Juventus
IN:
Kapo, Emerson, Cannavaro, Chiellini, Zebina, Capello, Zlatan, Blasi
OUT:
Davids, Maresca, Chiellini, Benjamin etc.
Verdict: Awesome transfer market from Juventus, Moggi did great job again despite the lack of confidence from fans. Juventus made the best transfer of this summer with Capello, Emerson and specially with Cannavaro. Zlatan's acquiring is still a mystery to me personally, I wonder who he'll react when he'll sit on the bench as Trezegol's sub. And I wonder why the hell didn't we get better one (Gilardino) since we obviously had the money. Anyway, my verdict is really positive...
From scale 0-10, I'll give us 9 and a half :)

Croatian international defender Igor Tudor has renewed his contract with Juventus FC until 2007.
'Really happy'
"I feel at home at Juve," the 26-year-old said. "I am really happy with this new contract because it means the club trust me. The new deal will inspire me to carry on improving and to reach all the team's major goals." Tudor joined Juventus from HNK Hajduk Split in 1998, helping them to two Serie A triumphs despite a series of injuries.
Ajax opener
Juventus today learned that they will begin their UEFA Champions League campaign by visiting AFC Ajax, before meeting Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC and FC Bayern München in Group C.

Su Miccoli Fiorentina e Lecce hanno fatto richieste ufficiali
31/08/2004

Fabrizio Miccoli has officially signed for Fiorentina in a co-ownership deal during the closing minutes of trading.
The Juventus man had been disgruntled at the arrival of Ajax forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic ? a deal that has still not been made official by the two clubs ? and requested a transfer.
His hometown club Lecce had made an official request, but Miccoli has now signed for the Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit.
It is not the first move between the two rivals this summer, as Giorgio Chiellini and Enzo Maresca have already made the trip across.
It is reported that Fiorentina have paid £3m for half of Italian international Miccoli?s contract.
There are also claims, so far unsubstantiated, that the Viola have signed Julio Ricardo Cruz on loan from Inter.
Meanwhile, Juventus have sold midfielder Davide Baiocco to Perugia, while Jay Bothroyd returns to the Premiership for Blackburn Rovers.

but miccoli is already 25 and we all know why he wanted to leave juve, he want 1st team football and wish him all the best at florentina. i hope he make his mark and break into the azzurri as a 1st team player as well
btw roma play florentina on the 1st game and juve has just make our life more difficult by giving miccoli to florentina

LISBON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Roberto Bettega of Italy's Juventus was elected chairman of the G-14 group of big European soccer clubs on Thursday.
Bettega succeeded Florentino Perez of Real Madrid for a two-year term as head of the G-14 executive commission. The G-14 panel met at Porto's Dragao stadium.
The executive panel is made up of Juventus, England's Arsenal, Porto, Spain's Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund of Germany.
The G-14, which groups 18 of Europe's biggest clubs, also sent a letter to FIFA, which oversees international soccer, to ask for clarification about rules for players lent to national sides.

Italy?s Alessandro Del Piero will be available for Saturday?s World Cup qualifier against Norway.
The Juventus ace has been struggling with a calf problem for most of the week, which had worried boss Marcello Lippi.
However, the No 10 trained this morning and took part in a small practice game later in the day.
Del Piero is now in contention to begin the Palermo tie even if Lippi may decide to start him on the bench instead.
Alex seems to be in competition with Fabrizio Miccoli, his now former Juve teammate, for the second striker shirt.

Del Piero benched for Norway test
http://www.eurosport.com/imgbk/FOOTBL/ALL/big_MD-I144332.jpg
Italy coach Marcello Lippi has confirmed that striker Alessandro Del Piero will not start Saturday's World Cup Qualifier against Norway. The Juventus captain has been troubled all week by a muscle strain, and Lippi said he is not fit to play 90 minutes, but could still feature from the bench.
"Will he be on the bench? We'll see. He has recovered from this problem brilliantly, but he is not ready to start."
Fiorentina's deadline day signing Fabrizio Miccoli is expected to fill Del Piero's advanced playmaking role, adding to an Azzurri side with an unfamiliar, youthful look.
Lippi also confirmed that Alberto Gilardino, Daniele Bonera and Giuseppe De Rossi could all start in Palermo.
Italy desperately need a win after a disappointing first-round exit from Euro 2004, and a poor result could increase the pressure on Lippi, already under fire after a 2-0 humiliation by Iceland in his first game in charge.
Christian Vieri and Fabio Cannavaro miss the trip through injury, while Francesco Totti is still suspended for spitting at Denmark's Christian Poulsen.
Probable Italy line-up (4-4-2): Buffon - Favalli, Nesta, Materazzi, Bonera - Fiore, De Rossi, Gattuso, Fiore - Miccoli, Gilardino

i agree with him....gd choice to move..
Marco Di Vaio says he wanted out of Juventus because he couldn?t waste another season as Alex Del Piero?s reserve.
The striker made the revelation today just days after the club decided to sell Fabrizio Miccoli to Fiorentina ? in order to keep faith with their captain.
"Out of Del Piero and myself they decided to sacrifice me," said a disappointed Miccoli earlier this week.
Di Vaio, who joined Spanish champions Valencia for £8m, understands his former teammate?s situation.
"Zlatan Ibrahimovic?s arrival changed everything and what Miccoli said about Del Piero is true," he told Tuttosport.
"I was never given the chance to start on the same level as Alex. I only played when he was injured.
"I knew that boss Marcello Lippi preferred Del Piero and I knew that he was the crowd favourite. I had to prove myself all of the time though."
Despite leaving the Old Lady, a giant of the Italian and European game, Di Vaio has no regrets.
"I made the right decision," he added. "I pushed for a move because I no longer felt the faith of the club. I?m now even more convinced of my choice to leave.
"There were three of us at Juventus in competition for just one shirt. It was like that with the old Coach and the same problem would have occurred under Fabio Capello.
"It didn?t take long for me to realise in July that out of me or Miccoli, it was I who should leave. But I never imagined that he would be sold too.

Juventus had a £7 million bid for Benfica fullback Miguel rejected, it has been revealed.
The Portuguese international also had a five-year deal drawn up for him by Juve officials, but the deal never got that far after Benfica chief Luís Filipe Vieira rejected the bid.
Miguel has a buy-out clause of £10 million and Juve are expected to try again when the January market opens.

Zebras...:D
AN ITALIAN zoo has revealed how Juventus coach Fabio Capello has bizarrely agreed to buy them three new zebras. The zebra is said to have been the inspiration behind Juventus? adoption of their famous black and white striped kit, and the issue was raised during conversations between Capello and one of the zoo?s directors.
"We were joking with Capello," said a spokesman, "and mentioned that our zebras were severely lacking in numbers. We didn?t expect to hear any more about it.
"A couple of days later he telephoned to say he had found a solution to our problem and that three zebras were on their way. They have been promised for next week."

Blasi on a high
Monday 6 September, 2004
Juventus ace Manuele Blasi says he?s now living a dream after last season?s nightmare campaign.
The midfielder was suspended last term for failing a drug test, while on loan at Parma, but he?s archived those difficulties now.
"I can?t moan," he stated. "I was recalled to Juventus over the summer and now I?m in the Italian national squad. I can?t ask for more."
Blasi has had an impressive pre-season in Turin but he?s aware that he must continue to improve or face life on the bench.
"I know that I?m in competition with a great player like Alessio Tacchinardi at Juventus for a starting shirt," he noted.
"Yet the season will be a long one and I?m sure there will be space for everyone. I?ve not come here to steal anyone?s jersey.
"I?m just aiming to be ready when I?m called upon for both my club and my country from now on."
The former Under-21 international was also asked for his opinion on the captures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fabio Cannavaro.
"I don?t really need to make a comment because it is clear to everyone that they are two excellent signings," he added.

Brescia 0 - 3 Juventus
Nedved 35 (J), Trezeguet 38 (J), Ibrahimovic 69 (J)
Stadio Rigamonti
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juventus got off to a winning start as they leap to the top of the table with this comfortable victory.
Fabio Capello has won a League title with three different sides, Milan, Real Madrid and Roma, now aiming to make it four at the helm of Juventus. He faced a tough opening trip to Brescia, now shorn of Roberto Baggio, but with the experience of ex-Inter men Matias Almeyda and Daniele Adani.
Ruben Olivera was set to start, but picked up a minor injury during the warm-up and made way for Mauro German Camoranesi. Fabio Cannavaro made his official debut in a Bianconeri jersey due to Paolo Montero's injury, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic was left on the bench. Andrea Caracciolo recovered from a fitness problem to spearhead the Brescia attack.
Alessandro Del Piero was confident after his winning goal for Italy against Moldova midweek. His was the first real chance after four minutes when he earned a free kick and his finish was charged down with some difficulty by Luca Castellazzi. The goalkeeper was also called into a fine save on Pavel Nedved's long-range effort.
Caracciolo was a fitness doubt before the game and only lasted 24 minutes before making way for fellow Under-21 international Simone Del Nero.
Brescia went close when a free kick was taken quickly and Gianluigi Buffon had to rush off his line to close down Del Nero.
But the deadlock was finally broken on 34 minutes. A Del Piero corner kick found the head of Pavel Nedved from six yards, although Brescia's defence was not as attentive as it could have been.
Moments later the Bianconeri made it two with a smart team move. Nedved took a free kick quickly and Jonathan Zebina pulled it back for Trezeguet's tap-in from six yards.
Brescia wasted two chances to get back into the game, as Buffon was able to easily control Giuseppe Sculli and Del Nero headers.
Fabio Capello made changes after the break, giving Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic his Serie A debut. However, there was worrying news for Juve when Emerson limped off with a knee injury that he had suffered during the first half.
The former Ajax striker scored a wonderful individual goal on his debut, gathering Ruven Olivera's pass with his back to the goal, turning Di Biagio and firing at the far corner. However, it has to be said that Castellazzi's woeful error helped the ball into the net, as he appeared to have the angle covered.
Nedved's powerful free kick skimmed the woodwork, but Brescia put up precious little fight.
Brescia: Castellazzi; Adani, Di Biagio, Mareco (Mannini 63); Martinez, Almeyda, Milanetto (Guana 71), Domizzi; Sculli, Bachini; Caracciolo (Del Nero 24)
Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Blasi, Emerson (Tacchinardi 59), Nedved; Del Piero (Olivera 65), Trezeguet (Ibrahimovic 46)

Ajax 0 - 1 Juventus
Nedved 42 (J)
Amsterdam Arena
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pavel Nedved's spectacular goal has given Juventus a deserved and precious victory at Ajax's Amsterdam Arena.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not have asked for a more evocative atmosphere in which to make his first start in a Juventus shirt, as the £11m signing was back in Amsterdam to face his former club. He was partnered with Alessandro Del Piero, leaving David Trezeguet on the bench, while Mauro Camoranesi won the battle with Ruben Olivera for that right flank.
The Bianconeri stepped out in their new all-blue kit with Fabio Capello hoping to end his record of never having beaten this Dutch outift.
Ajax were thought to be a bit more toothless upfront after the departure of Ibrahimovic, but within 90 seconds Wesley Sonck had rattled the crossbar with a fierce effort from almost 20 metres. Camoranesi's error had given the ball away in midfield for this early scare.
Del Piero's relatively weak effort was easily dealt with and Ibrahimovic failed to make the most of a good scoring opportunity, but at the other end Gianluigi Buffon showed his confidence by chipping the ball around an approaching Rafael van der Vaart.
Pavel Nedved was furious when he fell under an Obodai challenge in the box and was booked for dissent. Almost all Juve's attacks were coming down the left from Gianluca Zambrotta.
With a rare move from the right, Nedved set up Camoranesi and the Italian international drove his effort wide of the near post. However, the former Verona player again gave the ball away in midfield and Buffon got down well to hold Mitea's half-volley.
Ibrahimovic and Zambrotta saw long-range shots charged down, then Nedved limped off after he had been accidentally kneed in the back by Obodai. The Czech international has a long history of back problems, but was able to carry on after treatment.
He recovered after a couple of minutes, because just before the break Nedved gave Juventus a deserved lead. Del Piero's chipped pass found Camoranesi, but realising he was closed down he set it up for Nedved's spectacular flick into the top corner with the outside of his right foot.
Buffon performed an extraordinary reaction save on both Sonck's back-heel and a close-range Pienaar attempt at the dawn of the second half, as the Ajax players saw their shots squeezed out from three yards.
Van der Vaart then just failed to get on the end of Mitea's sweeping low cross as the home side poured on the pressure, while Emerson nodded a Del Piero free kick off target.
Fabio Capello made two substitutions on the hour mark, introducing Gianluca Pessotto and Ruben Olivera for Alessandro Birindelli and a badly limping Nedved. At first Camoranesi was set to make way for Olivera, eliciting a fuming reaction from the Argentine-born winger, but Lippi changed his mind after seeing that Nedved was in some pain.
Buffon flew to pluck van der Vaart's splendid free kick out of the top corner, so Lippi tried to ease the pressure on their midfield by replacing Del Piero with Ghanaian Stephen Appiah.
Ibrahimovic finally had a chance on goal on 78 minutes when his glancing header from Camoranesi's cross was well saved by former teammate Stekelenburg.
The goalkeeper was then at full stretch to palm Olivera's powerful long-range strike out as it whipped towards the right-hand side of his net. Soon after their duel was played out again with the Uruguayan's free kick, this time at the opposite post.

The agent of Mauro Camoranesi has admitted the Juventus wing-back may seek a move away in January.
The Italy international has failed to find a place in new Juve coach Fabio Capello's early season plans and is considering his future.
Andrea Pastorello said: "If the coach will not play him regularly, we will consider other possibilities, either Italian or foreign.
"Up to now, there have been stories about a move, not concrete, to Inter."

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi refuses to give up on Udinese midfielder Marek Jankulovski.
Though delighted with his work in the summer market, Moggi's one regret is that he was unable to sign the Czech Republic international. He had terms agreed with the midfielder, but couldn't strike a deal with Udinese, who were determined to sell the player to CSKA Moscow.

Sampdoria 0 - 3 Juventus
Del Piero pen 19 (J), Ibrahimovic 69 (J), Trezeguet 86 (J)
Stadio Marassi
Juventus remain the only team in Serie A with a 100 per cent record thanks to this comfortable victory away to rock bottom Samp.
Sampdoria suffered two consecutive defeats to open the season and were forced to do without Aimo Diana, Cristiano Doni, Sergio Volpi, Angelo Pisano and Moris Carrozzieri.
The Bianconeri took the lead after 19 minutes when Alessandro Del Piero successfully converted a penalty kick, awarded for a dubious Cristiano Zanetti shirt tug on Emerson.
The crowd was fired up after this decision and cheered on the Blucerchiati when Francesco Flachi's powerful effort skimmed the woodwork. Every free kick turned into a scuffle.
At the dawn of the second half Gianluigi Buffon rushed off his line to punch the ball off Fabio Bazzani's head and the striker was able to carry on after treatment from this accidental collision.
Samp were putting on the pressure in the second half and Buffon performed a stunning close range save at the near post on Flachi's header.
However, a fine team move gave Juventus the points with 20 minutes to go. Mauro Camoranesi sent Pavel Nedved running and his pullback was swept into the far corner by substitute Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Trezeguet eventually made the scoreline 3-0 and ensured he has netted in every Serie A game so far this season with a well-taken volley.
If the Sampdoria players were angry with the referee before, they were apoplectic in the closing minute. The referee awarded a penalty for Fabio Cannavaro's challenge on Flachi, then changed his mind after consulting with his linesman.
Sampdoria: Antonioli; Pavan, Castellini, Falcone, Sacchetti; Kutuzov (Rossini 63), Edusei, Palombo, Zenoni; Flachi Bazzani
Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Emerson, Blasi, Nedved (Olivera 84); Del Piero (Ibrahimovic 62), Trezeguet

Siena 0 - 3 Juventus
Del Piero 53, 60 (J), Camoranesi 63 (J)
Stadio Franchi
Alessandro Del Piero has put his injury woe behind him with a well-taken brace to sink a determined Siena side.
Del Piero claimed he wouldn't start a match until he regained full fitness, but he partnered Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Stephen Appiah replaced the injured Manuele Blasi in midfield.
Siena have struggled to get goals this season and had a tough task to take on the Serie A leaders, but their Coach was an old hand at taking on Juventus. Gigi Simoni was in charge of Inter in 1998, when a controversial penalty effectively handed the title to the Turin giants.
The home side had the first real chance after two minutes, but Davide Nicola only scuffed his volley from a promising position. Fabio Pecchia's cross then almost reached Mattia Graffied for a tap-in at the back post, but he slid in a little too late.
Juve hit back, but efforts from Mauro Camoranesi and Ibrahimovic were easily dealt with, then the Swede pounced on Argilli's error only to balloon over the bar from seven yards.
Mauro Camoranesi's backpass put Lilian Thuram in a tricky situation when two Siena players converged on him, but the World Cup winner was able to clear.
The Tuscans were surprisingly aggressive and Gianluigi Buffon performed a difficult save on Chiesa's inswinging corner kick. On 35 minutes the goalkeeper was at full stretch for another one-handed reaction save as Graffiedi was clear from eight yards, even though the move was later halted for an offside position.
The Bianconeri were finding it hard to get shots on goal, but soon after Fabio Cannavaro nodded a corner kick on to the outside of the near post. Del Piero curled a free kick not far over the bar, while Ibrahimovic chested down a pass and thumped his volley off target.
Siena were forced into a substitution at half-time, as Alfonso Camorani replaced the injured Gianluca Falsini, moving Davide Nicola to that left-back role.
Cannavaro was giving the defence real problems on set-pieces and got another header at the back post. Then Del Piero ran on to Camoranesi's through ball and hit it straight at Marco Fortin with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Ibrahimovic was having a terrible game and wasted another golden opportunity on Stephen Appiah's cross, controlling it well before ballooning it over the bar.
However, Juve eventually broke through on 53 minutes. Fortin parried Ibrahimovic's diving header on a Jonathan Zebina cross, but he could do nothing on Del Piero's follow-up from five yards. It was an important confidence booster for the captain, in his first Serie A appearance since suffering an Achilles tendon problem three weeks ago.
Siena hit back and Chiesa's volley was charged down by Thuram and almost into the path of Graffiedi, while from the resulting corner Di Donato nodded wide.
Chiesa, Graffiedi and Camorani again saw two shots blocked by some desperate Juventus defending, as Cannavaro and Gianluca Zambrotta literally flung themselves at their opponents.
But they left themselves open to the counter-attack and Del Piero struck again with a control and volley on another Zebina cross from the right. His finish went through Fortin's legs and was perfectly placed.
Not content with scoring two, Del Piero then turned goal provider for Mauro Camoranesi. His powerful free kick was redirected into the top corner by the Italian international's glancing header to sink Siena.
Siena introduced creative midfielder Davide Chiumiento, who is a youth product on loan from Juventus. Marcelo Zalayeta also replaced Ibrahimovic so he can rest ahead of Thursday's clash with Roma.
The home side refused to give in and Chiesa put in a great pass for Chiumiento, who fired a weak effort into the grateful arms of Buffon.
Zebina was running wild out on the right and his cross was redirected towards his own net by Bruno Cirillo, but Fortin recovered for a good save.
Siena: Fortin; Cirillo, Portanova, Argilli, Falsini (Camorani 46); Nicola, Pecchia (Flo 74), Du Donato, Vergassola; Graffiedi (Chiumiento 65), Chiesa
Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Emerson, Appiah (Tacchinardi 85), Nedved; Ibrahimovic (Zalayeta 67), Del Piero (Kapo 78)

Juventus Makes Deal To Sell Name
10/26/2004 5:53:00 AM
Juventus will sell the naming rights of their new stadium to a sponsor.
The Serie A leaders plan to have a new stadium built in two years, and they have signed with Envision to find that sponsor. The contract also calls for a shirt deal. Envision also negotiated Arsenal's deal with Emirates Airlines.
The new stadium will be smaller in capacity than the Delle Alpi. But the plan is to have fans closer to the pitch, because the athletic track will be removed.

Out-of-favour Roma defender Christian Panucci has been linked with a move to Juventus following a bust-up with giallorossi coach Luigi Del Neri. Panucci was left out of the squad that drew 1-1 with Palermo on Sunday for what Del Neri termed "offensive and disgraceful behaviour."
However, the club declined to specify his precise offence.
"The incident happened in training and he showed a lack of respect that cannot be tolerated," said Del Neri. "Those who do not respect the rules will be punished and the club will take steps."
Panucci, who has won 48 caps for Italy, is considered a volatile personality, but has worked effectively with current Juve boss Fabio Capello at AC Milan, Real Madrid and Roma.
Capello is reportedly interested in defensive cover for the Italian leaders. Current first choice right-back Jonathan Zebina has enjoyed an excellent start to the season but is prone to inconsistency and basic errors, making Panucci an ideal January signing.
Juventus outcast Nicola Legrottaglie could move in the opposite direction, having shot to prominence under Del Neri's stewardship at Chievo in 2002
The incident came at the worst possible time for Roma, have suffered disciplinary problems all season, most notably with striker Antonio Cassano.
The men from the capital have leaked goals all season with key defenders Christian Chivu and Traianos Dellas out with long-term injuries.

MILAN, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Leaders Juventus moved five points clear at the top of Serie A as goals by Alessandro Del Piero and Marcelo Zalayeta gave them a 2-0 win over AS Roma on Thursday.
Unbeaten Juve, with seven wins in eight matches, have 22 points while AC Milan, who beat Atalanta 3-0 on Wednesday, are second on 17 points with Lecce a further two points behind in third place.
Juventus coach Fabio Capello left Roma in the close season to take over at the Delle Alpi and his old club look well below the standards he set during his five years in the capital.
Luigi Del Neri's Roma side are now 13 points behind Juventus and down in ninth place in the league table.
Both teams struggled in heavy rain but Del Piero fired the home side ahead in the 31st minute with a 20 metre drive after being set up by Mauro Camoranesi.
Juve's Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a header disallowed for offside in the 40th minute before Roma went close to an equaliser.
Francesco Totti fed Vincenzo Montella who surged into the area but his shot was superbly pushed over by Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, with a one-handed reflex save.
After the break Camoranesi wasted a good chance when he blasted high and wide from a promising position but while creating little Juve never looked in real trouble at the back.
Uruguayan Zalayeta replaced Del Piero in the 72nd minute and just two minutes later doubled the lead, bursting into the area and going past defender Matteo Ferrarri before driving home.
Juve's Brazilian former Roma midfielder Emerson was sent off in the 89th minute for a second yellow card.
Capello said that while conditions made an entertaining game almost impossible, he was pleased with the display.
'It was a good performance from both teams, taking into account the playing surface. Roma have a lot of quality up front and we maintained our concentration and were able to keep them down to just one real chance,' he said.
The Juventus coach praised Buffon for his save from Montella which ensured the leaders went in ahead at the break.
'He is the best goalkeeper in the world and that was a vital stop,' he said.

Juve continue their triumphant march towards the Scudetto, with only Milan keeping the pace of the league leaders. Meanwhile, Roberto 'X' Mancini's Inter drew again after squandering a two goal lead against Lecce.
Juventus maintained their impressive roll as the bianconeri defeated a Roma side which was no match for the bianconeri. Capello?s side is solid in all departments, and Del Piero seems to be back at his best once again. Apart from this, the former giallorosso coach also managed to get the best from players who were considered as inadequate reserves, such as Zalayeta. It is tough to imagine such a Juve side losing the Scudetto, but the road is still long.
Roma might have come out of Turin empty handed, however the side didn?t play badly and Delneri will surely be happy by his team?s performance, especially in the first half where they created problems to the Juve rearguard. The giallorossi currently occupy a low position in the standings, close to the relegation zone, but it won?t last long as Roma will surely climb back up in the positions that it deserves to be in.
Milan?s 3-0 win over Atalanta was maybe too big a margin for the nerazzurri who actually played quite well till they conceded the first goal. The rossoneri rested some key players for this match but they were still able to come up on top, proving they have a good enough squad to compete on all fronts this season and will definitely be fighting for the Scudetto till the very last match day.
Atalanta probably don?t deserve the last position they occupy as the young quality players they have and the football expressed so far has been worthy of a higher position. It is still early in the season so the Bergamaschi can still overturn their current status and achieve a more comfortable position in the standings.
Yet again Inter failed to win and Mancini should really start to worry now that the nerazzurri only managed two wins from their eight league games, with the remaining six being draws. Not too good for a team which is aiming to bring the Scudetto back on their shelves after a 15 year absence. Adriano scored again, but he seemed less brilliant than usual and even failed a very easy chance. Maybe it?s time for Mancio to rest him a bit.
On their path they met a determined and good Lecce side which will cause more than one problem to the big guns during this season. Zeman has created a spectacular machine which also has a lot of character and talented young players who will become household names in the future. Bojinov?s strike was absolutely fantastic and worthy contender for goal of the season so far.
Lazio finally won their first game at the Olimpico against a Messina side which slumped to its third consecutive defeat. Thanks to this win, the biancocelesti have moved up in the standings into a more comfortable position and regained some lost confidence from the previous disappointing weeks. Now they face Inter on Saturday and this will definitely be an important test to evaluate their progress.
Messina?s bubble seems to have finally burst as the Sicilian side slid to a mid-table position and will probably be fighting for relegation till the end of the season from now on. Their good early start might help them achieve safety early; however they will have to remain concentrated if they don?t want to have a swift return to Serie B.
Same story for Chievo, who after a good start to the season which took them to third place, have now lost some flair in their last two games and seem destined to a mid-table position for the remainder of the season. The flying donkeys have been defeated at home by a Sampdoria side that has been playing well in recent weeks, winning 4 out of their last 5 matches to climb up in the standings after a difficult start to the season.
Other results proved that this year?s relegation battle is going to be a hard fought one as many teams are more or less on the same level with no real favourites to be relegated and anyway it?s still to early to draw any real judgements on such a tight battle.

Alessandro Del Piero says he?s slowly getting back to his best after scoring again for Juventus last night.
The Italian netted in the 2-0 win over Roma just three days after scoring a brace away to Siena.
"I?m still not 100 per cent but things are going a lot better for me," he said after recently recovering from an Achilles? tendon problem.
"Scoring a goal is always a moment of great joy but winning thanks to your goal is even more special.
"I feel of real use to the team right now, especially as beating this Roma side was not that easy."
However, Del Piero was keen to point out that he wasn?t the only reason behind the victory.
"We are playing very well in defence, even if the fact that we are conceding so little is because we are so concentrated," he added.
"I think that a new Coach has arrived is also a factor. He?s brought with him new methods and we have a new stimulus."
Juventus have dropped just two points in eight games as they already have a five-point lead over Milan, 10 over Inter and 13 over Roma.
"We are not looking at the table," added the No 10. "Our aim is to just keep on improving with every game."

Juventus boss Fabio Capello has praised Roma but believes his side did enough to deserve their 2-0 win.
"It was a difficult game for us as I saw a good Roma side out there," stated the former Giallorossi boss.
"But we were more reactive than they were and limited them to just one chance in the first half.
"I?m satisfied because my boys remained concentrated throughout on a very tricky wet surface."
The capital outfit arguably had the better start to the game and that forced Capello to make a slight adjustment.
"We did take our time to settle as they caused us a few difficulties in the first 15 minutes," he added.
"But then I decided to place Nedved in a wider position so that he and Zambrotta could attack Sartor."
Juventus won the game thanks to goals from Alessandro Del Piero and Marcelo Zalayeta.
"Alex gave a generous performance and he?s improving all of the time. He has found his feet again and is scoring regularly," continued the tactician.
"Zalayeta is maturing as a player and I like him because he always goes for goal.
"But we must also thank Gigi Buffon," noted Capello. "He made some crucial saves. I?ve always said that he is the best in the world."
The only negative came with the late dismissal of Emerson. "We accept referee Pierluigi Collina?s decisions without any problems," he concluded.

By Paolo Menicucci
After restoring their five-point cushion at the top of Serie A by defeating AS Roma at the Stadio Delle Alpi on Thursday, Juventus FC again play host on Sunday hoping to continue their flying start when AC Chievo Verona visit Turin.
Tough opponents
Juve have won seven of their eight league matches, conceding just two goals in the process, but coach Fabio Capello is urging his players to be wary of the well-drilled Chievo side. "They are a difficult team to face," Capello said. "They are an organised team and we cannot make any mistake if we want to take all three points."
Emerson suspension
Midfield player Emerson is suspended for Juventus following a red card against former team Roma. Jonathan Zebina is also unavailable after suffering a thigh injury in the same match, so veterans Alessio Tacchinardi and Gianluca Pessotto could make rare starts.
Sampdoria test
Fifth-placed Chievo, who were unbeaten until Wednesday's 2-0 home defeat by UC Sampdoria, have never won a point against Juventus, but champions AC Milan will be hoping they do this time as Carlo Ancelotti's side try to close the gap on the leaders by beating Sampdoria in Genoa on Saturday. But it will not be easy - the Blucerchiati have won four of their past five games, and Milan could be without both Jaap Stam and Filippo Inzaghi.
Lazio reunion
FC Internazionale Milano coach Roberto Mancini faces S.S. Lazio for the first time since leaving the club last summer. It is also a reunion for Inter players Giuseppe Favalli, Juan Sebastián Verón, Dejan Stankovic, Christian Vieri and Sinisa Mihajlovic, who all had spells for the Rome club. Unbeaten Inter need to win after being held to their sixth draw of the season against in-form US Lecce on Wednesday.
Struggling sides
In Saturday's other game, Lecce could go above Milan into second by winning at ACF Fiorentina, while on Sunday, struggling Roma welcome Cagliari Calcio. In the battle of the bottom two sides, Parma FC will hope to add to their six points when at home to the only side without a Serie A victory this term, Atalanta BC.
'Derby dello Stretto'
Bologna FC and Brescia Calcio both travel to Tuscany to face AC Siena and AS Livorno Calcio respectively. Udinese Calcio meet US Città di Palermo, while FC Messina Peloro and Reggina Calcio play out the 'Derby dello Stretto'.

Following the excellent 2-0 win by Juventus over Roma at the Delle Alpi of Turin, Lilian Thuram felt very satisfied with his team?s display.
The French defender, best player on the field during the match against the giallorossi, also admitted that the bianconeri were a bit lucky in finding the goal in the right time.
?We were lucky to have found the goal in a good moment of the match. It?s ok that way, now we must look forward and concentrate on the next encounter.?
Juventus are now 5 points clear of Milan and 10 away from Inter, but Thuram does not limit the title chase to these three teams only.

An ecstatic Alessandro Del Piero, scorer of three goals in the last two games, was full of praise for his team following their latest win.
The bianconeri defeated Roma 2-0 on Thursday night at the Delle Alpi of Turin to move five points clear in the standings.
?Winning is always important, because when you finish what you build it is a nice injection of confidence.?
Pinturicchio also spoke about his recovery from the injury and his return to the best form.
?I must admit that the forced break due to my injury did really well to me, but apart from my physical recovery, I must say that our strength lies in the fact that we?re compact.?

The Bianconeri have an emergency in defence for Sunday?s match with Chievo, as both Gianluca Zambrotta and Jonathan Zebina are out.
The versatile Italian international is struggling with a bruised foot and will not even be fit to sit on the bench at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
As expected after he was stretchered off during the 2-0 win against Roma on Thursday evening, Zebina has suffered a minor thigh strain and is also a major doubt for next week?s Champions? League trip to Munich.
Capello had until now resisted rotating the squad, especially in a defence that has conceded just two League goals all season, but suddenly loses half his favoured back four.
?You all asked for the squad rotation system,? said the Coach as he started today?s press conference, ?and got your wish. After all, we couldn?t play the same men for the entire year.?
The Bianconeri have several options open to them, as Alessandro Birindelli and Gianluca Pessotto could take over as fullbacks, while Lilian Thuram could also push back into his old right-back position and bring ex-Chievo man Nicola Legrottaglie into central defence.
This isn?t Fabio Capello?s only problem, as Emerson is suspended following his red card against the Giallorossi, while Manuele Blasi is not 100 per cent fit.
Meanwhile, Pavel Nedved will start in midfield and is set to celebrate his 100th Serie A appearance in a Juventus jersey. The Czech international has so far picked up 138 League caps for Lazio and this will be his 238th in the Italian top flight.
Juventus squad:
1 Buffon, 2 Ferrara, 3 Tacchinardi, 4 Montero, 5 Tudor, 7 Pessotto, 9 Ibrahimovic, 10 Del Piero, 11 Nedved, 15 Birindelli, 16 Camoranesi, 18 Appiah, 20 Blasi, 21 Thuram, 22 Bonnefoi, 23 Kapo, 24 Olivera, 25 Zalayeta, 28 Cannavaro

Fresh from another convincing display and another 3 points, Juventus entertain Chievo at the Stadio Delle Alpi. The minnows from Verona are flying high in Serie A and will do their best to slow down the bianconeri machine.
BACKGROUND
No team in Europe looks as untouchable as Juventus right now. The ?Old Lady? has lost two points in Serie A this season and remains undefeated. In Europe Juventus have been equally impressive, winning all of their group matches in what looked to be a tricky draw. On Thursday evening Fabio Capello?s men faced their first real test in the league, facing his former club Roma. The match saw Roma old boys Zebina and Emerson facing their former employers in what was potentially a tricky tie for Juventus. The bianconeri were impressive once again, rising to the challenge to comfortably brush aside any Roman resistance. Del Piero was decisive once again after making a huge impact since returning from injury. With many critics suggesting the striker was past his best after a disappointing start to his Serie A campaign, Del Piero is beginning to prove them wrong. Another boos for Fabio Capello is the ever-improving Zalayeta who also scored in the win over Roma. With Juventus looking so solid in midfield and defence, there were fears that in Trezeguet?s absence the team would struggle for goals. Capello seems to be getting the most out of the three strikers he has available to him, with new boy Ibrahimovic improving every game.
It seems amazing that little Chievo remained unbeaten until midweek when they finally crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Sampdoria. The Chievo miracle is a well known phenomenon by now with the ?flying donkeys? having surprised everyone when they first entered Serie A under former manager Del Neri. During the summer Chievo lost their coach Del Neri, the man who was considered responsible for the miracle Chievo, and Italian international Simone Perrotta, so most of the experts gave them no chance of survival. Under new manager Beretta Chievo are once again mixing it with the big boys lying above teams like Inter and Roma in the standings.
FORM GUIDE
Juventus: WWWW
The Turin side are currently on an impressive run that has seen them comfortably work their way up to the top of Serie A. There is currently no better side in the league and the ?Old Lady? will be in confident mood against Chievo.
Chievo: WWDL
Chievo will look to improve on their last two results but will be hard pressed to find a win at the Stadio Delle Alpi. Manager Beretta has stated that survival is their only goal this season, but if the team continues in such good form anything is possible.
TEAM NEWS
Juventus:
Emerson misses out after his suspension and is replaced by Tacchinardi, while Zebina is out injured. The former Roma duo apart, Juventus are more or less at full strength. After his return to goal scoring form recently, Del Piero looks certain to partner Ibrahimovic up front. Zalayeta?s good form will pose a difficult selection problem for Capello who will probably start the Uruguayan from the bench.
Chievo:
The flying donkeys are at full strength with the exception Luciano. Amauri drops to the bench and will be replaced by Pellissier. Former Juve midfielder Brighi will start in the centre against his former club.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Juventus:
Tacchinardi has watched from the sidelines after Emerson?s arrival from Roma. The former Italian international has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks and will want to impress his new manager and remind the fans what they are missing. Emerson?s suspension gives him the perfect chance to do this.
Chievo:
Brighi will want to show Juventus what he is capable of after being offloaded by the club in the summer. The starlet has recently discovered his best form after failing to live up to his potential in recent seasons.
PROBABLE STARTING XIs
Juventus (4-4-2)
Buffon - Pessotto, Thuram, F.Cannavaro, Zambrotta - Camoranesi, Tacchinardi, Appiah, Nedved - Del Piero, Ibrahimovic
Chievo (4-4-2)
Marchegiani - Moro, Mandelli, D?Anna, Malagò - Semioli, Brighi, Baronio, Franceschini - Cossato, Pellissier.
PREDICTION
Juventus should easily cope with Chievo despite their impressive early season form.

Reggina 2 - 1 Juventus
Colucci 13 (R), Ibrahimovic 14 (J), Zamboni 26 (R)
Stadio Granillo
Juventus had two goals disallowed and a clear penalty denied as they lose their unbeaten record to relegation strugglers Reggina.
Fabio Capello rotated the squad once again, as Alessandro Del Piero was benched in favour of Marcelo Zalayeta, while Gianluca Pessotto replaced the injured Jonathan Zebina. The decision to rest Del Piero might also have been affected by the appalling state of the Stadio Granillo pitch.
Reggina were forced to do without the suspended Mozart, as the midfielder failed a routine drugs test for a substance the club claims was contained within an anti-mosquito bite cream. Salvatore Soviero made his Serie A debut in goal, making his comeback after a five-month ban for punching members of the Messina bench during their Second Division encounter with Venezia.
Juve quickly took control and Gianluca Zambrotta's cross-cum-shot whistled across the face of goal. Zlatan Ibrahimovic also had a good chance, but the visitors were in for a shock.
After just 12 minutes Reggina took the lead with an extraordinarily fortunate goal. Fabio Cannavaro cleared the ball straight at Giuseppe Colucci inside the area and it ricocheted off his hip to loop over a stranded Buffon. It was the first goal Juventus have conceded on their travels this season.
However, the lead didn't last any longer than 90 seconds, as a terrible defensive error from Gaetano De Rosa allowed Ibrahimovic to steal the ball and thump a low drive into the near corner.
The Swede was particularly lively and battled his way through two defenders before a third managed to close him down on the edge of the six-yard box.
Soviero smothered Zalayeta's shot, but the Amaranto were again lucky to restore their lead on 25 minutes. A powerful razor-sharp Marco Zamboni free kick took a slight deflection off Manuele Blasi to push the ball past Buffon. Zamboni is a former Juventus player and made his Serie A debut with this club in 1997.
It was an action-packed first half, as Emerson's delightful lob floated just over the crossbar.
Reggina felt Lady Luck was behind them and Emiliano Bonazzoli's long-range strike was fingertipped round the post by Buffon. Moments later Zamboni's cross beat everyone, including Bonazzoli, who only needed to stretch to put it in.
At the other end Zambrotta's floated cross had a similar effect, with panicked Reggina defenders able to clear from Mauro Camoranesi at the back post.
There was controversy on 37 minutes, as Jacopo Balestri clearly handled in the box, but the move continued and Soviero performed a fine save on Emerson's strike from the edge of the area.
The Amaranto certainly did not batten down the hatches and Cannavaro required an acrobatic header to prevent Bonazzoli latching on to Balestri's cross.
Bonazzoli and Manuele Blasi had long range efforts smothered as the shots kept raining in from all angles at both ends of the pitch.
It was definitely not Juve's night, as at the start of the second half Zalayeta's powerful header on a Zambrotta cross thumped the outside of the post with Soviero static.
Camoranesi's effort was deflected off De Rosa, again possibly with an arm, and on the resulting corner Soviero smothered Cannavaro's header.
Ibrahimovic thought he had drawn level again on the hour mark, but the referee had already blown the whistle earlier for an elbow on Ivan Franceschini inside the box. Contact was made, but how intentional was unclear.
Soviero was at full stretch to turn an Ibrahimovic cross-shot round the post as the siege intensified. Fabio Capello needed to spice them up and threw on Alex Del Piero and Ruben Olivera for Zalayeta and Pessotto, moving Juventus to a three-man defence.
There was bad news for the Amaranto, as Giuseppe Colucci hacked down Olivera for his second bookable offence, so the home side had to play the remaining 17 minutes in ten men. It was an avoidable incident, as his first yellow card was for removing his jersey in the goal celebrations.
Olivera saw Soviero off his line and thumped an effort just wide from almost 30 metres out, then Del Piero's scuffed half-volley bobbled past the post.
The Reggina goalkeeper punched a free kick off the head of Ibrahimovic, but the home side also had a good chance when Buffon blocked Davide Dionigi's snapshot.
There was panic in the Amaranto box during stoppages when Soviero twice fumbled a harmless cross, but managed to get it back under control before Ibrahimovic could pounce.
There was one more incident to go, as in the final minute of stoppages Juventus seemed to draw level. Substitute Olivier Kapo sprung the offside trap and chested down the ball before rifling it into the far corner, but after several tense moments of consultation with the linesman, the goal was disallowed for a handling offence. However, replays show that Olivera got his head to the cross, putting both Kapo and Ibrahimovic into an offside position, so the handling offence was irrelevant.

Fabio Capello and Walter Mazzarri refused to put Juve?s defeat down to some controversial refereeing decisions.
?It was a strange game with essentially two own goals, as both took massive deflections,? said the Bianconeri boss after they lost 2-1 at Reggina. ?We attacked and pushed for 90 minutes, but the ball wouldn?t go in. We accept the defeat and must move on, continuing to work hard.?
Juventus saw two goals disallowed and a clear penalty denied at the Stadio Granillo, but Capello was gracious in defeat.
?Unfortunately, when you concede goals like this it?s a clear sign that luck isn?t on your side. I always accept refereeing errors and only human, but that penalty was pretty clear for everyone to see. It was incredibly evident. Nonetheless, it?s a bit pointless to recriminate and complain now that the decision has been made.?
Whatever the result of tomorrow?s clash between Milan and Roma, Juventus will hold on to the leadership for this week, but the gap could be cut to just two points.
?I think tonight we proved once more than we are a great side,? insisted Capello, ?as we played well, but those two strange goals gave us an undeserved defeat. Our compliments go to Reggina for taking full advantage.?
Walter Mazzarri was under real pressure going into this game, as the Amaranto were in penultimate place, so this victory was unexpected to say the least.
?I say that apart from today?s performance, we have been repaid for all the mistakes we made and the points we lost along the way this season,? said the Coach.
?It?s clear that a side like Reggina needs a lot of luck to beat Juventus, and we certainly had that this evening. We tried putting Juve under pressure early on, but their strength forced us to sit back a bit more. It was not a tactical choice. While we had all eleven men on the field, we did play well and had chances to increase our tally, so I could say it?s not a scandal we got the three points.?
Mazzarri also tried not to comment on the refereeing decisions that affected the 2-1 result.
?I have never commented on television replays before, even when they were errors against us, so I?m not going to start now. In all honesty, even if there was a mistake it is a drop in the ocean compared to the problems referees have caused us this season.?

Juve Blame Misfortune For Reggio Loss
11/6/2004 11:47:00 PM
Juventus coach Fabio Capello was not disappointed with his players following the Bianconeri's first loss of the season.
?I saw a good Juve on the pitch, but football is like this. We attacked throughout the entire match, but lost. Too bad, because we suffered two own-goals, luck was not on our side this evening,? he said.
?But I saw a great team. It was not a lucky night, there was also a penalty for us in the first half, but I don?t like to comment on the referee?s decisions,? he added.
Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi was also diplomatic on the referee?s alleged errors.
?There was a penalty for us, and two disallowed goals. But also referees can make mistakes. We were unlucky,? he said.

Lecce 0 - 1 Juventus
Del Piero 14 (J)
Stadio Via del Mare
Alessandro Del Piero scored the decider against his old enemy Zdenek Zeman in a game ruled by the appalling conditions.
These are the two most prolific teams in the top flight, though the leaders were forced to do without the suspended Pavel Nedved. There was extra spice to this tie, as Zdenek Zeman reiterated the controversial claims he made six years ago that players such as Alessandro Del Piero were "victims" of Juventus.
There were fears this game wouldn't go ahead at all after heavy rainfall flooded the Stadio Via del Mare, but the teams tried to carry on in difficult conditions.
Juve should have taken the lead after two minutes, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic ran on to a quickly taken Ruben Olivera free kick and somehow blazed it wide of an open goal. It was also a lucky escape for the referee, as the Swede was clearly offside when the kick was taken.
After all the lead-up to this game, it seemed fitting that Alessandro Del Piero should open the scoring. Much of the credit goes to Ibrahimovic, who chested down a long Emerson ball forward and pulled it back for the captain to thump into the top corner under pressure from defenders.
Zeman's men piled on the pressure and Gianluigi Buffon was forced into a fantastic reaction save to push Sasa Bjelanovic's header out from Cristian Ledesma's corner.
Gianluca Pessotto's strike was parried into the path of Ibrahimovic, who slipped at the crucial moment and turned the loose ball wide.
There was a frightening moment for Buffon when Ledesma's angled drive took a bounce and squirmed out of his grasp, but the goalkeeper was able to recover.
In the second half Fabio Cannavaro's challenge proved decisive on Sam Dalla Bona, then Sicignano stopped Olivera scoring for the second game running.
The pitch would inevitably take its toll and scorer Del Piero limped off with a muscular problem.
Juve were nonetheless still in control and went close to doubling their lead when Ibrahimovic combined with substitute Olivier Kapo, but Sicignano rushed off his line to close him down.
Mauro Camoranesi wasted a golden opportunity when he tried to dribbled round Ledesma inside the box, but probably should have blasted it.
Lecce could have drawn level with Bojinov's solo effort down the left, but he could only shake the side-netting.
In the closing moments it turned into a siege and Buffon flew to tip Bjelanovic's effort over the bar, while the final five minutes were played entirely in Juve's goalmouth.

Here goes the Goal.com Serie A team of the week for the twelfth round of matches.
Tactical Formation: 3-4-3
Goalkeeper
Soviero Reggina?s best player against AS Roma. The second half save he produced to deny Francesco Totti with the equalizer was amazing.
Defenders
Argilli The Siena defender did well both defensively and offensively against AC Milan. His goal was just one of the many good things he featured in-front of the San Siro crowd.
Cannavaro Lecce?s super-offense could do almost nothing against this born-again football player.
Ujfalusi Even though he is not playing in his favourite position, Fiorentina's Czech international is demonstrating to be a true professional.
Midfielders
Morfeo The Parma creative extended his magic moment, even though he started off the bench.
Emerson The Brazlian 'Puma' confirmed to be the true maestro of the Juventus orchestra with a fantastic performance on the muddy Lecce pitch.
Corini It is no coincidence the veteran midfielder is Palermo?s skipper. In the day he returned to top form, the team notched its first win in over a month.
Mesto Milan are closely tracking him as they believe he is the ?next Cafu?.
Forwards
Shevchenko The Ballon D?Or looks always more in the Rossonero striker?s hands. Milan just can?t do without him.
Langella His speed and ability made Inter?s slow defense go crazy
Riganò After a long injury spell he returned to action and took no time scoring his first Serie A goal. Fiorentina will be even stronger now that ?Riga? is back.
Coach
Capello Juventus? domination continues to expand as the weeks go by, and the former Roma boss deserves most of the credit for this.

Marcelo Zalayeta repaid the faith shown in him by coach Fabio Capello by firing home the winner for Juventus, as Ajax's slim hopes of saving their Champions League campaign were shattered.
Zalayeta marked his first start in the Champions League this season by taking advantage of a defensive error to hit the winner early on in Turin, to make it five 1-0 wins from five Group C games for the Serie A leaders.
Ajax are now six points behind the Group's second-placed team Bayern Munich - who hammered Maccabi Tel-Aviv 5-1 on Tuesday night - with only one game remaining.
It was a scrappy opening to the game with Ajax unable to hang on to the ball and Juventus, having already qualified for the knockout stages, were in no real rush to put their opponents under pressure.
With 14 minutes on the clock the opening goal arrived though, when Maxwell - who in recent weeks has been a reported transfer target of Juventus - took far too long to clear his lines.
Mauro Camoranesi seized possession off the Ajax player, and squared the ball to Zalayeta, who stroked the ball into the net via the upright with a right-footed shot from 12 yards.
Moments later Maxwell was again caught in possession but this time when Zalayeta released Pavel Nedved, Zdenek Grygera was able to scramble the ball to safety.
Ajax did start to impose themselves on the game and Rafael van der Vaart forced Gianluigi Buffon into a flying save to keep out his curling right-footed free-kick.
However chances were sparse at both ends of the pitch, and although Juve were in the lead, the goal was their only effort on target during the first 45 minutes.
Early in the second half Ajax wasted a rare opportunity when Nourdin Boukhari cleverly released Ryan Babel, but the 17-year-old snatched at his effort, blazing his shot over the crossbar.
Visiting coach Ronald Koeman tried to shake things up by introducing Romanian striker Nicolae Mitea as a replacement for Boukhari.
However the home side continued to look the more dangerous, and they wasted a glorious chance to put the game out of Ajax's reach when Emerson's goalbound drive was knocked off the line by Hatem Trabelsi.
Seconds later former Ajax striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who led the Juventus attacking line with authority all evening, was denied by a decent save by goalkeeper Hans Vonk.
Emerson again went close when he cut in from the left flank and fired just wide of the near post, but at the other end a lofted cross from Wesley Sneijder was headed just wide of the mark by Grygera, and then Mitea nodded wide.
Deep into stoppage time substitute Ruben Olivera curled a free-kick inches wide of the target for Juventus, but by then Ajax's fate had already been sealed.

Juventus 1 - 0 Ajax
Zalayeta 15 (J)
Stadio delle Alpi (6,865)
Marcelo Zalayeta ensured Juve's fifth consecutive 1-0 victory in Europe and put an end to Ajax's hopes.
The Bianconeri were already qualified for the next stage going into this game, so Fabio Capello made several changes with Paolo Montero and Alessio Tacchinardi making rare appearances and Alessandro Del Piero left in the stands. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was not rested, so he could face the teammates he left in the summer.
There have been strong reports this week that Juve are tracking Ajax player Maxwell, but it was the Brazilian whose error allowed Mauro Camoranesi to roll the ball across for Marcelo Zalayeta to side-foot home the opener after 15 minutes.
Turin really wasn't doing Maxwell any favours, as another terrible defensive error gave Pavel Nedved the chance to set up Zalayeta, but the Uruguayan slipped at the crucial moment.
Ajax were passing the ball around in midfield, but rarely managed to get anywhere near Gianluigi Buffon's area. Their first attempt was a Rosales shot after 26 minutes that was charged down around twelve yards from goal.
However, moments later Buffon flew to palm out a splendid Rafael van der Vaart free kick from the edge of the box. It was a brilliant one-handed save from the 'keeper who is yet to concede in the Champions' League proper this season.
Montero has barely featured this season, but got himself booked for reacting angrily to a foul from van der Vaart.
Nedved bravely won two midfield challenges to set off a counter-attack and Ibrahimovic blasted the final shot over the bar from a promising position.
Juventus continued to have the better of the game after the restart with Emerson just failing to get on the end of Nedved's taut cross.
17-year-old Ryan Babel wasted a golden opportunity for Ajax on the counter-attack and drilled a low drive wide, but Emerson was only prevented from doubling the home side's lead by a Hatem Trabelsi goalline clearance. Nedved's effort had been charged down into the path of the Brazilian and some desperate defending kept his header out of Vonk's net.
Camoranesi was booked and will miss the final Group C game against Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
Ibrahimovic's stab was easily saved and Zdenek Grygera nodded wide for the Dutch Champions, but this result - and Bayern Munich's rout in Tel-Aviv - puts an end to Ajax's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage.
Juventus: Buffon: Birindelli (Cannavaro 85), Thuram, Montero, Zambrotta; Camoranesi (Olivera 70), Emerson, Tacchinardi, Nedved; Zalayeta, Ibrahimovic (Kapo 78)
Ajax: Vonk; Trabelsi, Grygera, Escudè, Maxwell; De Jong (Sneijder 70), Galasek, van der Vaart, Boukhari (Mitea 59); Rosales, Babel (Anastasiou 79)

Fabio Capello has praised his players for beating Ajax despite being already qualified, but insists records don’t interest him.
“It’s best to lose a few along the way and then get to the Final,” smiled the Juventus boss. “I was glad to see the team play with the same determination and concentration as always.”
The Bianconeri were already sure of their spot in the knockout stage before this result, but the fifth consecutive 1-0 victory matches their club record in the European Cup. Marcelo Zalayeta scored the winner and has filled in admirably for the injured David Trezeguet.
“Zalayeta has matured as a player and probably feels more faith in him this year, which is why he’s giving his best for the club. I put out a team I felt was able to play on level terms with and beat Ajax. Paolo Montero and Alessio Tacchinardi can be relied upon and everyone gave me a positive response.”
There are reports that the Turin club will make massive changes during the January window, but Capello laughed off this speculation.
“We have no intention of selling Alessandro Birindelli or Tacchinardi. They are not on the transfer market.”
The Serie A leaders can now look forward to Sunday’s Scudetto showdown with Inter, but Capello had bad news for the supporters.
“We can already say that Alessandro Del Piero will not be ready to play against Inter on Sunday. He is undergoing treatment and will be back next week.”
Gianluigi Buffon performed another decisive save tonight to ensure he is yet to concede a single goal in the competition proper this season.
“It’s a record that also amazes me, but keeping clean sheets increases confidence and helps us to play better in the future, especially after our problems at the back last season,” noted the goalkeeper. “Here’s hoping we can continue along this path right the way to the Final.”
Zalayeta bagged another decisive goal and is becoming a key player in the absence of Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero.
“When I went out on loan in Spain it helped me a great deal,” said the Uruguayan. “Once you know the club has faith in you and your own confidence is boosted, everything becomes simpler. Thankfully there is a team mentality here at Juve and everyone chips in to help out when another player is injured.”
Ajax man Maxwell was reported to be a transfer target for Juve, but embarrassed himself with the error that allowed Zalayeta to score.
“I just received the ball and was trying to control, but never expected Camoranesi to come up behind me so quickly,” revealed the Brazilian. “There are lots of people talking about transfers, but although it’s true I am good friends with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he plays for Juventus and I play for Ajax. Of course I’d like to play in Italy and all players would consider Juventus a step up in their career, but everything has a right time.”

The Bianconeri travel to Bologna’s Dall’Ara stadium having maintained their unbeaten run in Europe this week. With Bologna scrapping for points, the Turin giants will need to keep their concentration if they are to keep up the pace at the top.
BACKGROUND
Juventus have not had it all their own way in recent weeks. After a poor first half against Lazio, Capello’s men found themselves behind with Ibrahimovic finally rescuing them with a late winner. In Europe the Bianconeri were not quite at their best, drawing 1-1 with Maccabi Tel Aviv but doing enough to remain unbeaten. Capello’s men continue to brush past all before them in Serie A as the likes of AC Milan lag behind. Despite their good results, Juventus will need to keep focussed against a determined Bologna, as they have recently shown signs of tiring a little.
Capello has restored a winning mentality to Juventus, with every player ready to scrap and fight for the good of the team. Whilst no single match decides a championship, it is the games against sides such as Bologna that must be won. Whilst the Bianconeri are not the most entertaining team around, their ability to get the necessary results is what makes them so special this season.
Bologna are struggling again in Serie A after recovering last year from a similar start. Carlo Mazzone needs his current crop of players to repeat last year’s turn around and begin picking up results as quickly as possible. Rossoblu fans have had little to cheer about, looking nervously down at the three teams below them in the table.
With the strength of the squad available to Mazzone, the Rossoblu are most definitely underachieving in the league. Despite good performances, Bologna have failed to score enough goal to win matches, netting only 13 times so far. Mazzone will be desperate for is team to find the right result on Sunday as the Rossoblu host an exceptional Juventus side.
FORM GUIDE:
Bologna (all competitions – oldest result first): DDLLDL
Mazzone needs his big players to perform if Bologna are to avoid another defeat against Juve. Nothing less than maximum effort from every player will do on Sunday.
Juventus (all competitions – oldest result first): WLWDWD
Despite loosing to Atalanta in the Coppa Italia, and drawing with Maccabi in the Champions League, Juventus continue to churn out wins in Serie A. Capello’s boys look unstoppable.
TEAM NEWS:
Bologna
Carlo Nervo and Igli Tare miss the match through injury, whilst Nastase and Petruzzi are suspended.
Juventus
After resting some key players in midweek, Capello can call upon almost all of his squad for the trip to Bologna. Only Oliivera joins Trezeguet on the treatment table.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Bologna
Frenchman Meghni has been dubbed the “next Zidane” by critics after impressing in Serie A. The playmaker will need to be at his skilful best if his side are to penetrate Juventus’ defence.
Juventus
Juve’s scoring Swede came to the rescue last weekend after the lacklustre Bianconeri fell behind to Lazio. Ibrahimovic is acclimatizing to his surroundings in Italy and is quickly becoming one of the league’s most impressive strikers. The former Ajax man’s skill and raw strength are a problem for any defence.
PROBABLE STARTING Xis:
Bologna:
Pagliuca , Daino, Juarez, Gamberini, Sussi, Zagorakis, Colucci, Amoroso, Bellucci, Meghni, Cipriani.
Juventus:
Buffon, Zebian, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Camoranesi, Emerson, Blasi, Nedved, Ibrahimovic, Del Piero,
PREDICTION:
Juventus should win the game as misfiring Bologna should pose little threat to their watertight defence.

In the biggest game of the season so far, Serie A leaders Juventus host second placed Milan in what promises to be an exciting game. The Stadio Delle Alpi will be full to capacity as Juve look to further distance themselves from a Milan side in hot pursuit of the leaders. If the Bianconeri win on Saturday it will put a massive seven points between the sides.
BACKGROUND
AC Milan visit Juventus in great form and good spirits following an impressive run of performances in Serie A. After a minor blip at the beginning of the season Ancelotti’s men have put pressure on Juventus by keeping them firmly within their grasp. Serie A already looks like a two horse race with six points between Milan and third placed Udinese. If Milan allow the Bianconeri victory then it will make winning the Scudetto more complicated, whilst a victory would blow the championship wide open. Milan certainly have a squad of players capable of beating any team around, with European Player of the Year Andriy Shevchenko amongst their ranks.
Milan’s form has become increasingly more impressive as the season has gone on, culminating in their stunning 6-0 victory over Fiorentina last weekend. Milan were clearly not playing to their potential at the start of the season and could have found themselves further from Juventus if not for Andriy Shevchenko’s goals. The Ukrainian has been in spectacular form this season and the accolade of European Player of the Year is well deserved. Brazilian midfielder Kaka has recently recovered the form that saw him take Serie A by storm last season to add to Milan’s potency in attack. With Pippo Inzaghi’s well-documented injury problems Crespo was seen as the perfect alternative by Ancelotti and the Argentinean is finally living up to his reputation. In their destruction of Fiorentina, the trio of Shevchenko, Kaka and Crespo showed how effective they can be when fielded together and will pose a major threat to Juventus’ impressive defensive record.
Whilst continuing to pick up vital victories in the league, Juventus have looked shaky in recent games. Last week’s controversial last gasp winner from Nedved gave the Bianconeri a hard fought victory against Bologna in a match they could easily have lost. Bianconeri coach Fabio Capello repeatedly stated that his players are starting to tire and will be looking forward to the Christmas break. Despite a recent slump in performances, Juventus have been consistently impressive this season, getting results regardless of the performance.
The Bianconeri have been leading the way throughout the campaign thanks to Fabio Capello’s intelligent tactics and hard-working squad, but newfound defensive strength is they factor in their success. The acquisition of Fabio Cannavaro from Inter has helped turn Juve’s defence into the most miserly unit in Italy, whilst Emerson in midfield has ensured the team gives little possession away. However, Alessandro Del Piero is still looking for his best form after a series of injury setbacks, whilst his partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still in its infancy. Despite this minor setback, Juventus have so far managed to score the goals needed to see them at the top of the league.
Last season Juve struggled in games against the Rossoneri. This tie ended 3-1 to the Milan side with Shevchenko and a Clarence Seedorf double putting the tie beyond Juve. It was their first win in Turin since 1999 and ended a run of four consecutive defeats at the Delle Alpi. Given both sides impressive form, the result looks extremely difficult to predict.
FORM GUIDE
Juventus (all competitions – oldest result first): WWDWDW
Drawing away to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League meant that Juve finished top of their group having conceded just one goal in the process and remaining unbeaten. Capello’s men have continued to grind out important victories regardless of their performance.
Milan (all competitions – oldest result first): WWWWDW
AC Milan are also in great form at the moment and will be in confident mood following their humiliating destruction of Fiorentina last weekend. Ancelotti’s men face Juventus at the perfect time as they look to carry on with their impressive run.
TEAM NEWS
Juventus:
David Trezeguet is still recovering from a shoulder operation and is some way off a return whilst Ruben Olivera is also out of the match. Aside from these players, Capello has a full squad of players to pick from and will most probably pick the same side that narrowly defeated Bologna last weekend.
Milan:
Carlo Ancelotti must do without Stam, Inzaghi, Simic, Tomasson and Abiati for this match. Despite such a lengthy injury list, the Milan coach is still able to field an extremely impressive side with the trio of Shevchenko, Crespo and Kaka looking to continue their hot streak.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Juventus:
This will be the biggest game in a Juventus shirt for Ibrahimovic so far. The Swede has been impressive since his surprise move from Ajax in the summer and will be a major threat to Milan. Strong and powerful, the striker is also blessed with great technical ability and can cause problems for any defence. Whilst the Swedish international is still adapting to life in Serie A, it is a matter of time before he develops into one of the best in the world.
AC Milan:
Andriy Shevchenko has scored some important goals against the Bianconeri during his time with Milan and will be in confident mood on Saturday. The Ukrainian superstar has been on top of his game this season scoring consistently and helping Milan to victory during their shaky patches. After his European Player of the Year award the striker will be extremely confident of hurting Juventus.
PROBABLE STARTING XIs
Juventus:
Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Emerson, Blasi, Nedved; Ibrahimovic, Del Piero
AC Milan:
Dida, Cafu, Nesta, Maldini, Kaladze, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka, Crespo, Shevchenko
PREDICTION
With passions running high, this game will be extremely difficult to call. Juventus go into he tie with less pressure, knowing that they will remain top regardless of the outcome. Milan need to secure a victory in order to close the gap and will test Juve’s defence to the limit. A draw is the most probable outcome, which would suit Juventus.
Juventus 2-2 AC Milan

Juventus 0 - 0 Milan
Stadio Delle Alpi
Milan dominated the Scudetto showdown in Turin, but remain four points adrift as the woodwork kept out Andriy Shevchenko.
Games don't come much bigger than this, as the two-horse Scudetto race comes to a head at the Stadio Delle Alpi. Milan had the chance to cut the gap to just one point going into the Christmas break or find themselves seven points adrift.
The Rossoneri have only won one of their last nine pre-Christmas games, but they were on better form going into the tie thanks to three consecutive wins, including last week's 6-0 drubbing of Fiorentina. Pavel Nedved's late goal scraped a 1-0 victory for Juve at Bologna to keep them four points clear.
Paolo Maldini suffered a slight calf problem during the warm-up and had to give way to 38-year-old Alessandro Costacurta. Losing their captain was a heavy blow, but up until this match Milan had not conceded a single goal this season with Costacurta on the bench.
The Stadio Delle Alpi was sold out and witnessed the meeting of the outgoing European Player of the Year Pavel Nedved and the newly crowned Balon d'Or winner Andriy Shevchenko. Both these Coaches were facing their former clubs and Fabio Capello had only ever beaten Ancelotti twice going into the game.
Milan had the first real scoring opportunity after just three minutes. Shevchenko rolled the ball across the face of goal and Hernan Crespo just failed to get on the end of it from six yards. The ex-Chelsea man complained and replays show Jonathan Zebina did hold him back by his shoulder.
Moments later Zebina nearly scored an own goal as he haphazardly deflected a Clarence Seedorf cross just wide of the woodwork.
There were more complaints when Zebina seemed to drag Kakha Kaladze down by his neck as a free kick was floated in, but once again the referee waved play on.
Juventus were also angry with the officials when a Zlatan Ibrahimovic cross was charged down by Costacurta's arm outside the box, but Bertini judged it to be too close for the defender to get out of the way.
Shevchenko went closer than anyone after 17 minutes when his fierce right-foot snapshot from all of 25 metres beat Gianluigi Buffon and slammed the outside of the post.
Milan were beginning to dominate and Shevchenko ran on to Kaka's through ball, but Lilian Thuram dived in for a crucial challenge to prevent Crespo getting an easy tap-in.
The Bianconeri were uncharacteristically a defensive shambles on a corner kick, Buffon's punch ineffective with Kaladze, Crespo and Kaka unable to make the most of it.
Soon after Alessandro Del Piero's effort was charged down, then Buffon could only parry a powerful Crespo strike out for a corner as the pace picked up. A promising counter-attack was started by Pirlo and his cross was too long for Crespo at the back post.
Buffon smothered Seedorf's rising drive from eight yards, then Gianluca Zambrotta ran the entire length of the pitch and put in a cross for Ibrahimovic, but Dida intercepted. Zambrotta got forward again with a snapshot just about held by the Brazilian goalkeeper.
Fabio Cannavaro and Thuram required brilliant tackles to prevent Shevchenko getting into a one-on-one with Buffon, but in first half stoppages the goalkeeper had his palms stung by Crespo at the near post.
Capello had to do something and he opted to take off disappointing captain Del Piero for Marcelo Zalayeta.
Milan were still having the better of the play with Juventus giving the ball away surprisingly easily. Shevchenko was halted for a debatable offside flag as he prepared to face Buffon, then the Ukrainian's effort was charged down by Thuram.
Juve were a little less under pressure, but couldn't break through the Milan rearguard and Nedved's header was intercepted by Marcos Cafu. Kaladze was stretchered off with a bruised knee and made way for Giuseppe Pancaro.
The Rossoneri were livid on 66 minutes when Kaka robbed Thuram and was ready to run at the Juve defence with three against two, but the referee stopped play for a Milan free kick instead of letting play continue and the chance went begging. Thuram was booked for that challenge and will miss the trip to his old club Parma.
Alessio Tacchinardi replaced Manuele Blasi and the visitors continued to hold the initiative, even if the Juve defence was better placed in this second half.
Nedved had a great chance to give the Bianconeri the victory when he turned and left both defenders for dead, but the ball bounced awkwardly and he fired over the bar.
There was chaos in the Milan area four minutes from time when Nedved and Ibrahimovic failed to make the most of two defensive errors. From the resulting corner kick Cannavaro drilled a powerful half-volley over the bar.
In the final minute Shevchenko skipped past defenders and passed for Andrea Pirlo, but the midfielder's angled drive only shaved the far post with Buffon already beaten.
Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Emerson, Blasi (Tacchinardi 80), Nedved; Ibrahimovic, Del Piero (Zalayeta 46)
Milan: Dida; Cafu, Nesta, Costacurta, Kaladze (Pancaro 63); Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf; Kakà; Shevchenko, Crespo

After months of speculation linking Marek Jankulovski with a move to Juventus, it appears that Milan may just have beaten the Bianconeri to his signature.
Reports in Italy today suggest that the Rossoneri have agreed a £6.5 million deal with Udinese for the Czech star.
Jankulovski would remain at Udinese until the end of the season as they bid to reach the Champions League.

Milan have allegedly beaten Juventus in the race to sign Marek Jankulovksi from Udinese.
Reports in the peninsula on Tuesday suggest that a deal has already been agreed between the two clubs.
The champions will sign the player in January, for around £6.5m, but allow him to remain with the Bianconeri until the summer.
That agreement suits the Friuli outfit who would like to keep the Czech ace in a bid to qualify for the Champions’ League.
Milan have decided to target Jankulovski, who was also linked with Inter, given that Serginho is likely to leave at the end of the season.
Should Jankulovski join Milan then that could in turn be bad news for newly promoted Fiorentina.
That is because Juventus would then be expected to recall the highly-rated Giorgio Chiellini.
The left-back, who was recently handed a full international cap, is currently on loan with the Viola from the Turin giants.
The Tuscan club were keen to keep him for at least another season but that may now not occur.

Reports in Romania suggest that disgraced striker Adrian Mutu has signed a deal with Italian giants Juventus.
The 25-year-old is without a club at the moment after being axed by Chelsea following a positive test for cocaine.
The former Parma and Verona striker is still suspended by FIFA, but the 'Gazeta Sportuliror' newspaper reports that the Turin club have offered him a pre-contract for when his ban is lifted.
Despite his off-field problems, he is still very highly rated, with the likes of Roma, Fiorentina and Palermo also having expressed an interest.
Mutu moved to Stamford Bridge in a £15.8million deal in August 2003 and scored 10 goals in his 30 starts for the club.

MONACO (AFP) - Monaco striker Shabani Nonda is set to join Juventus after his agent admitted he expected negotiations to start any time following media reports in Italy of the player's imminent arrival.
Sport daily Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday said the hugely talented striker, who escaped war-torn Burundi as a youth and began playing football in a Tanzanian refugee camp, would become a Juventus player next season when his contract with Monaco expires.
Nonda's agent John Dario told AFP: "We haven't had any direct contact with Juventus, but given the reports in Italy today it looks like it won't be too long."
According to the daily, Juventus president Luciano Moggi has already agreed a fee with the player and his agent for a three-year deal with an annual salary of 1.3 million euros.
Dario added: "We are currently in negotiations with Monaco for a two-year extension to his contract but we can't agree on the terms."
Dario said he had also been in contact with other clubs, including Scottish side Rangers and Spanish first division side Atletico Madrid and that negotiations were expected to resume in January.
He added that Nonda, who is currently nursing a thigh injury, would prefer to stay with the French league side until the end of the season in order to participate in their Champions League campaign.
Monaco qualified for last year's final, losing to eventual winners FC Porto. This season, Didier Deschamps' side are one of two from the French league, alongside Lyon, to be in the last 16.
Nonda began his professional career in 1995 with FC Zurich in Switzerland, where he scored 36 goals in 75 games before moving to Rennes in the French top flight.
He was then signed by Monaco at the start of the 2000-2001 season. Two seasons later he finished the league's top scorer with 26 goals.
Nonda's career looked in doubt when he suffered an horrific knee ligament injury in August 2003 against Paris St Germain.
It kept him sidelined until April of this year, since when he has only periodically played a part in Monaco's domestic and European campaigns.
Last week reigning Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen sold Greek international striker Angelos Charisteas to Dutch giants Ajax in a bid to lure Nonda.

By Paolo Menicucci
Roma's Daniele De Rossi (celebrating) is among the players to develop since the U21 triumph
When Marcello Lippi became Italy coach last summer, he immediately announced that players from the team who had just won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship would swiftly earn promotion to the senior ranks.
Parma duo
Indeed, three of those players, Daniele Bonera, Daniele De Rossi and Alberto Gilardino, are already key members of Lippi's squad. Despite being 23 and 22 respectively, the Parma FC players Bonera and Gilardino are already old hands. Defender Bonera has been regarded as one of the best prospects in Italian football since his Serie A debut with Brescia Calcio in 2000. Meanwhile Gilardino scored 23 times last season for Parma, and Lippi's decision to unleash him in Italy's attack took nobody by surprise.
De Rossi emergence
The best news for the national coach, though, came arguably from the performances of midfield player De Rossi. Born in 1983, the AS Roma product has already established himself as a key player at the Stadio Olimpico, and has repaid Lippi's faith by scoring two goals in his first three games in the Azzurri shirt. A former attacker, De Rossi has not lost his sense for goal. He can run, tackle and is technically skilled.
Ballwinner Blasi
In the long-term De Rossi could establish an effective midfield partnership with Manuele Blasi. The 24-year-old is finally proving his great potential with Juventus FC. A fantastic ballwinner, Blasi displaced the experienced Alessio Tacchinardi in the Juve lineup, and could soon do the same thing with the Azzurri.
Chiellini chance
Another player who has already caught Lippi's eye is ACF Fiorentina left-back Giorgio Chiellini. Juventus partially own Chiellini's playing licence and the Bianconeri are expected to do everything they can to bring the 20-year-old back to the Delle Alpi stadium next summer. Powerful, fast and technically skilled, Chiellini made his debut for the Italian senior team in a friendly game against Finland in November. In the long-term, Lippi could decide to move Gianluca Zambrotta to a more advanced position in order to find a place for Chiellini in his team.
Sicilian defence
US Città di Palermo defender Cristian Zaccardo is also a fine prospect. The 22-year-old can play across the defence but excels at right-back, and he also made his debut for Italy against Finland. Palermo's Sicilian rivals FC Messina Peloro, meanwhile, boast Alessandro Parisi, an attack-minded left-back who is doing great things in his first season in Serie A at the age of 27.
Atalanta prospects
Atalanta BC are known for having the best youth system in the country and the club continue to produce exciting young players. Riccardo Montolivo, 19, is a talented and creative attacking force while two 20-year-olds - powerful striker Gianpaolo Pazzini and versatile midfield player Andrea Lazzari - have impressed.
Fiorentina's fast-improving Giorgio Chiellini
Bulgarian brilliance
Some overseas players are also making their mark in Serie A. Bulgarian international Valeri Bojinov, just 18, is already one of the most feared strikers in the league. Signed by US Lecce when he was 13, Bojinov is in the mould of Wayne Rooney. A natural-born talent, he has a great shot with both feet, physical power and an innate sense for goal.
New Zidane?
Two years older than Bojinov, Bologna FC playmaker Mourad Meghni has already been labelled as the new Zinedine Zidane. From a technical point of view the Frenchman is undoubtedly one of the most skilled players in Serie A and continues to improve.

Parma - Juventus
Stadio Tardini
Juve boss Fabio Capello will be hoping that the Christmas break did his players some good after they showed signs of fatigue towards the end of 2004. Although they ended the year four points clear of Milan, the Bianconeri were struggling to live up to their form from earlier this term.
On paper, their Week 17 trip to Parma shouldn’t be too taxing when you consider that the Gialloblu are in deep relegation trouble and lost their last Serie A game 5-1 at Roma. However, new boss Pietro Carmignani has had a little more time to prepare his troops since his appointment last month.
Nevertheless, the Tardini Coach does have a few selection problems. Cardone, Marchionni, Bresciano and Grieco have had their fitness troubles recently. While Pisanu and Contini will be unavailable due to suspension. Parma’s hopes of piercing a very solid Juve defence will fall on the shoulders of Alberto Gilardino – a striker who nearly moved to Turin in the summer.
Capello has few selections problems for Thursday’s game. David Trezeguet is still not available even if he has returned to training. While Lilian Thuram won’t face his former club as the stopper is suspended. Paolo Montero should step in for the former French international.

Christmas break came in time for tired Juventus, even we were awful vs Milan, my team managed to maintain advantage on the top , break was used to refresh regulars ( you probably forget that Juve started season earlier because of CL qualification round ).
First test in new year is Befana trip to Parma. If I wrote preview let’s say 3 years ago I would have been worried about result, but after glorious years Parma face all sort of troubles.
Financial breakdown of Parmalat made club to sell best players - mix of talented youngsters and established players who want to go like Gilardin , Bonera and Morfeo didn’t work as expected, they are in relegation zone, they sacked coach Baldini and new man in charge Pietro Carmignani has really tough job , he managed to take Parma in the next stage of UEFA Cup but then came humiliating defeat vs Roma.
Of course Juventus will try to use hard situation in Parma, every point in title race vs milan can be crucial, although bianconeri always had problems in Parma (only one win in last 5 games , few in last 10 years) it is past, things dramatically changed and honestly I don’t see how Parma can match Juventus.
First it is big gap of quality between two sides, second Juventus have experience in “must win” situations, third Parma can’t be consistent whole game ususally they play good 45 minutes and against the "big dogs" it is not enough (remember game vs Milan, they took lead than conceded two in last 8 minutes and lost the game).
Juve will be without Thuram and it seems that experienced Paolo Montero will act as a replacement. David Trezegue is one week away from back in team so he will absent too. Capello is expected to start with Ibrahimovic – Del Piero, and it can be last chance for our captain to prove he deserves regular XI place.
Here is Juve line – up :
Buffon -- Zebina, Montero, Cannavaro, Zambrotta -- Camoranesi , Emerson , Blasi , Nedved -- Ibrahimovic , Del Piero
Parma will be without Pisanu and Contini but they are not important, some players are not fully fit like Bresciano, Marchionni, Cardone and Grieco. Coach Carmignani will decide before the game if some of them will be in starting line – up.
Frey -- Ferronetti, Bovo, Bonera, Potenza -- Bolano, Simplicio -- Rosina, Morfeo Grella -- Gilardino
On paper the Parma team isn’t bad but they simply lack experience and defenders tend to make huge mistakes. I think that players like Ibrahimovic and Del Piero will use it…

As the second half of the Serie A season commences, Parma know that nothing less that a dramatic turn around in form will suffice if they are to remain in Italy’s top flight. The Bianconeri visit the Tardini after a well-earned break, with renewed energy they should be hard to contain.
BACKGROUND
After an astonishingly poor first half of the season, Parma have been left languishing in the bottom three of Serie A. With only 12 points from 15 games, Gialloblu fans fear the worst for their team. Whilst Parma are hardly prolific scorers, it is their defence that has caused so many problems during this troubled campaign. With such a young squad it is inevitable that players will be prone to lapses of concentration and slip-ups that have cost the club vital points. However, the calibre of the Gialloblu’s youngsters suggests that the team should be doing far better. With highly coveted under 21 stars such as Bovo and Bonera in their side Parma should be performing much better at the back. The same can be said of their attack, which has managed a measly 15-goal haul so far. Star striker Alberto Gilardino is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe, with the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus interested but has failed to find the consistency of last season. Without a regular goal scorer Parma have struggled and the fans will be hoping that key players such as Gilardino and Bresciano find their scoring touch as soon as possible.
Parma’s performances seem to have improved under new manager Pietro Carmignani although it is still rather too early to tell. The tactician was brought in to replace former manager Silvio Baldini who paid the price for his teams slump this season. If Carmignani can get his side to repeat the form that saw his side win 3-2 against Besiktas in the UEFA Cup there may yet be hope for the Gialloblu.
Juventus’ start to the season could not be more different to Parma’s. Whilst continuing to pick up vital victories in the league, Juventus have looked shaky in recent games and were criticised by sections of the media for their performance against Milan. Capello has stated many times that his team were starting to tire after their amazing start to the season and the tactician will be grateful for their recent break. With Juventus at almost full strength, and their key players rested, Parma will be in for a tough test at the Tardini stadium.
FORM GUIDE
Parma: LLLLWL
Parma’s form looks like that of a team destined for relegation. Carmignani will need to get the most out of his hugely under performing squad if they are to remain in Serie A.
Juventus: WDWDWD
The Turin side have slipped in recent weeks but have still managed to pick up vital points despite their minor blip. The Bianconeri should now begin another winning cycle.
TEAM NEWS
Parma:
Cardone, Degano, Savi and Bolano are unavailable through injury. The impressive Pisanu and Contini are suspended.
Juventus:
David Trezeguet is still recovering from a shoulder operation but is close to a return. Thuram is suspended and will be replaced by Montero at the back. Aside from both Frenchmen, Capello has a full squad of players to pick from and will most probably pick the same side that drew with Milan.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Parma:
Alberto Gilardino has had a mixed 2005, winning the European under 21 Championships and finishing as the most impressive player was a highlight, along with finishing as the top scoring Italian in Serie A. However this season has seen the youngster struggle to live up to his growing reputation as he has failed to score goals. If the youngster bounces back to his best he will be a massive threat to the Bianconeri, as he has the ability to turn over any defence.
Juventus:
Ibrahimovic could not have asked for a better introduction to the Juventus fans, as his fine performances endeared him almost instantly. Some have likened the Swede to the legendary Marco Van Basten and its easy to see why. Zlatan has the quality to terrorise Parma’s struggling defence.
PROBABLE STARTING XIs
Parma (5-3-1-1):
Frey - Ferronetti, Bovo, Bonera, Cannavaro - Potenza, Grella, Bresciano - Simplicio, Morfeo, Gilardino
Juventus (4-4-2):
Buffon - Zebina, Montero, F.Cannavaro, Zambrotta - Camoranesi, Blasi, Emerson, Nedved - Del Piero, Ibrahimovic.
PREDICTION
Juventus should easily cope with Parma and begin 2005 in style.

and milan continued their tradition of a super second half-season. 2 points between milan and juve and with juve in bad form and still having to visit san siro later in the season. capello must be thinking of how to stop milan. another 5 goals scored today, crespo seem to be the same guy before he left for chelsea.

Juventus entertain Livorno on Sunday after dropping crucial points against Parma on Thursday. Plucky Livorno may be facing Juventus at the best time as Capello’s men look far less effective than they have been in recent months. The Bianconeri cannot afford further setback as they head into the second part of the season.
BACKGROUND
Capello’s Bianconeri side have looked jaded in recent weeks and now sit just two points clear at the top of Serie A. With a sparkling Milan side in hot pursuit Juventus are now under pressure to start performing if they are to remain the top placed side in Italy. Juventus have still only lost one game so far this season, but are in danger of jeopardising their impressive early season for with recent performances. Whilst a draw with Milan was not a bad result, Capello’s men should have claimed maximum points against relegation threatened Parma.
After the winter break Capello can no longer use tiredness as an excuse for another under par performance. Juventus will welcome back Thuram in the heart of defence after a costly Montero blunder cost Juve a vital victory at the Tardini. With Cannavaro and Thuram reunited Juventus should regain their solidity at the back.
Livorno have performed much better than expected after promotion to Italy’s top flight last season. The Serie A minnows find themselves in the respectable position of 13th in the table, above teams of the calibre of Lazio, Parma and Bologna. Many feared that the club would go straight back down after investing little in players during the summer. Livorno have surprised everyone by holding their own in one of Europe’s most difficult leagues largely thanks to the goals of Cristiano Lucarelli. With his 29 goal haul last season, the former Lecce and Torino man almost single-handedly brought Livorno into Serie A. With 9 goals so far this season, the hugely experienced striker has carried on where he left off and paved the way for a possible Azzurri call up.
FORM GUIDE:
Juventus (all competitions – oldest result first): DWDWDD
Capello’s men seem to have taken their foot off the pedal in recent games and will need to find the winning consistency that took them to the top of Serie A.
Livorno (all competitions – oldest result first): DLLWDL
Colomba could not ask for more from his side. Whilst their safety is still by no means guaranteed, their form till now has given them an excellent chance of avoiding a quick return to Serie B.
TEAM NEWS
Juventus:
Capello looks set to name his usual starters in what his settled side. With only Trezeguet unavailable for the match, the former Roma boss has no selection worries ahead of Livorno’s visit. Trezeguet is expected to return at the end of the month to further boost Juventus’ title chances. Thuram comes into the team to replace Montero who does not even make the bench following his error in mid-week.
Livorno:
Livorno manager Colomba can call upon most of his first team regulars to face the Bianconeri. However, star player Cristiano Lucarelli will be missing from the line-up through suspension and will be a massive loss. The physical striker has been impressive this season and will be hard to replace. Former Arsenal trialist Tomas Danilevicius will step in to fill the void.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Juventus:
With so many champions at his disposal, Capello is the envy of most managers in Serie A. Against Livorno the key man will once again be Fabio Cannavaro, who has been in sensational form since joining the Turin side. Reunited with his Parma teammates Buffon and Thuram, the former Inter ace has put last season’s indifferent form behind him.
Livorno:
With Lucarelli out of the game fellow striker Protti will shoulder the burden of leading the line against Juventus. Protti was excellent in last season’s Serie B campaign and scored an impressive 24 goals to help his side win promotion. If Protti performs to his potential then Juventus will need to be at their best to contain him.
PROBABLE STARTING XIs
Juventus (4-4-2):
Buffon - Zebina, Thuram, F.Cannavaro, Zambrotta - Camoranesi, Blasi, Emerson, Nedved – Ibrahimovic, Del Piero.
Livorno (4-4-2):
Amelia; Melara, Vargas, Galante, A. Lucarelli; Pfertzel, Passoni; Doga, Giallombardo, Danilevicius; Protti
PREDICTION
Juventus should shrug off their mini slump and ease past Livorno.
Juventus 2-0 Livorno

Juve put in another disappointing performance, but still get back on track with a victory against troubled Livorno.
Juventus saw their lead sliced to just two points going into this game, with two consecutive draws against Milan and Parma. However, they were the overwhelming favourites to get the victory against Livorno. With both Cristiano and Alessandro Lucarelli suspended, they also froze Igor Protti out of the side following his public row with Coach Franco Colomba.
Ruben Olivera surprisingly started in midfield, as Manuele Blasi was sent to the stands. Gigi Buffon was tested by a Doga chance, then Zlatan Ibrahimovic turned a free header just wide of the post from a corner kick.
Marco Amelia then rushed off his line to clear from Pavel Nedved as Juve dominated the early play.
Alessandro Del Piero has been criticised in the press recently and substituted repeatedly, but it was the captain who opened the scoring after 17 minutes. He lost his marker to nod in Olivera's sweeping free kick from eight yards.
There was only one team in it and soon after Juve doubled their lead with a chaotic move. Ibrahimovic's diving header on a Zebina cross was pushed on to the crossbar by Fabio Galante, but Mauro Camoranesi was ready to tap in the loose ball.
Marco Amelia flew to fingertip an Ibrahimovic header over the bar, a move started by an impressive Del Piero backheel.
Livorno may have had no strikers, but they still pierced the Juventus defence just before the break. Doga's long cross found a diving Jose Luis Vidigal header at the back post.
The visitors managed to string together a few corner kicks in the second half and Olivera's promising counter-attack was halted by Vargas.
Del Piero's confidence was boosted and he performed a stunning piece of trickery with two backheels to send Nedved running, then curled a free kick just over the bar.
Livorno were also more confident and Buffon bravely rushed off his line with a perfectly timed tackle on Danilevicius, while Vigiani could only hit the side-netting of an open goal.
Melara accidentally deflected an Ibrahimovic cross on to his own crossbar, giving Livorno a lucky escape.
Juve were beginning to struggle, but managed to restore their two-goal cushion with 15 minutes to go. Alessio Tacchinardi's cross was touched back for an Ibrahimovic piledriver from the edge of the box. There were protests that Zalayeta handled the ball, but the referee waved play on.
Yet Livorno re-opened the match yet again in the closing stages, as Matteo Melara was allowed too much time to control a corner kick and nod in from close range.
There was controversy moments later when Vidigal was clearly held back by Fabio Cannavaro as he tried to reach Doga's cross, but the Portuguese player was also probably offside.
However, in the final minute Tacchinardi was brought down by Amelia and Camoranesi converted the resulting penalty.
Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Emerson, Olivera (Tacchinardi 63), Nedved; Ibrahimovic (Pessotto 85), Del Piero (Zalayeta 67)
Livorno: Amelia; Balleri, Melara, Vargas, Galante; Passoni, Doga, Vidigal, Grauso (Colombo 76); Danilevicius, Vigiani

No Untouchables At Juve-Capello
1/9/2005 11:48:00 PM
Even though Juventus skipper Alessandro Del Piero found the net against Livorno, he was replaced by coach Fabio Capello midway through the second half once again in this season.
“In that moment I needed a player like Zalayeta who could immediately make a mark on the match. My choices aren’t dictated by any particular positive or negative feelings I have towards a player,” Capello explained.
“They are no untouchables in my Juve. All the players have to understand this concept,” Capello added.
Juventus defeated Livorno 4-2 on Sunday to stay top of the Serie A table.

New frontier of televised soccer opens in Italy
Associated Press
Posted: 3 hours ago
MILAN, Italy (AP) - A new way to charge soccer fans for watching Serie A games on television is coming to Italy this month, possibly changing the viewing habits in the country and, some argue, threatening attendance at matches.
The Mediaset group owned by Premier Silvio Berlusconi and the television network of telecommunications giant Telecom Italia are set to introduce a system that enables viewers to buy cards for as much as €3 (US$3.90). Each card contains a number that when entered into a decoder will allow viewers to watch an individual match.
For some it could be far less costly than the system offered by Rupert Murdoch's pay-per-view Sky Italia, which requires a contract and €53 (US$69) a month for a package that includes news, movies and the ability to watch every Serie A match.
Some analysts say the new service might alter the habits of fans, and possibly hurt attendance.
"If you can see the match of your favorite team at home, with a few euros, what's the reason for going to the stadium?" leading soccer commentator Giorgio Tosatti wrote in Corriere della Sera.
The cards go on sale this week for 20th-round matches Jan. 22-23.
Games involving the country's most popular teams will cost €3 (US$3.90) for Mediaset subscribers and €2 (US$2.60) on La7, a Telecom-controlled national TV channel.
Mediaset also offers prepaid cards of €18 (US$23.60) for six matches and La7 of €10 (US$13) for five.
Making the offer more appealing, Berlusconi's government is offering discounts for the decoder, which is about €70 (US$92). The government has been promoting terrestrial digital broadcasting, and a law requires all TV transmission to be digital by 2007.
The new system is expected lead Sky Italia to demand renegotiations with the clubs, all of which negotiate individual TV contracts. Sky Italia spent about €400 million (US$524 million) for exclusive satellite rights to all 20 Serie A clubs this season.
Sky Italia has about 2.5 million subscribers in Italy, and draws a peak audience of about 2 million for featured Serie A night matches.
Mediaset Deputy Chairman Piersilvio Berlusconi, the son of the Italian premier, has hailed the new service as a revolution, but said he did not expect fans to give up their stadium seats.
"I don't think the stadiums will be emptied," he told Corriere della Sera in an interview published Monday. "The real supporters won't give up."
The Berlusconi family owns 17-time Italian league champion and six-time European champion AC Milan, which has sold television rights to both Mediaset and Sky Italia.
Other teams signing with Mediaset include Juventus, Inter Milan, AS Roma, Sampdoria, Messina, Atalanta and Livorno for the remaining half of the Serie A season. Mediaset has paid €125 million (US$164 million).
La7 has signed contracts with Cagliari, Palermo, Fiorentina, Chievo Verona, Lecce, Reggina, Brescia, Bologna and Parma for a total of €32 million (US$42 million).
A few clubs still are negotiating their rights with either groups.

Juventus are considering offers for two defenders who are not part of Fabio Capello’s plans.
Aston Villa have put in a bid for Nicola Legrottaglie, which could see the Italian lured to the Premiership.
The Bianconeri are looking to reduce the size of their squad, and the out of favour stopper has been told that he is free to leave.
The Birmingham based club have this afternoon gone through the terms of their bid with Juve and the player’s agent, and are now waiting for a response from both parties.
Veteran defender Mark Iuliano may also be set for a move overseas as Majorca have expressed an interest.
The Spanish club’s sporting director is set to meet with the former Salernitana player in the next couple of days to discuss terms.
Serie A outfits Siena and Bologna have not entirely lost hope of luring the former international south of Turin, but Iuliano’s high wage demands may scupper any deal.
In other transfer news, Lampros Chouthos has joined Atalanta on loan for the rest of the season.
The Greek, a 25-year-old former Roma player, has moved to Bergamo just months after Inter signed him on a free transfer.
Napoli have also officially signed Emanuele Calaiò from Pescara after he penned a five-year deal.

Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina believes his team need to rediscover their form quickly or risk being overtaken by Milan.
Fabio Capello’s side re-established a four-point advantage over Milan at the top of Serie A at the weekend, but Zebina still feels they will have their work cut out to clinch the Scudetto.
"It’s obvious that the Rossoneri are better than anyone right now," the 26-year-old told France Football magazine.
"They are going through the same exceptional period that we had at the start of the season.
"When we played them on December 18 they dominated the game, so in the end, a draw wasn’t a bad result for us.
"We weren’t good that night. We didn’t impose ourselves and we allowed them to slowly take control of the spaces and the game which could have been fatal."
The Frenchman, who has established himself as the Juventus right-back following a summer move from Roma, added: "We still have our destiny in our own hands and it’s up to us to re-find our rhythm quickly so that we maintain our advantage."

Juventus defender Mark Iuliano has joined Spanish strugglers Real Mallorca on a permanent transfer.
The 31-year-old former Italy international joined Juve in 1996 from Salernitana and helped the Turin outfit win four league titles and a European Supercup.
Iuliano becomes Mallorca's second signing during the January transfer window after striker Bernardo Daniel Romeo joined the Balearic Island club this weekend on a loan deal from Hamburg.
Mallorca are second from bottom of the Primera Liga with just three wins from 18 matches.

The 29-year-old was a ₤5 million signing for Juventus in 2002 but has failed to become a first team regular with the Italian giants and is available on an initial six-month loan deal with a view to a permanent move.
Robson is looking for short-term deals that can be turned into longer contracts if Albion avoid relegation and has already snapped up former Everton striker Kevin Campbell and Argentine midfielder Matias Almeyda from Brescia.
The Baggies boss has also made an enquiry about Roma’s Italian international striker Marco Delvecchio and is set to look for further signings from Serie A in the coming weeks.

Coppa Italia isn’t Juve's main objective, but I have no doubts Fabio Capello wants team to reach next round.
Our coach said on news conference on Wed that he believe team will have strength to beat Atalanta and progress.
Most important news is that David Trezeguet will back after shoulder operation and he will be in atack with Zalayeta.
Of course Capello will rest main stars but reserves should be too strong for Atalanta, which also will be without best players.
Reason is simple, as Atlanta are in relegation zone, only one win so far this season and on Sunday they have vital match with Siena , maybe their last chance to stay in touch with other relegation candidates.
Bergamaschi bought some new players like Greek Choutos and Sinigallia, but they will not play, I think with some bench players and even some primavera (youth school) guys, they can’t match Juventus.
Juve will be without Cannavaro, Buffon, Thuram, Del Piero, Nedved etc ... but I will still take them.

His agent is Moggi's son..hahaa...:D
13 January 2005
The sacked former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu has signed for the Italian Serie A side Juventus on a five-year deal, the club announced yesterday.
The 25-year-old was fired after failing a drugs test in October 2004 and subsequently banned for seven months. Chelsea, who brought the player to Stamford Bridge in August 2003 for £15.8m, effectively wrote off their investment when Mutu left the club.
The Romanian will not, however, be able to play for the Turin side until the ban expires on 18 May. He has plenty of Serie A experience, having played for Internazionale, Verona and Parma.
Mutu started well in London, scoring on his debut and then three more in his first three matches, but struggled to hold down a regular first-team place when Jose Mourinho succeeded Claudio Ranieri as manager.
Mourinho was no fan of - indeed, he grew suspicious of - Mutu's flamboyant lifestyle and it was inevitable a clash was on the cards, especially when the player defied his manager's orders and travelled to play for Romania while suffering from an injury. Mourinho revealed that he directed testers to Mutu, in answer to the forward's unpredictable behaviour.
Mutu could return to action at a crucial time for Juve as after 18 May, the club still have two matches to play in Serie A - they currently lead the table by four points from Milan.
Fabio Capello's men could also still be involved in the Champions' League with the final being played on 25 May.
The link with Juve may have come about as Mutu's new agent, Alessandro Moggi, is the son of club general director Luciano Moggi.
The club already possess an array of attacking talent with Alessandro Del Piero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Trezeguet in their ranks.

Juventus favourites to land Miguel
Juventus have emerged as favourites to land Benfica wing-back Miguel.
The Portuguese international has already been the subject of a £6.5 million offer from Juve and directors are confident a deal will be struck at the end of this season.
Juve director general Luciano Moggi sees Miguel as a more consistent answer at right-back than Jonathan Zebina.

Andrea Lazzari netted a superb hat-trick as Atalanta knocked Juventus out of the Coppa Italia.
The 20-year-old was the hero in tonight’s 3-3 draw, just weeks after he grabbed a brace in the 2-0 first leg victory.
Returning striker David Trezeguet got on the scoresheet for the home side, after his three-month injury lay-off, but was overshadowed by the Nerazzurri youngster.
Atalanta got off to the worst possible start as Cesare Natali scored an own goal just four minutes into the game.
But the Bergamo boys hit back almost immediately when Lazzari ran through to score his first of the night.
Zalayeta put Juventus in front again on 33 minutes but the Under-21 international made sure his side went in level by netting just before the interval.
Trez made it 3-2 as he finished well from close range, only for Lazzari to collect his third in injury time.
Atalanta, who were aided by the 79th minute dismissal of Alessio Tacchinardi, now face Inter in the quarter finals.
Juventus 3-3 Atalanta (3-5 on agg)
Scorers: Natali (A) og 4, Lazzari (A) 10, 43, 91, Zalayeta (J) 33, Trezeguet (J) 79

As Juve’s moves on the transfer market hot up, Bianconeri captain Alessandro Del Piero is tempted by the J-League.
The Italian international has a troubled relationship with Fabio Capello after being substituted by the Coach 17 times this season.
David Trezeguet’s return from injury, which sees the Frenchman start in Juve’s Coppa Italia tie tonight, could see Pinturicchio pushed back on to the bench.
The Azzurri star is highly rated in Japan, and a number of clubs have made it clear that they could offer Del Piero an incredible financial package, including J-League giants Kashima Antlers.
The Delle Alpi favourite has consistently refused a move away from the club which he has come to symbolise, though at the age of 30 his career has been winding down with a succession of injuries and long patches of poor form.
Meanwhile, Nicola Legrottaglie and Igor Tudor are close to agreeing terms for their transfer to the UK. Both players are being courted by West Bromwich Albion, who seem on the verge of pulling off an impressive coup.
The Bianconeri are cutting down on their squad after selling Mark Iuliano to Hector Cuper’s Real Majorca in a permanent move.

Nicola Legrottaglie’s Juventus nightmare is over after he joined Bologna for the rest of the season.
The central defender has flopped at the Delle Alpi since his move from Chievo in the summer of 2003.
But now the Rossoblu, and boss Carlo Mazzone in particular, have offered him the chance to prove his doubters wrong.
The 28-year-old, who has also played for Bari, Pistoiese, Prato, Reggiana and Modena, has signed on loan until June.
Legrottaglie, who was tipped to have a decent international career, has spent much of this season on the bench.
He’s been relegated to the stands as boss Fabio Capello prefers the partnership of Lilian Thuram and Fabio Cannavaro.
Meanwhile, Juventus have announced that the unveiling of new signing Adriano Mutu has been delayed due to bureaucratic problems.
The club was due to present their new striker to the media tomorrow, but instead a press conference will be held to explain the status of the Romanian’s switch.

Player of the Week: Montella (Roma)
Monday 17 January, 2005
Vincenzo Montella returned to Roma’s rescue after the Giallorossi seemed to be heading for an embarrassing loss at Chievo. Coach Gigi Del Neri received a hero’s welcome at his former club but was on the verge of conceding defeat, after his defence leaked two goals in the first 20 minutes, until his star striker delivered the goods.
The 30-year-old was on brilliant form, putting his club back into the game thanks to a perfect pass from Francesco Totti. The international then extended his lead at the top of the scorers’ charts with an incredible equaliser. Montella again demonstrated the uncanny understanding he has with his captain, latching on to Totti’s chip with an overhead strike that beat the ‘keeper.
That was Montella’s first successful bicycle-kick in the top-flight which not only saw him move onto 16 goals this season - but also allowed him to extend his lead as Serie A’s most prolific striker in activity with 128.
Elsewhere in the League, diminutive striker Gianfranco Zola won a precious point for Cagliari with a late equaliser against Juventus. In a game marred by tension and controversial refereeing, Zola proved the perfect captain. He even embarrassed the Bianconeri defence by out-jumping Jonathan Zebina to head past Gigi Buffon.
Milan, thanks to the usual suspects, closed the gap on Juve despite going a goal down against Udinese. Antonio Di Natale produced another stylish strike to silence the San Siro, but Andriy Shevchenko and Kaka helped the Rossoneri to victory. Udinese midfielder Marek Jankulovski also netted, for his probable future club, with an unfortunate own goal.
However, the afternoon at the Giuseppe Meazza was dominated by praise for Rossoneri captain Paolo Maldini. He marked his 20th anniversary in Serie A, against the same club where it all started, with another statesmanlike performance.
Roberto Mancini’s Inter churned out a 0-0 on Saturday night, notching up their 13th draw of the season. The trip to Reggina seemingly didn’t agree with the Nerazzurri, who couldn’t break the deadlock despite the combined efforts of Christian Vieri, Adriano, Alvaro Recoba and Obafemi Martins.
Inter’s draw allowed another outsider to move a step closer to Champions’ League qualification. Palermo are now only three points off the pace after their fine victory at the Olimpico.
Lazio’s new signing Fabio Bazzani had a great start when he opened the scoring on 15 minutes, but the Sicilians spoiled the party with strikes of their own. Palermo fought hard to secure only their second win on the road this year, with Luca Toni authoring a brace and veteran midfielder Lamberto Zauli striking a splendid left foot volley to take the points.

Here goes the Goal.com Serie A team of the week for the nineteenth round of matches.
Tactical Formation: 3-4-3
Goalkeeper
Sicignano It’s not easy to be a keeper in Zeman’s squads, and the Lecce number one experienced this at Parma. However he did extremely well to keep his team in the game until Gilardino’s last gasp strike.
Defenders
Maldini Immense. In the day he celebrated his 20 year-long Serie A career he returned to play as left back and produced one of his finest performances of the season.
De Rosa The Inter forwards did little at the Granillo, mainly because of the great match produced by this sometimes inconsistent defender’s
Franceschini Together with team-mate De Rosa, he held the Serie A’s best attack scoreless. Helped out also on offense when he had the chance.
Midfielders
Corini Palermo’s best player on the pitch in their mighty win at Lazio.
Vigiani The Livorno player is slowly starting to resemele his new coach, the great Roberto Donadoni.
Kaka Finally the Brazilian was able to crown a good match with a much needed goal.
Tedesco Came off the bench and played for two once Reggina went down a man against Inter.
Forwards
Zola Scored an amazing goal against Juventus, with his head! An extraordinary player.
Shevchenko Since he won the Ballon D’Or the Ukrainian striker has all of a sudden transformed himself into an assist-man. Mind you, he hasn’t forgotten how to score goals. Just ask Udinese.
Montella Another two goals for the Aeroplane, the second being an absolute masterpiece. Just one word to describe the Roma striker in this moment: Top-Scorer.
Coach
Guidolin After a difficult December, Palermo are back on the edge of the Champions League zone.

Gianluigi Buffon has been named the World’s Best Goalkeeper for the second year running with Milan’s Dida in third place.
The Italy and Juventus shot-stopper was handed the accolade by the German-based International Federation for Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
“It’s wonderfully satisfying, especially as it is the second consecutive year in which I have topped this prestigious list,” said the player who turns 27 years of age at the end of this month.
“When it comes to these statistical analyses, it is important to maintain a certain level of consistency over the whole year and that means you have found your balance.”
Buffon earned 185 points, putting him in front of Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech with 125 and Milan hero Dida on 78. The next highest placed Italian was Inter’s Francesco Toldo in 16th place.
“I think this is a very valuable achievement, as the best goalkeepers in the world are lined up here,” added the former Parma star.
“I am particularly happy to see Cech in the runner-up slot, as he is perhaps not as well known as many others, but he is certainly among the best. Let us also not forget Dida’s remarkable class.”
1. Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus/Italy, 185pts
2. Petr Cech, Chelsea/Czech Republic, 125pts
3. Dida, Milan/Brazil, 78pts
4. Iker Casillas, Real Madrid/Spain, 75pts
5. Andonios Nikopolidis, Olympiakos/Greece, 64pts
6. Oliver Kahn, Bayern Munich/Germany, 39pts
7. Roberto Carlos Abbondanzieri, Boca Juniors/Argentina, 31pts
8. Vitor Manuel Martins Baia, Porto/Portugal, 29pts
9. Juan Carlos Henao, Once Caldas/Colombia, 29pts

Gianfranco Zola has given Alessandro Del Piero advice on getting his career back on track while the Juve man reacts to his critics.
The Bianconeri captain was sensationally dropped from the starting line-up for the 1-1 draw at Cagliari on Sunday evening, fuelling reports he’ll join a Japanese club at the end of this season.
“After the match I spoke to Ale for a long time as we are good friends,” revealed Sardinian goalscorer Zola.
“I just told him to relax and forget that he is Del Piero, because now he’s got to start all over again. Every player has gone through tough periods like this, so I reminded him of my own problems and how I came out of them stronger than ever.”
Zola was pushed out of the Parma squad by then-Coach Carlo Ancelotti, but found solace and a new career path in the Premiership with Chelsea.
Del Piero could also be forced to go overseas in order to find a club that will pay his wages and Japan seems to be the most likely option right now after he was repeatedly substituted by Coach Fabio Capello.
“Of course he isn’t happy about the current situation,” continued Zola, “but he can come out of this a better player. The only cure is to look ahead and react to it, and Del Piero has the qualities to do that. He has a fight ahead of him, but I am convinced he can make it.”
The Italian international did not comment on the issue on his official website, but did pledge to get Juventus back on track.
“Our lead has been cut to two points as we reach the halfway stage,” he explained, “and it was a little disappointing to see Cagliari snatch our victory away at the last minute. Like swimmers, we get an extra push off the wall midway through a race and we won’t let our opponents make up any more ground.”
Meanwhile, while Zola has ruined Juve’s plans, another veteran is making his mark on Serie A. Alessandro ‘Billy’ Costacurta has extended his contract with Milan until June 30 2006, by which point he will be 40 years old.

Livorno swoop for Mutu
Livorno president Aldo Spinelli has admitted former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu will join the club when his suspension for a drug offence is completed after Juventus ran into problems over his transfer.
Since Juve have filled all of their non-EU places for this season, Mutu has been forced to register with Livorno who will in turn loan the Romanian international back to their counterparts until they open up a spot for him in the squad.
“It’s just a favour we made to Juventus, and as an exchange at the end of the season they will give us a few of their young players,” Spinelli told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We sat round a table and whilst Mutu was signing for Livorno and became our player, we were signing his transfer to Juventus.”
“Now it’s up to (Luciano) Moggi, when they have overcome the transfer problem that was blocking him they will register our agreement, everything will be complete in two weeks.”

Juventus put Mutu transfer on hold
By John Ley
(Filed: 20/01/2005)
The transfer of Adrian Mutu, the former Chelsea striker, to Juventus has been put on hold pending next week's hearing at which the Romanian will claim unfair dismissal.
Juventus announced last week that Mutu was joining the club on a five-year contract but, after cancelling a planned press conference with Mutu, they admitted his arrival had been delayed.
Mutu was sacked by Chelsea earlier this season after admitting using cocaine. He was later by the Football Association, who have refused to release the player's registration until after next Thursday's hearing. If Mutu wins his case he could, in theory, return to Stamford Bridge.
The signing of Mutu has been more complicated than first anticipated. With Juventus already having the maximum number of non-European players allowed in their squad, under the rules of the Italian football league, the player could not sign.
But Juventus can still recruit a non-European player from another Serie A club and so promoted club Livorno have bought the player's sporting rights on behalf of Juventus before agreeing a deal with them.
Luciano Moggi, the Juventus general-director, said: "We are still awaiting the arrival of Mutu's transfer from the Premier League to Livorno, which will then allow us to conclude the affair.
"A promoted Serie A club has the right to acquire a non-European player, thus, Livorno have acquired Mutu's sporting rights and have transferred them to us, as has occurred so many times in other cases with other teams. This is a move that is ratified by the league and by the federation.''
Chelsea, meanwhile, have admitted that they want to sign Leeds goalkeeper Scott Carson, who is also wanted by Liverpool.

Window Closed At Juve, Mutu Is Ours-Moggi
1/19/2005 6:36:00 PM
Juventus general manager and transfer guru Luciano Moggi announced the Bianconeri’s transfer activity for this January window is officially over.
“Juve sold Iuliano to Mallorca and loaned out Legrottaglie to Bologna. With these two moves, our transfer market is closed,” he said, before giving details on the Mutu transfer.
“Livorno signed the player, and will turn him over to us. This is a technique that many Serie A teams have used in the past, like Inter with Gamarra,” he said.
”We are now waiting for the transfert to arrive from England. Another week is needed before everything will be complete, and then Adrian will start training with us.
“The latest problems between Chelsea and Mutu are between them two, and don’t involve us. These won’t hinder the completion of the move.”

Juve consider Miccoli sale
Wednesday 19 January, 2005
Fiorentina could be a step closer to buying on-loan striker Fabrizio Miccoli from Juventus as the Bianconeri bid for Javier Mascherano.
Juve chief officer Antonio Giraudo and Viola President Diego Della Valle yesterday denied talking business when they met in Milan for a League summit.
However, with three players currently in co-ownership between the two sides, they must resolve the future of Miccoli, Enzo Maresca and Giorgio Chiellini.
Chiellini seems destined to play for Juventus next season, after Fabio Capello insisted that the international defender was in his plans. But the Viola could obtain the services of Maresca for £3.5m and Miccoli for £5m.
Miccoli has already said that he would be delighted to sign for Fiorentina, but the price tag may be a bit steep for Della Valle. In that case, another year of co-ownership could be on the cards.
Fiorentina have reportedly completed the signing of Dario Dainelli, buying out the remaining 50 per cent of his contract from Brescia for £1.4m.
Elsewhere, Juve have also entered into the running for River Plate’s Javier Mascherano. The Argentine midfielder is already being chased by Chelsea and Inter, but the Bianconeri have an ace up their sleeve.
Juve still own Marcelo Salas, who is currently at River Plate, and could strike an exchange deal for the two players.

Livorno solve Mutu loophole
Wednesday 19 January, 2005
Adrian Mutu has been registered with Livorno to bypass the limits set on non-EC players and Chelsea are owed nothing, explained Juve's transfer guru Luciano Moggi.
“Livorno have signed Mutu and will turn him over to us as soon as the international transfer comes through,” said Juventus director general Luciano Moggi in today’s press conference.
New regulations state that a Serie A club cannot sign a fifth non-EC player unless he was already plying his trade in Italy that season.
Livorno have not reached their quota yet, so they were able to register Mutu and will then sell him on to Juventus.
“In any case, Mutu will play with us for the next five years. We don’t owe Chelsea anything, as it is an issue between the English club and the player. We have a very precise agreement with him.”
The Bianconeri had long been associated with Mutu and had been close to completing the move in the summer before his cocaine scandal broke.
“Mutu is a world class player and we had been tracking him from his time at Verona,” continued Moggi. “At the time his price-tag was too high. This summer the negotiations were at an advanced stage before Roman Abramovich changed his mind on a loan deal at the last minute, but this chance came and we took it. Now our transfer campaign has closed.”
Livorno also noted the procedure was far from an unusual one for Serie A sides.
“Our President simply decided to do Juve a favour,” revealed director Elio Signorelli. “It is possible we will receive some players in exchange, but we haven’t discussed it yet.”
The Romanian was a free agent after he was fired from Chelsea for failing a drugs test, but was unable to register for the Bianconeri and today’s planned press conference was cancelled due to “bureaucratic problems.”
“This is hardly a crazy manoeuvre,” said agent Claudio Pasqualin. “It is a perfectly normal procedure that does not violate any existing rules. Livorno will receive a player in exchange and nothing more.”
It’s already reported that the Amaranto will be handed promising youngster David Chiumiento, currently on loan at Siena, at the end of the season.
The impasse with Chelsea is still far from resolved, however, as the Stamford Bridge side is looking for compensation for breach of contract.
“The London club has certainly been left out of pocket by this whole incident,” added Pasqualin. “I expect a long and difficult legal battle between Chelsea and Mutu.”

Davids set for shock return?
Thursday 20 January, 2005
Juventus could be preparing an audacious move to bring Edgar Davids back to the Delle Alpi.
Director general Luciano Moggi has made it clear that the Bianconeri are searching for a quality midfielder to play alongside Emerson.
The Dutch international is believed to be No 1 on his list despite looking out of sorts since his move to Inter this summer.
Boss Fabio Capello is a known admirer of the combative ace, trying to sign him for old club Roma on more than one occasion.
Davids left Juventus last summer on a free transfer after spending the last six months of his Turin contract on loan at Barcelona.
Should Inter reject Juventus’ approach, the Bianconeri could make enquiries about another Inter player who Capello knows from his Roma days, Cristiano Zanetti.
However, the main stumbling block over either proposed move seems to be the poor relations between the two Serie A giants.
Meanwhile, Juve’s attempts to sign Javier Mascherano from River Plate also seem to have run into trouble.
According to some sources, the talented 20-year-old has already reached an agreement with Corinthians, but is likely to stay in Buenos Aires until the summer in any case.

Del Piero offered Palermo path
Thursday 20 January, 2005
Ambitious Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini is reportedly chasing Juventus idol Alessandro Del Piero.
The Rosaneri chief has long admired the Turin talisman, who has recently been relegated to the bench following David Trezeguet’s return from injury.
A number of clubs have tried to tempt the Italian international away from Turin before but none have succeeded.
However, an exit could be on the horizon given that Del Piero’s place in the starting line-up has never been more in doubt.
Meanwhile, another Bianconeri player could be heading for La Liga after Mark Iuliano joined Majorca this week.
Midfielder Stephen Appiah is being touted as an exchange player in a possible deal for Pablo Ibanez, Atletico Madrid’s 23-year-old centre-half.
The Old Lady also offloaded defender Nicola Legrottaglie to Bologna on Tuesday, which may pave the way for the arrival of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Diego Placente.
Elsewhere in the transfer market, Parma’s reserve ‘keeper Gianluca Berti has signed for Serie B side Torino.
The move may come as a surprise to current shot stopper Stefano Sorrentino, who signed a contract extension only yesterday.
Chievo have confirmed the sale of midfielder Ivone De Franceschi, who passes to Serie C outfit Padova.

Maybe if he is willing to switch his role he will be able to return from the bench and enjoy first team action again. Of course the manager must allow such arrangement first.

dun think Alex will levae us cos he's considered the golden boy of the old lady :)

Well most soccer players dont have much loyalty for the club and if they see a better deal elsewhere, it is most likely they will leave the current team to join the new club. Despite of what the previous club had done for him.

Juventus 2 - 0 Brescia
Trezeguet 12 (J), Domizzi og 43 (J)
David Trezeguet has settled right back into his stride to extend Juve's lead at the top of the table, but this match was overshadowed by an injury to Pavel Nedved.
The pressure was back on the Bianconeri after their 1-1 draw away to Cagliari last week. Alessandro Del Piero was expected to give Zlatan Ibrahimovic a rest, but for the second week running the Juve captain was left on the bench, while Gianluca Pessotto replaced the injured Gianluca Zambrotta.
Fabio Capello marked the 400th Serie A match of his Coaching career and was nearly given a goal after 40 seconds when David Trezeguet took advantage of Gigi Di Biagio's defensive howler, only to fire wide.
The Frenchman eventually hit the back of the net after 12 minutes when he was at full stretch to tap in a taut Ibrahimovic low cross from the right.
Brescia fought back and Gianluigi Buffon flew to make a fantastic save on Andrea Caracciolo's strike from the edge of the box following Jonathan Zebina's error.
Ibrahimovic somehow blasted over the bar from a promising position, then Mauro Camoranesi had a couple of good chances closed down.
Brescia could have equalised just before the break on the counter-attack, but Mannini was unable to get his pass through to the unmarked Caracciolo after the Juve players were caught ball-watching.
Caracciolo dribbled past three players and had his final shot charged down by Lilian Thuram's elbow, but the referee judged it to be involuntary.
However, just as Brescia were pouring on the pressure, Juventus doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Ibrahmovic ran riot down the left flank and cut in for Trezeguet's tap-in, though Maurizio Domizzi probably got the final touch.
Castellazzi did well to parry a Pavel Nedved piledriver in the second half, but once again Buffon was called into a desperate intervention to pluck Mannini's cross off Caracciolo's feet.
There was bad news for Juventus on 71 minutes as Nedved accidentally hit his left knee on Milanetto's leg, a very similar incident to the one that caused a serious injury during Euro 2004. The Czech international was stretchered off in tears and it could be a long lay-off for the former European Player of the Year.
Trezeguet, Ibrahimovic and Olivier Kapo wasted good chances to further extend Juve's advantage.
Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Cannavaro, Thuram, Pessotto (Birindelli 46); Camoranesi, Emerson (Olivera 53), Blasi, Nedved (Kapo 72); Ibrahimovic, Trezeguet
Brescia: Castellazzi; Zambelli (Zambrella 65), Di Biagio, Adani (Mareco 46); Domizzi, Stankevicius, Guana (Sculli 56), Milanetto, Mannini, Dallamano; Caracciolo

Juventus veteran Paolo Montero could be set for a switch to Cagliari, while Roberto Muzzi
Juve are already cutting down on their squad after selling Mark Iuliano to Real Majorca and loaning Nicola Legrottaglie out to Bologna.
Igor Tudor was expected to be the next out of Turin during the January transfer window, but the ageing Montero is another option as his contract expires at the end of the season.
He would relish Cagliari for the first team football and opportunity to play alongside fellow Uruguayans Nelson Abeijon and Diego Lopez.
In other transfer news, Lazio forward Roberto Muzzi’s time in the Capital seems to be at an end after he was pushed out by Paolo Di Canio and new arrival Fabio Bazzani.
His agent confirmed contact with Fiorentina and Bologna, but it is now reported that Carlo Mazzone’s side is leading the way.
The main sticking point would appear to be the length of the contract, as Bologna are only offering one year whereas Muzzi would demand two.

Del Piero to Old Trafford?
By David Hobbs - January 23 2005
Alessandro Del Piero's agent has revealed that Manchester United, along with a number of other clubs from across the globe, are interested in his client's signature when the forward decides to leave current club Juventus. The 30-year old has been capped over 60 times for his country, Italy.
Del Piero to Old Trafford?
The agent of Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero has revealed that Manchester United, along with a number of other clubs from across the globe, are interested in his client's signature when the forward decides to leave current club Juventus.
Football legend Del Piero has been reported to have had rows with Juve over his contract and may demand a move away from Turin, and according to his agent, Old Trafford is a possible destination for the 30-year old
"When his contract expires, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United are first in the queue, followed by a number of Japanese clubs," confirmed the agent.
However, the Red Devils' contract policy of not offering contracts over 1-year in length to players over 30 may hamper such a deal. This has effected contract situations with Ryan Giggs before, who may be used as bait in a future deal
With current striking talent at the Del Alpi including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Trezeguet, Zalayeta, Kapo and the future arrival of Adrian Mutu, a place in the Serie A leader's team becomes increasingly unlikely.

Sometime for a player it is much better if he is willing to try playing in various position and be more flexible. Dont just stick to a fix position throughout his whole career. Someone who is able to play in many positions will be more favourable by the manager as it show the player is more capable and useful. This makes the player more valuable. Like Figo can play in any part of the midfield which is good.

Nedved out for up to three weeks
MILAN, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved faces up to three weeks out with a knee injury, which might rule him out of next month's Champions League match with Real Madrid.
Czech Nedved picked up the injury in Sunday's 2-0 win over Brescia which helped Juventus move five points clear at the top of Serie A.
Juventus said on Monday that Nedved had suffered heavy bruising to his left knee and would need '15 to 20 days'' recovery time.
Fabio Capello's side face Real Madrid in Spain on February 22 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.

Atalanta 1 - 2 Juventus
Olivera 23 (J), Del Piero pen 79 (J), Thuram og 91 (A)
Stadio Azzurri d'Italia
Substitute Alessandro Del Piero came off the bench to score the winning goal as Juventus further extend their lead at the top of the table.
Atalanta may be propping up the Serie A table, but they had already eliminated Juventus from the Coppa Italia earlier this month in a shock 5-3 aggregate result. Young striker Andrea Lazzari netted all five of the Orobici goals and tried to continue that trend in the League, replacing the suspended Riccardo Montolivo.
The Bianconeri were forced to reshuffle their midfield as Pavel Nedved was out for three weeks with a sprained knee, while Manuele Blasi was suspended and Alessio Tacchinardi and Emerson not 100 per cent fit. Alessandro Del Piero was dropped from the starting eleven for the third week running.
Igor Budan had a good scoring opportunity after a couple of minutes, but the Atalanta striker was halted for a debatable offside position when he had only Gianluigi Buffon to beat.
Alex Calderoni was surprisingly given the nod in goal and flew to fingertip David Trezeguet's long-range effort over the bar.
The Orobici had a good start, but were forced to do without Budan when he limped off after 20 minutes, giving former Modena and Genoa striker Makinwa his Atalanta debut.
However, the Bianconeri took the lead on 23 minutes with a classic counter-attack. Emerson threaded through for Ruben Olivera and the Uruguayan saw Calderoni rushing off his line, placing a delicate lob into the empty net.
Atalanta aimed long-range efforts at Buffon's net and he did well to smother a Motta cross-shot.
Fabio Cannavaro nodded a Mauro German Camoranesi cross over the bar, then Alessandro Del Piero stepped on to the field for the final half-hour in place of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Emerson drilled just wide from the edge of the box, then Luigi Sala fired over for Atalanta.
The referee pointed to the spot when Motta was judged to have pulled back Camoranesi and Del Piero got himself back on the scoresheet by converting the penalty.
However, Juve conceded a very strange goal in the final minute that was perhaps down to the frozen pitch. Lilian Thuram's backpass rolled over Buffon's foot and into the empty net in a comical error.
Atalanta: Calderoni, Motta, Sala, Natali, Bellini, Zenoni (Sinigaglia 78), Migliaccio, Bernardini (Mingazzini 46), Marcolini, Lazzari, Budan (Makinwa 20)
Juventus: Buffon, Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta (Kapo 87), Camoranesi, Tacchinardi, Emerson, Olivera (Birindelli 73), Ibrahimovic (Del Piero 60), Trezeguet

Out-of-favour forward Alessandro Del Piero came off the bench to score the decisive second goal for Juventus in a 2-1 win over Atalanta that extends their lead at the top of Serie A.
The 30-year-old club captain was again left out of the starting line-up by coach Fabio Capello but he netted a penalty in a 30-minute cameo, adding to a first-half strike from Ruben Olivera.
Lilian Thuram's late own goal was academic but it was symptomatic of a Juve side that made heavy weather of beating the league's bottom club.
But the victory, coupled with AC Milan's second straight defeat, has left the Bianconeri eight points clear in the race for the Scudetto.
As with many of the pacesetters' performances this season, they were far from commanding at the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.
But they were able to capitalise on mistakes from their hosts and, despite the late own goal, did enough to take the three points.
With Del Piero benched, Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic lined up alongside David Trezeguet up front.
And it was the France striker who had the first chance of the game, forcing Alex Calderoni into a fine save after he met a dangerous Mauro Camoranesi cross.
Atalanta then suffered a hammer blow when Igor Budan, one of their most influential performers this season, had to be taken off in the 17th minute.
And it didn't take the ruthlessly efficient visitors long to capitalise.
Emerson lofted the ball over the Atalanta back line and midfielder Olivera, handed a rare start by Capello, slipped the ball under the on-rushing Calderoni to put Juve into a 23rd-minute lead.
Atalanta, who had employed physical tactics in an attempt to unsettle their illustrious opponents, immediately hit back and Antonio Bernardini's powerful free-kick skimmed the bar.
Camoranesi then linked with Trezeguet again, only for the off-balance frontman to head over as Juve saw their lead out to the break.
The second half was less of an open affair as Juve, the masters of the 1-0 win, sought to protect their advantage.
Centre-back Fabio Cannavaro met Camoranesi's floated corner with a wayward header in the 56th minute.
With time ticking away, Thuram's headed clearance from a Nicola Mingazzini whipped cross was met by Andrea Lazzari but his volley flew over.
The lively Camoranesi almost conjured up Juve's second but Del Piero, who had replaced the below-par Ibrahimovic, headed narrowly past the upright.
But the visiting number 10 was not be denied and he struck his eighth of the season from the spot after 80 minutes after referee Pierluigi Collina gave handball against Marco Motta.
In the first minute of stoppage time, Atalanta were gifted a comical consolation when Gianluigi Buffon failed to collect Thuram's back pass and the ball rolled into an empty net.
While Juve march on, the 12th defeat of the season for Atalanta has left them marooned at the bottom.

I dont see any reasons why Juventus cant win Series A this season, moving 8 points clear at the top of the table will greatly increase their chance. AC Milan pace sort of slow down and cant catch up soon. Heard that Shevchenko is out injured together with Inzaghi. Their strike force will have some problems. If the current good form of Juventus continues no doubt they will be champion. However i urge Juventus still dont be over confidence yet. The season continues......

Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has revealed the Bianconeri are interested in Verona starlet Valon Behrami.
The Albanian has been doing extremely well with the Serie B outfit this season, and many clubs including the mighty Old Lady of Italian football have set their sights on him.
“We are interested in him, I can’t deny it. We have been following him for a while now, and are considering buying his other half and then loaning him out to Palermo. Anyways, these are things that regard next season,” said ‘Big Luciano’.
