.
The arrival of Di Vaio puts further pressure on Valencia striker Mista, who has been linked with a move away from the club after refusing to sign a new contract.

This is sad news for me. I've always liked Di Vaio, and I was looking forward to seeing how he'd play under a manager who didn't dash his confidence to pieces by blindly selecting Del Piero every single match. Di Vaio showed what he can do given a bit of confidence and playing time, and as much as he disappointed in many games that he played, I still don't think he got a fair chance in terms of consistent playing time and faith in him on Lippi's part.
Apart from that, we lost 10m from selling him (prematurely IMO), and if we don't use the money well (that being if we don't sign Emerson and Gilardino now ) I'm afraid this is going to be a blow to the depth of our squad, whether we realise it now or not

David Trezeguet has arrived back at Juventus after his post-Euro 2004 holiday and immediately signed the four-year deal he agreed at the beginning of the month.
The France international had been impressed with new coach Fabio Capello's assurances about his role this year and has agreed a lengthy new contract with the Turin club.
"The player's requests were met," said Luciano Moggi in Gazzetta dello Sport.
Trezeguet is keen to be a key part of Capello's regime as they look to grab back the title from last season's champions Milan.
The French striker confessed that he is glad he can put contract talk out of his mind and concentrate on scoring goals.
"I am happy I am staying and that we sorted the situation out," said Trezeguet.

Juventus coach Fabio Capello is keen to sign a replacement for striker Marco Di Vaio who joined Valencia this week.
"He had a good offer which he considered and then accepted," said Capello. "Valencia are an excellent side. Now I hope that we get somebody in to replace him."
Meanwhile, Juventus won a pre-season friendly, 3-1, against Genoa, thanks to goals from
Olivier Kapo, Fabrizio Miccoli and Matteo Brighi.
Capello said: "I really liked our first half performance. We are improving and there is a great desire to do well from everybody.
"I made a few changes to the starting side as a couple of players are having a few physical problems."

Juventus have decided to fill the void left by the sale of Marco Di Vaio with Parma sensation Alberto Gilardino.
The Italian has joined Valencia this week which has conveniently freed up an attacking spot at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
Reports in Italy suggest that the Old Lady of Italian football have wasted little time in making contact with the Gialloblu.
A call is believed to have been made on Wednesday, as now seems to be the perfect time to strike for the Under-21 international.
Although Parma would like to extend Gilardino?s contract that runs out in 2006, the player is set to reject the chance of renewing his deal until 2009.
Gilardino is hoping to move onto a bigger club with the likes of Roma and Real Madrid also keen on him.
The former Piacenza youngster is set to hold talks with Parma today where he is expected to make his feelings known.
There could be some important developments regarding the striker?s future in the very near future.
Meanwhile, Matteo Ferrari seems to have played his last game for Parma. He was training with Roma this morning even if he?s still to officially be signed by the Giallorossi.

After months of negotiations, David Trezeguet has finally renewed his contract with Juventus.
The Frenchman only had a year left on his old deal before today committing himself to the club until 2008.
There were fears that the striker would leave, with Barcelona very interested, as agreeing terms with Juve was proving to be problematic.
Yet director general Luciano Moggi has confirmed that the former Monaco man will remain in Turin.
"We decided to meet Trezeguet?s requests and the contract has been signed," stated the transfer guru.
The player himself was also delighted that he would continue to wear the Bianconeri colours.
"I?m happy to have stayed and that the situation has been resolved," said the international.
"The arrival of Fabio Capello as Coach was certainly a factor. We lost a winning boss in Lippi but fortunately another one has arrived."

why can't juve and those two other northern clubs go buy some stars from other foreign leagues instead of plucking away stars from fellow italian clubs like parma, lazio, roma...etc.
With other foreign clubs stripping serie A of their stars and the three northern clubs keep improving themselves at the expense of their fellow italian clubs, serie A is becoming a lot less attractive and competitive than before.

Fiorentina have, as expected, officially announced the signing of Enzo Maresca from Juventus.
The 24-year-old wasn’t a part of Fabio Capello’s plans in Turin and has been allowed to leave.
Maresca, who has signed until 2008 with the Tuscan side, has joined the club in a co-ownership deal.
The cost of the move hasn’t been announced but it is believed that Juve have netted around £1.5m for the midfielder.
In other transfer news, Lecce have bought in Souleymane Diamoutene on loan from relegated Perugia.

Inter may be beaten to the signature of Aparecido Rodriguez Cesar by Scudetto rivals Juventus.
The Lazio player is a known target for the Nerazzurri but the Turin giants have made a significant move.
Reports on Saturday claim that the Bianconeri have made the capital club an offer for the Brazilian and teammate Massimo Oddo.
Administrator Antonio Giraudo met with new Lazio chief Claudio Lotito on Friday to discuss the switch.
Juve are ready to offer £6m plus the loan signings of either Matteo Brighi, Giorgio Chiellini or Ruben Olivera for the two internationals.
The cash-strapped Biancocelesti could accept those conditions even if they are set to wait for Inter’s counter offer.
Boss Roberto Mancini has insisted that he wants Cesar at his disposal next season and Inter are ready to offer £5.5m for the South American.
The Turin giants have turned their attention to the 29-year-old given their difficulties in signing Marek Jankulovski of Udinese.
Cesar is liked by new Juve boss Fabio Capello, who already wanted him in his Roma squad last summer.

There is a new war of words between Juventus and Roma after Fabio Capello hit back at Giallorossi boss Cesare Prandelli.
Prandelli yesterday suggested that Capello, his predecessor in the capital, had left him with a side that was "tactically disorganised."
Yet Capello has objected to the criticism by giving a lengthy response to the former Parma Coach.
"I’ve been at four clubs in the past and I’ve never allowed myself to talk about the work of the man that I replaced," he announced.
"Prandelli said that technically the players were good which I take as a compliment as it shows that we worked well.
"With regards to tactics, he should have noted that the team he fielded against Rangers was totally different to my Roma.
"All of the teams that I have coached in my career have always been very organised both offensively and defensively, as my record suggests."
Prandelli also criticised the decision to play friendlies so soon in pre-season after the 4-1 loss to the Scottish outfit – plans which were developed by Capello before he left for Turin.
"There were many factors which were taken into consideration, including economical ones," Capello added.
"A lot of sides have organised matches seeing as generating money is so important in today’s football world."

Juventus have said that they could be just days away from finally signing Roma ace Emerson.
The Brazilian has promised himself to the Bianconeri but no transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs.
"Emerson is a player that we are very interested in but common sense needs to be used," stated administrator Antonio Giraudo.
"Franco Baldini, Roma’s sporting director, is an intelligent person which leaves me optimistic that we can finalise a deal in the next few days. That is my hope anyway."
The Old Lady of Italian football have offered around £7.5m, while Roma want £13m or £10m plus Manuele Blasi.
Meanwhile, Giraudo was also asked to reveal whether any other players would arrive with Emerson.
"Only if the right conditions are in place, I’m obviously talking about the financial aspect," responded the official.
"We are not a club that buys for the sake of buying. We’ll have to consider whether any investment is compatible and useful.
"Juventus will only buy players that we need and individuals who have the ability to make a difference."
They are reportedly interested in Parma striker Alberto Gilardino, Udinese’s Marek Jankulovski and Massimo Oddo of Lazio.

Davide Baiocco has admitted that he has no future at the Stadio Delle Alpi with Italian giants Juventus.
"I still have two years left on my contract but the club have told me that I am not part of their plans," he revealed.
The midfielder was signed in the summer of 2002 from Perugia but he hasn’t really delivered.
He spent last season on loan with Reggina and has been strongly linked with a move to newly promoted Messina.
"I’ve haven’t rejected a switch to Messina, I’m just evaluating the offers," he wanted to underline.
"I believe that I have a right to do that as a player. I need to have a look at what is on offer with great attention."
However, the 28-year-old has admitted that he could still end up at the Sicilian club next season.
"I played at Reggio Calabria and I understand the passion of the south. I’d like to play at Messina but we’ll see what happens," he concluded.

Fabio Capello’s Juventus seem to be moving in the right direction after a 1-0 win over Paris SG.
Uruguayan striker Marcelo Zalayeta scored the only goal on 20 minutes after some fine work on the left by Gianluca Zambrotta.
"I’m very happy with what we did against a side that is further forward in their preparation than we are," stated Capello.
"We played with great personality by giving very little away to our opponents but creating chances for ourselves.
"It was a strong display from us in both physical and tactical terms.
"Obviously I can only judge my squad once all my players are in form but the progress is leaving me satisfied."
The defence looked particularly strong with Nicola Legrottaglie and Jonathan Zebina doing well. Fabrizio Miccoli was also very dangerous in attack.
There was no Enzo Maresca in Paris after he was sold to Fiorentina. But Capello didn’t take kindly to any transfer questions.
"I don’t occupy myself with the transfer market," he responded. "We’ve planned for a specific side and we’ll hopefully get that."

(Adds details)
By Jean-Paul Couret
PARIS, July 27 (Reuters) - Defender Lilian Thuram has announced his retirement from international soccer after 103 appearances for France.
"I have decided to quit 'Les Bleus'. I'm 32. I know I have already given France the best I could give," Thuram, who is equal second in the country's list for all-time caps, told sports daily L'Equipe on Tuesday.
"In two years time there will be another World Cup. Maybe some players will be performing better than me. It's time they get ready. It's the end of Thuram's cycle," the Juventus player added.
Thuram was a key player in the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winning teams.
In 10 years on the right flank he scored just two goals, both in the same game to give France a 2-1 win over Croatia in their 1998 World Cup semi-final.
"It was a moment of pure madness," he told L'Equipe. "I think I shall be linked to these two goals for eternity."
Born in Guadeloupe, Thuram won his first cap in August 1994 against the Czech Republic and played his last international as France were defeated by Greece in the Euro 2004 quarter-finals.
He became France's third player to break the 100-cap threshold after the 1998 World Cup-winning captain Didier Deschamps (103) and the Euro 2000 and 2004 skipper Marcel Desailly (116).
"HONEST MAN"
"I'm now in a position where I would have answered a call-up only to get one more cap. That's not like me. I'm quitting Les Bleus but I'm not ending my playing career," Thuram said.
The tall and tireless defender is under contract at Juventus until 2006. He joined the Serie A team from Parma in 2001 after playing 155 Ligue 1 games at Monaco.
He won the Italian championship in 2002 and 2003 with Juventus and also lifted the UEFA Cup with Parma in 1999.
"I have had ups and downs in my career but I'm proud to have played for so long for France. To have been able to stay at that level for so many years means that I did my job conscientiously," he said.
"I don't know if I shall be remembered as a great player and I don't care really. I would like to be remembered as an honest man who always tried to give his best when wearing the blue jersey."
Thuram is the second senior player of the 1998 generation to quit since Euro 2004. Desailly also announced his retirement from international football earlier this month.
Zinedine Zidane, Fabien Barthez and Bixente Lizarazu also hinted that they could end their international careers but France's coach Raymond Domenech, who was appointed on July 12, said that he would ask them to carry on.
France will play their first game since Euro 2004 on August 18 against Bosnia.
They begin their 2006 World Cup qualifiers on September 4 at the Stade de France against Israel.

ROME (AP) -- Brazilian midfielder Emerson has moved from AS Roma to Juventus, Italian news reports said Tuesday.
Italian news agency ANSA quoted Juventus general director Luciano Moggi as saying the two teams reached an agreement, but he refused to disclose details, ANSA said.
However, ANSA and other news reports said Juventus will pay €14 million ($17 million) and send midfielder Matteo Brighi to the Roman team.
No one from either team was immediately available to confirm the reports.
The negotiations between Roma and Juventus -- two top teams whose fans are among the fiercest rivals in the Serie A -- started in May. Roma, which has financial troubles, has been looking to sell some of its stars to raise money.
Emerson, whose contract with Roma was due to expire next year, is 28. He joined Roma in 2000 and helped the club win the league the following year.
Juventus is looking for a comeback after a disappointing season. The club has also hired former Roma coach Fabio Capello.

INTER Milan defeated Juventus 1-0 and then AC Milan 5-4 in a penalty shootout to clinch the Tim Cup pre-season tournament today.
The competition, played before a sellout San Siro stadium, featured the debut of coaches Roberto Mancini and Fabio Capello for Inter and Juventus respectively, and several newcomers including Inter's Juan Sebastian Veron and Nicolas Burdisso, and AC Milan's Hernan Crespo.
Inter's winner, in the opening 45-minute match with Juventus, was scored after 36 minutes by Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins.
Juve lost 2-0 to AC Milan, the defending league champions, in the next game.
Newly signed 18-year-old striker Nicola Pozzi and midfielder Massimo Ambrosini scored for Milan within the first 10 minutes.
Inter then won 5-4 over crosstown rivals Milan in the penalty shootout after the regular 45 minutes ended in a scoreless.

Italy's most famous transfer strategist is being questioned by his own fans whether he still got it or not. After surprisingly bringing Fabio Capello to Juve, in what was hailed as an act of genius after creating a smoke-screen to deflect the media attention away from the former Roma coach, Moggi sold fan favourite Enzo Maresca to bitter rivals Fiorentina. So we ask you, is Moggi really that transfer guru everyone wants us to believe he is or is he over rated? Let us know at you@goal.com!
Following Enzo Maresca?s sale from Juventus to Fiorentina, many bianconeri fans have been questioning Luciano Moggi?s transfer policies after years of blind faith in what is considered in Italy as the transfer guru of Serie A.
Maresca was a big fan favourite in Turin thanks to his excellent ball skills, which even pushed Gianluca Zambrotta to compare the Italian midfielder to a former great Juve player: Zinedine Zidane.
So what was the motivation behind such a sale? Ok, it?s a co-ownership deal which means that Maresca can still be brought back to Juve just like Adriano from Parma to Inter last January. But this also means that if Maresca does play well for Fiorentina, as everyone expects him to do, Juve will have to fork out at least double what they received from the Viola for half of his ownership (2m Euros).
So did Moggi really lose it in this instance or is there some hidden reason which we cannot see? One thing that springs to mind is maybe Maresca?s behaviour which at times might be a bit eccentric?maybe too much for the current Old Lady?s style of discipline. A clear example would be Maresca?s famous bull imitation two years ago after scoring a late equalizer for the bianconeri against Torino, which angered the Granata?s players and fans, turning him into their number one most hated player.
That could be a reason; another might be Maresca not signing the new contract under the conditions imposed by the Juventus directors, which meant less money than the player expected.
At 24 years of age, Maresca is still considered as one of Italy?s most promising hot prospects, and seeing the lack of quality midfielders in the Azzurri national team, the former Juve player could easily command such a position in Lippi?s Italian team.
Still, this doesn?t answer the question most Juve fans have on their mind: why was he sold? Only Moggi could answer that, but only time will tell if he was right in writing off such a player. By the end of next season, the bianconeri supporters will either be hailing Moggi as a genius or as incompetent, depending on how Maresca fares.
Hereunder are your views on the above subject:
He is an interesting person. He is doing everything in secret. If he says he will sign Vieri it means he wants Gilardino. He is really good at his job. I am sure he will soon bring some fantastic players in Juve. It is hard to understand him but it doesnt matter because he is the best.
Gergely Kulcsár (Hungarian Juve supporter)
There was a time when Moggi could be considered a genius. However, this is clearly a man who started to believe this title a bit too much. Juve?s current problems are simple, and the solutions are simple as well. Yet we Juve fans sit back this summer and watch as young, top, quality defenders go to every club but ours. We watch as hardworking, effective midfielders Davids and Maresca are treated deplorably and traded to our rivials without a hint of who might replace them. We watch with mouths agape as Trezeguet, who had but one good season with us, is given the contract of his dreams, yet we feel free to trade back-up Di Vaio away to Spain. Moggi has promised us a ?big surprise? to come. Lately, I?m beginning to feel his definition of ?surprise? is to hide on your stoop in the dark and then lunge out with a knife when you get home. A genius? Hardly. He?s half the man he used to be, and not even close to what he believes himself to be.
Jules, Ontario, Canada
Moggi past has shown that he is the man of the transfer business, but in the past 2 seasons he hasn?t got a single succesful signing (except Camoranessi whose skills were a pleasant surprise to all of us ), I mean Zalayeta, Moretti, Fresi, Baiocco, Legrotallie and Olivera are all in my view failure signings with all due respect to the mentioned names. And till now he hasn?t signed a single player to correct the mistake that happened last season in particular in the defense department and above all they have let Davids go!! Then Di Vaio and Maresca who were the best Juve players of the disastrous season of 2003-2004 which I really hope to forget.
Juve need world class defenders, Moggi has passed on Samuel, Lucio, Mexes, Ferrari and Carvalho this summer and 2 years ago they passed on Ferdinand, Nesta and Canavaro. What I mean is yes he does surprise us but not always in a pleasant way. All I hope for is to work out and sign some of these quality players that Juve needs like Emerson, Jankloviski, Gilardino, Oddo, Bonera, Diego, Cordoba...."these guys are what is left so hurry Luciano!"
Yousef T. (Kuwait)
I think he is losing his touch. He has signed some great players and some horrible players. I never understood why Marcelo Salas was signed. And why sell Di Vaio so cheap? Also he has sold Maresca and it is rumoured Brighi might join Roma in exchange for Emerson. He is selling all the young Italian talent from the club and signing players who are quite old. Juventus should have bought Cassano before he went to Roma. That was a horrible mistake. I hope he redeems himself by signing Gilardino and Bonera this season and not allowing them to go to Roma.
Varun Sadh
I think the idea that Luciano Moggi has lost his touch in the transfer market is just ridiculous. The fact that Maresca was a fan favorite is irrelevant, the guy was absolutely horrible on the pitch. However, Maresca is young so there is still time for him to improve, which makes Moggi?s decision to do a part-ownership with Fiorentina all the more ingenius. Adriano ring a bell? Inter worked out a part-ownership deal with Parma and once Adriano came into his own they brought him back to Milan immediately. The same could happen with Maresca if he performs well at Fiorentina. The luring of Capello to Turin also shows that Moggi has still got it as a negotiator. Moggi still knows how to acquire the best too, as shown by the capture of the impressive Roma defender Zebina and the Euro starlet Jankulovski. Plus I think Moggi is not done yet with Emerson, Wiltord, Ze Maria, Dacourt as possible targets. So, to answer your question I think Moggi is still the same transfer guru of years past.
Vishnu Pillai
Moggi is a transfer guru.... Everyone thinks Maresca is so good just because they look at his good performances but what about bad ones-(plenty). Just wait and see what Moggi will do about the midfield:
AM and LM-->occupied by the always brilliant Nedved
2 CMs-->Appiah, Emerson, Tachinardi, Chinelli (Maresca)-->there are obviously the ??extra?? midfielders
RM--> Camoronesi,Oliviera
This strategy is odviously brillant
Arnold Tan
Personally I think that Moggi is very sleezy and sneaky with his deals as Emerson should?ve been sold upwards of 15 million pounds but all Roma are going to get is around 8 million pounds plus Brighi. This happened because Moggi had a verbal agreement with Emerson which i believe is very sus. Roma could?ve sold him to Real Madrid for a larger transfer fee but Emerson and Moggi wanted to play around with Roma so Emerson said he?ll only leave for Juve. Another factor with Moggi is how he got Capello behind Roma?s backs which is just wrong. Being a Roma fan, I really dislike Juventus and I am disgusted by the way they treat Roma. Trust me this Italian still has it and will continue to annoy clubs for the future.
Joffa
Pure genius. He is always looking far down the road and planning for the long term. His moves are always investments and he leaves options for the club and the players with loans and part ownership deals when possible. He is also not often swayed by romantic notions. Moggi still has it.

Brazilian midfielder Emerson has finally left Roma and joined Juventus for an undisclosed fee.
It is believed that the 28-year-old was sold for a figure between £8m and £10m plus Matteo Brighi. The former Parma midfielder, however, is yet to agree terms with the capital side.
Emerson had reached an agreement with the Bianconeri some time ago but the two clubs had seemingly reached a stalemate with Real Madrid ready to pounce for the former Bayer Leverkusen man.
However, after a meeting yesterday with Juve?s Technical Director Luciano Moggi, Roma?s Franco Baldlini, revealed that the transfer had been completed.
?The deal was finally done on Tuesday,? confirmed the Sporting Director. ?There are only a few details that need to be ironed out and then both teams give the official confirmation of Emerson?s transfer to Juventus.?
This deal could open the door for Roma to buy Alberto Gilardino. The capital club now have the money to offer Parma for the Italian Under-21 striker.

Emerson spoke for the first time as a Juventus player this morning and he is already the leader that the bianconeri were desperately looking for.
"I can?t wait to meet my new team mates and Capello in Torino because I have been looking forward to this day for a long time," the Brazilian international said. "I have been training with my friends at Gremio recently waiting for a call from Italy and finally it has arrived".
"I can?t wait to play the first game in the Champions League and I will be there in the middle of the pitch fighting for the victory," he added. "I am not happy with how Roma behaved because Sensi had promised that I could have joined any club at the end of the season considering that I had refused a Chelsea transfer in January that would have made me a very rich man but as everybody knows things turned out differently".

Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi: "It will be a tricky match regardless of which of the two teams we will have to face. They are both very strong from the physical point of view and we cannot vafford to undestimated them. This game is too important for us - we cannot make mistakes."

For years he has been considered as the great transfer guru of Italian football. Loved, nearly adored by the Juventini, hated by the rest of Italy. Luciano Moggi used to be train station chief (urban legend or truth?), now he’s part of Juventus history.
We ask him to talk about the four queens of Italian football: Milan, Inter, Roma and naturally Juventus. With a jump to Sardegna, for the return to Serie A of a glorious club: Cagliari.
Director, let’s start from the two Milan teams: "Milan were already strong before, and now with the new arrivals they have strengthened themselves further. Inter, instead, bought a lot of good players and have a great coach. I think that both teams, apart from being protagonists for the Scudetto, will be able to show good football."
Then there’s Roma and Juve: "We have operated well, I’m satisfied. Roma is a question mark. They have Totti and Cassano, two world class players who can guarantee great performances. Then we have to see what they can do."
Exactly, what will Roma do? And Juve? What can we expect from the market? "From Juventus nothing. Our transfer market ended with Emerson’s purchase. We are fine this way. For Roma instead, I think they will end with Mexes and it’s nearly done for Ferrari. They will also need a midfielder and it should be Perrotta, considering Tommasi’s serious injury. Roma were already strong, if they obtain these players they will also be challenging for the league."
And Gilardino? Will you be ’fighting’ for him? "No, I think he will remain at Parma. At least for this year."
After the four queens of the league, a comment on Cagliari. They return to Serie A after four years: "I’m pleased. Because we are talking about a team which represents an entire region. And they also have a president who always puts in a lot of work and passion. The advantage of the rossoblu is that of having a whole region backing them. And let me say it, I’m happy for President Cellino, a great person. Whoever knows him well, and I’m one of these, knows how much work and enthusiasm he puts in for his Cagliari. For this reason I’m particularly happy for Cagliari’s promotion to Serie A."
Finally, let’s talk about betting. Moggi, would you like to give some advice on bets? "I would bet on Juve. But I can’t say otherwise. But I know well that it will be a very tough battle."

Serie A sides Juventus and Fiorentina are being linked with moves for Chelsea?s Romanian international striker Adrian Mutu.
There has been much speculation surrounding the striker?s future at Chelsea since the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho and according to Sky Sports, Juve and Fiorentina are both interested in signing the striker.
Mutu will have fierce competition for a place in the Chelsea first team following the arrival of striker Didier Drogba and Mateja Kezman.

Juventus and Fiorentina are trying to convince Roman Abramovich to let go Romanian forward Adrian Mutu to strneghten their respective squads.
Mutu has lost his first team spot with the arrivals of Drogba and Kezman and would welcome a return to Italy. On the other hand his price tag is too high for both the Bianconeri and Viola and therefore a loan would probably be the most likely solution if the player is let go.
Juventus have showed a poor attack during this pre-season, and the sale of Di Vaio did not help. Fiorentina on the other hand are looking for another quality player for their forward line, after succesfully luring Portillo on loan from Real Madrid.

As usual Moggi announced the other day that the transfer market for Juventus was closed and he is on the verge of signing one of the most promising Italian defenders.
Moggi has contacted Parma and has offered six million euro in cash for Bonera and considering the gialloblu?s financial situation it is a deal that they cannot refuse. So it looks like Juve are still working hard on the transfer market and Moggi certainly knows how to do his job well.

Juventus went down to another pre-season friendly defeat when they were beaten 2-0 by Fenerbahce in Turkey.
Pierre Van Hooijdonk bagged a brace for his side, the first a deflected free-kick, and the second a penalty after Paolo Montero?s handball.
Juve had a penalty of their own in the 20th minute. Alex Del Piero scored, but the spot-kick had to be retaken after Juve players encroached the area. He saw his second effort saved by Volken.
Emerson made his debut for the Bianconeri, playing the full 90 minutes.
Fenerbahce: Volkan; Onder (Yozgatli) Luciano, Servet, Fabiano; Serhat (Serkan) Umit, M.Aurelio, Tuncay; Van Hooijdonk, Murat (Akyel)
JUVENTUS: Buffon (Chimenti); Zebina, Legrottaglie, Montero, Pessotto (Birindelli); Camoranesi (Baiocco), Tacchinardi, Emerson, Zambrotta (Olivera); Del Piero (Miccoli), Trezeguet, Zalayeta.).

Claudio Gentile has announced his squad for the Olympics - but is playing down the chance of his stellar squad repeating the performances that saw them lift the European Under-21 Championship.
With the likes of Parma's superstar Alberto Gilardino included, Italy are looking in good form ahead of the Games.
Gentile has brought back most of his victorious Under-21 squad but also included Andre Pirlo, Matteo Ferrari and Ivan Pellizoli, putting the Azzurrini amongst the favourites to win the tournament.
"We have to forget our victory in the European Under-21 Championship and start with the same mentality as we did in that tournament," said Gentile.
"Getting a medal would be a miracle with Japan, Ghana and Paraguay all in better condition than us.
"This is a handicap for us. If we could have the same fitness as we did in the Under-21 tournament I wouldn't be so worried."
KEEPERS: Amelia (Livorno), Pellizoli (Roma)
DEFENDERS: Barzagli (Palermo), Bonera and Bovo (Parma), Chiellini (Juventus), Ferrari (Roma), Moretti (Valencia)
MIDFIELDERS: De Rossi (Roma), Donadel and Palombo (Sampdoria), Mesto (Reggina), Pinzi (Udinese), Pirlo (Milan)
FORWARDS: Del Nero and Sculli (Brescia), Gasbarroni (Palermo), Gilardino (Parma)

Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has indicated that Emerson will be the club's final signing of the summer.
Emerson completed his protracted transfer to the Turin club last week - and Moggi insists that he will be the final new face at the club, unless something lands in their lap
"Technically our market is ended," said Moggi. "We have achieved all our goals and are now finished.
"I suppose there could still be a few player changes if something interesting comes along.
"We have sold a lot more than many this summer - bringing in €20 million and reinvesting it.
"We are doing our best to achieve our goals this season."
Juventus were strongly linked with a move for Parma's exciting young striker Alberto Gilardino - but Moggi believes the prolific forward will stay at his current club.
"Gilardino will remain with Parma," concluded Moggi.

Juventus might not be going through a great pre-season following back to back defeats in their last outings, however for Mark Iuliano things are much better off-pitch.

The mother of the child, former 'letterina' of a television program Federica Villani, underwent a caesarean to deliver Nicolo.

Napoli have been declared bankrupt, according to news agency ANSA.
The club will officially find out their fate on Tuesday when a Naples court announces the final decision.
If bankruptcy is confirmed, it is likely a new club will start again in Serie C1 for the new campaign.
So far four applications have been received to start a new club in the city.
Potential new owner Luciano Gaucci said: "I am especially sorry for Salvatore Naldi (former president). He put so much money into this experience and really did everything he could to salvage Napoli."

Romanian striker Adrian Mutu of Chelsea is set to sign a one-year loan deal with Italian club Juventus, his agent said on Thursday. "Mutu left London today for Italy and he'll sign tomorrow a deal with Juventus," agent Gica Popescu told Reuters.
Popescu did not offer any financial details of the deal but said the deal could be extended if both clubs agreed.
Mutu joined Chelsea for 15.8 million pounds (24 million euros) from Parma last August as part of Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich's spending spree at the London club.
However after scoring four times in his first three games under former manager Claudio Ranieri, Mutu struggled with niggling injuries and a loss of form.
His chances of regular first team football this season look slim after new manager Jose Mourinho bolstered his striking options by signing Didier Drogba from Olympique Marseille and Mateja Kezman from PSV Eindhoven.

Juventus have offered English Premiership club Chelsea 12 million euros (14.5 million dollars) for Romanian striker Mutu.
Juventus have offered English Premiership club Chelsea 12 million euros (14.5 million dollars) for Romanian striker Adrian Mutu.
Thursday's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper reported that Mutu, a 24 million euro (29 million dollar) signing from Juve's Serie A rivals Parma last year, is keen on a return to Italy after failing to settle in London.
The Gazzetta claim that Juventus' general director Luciano Moggi is desperate to land the 25-year-old forward for the Turin giants' Champions League campaign and that newly-promoted Serie A club Fiorentina are also preparing a bid.
Mutu, who spent four seasons in Italy after leaving Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest, began well for Chelsea last season but the goals dried up after a bright start and a dip in form was followed by a string of niggling injuries.
He scored six goals in 25 English Premiership matches last season.

Matteo Ferrari is set to become one of Italy?s most reliable and outstanding defenders in the years to come. He has proven his worth in Serie A with both the giants and minnows of Italy?s top division. Now with a recent move to AS Roma, he looks to be a part of one of Italy?s most solid defences including, Philippe Mexes, Cristian Chivu and Christian Panucci.
Ferrari was born in the African nation of Algeria, his father being Italian and his mother Guinean. He began his career at Spal Calcio before moving onto Serie A giants Inter Milan. The blue side of Milan loaned out Ferrari to Genoa 1893, Lecce and Bari. He than returned to the San Siro, and the Nerazzuri, in the 2000/2001 season when Inter finished fifth.
A season later, he was put out on loan again to Parma where he impressed enough to gain a permanent move and help the Gialloblu come fifth for a spot in Europe. His outstanding performances continued in the next two seasons when he played for the Italian national team in their Euro 2004 qualifier against Azerbaijan.
Ferrari?s first national team experience came in the under-21 European Championships, which Italy won, he than made his first full debut against Turkey in 2002. All three of Italy?s matches were spent on the bench for Ferrari, though he has recently been called up to the Olympic squad as an over age player.
Ferrari?s move to the capital club, Roma, gives him another opportunity to impress in Europe and also on the fields of Italy where he should not disappoint. The Olympics could be Italy?s chance to make amends for their poor Euro 2004 campaign and with such an experienced back as Ferrari there, who would doubt their chances?

Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu is set to join Juventus on a year-long loan, according to his agent.
Adrian Mutu: Was successful in Serie A (PhilCole/GettyImages)
The Italian club have been pursuing the Romanian international for several weeks and could complete the transfer imminently.
'It's now 99% likely that Mutu will sign a contract with Juventus Torino today,' Mutu's agent, Ioan Becali, told Romanian channel TV Sport.
Mutu is to fly to Turin for a medical, and it is expected that he will sign a 12-month contract.
His departure from Stamford Bridge, albeit on a temporary basis, comes just a year after he signed from Parma.
The 25-year-old cost Chelsea £15.8million, but after a bright start to his career in the Premiership there came a lull in his performances and he finished last season with just six league goals.
The arrival of Didier Drogba apparently pushed Mutu to the back of the queue for places in Jose Mourinho's attack.
The Romanian was a major success in Italian football, and scored 17 goals in 30 matches during the 2002/03 season before signing for Chelsea, forging a lethal partnership with Adriano, who has since joined Inter Milan, another of Mutu's former clubs.

Juventus picked up a morale-boosting friendly win last night and Alessandro Del Piero insists they are on their way to becoming a great squad.
?It is always nice to lift a trophy, especially a prestigious one like the Trofeo Moretti,? insisted the captain after their wins over Inter and Palermo.
?Of course, this new Juve side is still a work in progress, but the signs are encouraging and we are certainly not lacking motivation. After all, we have just welcomed an important player like Emerson, although he has already shown in a couple of games that he is in excellent condition.?
The ex-Roma midfielder finally put pen to paper after months of legal wrangling with his former club and was impressive in the tournament game against Inter on Tuesday evening.
However, that was their first win ? and first goal ? after three consecutive friendly defeats against Fenerbahce, Inter and Milan. With just a week to go before the crucial Champions? League preliminary round ties, there is much work to do for Fabio Capello.
?We are improving every day,? assured Del Piero, ?and I expect that we will be confident of victory going into the match on August 10.?
Juventus will discover the name of their opponent this evening, after the clash between Kaunas and Djurgarden.

Juventus now know that they will take on Djurgardens in next week?s Champions? League preliminary round tie.
The Bianconeri were forced to wait on the news until after tonight?s encounter that saw the Swedes grab a 2-0 win away to Kaunas.
Fabio Capello?s side will open their European challenge on August 10, a crucial match in deciding the shape of this campaign.
Inter will take on Swiss outfit Basel in their preliminary round match, but the squad is beset by problems ahead of the first leg trip across the Alps on August 11.
Sinisa Mihajlovic is suspended, while Obafemi Martins is out of action with a knee injury and Christian Vieri is also doubtful through fitness worries.
Tragedy also struck the Nerazzurri today, as Adriano has flown out to Brazil following the sudden death of his father Almair Leite Ribeiro at the age of 44.

Some Italian newspapers, and his agent, claim that Adrian Mutu could sign for Juventus as early as this afternoon.
Romanian reports suggest representative Ioan Becali has revealed a deal has been struck for a one-year loan to the Turin giants.
?Juventus and Fiorentina have expressed an interest in the player,? explained his other agent Andrea Pretti in an earlier interview. ?What we need to understand now is the approach Chelsea are taking to Mutu?s situation.?
The 25-year-old former Parma and Verona star had a sparkling start to his Premiership career, but injuries and personality clashes saw him drop down the pecking order. The arrival of new buys Mateja Kezman and Didier Drogba now seems set to push him back towards Serie A.
?However,? pointed out Pretti, ?if we look at all the top clubs going into the Champions? League, they tend to have four world class strikers on their books. This is why I?m not sure Chelsea would want to give away Mutu.?
Nonetheless, his rapport with new Coach Jose Mourinho is said to be difficult, while Juventus are putting the pressure on to have Mutu replace Valencia-bound Marco Di Vaio.
Italian newspapers claim that a deal could be struck as early as this afternoon.
Fiorentina are also showing a great deal of interest in the player, but are unlikely to splash out after signing Chilean creative midfielder Jaime Valdes from Bari and taking Real Madrid?s Javier Portillo on loan.
The Corriere dello Sport suggests that the Bianconeri will take Mutu on loan with an option to buy half his contract at the end of the season for £7m, while the Gazzetta insists they will snap him up in a co-ownership deal immediately for £8m.
?Considering that Roman Abramovich?s side spent £16m on Mutu,? added his agent, ?I think the only likely solution would be to loan him out with the right to buy at the end of the season.?
This is not the only option for Juventus, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly rejected the opportunity to extend his contract with Ajax. As his current deal expires in 2006, the Dutch giants might be willing to sell him now in order to still make a profit.
However, it is more likely that the Swedish international ? who scored a stunning goal against Italy in Euro 2004 ? will stay on in Amsterdam for another year.

08/03/2004- PAVEL NEDVED IS THE 2004 GOLDEN FOOT
The 2004 Golden Foot is Pavel Nedved. The fair-haired boy from Cheb routed all his nine opponents in the race for the golden footprint on the Champions Promenade, and now his footprint is preserved in the football Walk of Fame in Monte Carlo, that was created on the initiative of Prince Albert of Monaco, of ?La Gazzetta dello Sport? and of World Champions Club.
Golden Ball less than 12 months ago, Nedved must now make space in his showcase for another award, because he was the favourite nominee of the fans from all over the world, who voted on the official web site www.goldenfoot.com.
?One never gets tired of prizes- the 2004 Golden Foot confessed. Now only one is missing, and it is the one I care for more: the Champions Cup?. The midfielder of Juventus, 32 years old next August 30th, placed his footprint beside Roberto Baggio?s, the winner of the first edition. Since last year on the Champions Promenade there are also the footprints of Rivera, Eusebio, Fontaine and Maradona, while Platini, Di Stefano and Zoff?s left their footprints on the occasion of the present edition.
?To be beside football players like these ones, who made the history of football ? continued Nedved ? is something I had not even dreamt of. But now the Champions League is what I have in my mind?.

Pavel Nedved has won the Golden Foot 2004 award and announced his international retirement in a bid to conquer the Champions' League.
"You never get tired of winning awards," smiled the 31-year-old Czech, "but I am now missing just the one trophy, the one I care the most about: the Champions' League."
It is with this in mind that Nedved confirmed his international retirement after a heartbreaking injury during the semi-final of the European Championships.
"I have already spoken to Coach Brueckner about this and will make it official within the next month. It isn't right that I should injure myself with the Czech Republic when Juve are the ones paying my wages. I must give my all for the Bianconeri now and cannot wait to recover from this setback."
That knee injury will rule him out of the Champions' League preliminary round ties in late August against either Djurgarden or Kaunas.
The Juventus star has lifted the Balon d?Or among a list of prizes following his fine campaign at the Stadio Delle Alpi and Euro 2004 semi-finalist run with the Czech Republic.

Massimo Oddo looks set to join Juventus over the next week, while Igor Tudor is heading towards the Premiership.
Newspapers have long been linking the Lazio fullback with the Bianconeri, but so far the deal has been on the back burner.
However, it?s believed that recent friendly outings have pushed Juve to make a firm bid for the 28-year-old defender.
Oddo would be available for £2m cash plus a player, who is likely to be either Mark Iuliano or Alessandro Birindelli.
Lazio are keen on taking Under-21 international Giorgio Chiellini instead, but the ex-Livorno player is also wanted by Udinese as part of their deal for Marek Jankulovski.
Meanwhile, there are more changes afoot in the Juventus defence with rumours that Igor Tudor has chosen his next club.
The Croatian, who can also play in midfield, is sought after in the Premiership and reportedly has an agreement in place with Tottenham. However, the two clubs have not yet worked out the terms of this move.

Juventus must beat Djurgarden at the Delle Alpi tomorrow evening, but injury worries could push Fabio Capello into a gamble on Fabrizio Miccoli.
?I am confident,? stated the Coach, ?because I can see that the players are nearly at peak fitness and we have been working all month with the express intention of being ready for this European match.?
Swedish outfit Djurgarden were considered among the easiest possible draws for the Champions? League preliminary round, but the tactician is cautious as ever.
?They are a loose cannon in this competition,? warned Capello. ?I have only seen videotapes of them so far, but they seem to be an organised and pacey side. Their players are also fairly tall, so they will be a danger on set-pieces.?
The Bianconeri are without a series of star names, as Mauro German Camoranesi, Pavel Nedved and the suspended Jonathan Zebina are out of action. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephen Appiah are also out of contention due to their participation in the Athens Olympics.
?It is my first Champions? League qualifier,? confessed the former Roma boss, ?but everyone must adapt and get into gear from the very first minute.?
These worries could push Capello to make some major changes, above all fielding a trident attack with Alessandro Del Piero and Fabrizio Miccoli supporting David Trezeguet.
The ex-Perugia starlet has been perhaps the form man of the summer for Juve and has probably done enough to earn himself a starting place for this crunch match.
Lilian Thuram has recovered from a shoulder injury to start on the right side of defence, while Gianluca Pessotto can step in if Gianluca Zambrotta is pushed further up the field.
Another option is to include Miccoli upfront, with the versatile Zambrotta switching to his old right wing position.
Probable Juventus line-up: Buffon; Thuram, Ferrara, Legrottaglie, Pessotto; Zambrotta, Tacchinardi, Emerson, Miccoli; Del Piero, Trezeguet

There is a growing swell of opinion that Alex Del Piero?s career is over, but the Juve man is determined to prove them wrong by winning the Champions? League.
?I am not worried by criticism,? insisted the Italian international, ?and just concentrate on playing football. I hardly even read the newspapers anymore. All that counts is that the club, Coach and teammates have faith in me.?
Pinturicchio has long been a controversial figure among Italian supporters, loved by the Bianconeri faithful but often singled out for insults when the Azzurri struggle at major tournaments.
The latest snub came from his childhood hero and former Juve legend Michel Platini, who noted this week that Del Piero ?used to have some qualities.?
?Michel has always been my idol,? said the Juventus captain, ?but it?s been a fair few years since I took his poster down off my wall.?
?As for the rest, I am well aware that the press manages to amplify everything, so that a mistake is blown up out of all proportion and a goal turns you into a national hero. Everyone needs to look at football in a more balanced fashion, even though I?m used to this song and dance by now.?
Del Piero was the man who replaced Roberto Baggio in the Juventus Number 10 shirt and was meant to fulfil his role with the Azzurri, but as he nears 30 the player is determined to conquer the trophy that has eluded him since 1996.
?We are concentrated,? he said ahead of tonight?s Champions? League preliminary round tie with Djurgarden.
?Juventus are not underestimating anyone and if there is someone who considers this match a pure formality then they do not belong in this team. We must seek out and expose their frailties without conceding a precious away goal at the Delle Alpi.?

At hihe o?clock at the Delle Alpi Juve and the new manager Capello will take part in a playoff for the first time. This is the first official game for the bianconeri even though the played against Djurgarden a friendly match back in 1990 losing 1-0.
However tonight things will be different: Juve has been getting ready for this match for quite a while now and their opponents are in the middle of the season so it will certainly be a competitive game.
Yesterday Capello and the captain Del Piero spoke about this game in the press conference and they both looked totally focused. The manager will probably go for a 4-4-2 with Buffon in goal, Ferrare and Legrottaglie in the middle of the defence, Thuram on the right and Pessotto on the left; Olivera and Zambrotta will have to push forward on the wings and Emerson and Tacchinardi will be in contol in the middle; up front the experienced partnership between Del Piero and Trezeguet.
The German Herbert Fandel will be the referee of the match.
STARTING LINE-UP:
JUVENTUS (4-4-2): Buffon, Thuram, Ferrara, Legrottaglie, Pessotto, Olivera, Emerson, Tacchinardi, Zambrotta, Del Piero, Trezeguet. On the bench: Chimenti, Tudor, Montero, Birindelli, Blasi, Zalayeta, Miccoli. Manager: Capello.
DJURGARDEN (4-3-3): Tourray, Concha, Karlsson, Kuivasto, Stenman, Arneng, Johansson, Johannensson, Barsom, Makondele, Hysen. On the bench: Wahlstrom, Storm, Backman, Dovicovic, Bapupa-Ngabu, Amoah, Larsen. Manager: Jonevret.

Do it Moggi!!
:D
Paul Montero could dress the mesh of the Fiorentina in the championship that it will begin to september. Viola, in fact, they have demanded to the Juventus the uruguayano player and the negotiation, in this moment, is active. Montero would have been demanded from Emiliano Mondonico, that it had trained the player in the Atalanta.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus were given a rude awakening in their Champions' League qualifier and fought back from 2-0 down to salvage a draw at the Delle Alpi. They must now win in Sweden or play out a high-scoring draw in order to qualify for the competition proper.
Juventus were the over-riding favourites for victory in this Champions' League preliminary round tie against Swedish League winners Djurgardens. Fabio Capello's first official match was without the injured Pavel Nedved, Mauro German Camoranesi and suspended Jonathan Zebina, while it was the first time this club has ever gone through a qualifier for the European Cup.
With this in mind, Capello fielded a trident attack of Fabrizio Miccoli, Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet in the driving rain of Turin.
However, it was a tough start for the Bianconeri, as within the opening four minutes Gianluigi Buffon was forced into two difficult saves. First he firmly held on to Matias Concha's drive, then needed quick reflexes to tip a spectacular glancing header from Stenman over the bar.
Juve tried to fight back with Miccoli's odd finish with the outside of his right foot, well held by the Swedish goalkeeper, and the little forward set up Trezeguet only for the Frenchman to lose his footing. Their most dangerous player was Gianluca Zambrotta, who often earned free kicks and space down the left flank with his trademark runs.
Yet the Swedes remained dangerous and a deflected Hysen effort risked drifting over Buffon. There was an even worse scare on the half-hour mark, as Hysen's header was toe-poked into the net by Stenman, but the linesman correctly raised his flag for an offside position.
Manuele Blasi received the first booking of the game for a very high tackle on Karlsson, but just before the break Juventus had their best chance of the first half. Zambrotta's centre found the head of Emerson and goalkeeper Dembo Tourray did remarkably well to turn it over the bar with the edge of one hand.
Soon after, Tourray was again crucial as he got down to flick a Blasi angled drive round the far post.
However, in the final minute of the first half Alessio Tacchinardi flew in with a completely mis-timed tackle on Arneng and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot. Johansson stepped up and successfully converted past Buffon to give Djurgarden the lead and what could be a decisive away goal.
The Bianconeri were given a good chance to get back into the game within the first minute of the restart, but Tacchinardi was unable to take advantage of a defensive error.
Instead, it was Djurgarden who made it two moments later. Hysen combined with Arneng inside the penalty area and the static defenders allowed Hysen to thump an angled drive into the far corner past a helpless Buffon.
Juventus got back into the game within two minutes, as a wayward Zambrotta effort from the edge of the box was caught on Trezeguet's foot and the Frenchman did well to sweep it past the goalkeeper from six yards.
Capello chose to make a substitution soon after, replacing Tacchinardi with young Uruguayan midfielder Ruben Olivera.
Miccoli wanted a penalty when he rushed into the box between two defenders, but the nudge from Karlsson was slight at best and the referee waved play on.
Trezeguet's goal seemed to shake the team out of its turpor and they started playing good football for the first time in the match, but Emerson ended a sweeping move with a shot that was clearly over the bar.
On the hour mark Del Piero and Zambrotta combined brilliantly and the cross in to Olivera was charged down by some desperate defending.
The pressure paid off and moments later Emerson scored the first goal of his Juventus career. The former Roma man rose to nod in a curling Olivera cross from eight yards and draw the tie level on 2-2.
Miccoli was particularly tense and booked for a sneaky kick on Karlsson, but the Bianconeri kept on pushing with an inspured Olivera. This time Del Piero trapped his cross and cut it back for Miccoli's first time shot, parried with some difficulty by Tourray.
Trezeguet failed to latch on to Miccoli's through ball, then Del Piero was caught offside at the end of another good team move. As the rain began to pour down, the conditions made it increasingly difficult to pass the ball around cleanly and the furious tempo subsided.
There was a surprise substitution ten minutes from time, as Marcelo Zalayeta and Alessandro Birindelli replaced captain Del Piero and Lillian Thuram. This meant Juve ended the game with three Uruguayan internationals on the field.
The appalling conditions almost handed Trezeguet a goal, as his effort skimmed along the ground and was bundled out by Tourray. At the other end there was a similar scenario, as Buffon fell on top of the ball when clearing a backpass with a Djurgarden player Hysen lurking behind him.
Trezeguet thought he had scored the 3-2 with a splendid chip, but the goal was correctly disallowed for offside, then Miccoli's free kick flew over the bar. The Swedes had the last chance of the game in stoppages with substitute Larssen's header off target.

Correct me if i'm wrong, Moggi is the one who decides if Juve has to spend money or not, buying new players. That guy is Giraudo. He's the administrator of Juventus spa, and he's the one who knows if we have money to spend or not. It's a fact Juventus is an honest team and doesnt have debts like other teams (Lazio 900m ?, Roma 300m ?, Naples and Fiorentina failed, Parma 1000m ?, etc..). We pays taxes too (no other teams in the Seria A does it). You can ask me: "Why are we the only "stupid" ones to pay everything?". But you cant diss Giraudo or Moggi if they are honests. C'mon.
About Moggi saying we dont need defenders, it was just a forced declaration. I mean he HAD to say that, cause he cant say our defence sux. Just think about it. Real Madrid's defence sucked last year, but Perez never admitted that. You just cant talk bad about your team. For multiple reasons (ex. if Moggi says Iuliano sux, nobody will buy him, or they'll make low offers).
Now, about the team, this team is still incomplete. Moggi and Giraudo are waiting for Juve to pass (hopefully) this qualifications to be 100% sure we'll play in the Champions League. If we will, and we will receive money from the qualifications, we will invest them trying to sign a pair of good players. If not, we will leave the team like that, hoping for youngs to step up (Olivera, Kapo, Miccoli, Blasi, etc) and be ready for the next season. So think positive: this Juventus aint the "final" one, and we can still go in Sweden and beat them.

This game showed, as if we didn't already know, that it doesn't matter how good your midfield or attackers are, without a good defence, you don't have a chance. If 'little' Djurgarden can score 2 against us, what will Milan and Inter etc do?
The last 15 mins were a non event, we tired and the heavy rain had made it impossible to play any ggod football. Djurgarden had a freekick in injury time and from it one of their players headed just over, if it was on target he would've scored.

it was again our defence that put us in this situation. I think we really need a new centre back.
Olivera, Emerson and Zambo I heard were the stand-outs. We may have to consider him a starter. Tacch who is always an average player and should not be a starter is obviously not in form.
Assuming Nedved cannot make the next game, we may have to consider starting with Olivera and using Thuram as a centre back.
--------------Buffon-----------------
Birri---Thuram---Ferrara---Zambo
----Camo---Blasi---Emerson------
--------------Olivera-----------------
-----Trezeguet---Del Piero-------
Btw.....I always knew Olivera was under-rated....he should get more starts this season.

Pippo Inzaghi has already worn the Bianconeri jersey and the same honour could be bestowed upon his younger brother Simone.
It is well known that Juventus are looking for a tall striker to act as back-up to David Trezeguet, especially after last night's 2-2 draw with Djurgarden highlighted the lack of strength in depth, but their options have been limited by a tight budget.
The move for Adrian Mutu collapsed, while Parma continue to maintain that Alberto Gilardino is not for sale.
Simone Inzaghi would fit the bill, as he is available due to Lazio?s severe financial difficulties and does not mind a benchwarmer role.
It is reported he would be available for just £1.7m plus the loan of French midfielder Olivier Kapo or Uruguayan forward Marcelo Zalayeta.
The two clubs are already in negotiations as Juve have targeted fullback Massimo Oddo and winger Cesar, although Inter are in pole position for the Brazilian.
In other transfer news, Livorno are also keeping it in the family, as Cristiano Lucarelli could soon be joined by his younger brother Alessandro. The defender spent last season on loan at Fiorentina, but is still owned by Brescia.
The Viola have sold defender Tomas Manfredini to Serie B outfit Catania, while Siena are in advanced negotiations for Palermo midfielder Daniele Di Donato and Milan wide man Serginho.

Samuel Kuffour's agent Oscar Damiani has ruled his client out of making a move from Bayern Munich to Italian giants Juventus.
Following the Italian giants' 2-2 draw against Swedish club Djurgardens in the UEFA Champions League, their defence has been criticised.
The likes of Daniele Bonera and Fabio Cannavaro have been linked with a move to Fabio Capello's side, along with Kuffour.
However, Damiani has stated Serie A was once interested in the Ghana international, but that the stopper will not don the Juve shirt this term.
"Kuffour is a player that Fabio Capello would have liked to have at Roma about two seasons ago," explained Damiani to Guerin Sportivo.
"But now, there is no chance he could wear Juve's jersey."

Juventus are considering a move for Ajax defender John Heitinga.
After failing in bids to land Arsenal centre-half Sol Campbell and Bayern Munich's Sammy Kuffour, Juve are now turning their attentions to Heitinga, says Tuttsport.
Juve enjoy a good relationship with Ajax and have been following Heitinga's progress over the last 12 months. AC Milan are also tracking the teenager, with chief scout Cesare Maldini having watched him at Euro2004.

The president of River Plate Jose Maria Aguilar has admitted he is aware that several European clubs are after his young gem, Javier Mascherano.
Arsenal are favourites from Juventus for the 20 year-old Argentina international, but Aguilar insists he has not fielded any official approach from Europe for the young midfielder.
"At this moment I have not received any fax," he said. "I know that in Europe there's alot of talk about Mascherano, but nobody has contacted us."
Arsenal are said to be preparing a £7.5 million offer for Mascherano, who is also being tracked by Juve's South American representatives in Argentina.

Juve director general Luciano Moggi has offered Olivier Kapo and Marcelo Zalayeta, plus £2.5 million - on request of coach Fabio Capello - in exchange for wing-back pair Massimo Oddo and Cesar.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito has rejected the offer and instead is demanding that Giorgio Chiellini, Mark Iuliano and Igor Tudor come to Rome instead.
Juve are considering the proposal and in the meantime have also asked Lotito about striker Simone Inzaghi, who Capello fancies as an understudy for David Trezeguet this season

I've never seen this Javier Mascherano guy in action but a number of clubs are interested in him and from what I've heard on the forum he seems a promising talent. If Appiah goes to Arsenal we'd need another DM and this is where Mascherano could come into play. (I'm not so keen on Appiah anyways, though I'm willing to see how he developes over this season and perhaps the next).
From Lazio I only want Oddo, and please Moggi/Capello, don't go giving away players like Kapo and Chiellini who have had solid pre-seasons and are very young. If they have potential, which seems to be the case, we need to exploit it. Cesar isn't needed, unless we've given up on Jankulovski. Inzaghi would be ok, but not my first choice.
Heitinga? Well, he's very talented and has alot of footballing years ahead of him, but he's not exactly the defender I had in mind. If possible we should restart talks with Inter about Cannavaro and see how that goes because we desperately need a world-class centre-half. I know that he's fairly old and hasn't played well at club level for some time now, but IMO he still has it in him. Squillaci and Kroldrup are younger riskier options, but would still satisfy me for now.

Juventus need a victory in Sweden to enter the Champions? League, but Gianluca Zambrotta is confident they?ll get the result they need.
?We watched the video of the match,? he revealed after the 2-2 draw with Djurgarden, ?and now understand what we did wrong. We certainly didn?t underestimate our opponents, but we were lacking in aggression and pressure.?
The Bianconeri are now left with a tough task to qualify for the top European competition, needing a win in Sweden or a high-scoring draw.
?The Coach had warned us about their counter-attacks, but at the start we had difficulty getting into the rhythm of the game and dictating the tempo. We allowed Djurgarden too much of the initiative.?
Zambrotta was one of the few Juventus players who impressed throughout the whole 90 minutes, even if their fightback from 2-0 down at least gave some hope for the second leg.
?Now we have two weeks to improve and prepare for the decider,? added the Italian international. ?Last season wasn?t great, but we need the fans to give us time and support. I am convinced by one thing: we will not miss out on the Champions? League.?

Pavel Nedved has a beatifull house on a golfcourt just outside Turin.
If after the training Del Piero comes by to hit a ball, he sees the Czech often. Actualy never with a goldclub in his hands, but always in a training-outfit and with runshoes on. While Del Piero tries to hit a 'hole in one'', Nedved runs kiles around the golfcourt. He is the ultimate 'trainingbeast'. Grown up with the hard Eastern-rules, poisioned to become better and get everything out of his carreer.
It happend. He is perfectly 2-footted, has a exploding shot, fantastic technique and great tactical realization, and is accept explosive, also untired (if that's ok) by a unique gameritme. With that, Nedved became the best player of Europe, that by Juventus legend Zinedine Zidane has been forgotten.

Juventus have again been linked with a move for Arsenal centre back Sol Campbell, according to reports in Italy.
The Bianconeri seem keen to strengthen their backline after conceding goals in the 2-2 UEFA Champions League qualifying draw with Swedish side Djurgardens this week, with Juve in need of scoring in the second leg in Sweden to reach the group stages of Europe's top club competition.
Their defensive frailties against Djurgardens seemed to have further highlighted Juve's need to add a quality defender for the new season, with Campbell being mentioned again as a target for the Stadio Delle Alpi side.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player, who is currently sidelined with an Achilles injury he picked up with England at Euro 2004, has been stalling over signing a new long-term contract with The Gunners.
With Campbell's current deal to expire at the end of the season, there are suggestions that Juve would look to sign the England man by exchanging Stephan Appiah with the North London outfit.
In the meantime, The Old Lady have reported opened talks with Serie A rivals Lazio for fellow defender Massimo Oddo.
It is also being reported in Italy that Juve officials are currently in London to finalise the move of Croatian defender Igor Tudor to Spurs.
The 26-year-old stopper, who can also operate in midfield, is thought to be surplus to requirements with the Bianconeri and is thought to be attracting the attention of Jacques Santini's side.

Milan and Juventus failed to get the better of Serie A competitors Sampdoria and Livorno in last night?s friendly action.
The Rossoneri were comfortably 2-0 up at half-time in their Trofeo Seat clash with Sampdoria at the San Siro.
Manuel Rui Costa was used in Andrea Pirlo?s deep midfield role and proved effective, setting up Jon Dahl Tomasson?s opener, while Kaka?s fierce effort from distance doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Jaap Stam made his debut for his new team playing in central defence.
Massive changes to the two line-ups made the second half a far scrappier affair, with Serginho thumping a penalty on to the upright, but Sampdoria managed to fight back.
The Blucerchiati draw level through Fabio Bazzani?s header and Francesco Flachi?s long-range strike, although it took an absolute howler from Dida for the ball to go in.
The tie went to penalties and the decisive error was by Milan goalkeeper Dida (pictured), who decided to take the opposite role in the shoot-out. Other misses came from Hernan Crespo, Nicola Pozzi, Fausto Rossini and Max Tonetto.
Juventus were also in action on Friday night, but only managed a 1-1 draw with Serie A new boys Livorno.
The Bianconeri fielded what was practically a first-team line-up and were unlucky early on when Alessandro Del Piero?s lob clipped the crossbar and Ruben Olivera?s bicycle-kick was well saved.
Jonathan Zebina broke the deadlock with a rare goal just before the break, skipping past two defenders and placing a low drive to the left of the goalkeeper.
However, Livorno made several changes at half-time and introduced their best players, eventually grabbing the equaliser when Danilevicius sprung the offside trap.
?It was a good performance,? insisted Fabio Capello, ?especially in the first half when we had three goal scoring opportunities. We had a few more problems after the break.?
Siena were held to a 1-1 draw in their friendly meeting with Serie D side Poggibonsi. Gigi Simoni?s men had gone a goal down and only managed to snatch the equaliser in the final minutes through Serafini?s header.

The Bianconeri have pinpointed Sol Campbell as the key to solving their defensive worries and have offered £7m plus Stephen Appiah.
Juventus had one of their worst defensive records in recent memory last season, letting in 42 goals in 34 games, and the shock 2-2 draw with Djurgarden only highlighted the need for changes.
Although names such as Fabio Cannavaro and Massimo Oddo have been mentioned, it seems that Fabio Capello has his heart set on the experience of England international Campbell.
It is now reported that the Turin side has offered £7m cash plus the services of Ghanaian international Stephen Appiah, who is on his way home following their exit from the Athens Olympics.
Arsenal were hoping to keep hold of the 30-year-old defender, but would be willing to accept a switch if Juventus raise their bid to £10m.
There is room for manoeuvre here and director general Luciano Moggi is trying to whittle down the price tag based on Campbell?s recent injury problems.
It must also be noted that the former Spurs man has not yet penned a new contract.
Another option is Fabio Cannavaro, whose deal with Inter also expires in June 2005. The Nerazzurri star was originally offered to Real Madrid, but could now be exchanged with Juventus winger Mauro German Camoranesi.

The former Arsenal, Real Madrid and PSG striker has been linked with moves to Monaco and Lyon but now Juventus are reportedly preparing a bid for the £10m rated player.

(Updates with details of other bans)
By Simon Evans
MILAN, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Six players from Italy's top two divisions have been banned for their role in gambling-related match-fixing, the Italian Football League said on Wednesday.
Modena, who were relegated last season, will start their Serie B campaign with five points deducted following Wednesday's decision by the League's disciplinary commission.
Sampdoria defender Stefano Bettarini, who played once for Italy last season, received a five-month ban and his club has been handed a 15,000 euro ($18,140) fine. Prosecutors had asked for Bettarini to be banned for three years.
The League has been probing several matches from last season's Serie A and B championships after investigating intercepted telephone and text messages.
Giuseppe Papadopulo, who was coach of Serie A club Siena last season, was banned for five months and the club's defender Roberto D'Avera was given six months.
HEAVY PUNISHMENTS
The heaviest punishments came for two players who are currently without clubs -- former Modena midfielder Antonio Marasco has been banned for three years and former Siena goalkeeper Generoso Rossi for one year.
The 34-year-old Marasco is out of contract and the ban is almost certain to end his career.
Bettarini is the most high profile case since his wife is a presenter of one of Italy's top soccer television shows.
From the Serie B games investigated, Pescara's Maurizio Caccavale received a six-month ban and Como's Alfredo Femiano got five months.
Como, Pescara and Siena were all punished with small fines while Siena officials Stefano Osti and Nelson Ricci have been barred from League activities for six and seven months respectively.
Inter Milan striker Nicola Ventola, who played for Siena last season, was cleared and former Chievo coach Luigi Del Neri was also found not guilty of charges that he failed to report information to the soccer authorities

Djurgarden 1 - 4 Juventus (3-6 agg)
Del Piero 10 (J), Arneng 19 (D), Trezeguet 33, 86 (J), Nedved 54 (J)
Rasunda Stadium, Stockholm
Juventus are in the Champions' League after their confident 4-1 victory in Stockholm, including a strike from the returning Pavel Nedved.
The Bianconeri needed a victory in Sweden, or a high-scoring draw, to reach the Champions' League following the shock 2-2 result in the first leg. Nedved was back in action for his first official appearance since suffering a knee injury in Euro 2004, while Gianluigi Buffon was able to start despite a back problem.
Failure to reach the competition proper would be a massive blow for Fabio Capello's side, both in terms of their ambitions and their spending power over the final week of the transfer market.
There was a tense start to the game, as within the first couple of minutes Johannesson fell after what appeared to be an accidental elbow from David Trezeguet.
Juventus broke the deadlock after ten minutes with a well-worked goal. Right winger Ruben Olivera placed a low cross in for Alessandro Del Piero's delightful flick from seven yards. The captain had been roundly insulted after his first leg performance, but scored the opener with a splendid finish with the outside of his left foot.
Djurgarden remained dangerous and soon after Hysen - who had netted in Turin - skipped past both Lilian Thuram and Manuele Blasi before turning his shot just over the bar.
However, Juve were more aggressive and Tourray could only parry Del Piero's shot into the path of Nedved, whose follow-up was also charged down.
Yet it was Djurgarden who drew level on 19 minutes when Hysen caused yet more problems down the left flank and the ball was eventually slammed in from the edge of the box by Arneng.
Juve hit back and Tourray flew to parry Olivera's long-range effort, then Nedved charged into the box on Del Piero's through ball and was cut off by a desperate challenge.
Emerson's looping header dipped just over the crossbar, then Gianluca Zambrotta's spectacular rising drive was palmed out with some difficulty.
Juventus restored their lead on the half-hour mark with David Trezeguet, who struck his volley into the ground from an Alessandro Birindelli cross after it had been touched on by Del Piero.
This was a very important strike, as from here on the Bianconeri could afford to draw and take the tie either to extra time or to victory on the away goals rule.
Moments later they nearly grabbed their third. Zambrotta combined with Nedved and the Italian's cross was met by another fine Trezeguet volley, only this time goalkeeper Tourray was ready for him with a reaction save.
Del Piero was halted for a very dubious offside position, then Zambrotta's combination with the captain concluded with his finish skimming the woodwork.
The second half could not have started better for the visiting side, as within nine minutes Pavel Nedved had given them a crucial strike. Del Piero's taut free kick from the left found the Czech hero's finish from close range.
Hysen remained Djurgarden's most dangerous player and his angled drive was fingertipped round the post by Buffon mere moments later.
But the second half was far quieter as Juve made the most of their lead, while the Swedes lost heart having to score another three goals to turn this tie around.
Capello's first substitution was performed with just nine minutes left on the clock, but it was not Nedved who came off, as Marcelo Zalayeta replaced Del Piero.
It proved an inspired change, as in the closing stages Zalayeta's low cross was tapped in by Trezeguet from the six-yard box to put the result beyond any doubt.
Djurgarden: Tourray; Concha, Kuivasto, Storm, Karlsson; Arneng, Johansson, Johannesson (Dovicovic 61); Bapupa (Barsom 46), Stenman (Makondele 76); Hysen
Juventus: Buffon; Birindelli, Thuram, Montero, Zambrotta; Olivera, Blasi, Emerson, Nedved (Kapo 87); Trezeguet, Del Piero (Zalayeta 81)

Juve complete double swoop
Tuesday, 31 August 2004
Juventus FC have signed Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic from AFC Ajax for around ?19m while also completing a deal for defender Fabio Cannavaro from FC Internazionale. The latter transfer is an exchange agreement which sends Uruguayan goalkeeper Fabian Carini in the opposite direction.
Scored against Italy
Ibrahimovic, who scored a memorable goal against Italy at UEFA EURO 2004?, arrives at the Stadio Delle Alpi for a reported ?19m. The 22-year-old is understood to have signed a four-year contract, official confirmation of which will follow later today. Ibrahimovic scored 13 goals in 16 games to help Ajax win the Eredivisie title last season. He had joined the Amsterdam club from Malmö FF in 2001 for ?7.8m and in 2002 hit the winning goal in the Dutch Cup final.
Conflict
Juventus are acquiring a virtuouso talent, an example of which came on 22 August in a 6-2 victory over NAC Breda, when he dribbled past five NAC defenders and the goalkeeper to score. However, he had caused unrest in the Ajax squad after a couple of crude challenges on club colleagues during Sweden's friendly against the Netherlands earlier this month, one of which sidelined the Ajax captain Rafael van der Vaart with an ankle injury. Ironically, Juventus's first UEFA Champions League assignment is away to Ajax on 15 September.
Three-year deal
Cannavaro's arrival in Turin was less of a surprise. The 30-year-old defender has agreed a three-year contract with the Bianconeri, which will pay him the ?9m he would have collected in the two years left on his Inter deal. The San Siro club were prepared to lose the Italy captain having signed eight players this summer, including defenders Sinisa Mihajlovic and Nicolas Burdisso.
Parma old boys
Cannavaro made his Serie A debut as an SSC Napoli player against Juventus in 1993. He joined Parma FC in 1995/96 before moving to the San Siro in a ?23m deal two years ago. At Juventus he will be reunited with his former Parma team-mates Gianluigi Buffon and Lilian Thuram.
Carini contract
"I'm sure that Thuram and Cannavaro will form a great defensive partnership again," Juventus coach Fabio Capello said. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Carini has inked a four-year contract with Inter. The Uruguayan international transferred to Juventus in 2000/2001 but spent the last two seasons on loan at R. Standard de Liège in Belgium.
