Very entertaing and thrilling match indeed, but still not what I was looking for after the Roma defeat. Our defence was exposed yet again, even against a 10 man Inter. I appreciate the goals being scored by Tudor and Del Piero though as it was completely hard to score with many players blocking the way in front of Fontana.
I was confident going through the penalties since we had more attacking players than Inter in the field (DP-Treze-Nedved-Miccoli), and the trio mentioned first started from the second half and thus were lest tired. Vieri was clealry exhausted as he hardly moved during the extra time period.
Tactically, Juve were the better team as well. Inter looked lost most of the time and played without a clear scheme. Inter's substitutions were also wierd as Van Der Myede was substitued in (Cana) and then out (Emre) again. That left Zac with no other options going towards the end of the match.
I think this win and the final birth in the Coppa Italia could be a turning point for us and hopfully things will turn better in Serie A too.
Juve's best player: Enzo Maresca. It's not easy to emmulate Nedved in the first half successfuly, and then Tacchi in the second. But Enzo did the job with great fashion. Well Done !!
(Even though Del Piero scored a goal and cleared Adani's header off the line, but still he was slow and his passes were soft).
Juve's worst player: Couldn't find anyone but I think Trezeguet wasn't involved much.
Inter's best player: Adriano. Everytime he touched the ball he was dangerous. But thanks to our one man advantage we were able to contain him. J. Zanetti is a close second as he commanded Inter's defence superbly.
Inter's worst player: Van Der Myede. Didn't add anything to Inter's cause and wasted 2 substitutions from Zac. A close second is Farinos for his terrible marking on Del Piero's goal, and also weak midfield.
Silver star? Why not.

Marcello Lippi insists that Juventus deserved to reach the Coppa Italia Final after their shoot-out win against Inter.
"It was an excellent game," he stated after the 2-2 draw. "We had the misfortune of going behind early on but we were always in control of the match.
"We were dominating but Inter managed to equalise in the closing seconds to take it into extra-time. But our performance deserved qualification."
Lippi?s views mirror the reality of the game even if Inter were unlucky, especially as they hit the woodwork twice and they were denied what looked like a penalty on Emre.
"I have little to say," said a clearly disappointed Alberto Zaccheroni. "We were without defenders and playing with 10 men after Cordoba was sent-off.
"I?m very discontented because the side was doing well after we lost Fabio Cannavaro with injury so soon into the game. It was a shame."
Was he expecting this kind of performance from Juventus who were destroyed 4-0 at the Olimpico against Roma on Sunday?
"I expected them to play how they did play," he added. "The referee? I never comment on their performances."
Italian champions Juventus will now face Lazio in the two-legged finals which will be played in March and May.
The capital outfit qualified after they beat Milan 4-0 on Wednesday to ensure a 6-1 aggregate victory.

Serie A Week 21 - 15/2/04 (20.30)
Juventus - Reggina Preview
Delayed Telecast on Ch 21, 16 Feb, Mon @ 10:00pm
Stadio Delle Alpi
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus will need a show of force to put the 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Roma behind them, but Reggina won’t want to be lambs to the slaughter again.
The Bianconeri suffered their worst Serie A defeat in a decade when hammered in the Stadio Olimpico last Sunday night. Alessandro Del Piero was in the stands after suffering a muscular problem which tests later showed to be a minor twinge, so the captain should be back in the starting line-up to partner the ineffectual David Trezeguet.
The defence has been the real weak point of their campaign so far and is further hampered by the ban for Paolo Montero – who saw red at the Olimpico – while Mark Iuliano and Alessandro Birindelli are injured. 37-year-old Ciro Ferrara is recalled to make the difference, while Antonio Conte looks set to retain his spot in midfield.
Marcello Lippi insists that Juve’s Scudetto challenge is not over, but with eight points dividing them from leaders Milan it will take a remarkable string of results to turn this around. Morale is at an all time low and what they need now is a confident victory to get them back on track.
Reggina know this situation all too well, having come up against an Inter side in a similar situation and suffering a 6-0 drubbing as a result. Coach Giancarlo Camolese is already dealing with the aftermath of their disappointing 0-0 draw with ten-man Brescia last week, so the situation is extremely delicate.
Former Juve midfielder Davide Baiocco will not step back into the Delle Alpi due to a suspension, while David Di Michele and Paredes are probably out with injuries. Japanese international Shunsuke Nakamura would have been set for a rare start, but he has been called back to his homeland for a World Cup qualifier. Roberto Stellone, Gianluca Comotto, Stefano Torrisi and Giandomenico Mesto step in to the side, while Emiliano Bonazzoli is hoping to end his goal drought.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus (probable): Buffon; Thuram, Ferrara, Tudor, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Tacchinardi, Conte; Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet
Reggina (probable): Belardi; Comotto, Torrisi, Franceschini; Mesto, Mozart, Tedesco, Falsini; Cozza; Stellone, Bonazzoli

Juventus and Rangers are among clubs monitoring Javier Saviola's situation at Barcelona.
The Argentine's future at the Nou Camp is on shaky ground after it emerged that he is still to organise his qualification for a European passport.
Saviola's bid for a Spanish passport has been rejected, but there remains a possibility he could qualify for Italian papers.
However, AS says the striker's representatives are reluctant to push it through as they're disappointed at the lack of support Barca's board have shown the youngster in recent months.
It's reported that Barca would rather sell Saviola in the summer than see the striker gain his EU passport, as that would trigger a clause in his contract earning him a massive £650,000 bonus.

The youngster is a target for both clubs, though Milan's £3.5 million offer is far greater than what Juve have so far brought to the table.
Despite their massive cash problems, Parma are willing to wait as they are convinced Premiership and La Liga clubs will also join the auction as the summer transfer window draws closer.

"I know that Juve have followed me for a long time and of course I am flattered. It's a great satisfaction, though nothing will be decided until the end of the season.
"But of course it would be great to play in Italy."

Juve?s Coppa Italia victory over Inter may have been tainted by controversy, but Alessandro Del Piero maintains it was proof of their character.
?It was a difficult Nerazzurri side to encounter,? he noted on his official website, ?but in the end we had that little bit extra to reach an important objective.?
?We knew that it was a very important match and that we needed character, pride and clinical finishing.?
The Bianconeri drew 4-4 on aggregate and eventually won a penalty shoot-out to set up a Coppa Final date with Lazio.
That 2-2 draw at the San Siro saw Del Piero make his comeback after missing out on the 4-0 defeat to Roma with a slight muscular problem. The captain pushed critics aside by scoring a decisive goal and performing an extra time goalline clearance.
?It always pays to keep a cool head in difficult situations,? continued the Italian international.
?Despite conceding an early goal from Adriano, we reacted immediately and dominated the play.?
?This was a test for Juventus and I have to say we passed it with flying colours in terms of our approach and concentration. Now we must think of our Serie A match with Reggina and the Champions? League.?
Juventus are under fire for the refereeing decisions that played a large part in their Coppa Italia triumph, but that is not the only controversy surrounding the club.
Director General Luciano Moggi has been charged by the Disciplinary Commission for telling the press that he had signed a pre-contract agreement with Dejan Stankovic before Christmas.
The claims held up the Lazio man?s planned move to Inter until the final day of the January transfer window amid fears of a suspension.
An inquiry was opened into the affair and it has now emerged that Stankovic did not sign official paperwork with the Bianconeri.

aiyah...sad to hear dat we might be selling big.. :(
For the first time in seven years Juventus have failed to make a profit, but they continue to accuse other clubs of failing to play by the rules.
?The competitions are not legal,? insisted administrator Antonio Giraudo. ?Some clubs are not sticking by the rules and those who cannot afford to pay their players should not be allowed to compete.?
The statement is clearly aimed at second placed Roma ? who have only recently paid wages up to and including June 2003 ? and Lazio.
However, for the first time in seven years the Turin giants have failed to make a profit at the end of the financial year.
?After all this time we can afford a slight slip,? insisted Giraudo in an interview with ?La Stampa? newspaper.
?We have always been competitive and will continue to be at the top of Italian football. In any case, we plan to cut costs by a further 10 per cent next year.?
It has been suggested that this financial hiccup could push Juve to sell ageing top stars such as Pavel Nedved.
?I predict few major moves,? added the director, ?and a lot of swop deals in the current climate.?
?Juventus must remember that it has an extraordinary youth system at its disposal and the club must make the most of that.?

Marcello Lippi insists that Juventus can still aim for all three trophies and dismissed Inter?s Coppa complaints.
?After the collapse at Roma,? he noted of their 4-0 defeat, ?we all sat down and discussed why there were so many peaks and troughs in our performance. I can guarantee that this won?t happen again.?
The Bianconeri got back on track in controversial fashion with an explosive Coppa Italia semi-final win over Inter.
?We are entirely accustomed to controversy in the press about us,? he smiled. ?It goes in one ear and out the other.?
Emilio Pellegrino?s refereeing was not the only headline grabber this week, as Lippi also lambasted Francesco Totti for teasing his players during the 4-0 victory.
?I have said what I wanted to say,? he added. ?Juventus answer their critics on the field of play and we proved that this side is still alive and kicking.?
The reigning Italian Champions are now the only team still in the running for the Scudetto, Champions? League and Coppa Italia.
?We know that we are strong and very competitive. I can assure you that Juventus have no intention of giving in on any objective.?
The Serie A title is perhaps beyond them now that Juve are eight points adrift of Milan, but Lippi?s men will be expected to beat Reggina this evening.
?Giancarlo Camolese will be particularly fired up as he has a good record against us from his Torino days,? warned the Coach. ?Nonetheless, we hope to cut that trend short.?
The Bianconeri will be without the injured David Trezeguet, Mauro German Camoranesi, Igor Tudor, Alessandro Birindelli and suspended Paolo Montero.

Juventus chief Antonio Giraudo has played down talk of a crisis after Marcello Lippi's team recent poor domestic run.
General manager Luciano Moggi declared last week that he was actively seeking to "upgrade" the squad for next season and Giraudo also said yesterday: "The club is solid, the club will always be competitive.
"At the moment we are more than ever reliable on our experienced players, but we want to strengthen our younger division.
"The drop in finances from the Champions League has had an affect, but we hope to readjust the accounts through television contracts, the advantage we have from Juve World and the new stadium - which will come from the proceeds of the Champions League."

Juventus 1 - 0 Reggina
Maresca 50 (J)
Stadio Delle Alpi
Juventus cut the gap from the leaders to just six points after Enzo Maresca sealed a tight win over Reggina.
Juve needed a show of force after their 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Roma, while there was a great deal of controversy surrounding their Coppa Italia semi-final win against Inter midweek.
David Trezeguet and Mauro German Camoranesi are out injured, while Paolo Montero is suspended. Marco Di Vaio stepped in to partner Alessandro Del Piero, who missed the Roma game with a minor thigh problem.
Reggina also had problems, as David Di Michele is sidelined with Shunsuke Nakamura away on international duty in Japan. Former Napoli man Roberto Stellone partnered Emiliano Bonazzoli for the visiting team. It was a special moment for ex-Torino Coach Giancarlo Camolese, who had never previously lost to Marcello Lippi's side.
The first scoring opportunity was created by Reggina after two minutes when Gianluigi Buffon scrambled a save on Francesco Cozza's fierce free kick.
Juve hit back with Nicola Legrottaglie nodding a corner kick over the bar from eight yards.
The Bianconeri thought they had opened the scoring when Enzo Maresca skipped past two defenders and only had the goalkeeper to beat, but the former Piacenza man incredibly fired wide of the near post.
Del Piero's intelligent flick found Di Vaio in the area, but the attentive Reggina defence managed to close him down before he could squeeze in a shot.
The captain went for goal himself on 35 minutes with a fierce drive that skimmed the near post.
But Reggina had the best chance of the first half when Roberto Stellone took the ball off Lilian Thuram and passed across for the unmarked Cozza, but Buffon stood his ground and performed a stunning reaction block to prevent the Amaranto captain scoring.
Moments later there was another controversial incident, as Del Piero's diving header on a Nedved shot hit the back of the net. The referee disallowed it and booked the Italian international for a handling offence, but replays left an element of doubt as to how much contact - if any - his hand made with the ball.
Juve finally broke the deadlock on 50 minutes, but it was a very scrappy goal indeed. Emanuele Belardi bravely came out to smother Di Vaio's shot, but the ball rolled out to Maresca and his effort went in off the upright.
That boosted their confidence and Belardi did well to fingertip a curling Del Piero free kick over the bar, then blocked Legrottaglie's effort from the resulting corner.
However, those defensive problems reared their ugly heads once again when Thuram and Legrottaglie both left the ball and Buffon threw himself at Cozza's feet to prevent an equaliser.
Substitute Fabrizio Miccoli's angled drive tested Belardi at the near post, but Buffon was shaken by a Cozza volley from the edge of the box.
Del Piero had another attempt with his head on a splendid floated Pavel Nedved pass, but this time it just clipped the crossbar.
The captain was desperate for a goal and in stoppage time his splendid strike was fingertipped on to the crossbar by Belardi.
Juventus: Buffon; Pessotto (Ferrara 78), Thuram, Legrottaglie, Zambrotta; Conte, Tacchinardi, Maresca (Appiah 56), Nedved; Del Piero, Di Vaio (Miccoli 61)
Reggina: Belardi; Franceschini, Torrisi, Sottil; Comotto, Mesto, Tedesco, Falsini; Cozza; Stellone (Dall'Acqua 79), Bonazzoli

Men of the match - maresca and del piero.
maresca was the energy in the middle, always running forward, often further then nedved up the pitch. he played 120 mins against inter so he was going to be subbed, but shouldnt have been subbed as early as he was. lippi should have given him 10 mins more.
what i liked was when he scored he ran through everyone celebrating, everyone was clearly happy he scored, and he was pointing to ferrara. seems as though the old man is being a good role model.
when he was subbed there were quite alot of whistles at the decision from the crowd. MARESCA - A FANS FAVOURITE!
del piero really did play well. ran past players many times. hit the bar 3 times i think. the last time was amazing, so unlucky to hit the bar. should have been awarded a goal. had good discipline to take that yellow.
miccoli was also good when he came on. hes so energetic you can just see it on the pitch even when he hasnt got the ball. he should get first team football soon or this season will be pretty pointless, same for maresca.
everyone else was solid. amazing save by buffon. thuram did good in the centre[wise choice lippi] and legro had a decent game. a small mix up but what can you expect from the 2 central defs first game together. surprised by pessoto, he got forward a lot and was good. conte and tachinardi were quiet. nedved looked fustrated. di vaio shouldve made more.
but im happy with the result. a solid performance; reminds me of how we used to play a couple of seasons ago. 1-0!!

The Maresca and Del Piero dribbles are "thums up".
Maresca received a good pass from tachinardi and after that....when everyone though he was going to shoot,,,he dri bbled past the defender in a very fashionable way.. but sadly he missed and incredibly easy goal.
Del Piero received the ball... dribbled past a defender...he continued and when the other defender came..he did a fake leaving the deender on the ground and right away another dribble to the right. It looked nice because when the defender was standing..he didnt knew what happened and delpiero was already firing the ball....sadly it ended in the post.

Budding Asian players can look forward to learning the Juve style of soccer from coaches of Italy's most successful football club who will swing by this part of the world in May/June to spread their gospel of the beautiful game.
And unlike other top European teams, Juventus will be in Asia for the long term and not just fly over for a game or two to make a quick buck.
In an announcement to the Asian media in the Juventus headquarters in Turin, Italy on Feb 2, marketing director of Juventus Romy Gai said the full coaching staff of Juventus will tour China, Japan and one country in South-East Asia in late May/early June.
"We will be deciding on the South East Asian destination soon. This tour by the coaches will pave the way to a trip by the full Juventus team in the summer of 2005 to play with Asian teams. We want to be part of the development of football in Asia and not just play there. This approach is new and has not been done by any other club," he said.
Juve will be working in tandem with Nike, the club's technical sponsor, to spread the Juve way of football globally.
During the coaches' tour, the training staff will help to develop a system of football academies in Asia to promote football.
"We will meet with players and Asian countries and hold training sessions to promote Juve's approach to the game and help them grow with us and at the same time promoting the Juventus brand," Gai said.
In the 12-year contract with Nike signed in November 2001, licensing, merchandising and retailing will be handled by Juventus Merchandising, wholly-owned company of the Nike group.
General manager of Juventus Merchandising, Eno Polo, said his objective is to make Nike the leading football brand by 2006.
"We work with the best teams and Juventus is one of top clubs in the world. Like our deal with Manchester United, we are partners with Juventus to promote it as a global brand. Juventus kits were launched last July and appeared in 170 windows all over Italy and there was a lot of PR activity. When Juventus when to New York, they played Barcelona and a supercup match against Milan.
Juventus Merchandising will help Juventus grow their brand and Nike to sell merchandise. The company is housed in the Juventus headquarters. It is a real joint venure.
As for licensing, everything with the Nike logo is by Nike and everything with the Juventus logo without the Nike logo is by Juventus Merchandising. We now have 60 companies working with us making all sorts of souvenirs, like neckties, key chains and clocks.
We are working with Asian partners to create a concept of brand image and we want to diversify the range of products to cater to all types of consumers."
When Juventus Merchandising started operations, they found out that there was a problem with distribution and the fans did not know where to buy the products.
"Since then, we have opened Juventus stores in Turin (on the upmarket and popular Via Garibaldi shopping street) and Tokyo. There are also Juventus shops, which are semi-permanent, at the stadium and summer village where 35,000 fans turn up to watch the team train for two weeks. The online store is already in operation and we will set up Juventus corners in some sports shops. This will take off first in Italy and then Tokyo and later South East Asia.
We have improved the online shopping website and on the opening day, there were 10,000 visitors and the server crashed and the news was published in some newspapers."
Polo added that Juventus merchandising will push forward with soccer education in the form of a Juventus University, academies and summer camps.
"The Juventus university will open in June and it will train coaches to play the Juve way. Before summer camps can start, the coaches must be trained the Juve way so that 10-12 year olds will learn discipline, technical and tactical methods, and the history of the club.
Academies will open in September and kids will participate twice a week to train to be future pros. Sixty academies will open all over Italy that will be coached by Juventus-trained staff. The academies will be extended to Canada then to Asia.
During summer there will be camps for kids to play football for fun and learn more about the game. THe first to be run by Nike and Juventus will start in mid-June in the mountains near Turin. In the summer of 2005, these camps will be extended to Asia and other parts of Italy."
Gai said the first official game with the Nike shirt was in New York in the Italian supercup match (against milan) which Juve won (on penalties) and "we need to continue the same way"
He added: "juve are the most profitable team in Italy. We have 13 million fans in Italy and a 41% market share. No other team in Europe has that much market share in their own country.
Our fans are everywhere in Italy and there are more Juve fans in the Milan region than in Turin. That's why sometimes difficult to have a full stadium. As for regional market share, we are always the first or second team in any region in Italy.
In Europe, we have the best balance of female (46%) and male (54%) fans. We have 8 million fans in the UK, France, Germany and Spain. We increased that by 17% in the last two years. We have 3 million fans in East Europe probably because Nedved (who is from Czech Republic) is playing with us. We are number one in west Europe, ahead of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona or Milan.
We know taht football is popular in China. We have awareness of 56% and 76% of football fans watch Juve matches. In Japan football is the second sport behind baseball. Juve have awareness of 10% which is equal to the leading Japanese team and 30% of those interested in football watch Juve matches. Therefore we have global impact and we expect the figures to increase. Surfers from three Asian countries- Japan, Indonesia and China- are the highest users of Juventus.com"
Vice president of Juventus Roberto bettega said the following the tie up with Nike, Juventus will be moving from "the little world of ours" to the big world of global market.
The end.

revamp is going to start during summer 2004. The track is going to be taken out and the seats will be brought closer to the pitch.
the capacity is going to be reduced drastically...to 40,000 :(
and the works will be finished by May 2005
The project also includes the building of shops, restaurants, movie theaters etc around the stadium..
sounds like arsenal, the project cost too much $, need to tighten the belt in transfer market?
anyway 40,000 capacity will be enough, most of the turin people support torino. u can see so many empty seats for juve matches...

Opinion: The best and the rest (Week 21)
The best…
Enzo Maresca (Juventus)
The young Italian wins our praise this week for his performances against Inter in the Coppa Italia and against Reggina where he scored the only goal. He’s a complete player - he has great technique and determination. It’s a shame that he plays so rarely for the Old Lady.
Martin Jorgensen (Udinese)
Why Jorgensen is still at a provincial side like Udinese remains a mystery of life. He was superb against Inter at the San Siro as his side collected a stunning 2-1 victory. Inter themselves have been linked with him in the past but they’ve always opted for other wingers who have since disappeared. He’s a great player.
Javier Chevanton (Lecce)
He’s a jewel who would make a massive mistake if he joined a big club. After all, if Marco Di Vaio sits on the bench at Juventus, what is Chevanton going to get up to? He’s a classic King of the Provinces who was immense against Milan yesterday. He caused the Rossoneri defence real problems with his pace and netted a wonderful free-kick.
The rest…
Alvaro Recoba (Inter)
The Uruguayan’s revival seems to have already come to an end. He played just 45 minutes against Udinese because boss Alberto Zaccheroni claimed: "He couldn’t find the right position." Recoba’s been looking for that since 1997 – a few good performances of late shouldn’t cloud that fact.
Coach Alberto Zaccheroni (Inter)
We usually let Coach’s off the hook but not this time. These are not happy moments for Zac who needs to realise that playing 3-4-3 is not always the answer. Where is the sense in fielding Thomas Helveg in the centre of defence? Considering his team played extra time in the Cup on Thursday, maybe a 4-4-2 would have been safer against a talented Udinese.
Paolo Maldini (Milan)
Maldini is reprimanded this week for the unnecessary fuss surrounding his yellow card against Lecce. Yes he will miss the derby but it isn’t as if Milan’s season depends on the result next week. There wasn’t this much chaos when Juve’s Pavel Nedved was booked in the Champions’ League semi-final against Real last season.

02/15/2004. Brazilian Fabio Rochemback of Sporting Lisbon is being followed by Italian giants Juventus.
This news has been reported today on Portughuese newspapers as Juventus scouts were spotted on Friday night in Portugal to follow the 22-year-old Brazilian.
Rochemback is on loan with Sporting Lisbon from Barcelona, and Juventus might use the Davids card to obtain the midfielder directly from the Spanish club.

Juventus are back on the Scudetto trail but Lilian Thuram admits his side are still not at their best.
The Bianconeri beat Reggina 1-0 last night to close the gap on Roma and Milan but the Frenchman says it was tough.
"We are not playing great football at this moment in time and we did have our difficulties against Reggina too," he added.
"Fortunately the three points have helped our morale after the 4-0 defeat we suffered at Roma last week."
The Bianconeri were put on trial after that Olimpico display but showed signs of recovery with their Coppa Italia victory at Inter on Thursday.
"I think the win at Milan in the week may have been significant," he added. "We are slowly picking ourselves up."
Juventus were undoubtedly the big winners in Week 21 as Milan were held at Lecce and Roma failed to beat Ancona.
"That?s true but let?s not talk about that yet. We firstly need to start playing with determination and a better brand of football.
"We must continue to give our best in every game and just hope that the teams above us make a few errors."

Milan and Juventus are still in the chase to sign Jaap Stam despite Inter being in pole position.
The Lazio ace, 32, is set to leave the capital club at the end of the season and he?s set to join one of the big Italian three.
Stam, who is tied to the Olimpico outfit until 2005, does seem to prefer a move to Inter and the Nerazzurri are lining up a swoop.
Reports over the weekend suggested that they are ready to offer £11m for Stam and teammate Cesar at the end of this campaign.
Under-21 international Giovanni Pasquale may also be offered to the Biancocelesti as part of the deal.
That bid is likely to tempt the cash strapped outfit but Milan and Juventus are not about to throw in the towel.
Milan?s director general Ariedo Braida reportedly met Lazio officials recently where they discussed terms over a possible deal.
The European champions are set to offer around £5m but also include Fernando Redondo and Marco Borriello in the bid.
That just leaves Juventus who are only considered as outsiders at this moment in time having admitted they won?t go crazy on the transfer market.
The Italian champions are set to offer less cash but sacrifice a range of higher calibre players in a swap deal.
Reports suggest that Enzo Maresca, Mark Iuliano and Manuele Blasi, currently on loan at Parma, may be included in an agreement.

Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids has confirmed he would sign outright for Barcelona today if it was up to him.

"Hopefully it can happen, I could follow in the footsteps of Michael Laudrup after his time in Italy."
Davids added, "The players, the public, the people on the street... all deal with me very well; they show their affection to me and I have great desire to give it back to them."

The youngster was close to signing for Juve in January, but the Italian champs now face competition for the defender leading up to the summer market.
Manchester United representatives have been regular visitors to Parma in recent weeks and manager Sir Alex Ferguson is considering Ferrari, who is likely to be sold at the end of the season.
The revitalised PSV Eindhoven defender Kevin Hofland is also on Juve's shortlist. Like Ferrari, the Holland international is expected to be sold in the summer, though he would prefer a move to England.

02/16/2004. Sergio Marcon (Ancona)-Kept Ancona in the game throughout the first half with at least three fantastic saves. His life then became easier in the second when Roma's offense fell apart.
Pier Kroldrup (Udinese)-The main reason why both Adriano and Vieri were practically harmless against the Friuliani. Look out for him at EURO 2004.
Jaap Stam (Lazio)-The Dutchman capped off a perfect defensive performance with the freekick blast that sealed the game off.
Fabio Bilica (Ancona)-Booed by the home fans upon his entrance onto the pitch, applauded by the same tifosi at the final whistle.
Mark Bresciano (Parma)-His last gasp goal clinched three extremely vital points for his struggling club.
David Pizarro (Udinese)-He might just be what Inter are lacking in order to turn into a winning outfit again. He might, however, want to think twice before joining them.
Enzo Maresca (Juventus)-After playing magnificently at Inter last Thursday, the young Italian midfielder demonstrated once again he is destined to be this team's leader in the years to come.
Martin Jorgensen (Udinese)-Another fantastic match in the San Siro, another memorable win for the Friuliani.
Cristiano Doni (Sampdoria)-Slowly returning into the Doni we once knew.
Javier Chevanton (Lecce)-His free kick goal was just one of the many great things he did against the European champs.
Andriy Shevchenko (AC Milan)-His winning strike allowed AC Milan to pick up a precious point in a day it appeared the Rossoneri were doomed to capitulate.

hmm..and i tot Thuram play pretty well.
02/16/2004. Daniele Balli (Empoli)-Slow to react on all three of the strikes that turned into Lazio goals.
Anthony Seric (Parma)-In the day Bresciano won the game for the Emiliani, Parma's other Aussie was totally outplayed by Lazetic.
Salvatore Fresi (Perugia)-His poor defending was one of the main causes Perugia lost another game this season.
Lilian Thuram (Juventus)-Stellone's speed caused more than one problem to the Bianconeri's French international, who, like a certain Czech teammate of his, might be currently sparing some energies for the upcoming Champions League knock-out phase and especially for this summer's main event.
Junior (Siena)-Appeared to be on vacation against his former club.
Clarence Seedorf (AC Milan)-It is now two games that the Dutchman failed to live up to expectations. If Ancelotti had more choices at his disposal (ie. Ambrosini), the former Real Madrid star would probably spend more time on the bench.
Antonio Busce' (Empoli)-His disastrous match allowed Giannichedda and Liverani to dominate the midfield.
Francecso Cozza (Reggina)-Had a golden chance to get Reggina in-front at Juventus late in the first half, and blew it.
Dejan Stankovic (Inter)-Has anyone noticed Lazio have won three games in a row since the Serb star left?
Antonio Cassano (AS Roma)-Did everything right until the final move, touch, or pass, and Roma paid for this costly lack of concentration and determination on behalf of their Peter Pan.
Christian Vieri (Inter)-This season is going from bad to worse for the Nazionale's striker. Bad news for Trapattoni and all of the Azzurri fans.

Nedved: Juve could sell me
Wednesday 18 February, 2004
Juventus star Pavel Nedved has admitted that the Turin giants could decide to sell him in the future.
The Czech ace says he would like to end his career with the Bianconeri but he has revealed that his club may have different ideas.
"It is my objective to close my career with Juventus but they may decide that they don’t want me anymore next year," he stated.
"Nothing and nobody stands in the way of Juventus, a club that quite rightly looks closely at their financial situation.
"They’ve already sold Zinedine Zidane in the past and they could so the same with me. However, I am keen to honour my contract."
Nedved’s current deal expires in 2006 and it was his intention to retire from the game. Yet he also states that he may be tempted to carry on.
"I promised my wife that I would call it a day in 2006," he noted. "I may continue if she lets me."
Chelsea are known admirers of the former Lazio star who would fetch around £20m after his 2003 Golden Ball triumph.
Juve may be tempted to sell as the club expects to make a financial loss for the first time in seven years.
Meanwhile, Juventus have been boosted with the news that they will play the second leg of their Coppa Italia Final against Lazio in Turin.
The first leg takes place in Rome on March 17. The return is set for the Stadio Delle Alpi on May 12.

Juventus ace Pavel Nedved has hinted that he could play on beyond 2006 despite setting that date for his retirement.
The Czech Republic international had revealed earlier that he would hang up his boots in 2006 to spend more time with his family, but now he is considering playing on.
"My wife obliged me promising that in 2006, when I will be 32, I'd have to quit," said Nedved.
"And I promised. But then I know that the pitch will lack me, and probably she will tell me 'to go back playing'."
Meanwhile, Nedved has won yet another honour after being crowned the 2003 Czech Footballer of the Year for the third consecutive year.
The European Footballer of the Year and Italian Player of the Year revealed he would willingly give up his personal honours to help the Czech Republic win Euro 2004.
"I'd willingly barter my personal award if only for winning the European Championships in Portugal," Nedved added.
In other news, Juventus have loaned out Ukrainian striker Serhiy Kovalenko to Serie C2 club Lodigiani Calcio.

02/17/2004. Luciano Moggi is not the kind of man that gives up easily and Juventus reflects the spirit of the general manager. "I don't want to hear the fans saying that we have to change the players because we have won the last two championships, the Italian Supercup, we have won our group in the Champions league and we are going to play the final of the Coppa italia. The 4-0 defeat with Roma has waken us up and we are ready to fight for every trophy".

The 4-0 disaster at Roma has been a blessing in disguise for Juventus says director general Luciano Moggi.
The Bianconeri were totally outplayed by the Giallorossi in Week 20 but Moggi insists it may have done the club some good.
"That defeat was a punch in the face that has woken us up," he stated. "We were heavily criticised and that has helped to stimulate us."
Juventus immediately hit back from that loss with a 1-0 victory over Reggina. A win that saw them close the gap on both Milan and Roma in the table.
And Moggi maintains that things are shaping out well for the Italian champions this season.
"We?ve won the last two titles," he added. "We lifted the Super Cup, we won our Champions? League group, we are in the Final of the Coppa Italia and we?re third in the League.
"This is a good time to be a Juventus supporter no matter what the critics say. We accept their comments because it spurs us on."

Bettega declared on this matter: "I think he was joking. Anyway, also I think that London is a great city and I go there often."

bologna has been playing well for the last few games. and beware nakata , he like to score against juve during his time at roma & parma  , we got to keep a close eye on him
another problem is that we will play deportivo in the coming week (besides munich & real match, we play the toughest opponent  ). it'll be difficult choice for lippi, should he he play the best players and risk having tired players against deportivo? whatever , i personally worry about deportivo more because this is a knock-out match and a victory is extremely necessary

Udinese ace Marek Jankulovski has admitted that he is dreaming of joining Italian champions Juventus.
The midfielder has been linked with a summer switch and he?s hoping that Juve give him a call.
"My future can still be Bianconero but in Turin," said the Czech international who will face Italy on Wednesday.
"If I could choose where to go then I would join Juventus so that I could play alongside my friend Pavel Nedved."
The former Napoli star is just one of many players to have caught the eye at Udinese in recent times.
The wide man is having another exceptional season in Serie A and a move does seem to be on the cards.
However, he is keen to concentrate on a few more immediate objectives with his club and country for now.
"I?m just focused on helping Udinese get into the UEFA Cup," he added. "Then I want to have a great European Championships before hopefully joining a big club."

the chances are high that juve will sell Nedved this summer for the sake of $, but are we certain that a replacement for Nedved will arrive?

GREAT NEWS!!
Juventus insist that Pavel Nedved will not be sold in the summer. While there are developments in their bid to sign Lucio.
Nedved?s future at the club is in doubt after he admitted this week that the champions could decide to sell him.
But Juve director general Luciano Moggi has since met with the player in order to clarify the situation.
"I had no doubts," Moggi is quoted as saying. "Nedved is happy at Juventus and he will end his career here. There is no space for Chelsea."
The former Lazio player had always insisted in the past that he would want to hang up his boots with the outfit in 2006.
Yet rumours escalated of a possible departure when it was revealed that Juve are set to make a financial loss for the first time in seven years.
And with the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona reportedly ready to offer £20m for the 31-year-old, Juve could have been tempted to cash in.
Meanwhile, after missing out on Lazio?s Jaap Stam, the Delle Alpi side risk losing Brazilian star Lucio to Chelsea.
His club Bayer Leverkusen claim that they have a verbal agreement with the Italian side over the stopper?s sale.
Yet Juve have apparently gone quiet and the German outfit are ready to do a deal with the Stamford Bridge club instead.

Alessandro Del Piero made an impressive return to the Italy squad and insists this strength in depth makes them Euro 2004 favourites.
?I think that Giovanni Trapattoni?s only problem this summer will be deciding between the myriad of options open to him,? noted the Juventus captain.
?The fact there are so many of us playing at the highest level, especially in attacking positions, can only be a good thing for the Coach of an international side.?
The Azzurri trio of Del Piero, Francesco Totti and Christian Vieri combined well during the first half of their 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic midweek, but there are several starlets jostling for places.
Antonio Cassano is expected to push into the side if he continues to shine for Roma, while Fabrizio Miccoli and Marco Di Vaio are impressing at Juve.
Casting an eye over the whole tournament, the experienced international sees three main contenders for the crown.
?The ones to watch will certainly be holders France,? continued Del Piero, ?but I would keep a close eye on the Czech Republic.?
?They are on fine form right now, have stars of the calibre of my friend Pavel Nedved and showed by twice fighting back for a 2-2 draw that they have a great deal of character. And don?t forget the Czechs are unbeaten in 19 games.?
Italy are said to be among the favourites for the tournament in Portugal, particularly after the draw placed them alongside Sweden, Bulgaria and Denmark.
?I wouldn?t say we had the easiest Group phase,? insisted the Bianconeri hero. ?There is always an outsider that surprises in these competitions and I see Bulgaria filling that role.?

Juventus legend John Charles has died at the age of 72 following a heart attack in his last trip to Italy.
The Welshman was still very much loved by all generations of football fans and became known as the ?Gentle Giant? after ending his career without a single booking or red card.
Charles had suffered from ill health in recent years and fell victim to an aneurysm in the aorta during his last trip to Italy in January, just before he was due to make an appearance on RAI television programme ?La Domenica Sportiva?.
He underwent two separate operations at Milan?s San Carlo Hospital, including emergency surgery to remove part of his right foot due to circulatory problems.
Juventus rushed to his aid and provided two of their medical staff and a private jet to fly him home to Britain, where he died in Wakefield in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The former Leeds United striker joined Juventus for a then record fee of £67,000 in 1957 and went on to score 93 goals in 155 games.
HHe formed a marvellous partnership with Giampiero Boniperti and Omar Sivori, becoming Capocannoniere in his first season with 28 strikes.
Charles helped the Bianconeri to three Scudetto titles and two Coppa Italia?s before joining Roma for the 1962-63 campaign.
He also starred for his country with 15 goals in 37 games, including the 1958 World Cup, while in recent years he was awarded the CBE and became Vice-President of the Welsh FA.

For the second of our Golden Greats Mario Risoli nominates John Charles, the first British-born player to make the grade in Italy and who - nearly forty years later - is still regarded as a super-hero.
Gentle Giant
John Charles, the footballer the Italians dubbed Il Gigante Buono - The Gentle Giant - holds a unique record. He?s the only British player to have been crowned Capocannoniere. The Welsh international forward topped the Italian scoring chart in 1957-58 ? his very first season in Italy with Juventus. That season Charles, one of several outstanding footballers to hail from Swansea, helped Juventus win their first Scudetto for six years. He was also named Italy?s Player of the Year.
Charles started as a centre-half with Leeds, but when Jack Charlton emerged he was thrown into attack and replied by scoring 30 goals in 1952-53. In his second season as a forward he struck 42 times, which is still a club record. The Turin giants paid Leeds United £65,000 for Charles? services - at the time a British record - and it was money well spent.
During his five years at the Stadio Comunale, Charles helped the Bianconeri win three League titles and two Italian Cups. In 150 appearances the steelworker?s son netted 93 goals, an outstanding tally considering how formidable Italian defences were in the late 50s and early 60s.
His partnership with the little Argentinian genius Omar Sivori was the most feared in Serie A. "We got together and it just happened. We gelled. It was a classic big man-small man partnership," says Charles, who now lives in West Yorkshire. "I settled in quite quickly. I didn?t get homesick. I think it was down to leaving Swansea for Leeds when I was 16. Going from Leeds to Italy was nothing in comparison. I learned to speak Italian as well. That was important because you?ve got to get on off the pitch as well as on it."
Before Charles? arrival La Vecchia Signora were in disarray, finishing ninth in 1956-57 - disastrous by their high standards. Milan, Inter and Fiorentina had overtaken them. "They brought in a few players, myself included, and we won the championship," recalls Charles. "To be honest, I never thought we?d win it in my first season."
Because of his scoring exploits and impeccable behaviour on the pitch, Charles became the idol of the Juventus tifosi and one of the most respected figures in world football. Il Gigante Buono won his first Coppa Italia in 1959, both Lo Scudetto and the Coppa Italia in 1960, and another Scudetto in 1961.
The 50s marked the beginning of the Serie A renaissance which has lasted to this day. Most of the world?s finest players plied their trade in Italy?s top Division, players like Sivori, Boniperti, Angelillo, Skoglund, Liedholm, Hamrin, Altafini and Schiaffino. But Charles stood head and shoulders above them all.
"They defended differently in Italy," adds Charles. "The defenders would mark you close, very close, I can assure you. They knew all the tricks. If you went for a corner one defender would step on your feet and another would pull your shirt. But there were some class defenders in Italy."
The Welshman had no problems with the strict regime imposed by Italian clubs and is seen as Britain?s finest soccer export. Other great British players - namely Jimmy Greaves, Denis Law and Joe Baker - tried their luck on the peninsula, but failed to adjust to the almost monastic lifestyle. "You?ve got to acclimatise," says Charles. "It?s no good going out there and hoping someone speaks English. You must learn the language. The big problem is homesickness, so you?ve got to put yourself about and meet people."
Financially, Charles did well playing in Italy. In British football the maximum wage ruled, but in Serie A the sky was the limit. "If I remember correctly, when I left Leeds I was getting paid £18 a week. I hadn?t heard of Juventus. I knew nothing about the place. But the money was a pull. The main thing was the signing-on fee - you got a nice signing-on fee. Then there were the bonuses. If we beat teams like Torino, Inter and Milan we would get £100, £200 maybe even £300."
Charles lived luxuriously in the hills overlooking Turin with his first wife Peggy and their three young sons - Terry, Melvyn and Peter. "I was looked on as a personality, like a film star," he smiles. "It was mad out there really. You?d go into the city and people would come up to you for autographs. They?d follow you as well, just to look at you. I didn?t mind - especially when it was attractive women!"
The Juventus side Charles played in was one of the most impressive ever to grace Serie A with Carlo Mattrel in goal, Corradi, Bruno Garzena and Ferrario in defence, Umberto Colombo, Flavio Emoli, Bruno Nicole and Giampiero Boniperti in midfield and Charles and Sivori in attack.
"I remember the derbies we had with Torino. They were phenomenal. Some people would say they didn?t mind us not winning the League as long as we beat Torino. One Sunday evening I heard these car horns outside my house. I went outside to see what was going on. They were Torino supporters flying their red flags. They wanted to congratulate me on beating their team. I thought that was wonderful."
But Charles never tasted European glory in Turin. At that time La Vecchia Signora failed to win the European Cup which seemed to be the exclusive property of Real Madrid. "Juventus didn?t worry about the European Cup. It was always Lo Scudetto. They liked to show how many titles they won."
Charles lost the fortune he made in Italy long ago. An expensive divorce and a succession of failed business ventures including a sports shop, a baby clothes shop and a pub were to blame.
Today he lives in Birkenshaw, a village on the outskirts of Leeds, with his second wife Glenda. For the last two years he has been fighting cancer of the bladder. He?s currently in remission after receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
"He goes into hospital every three months to have check-ups," says Glenda. "He?s just the same, no different. He?s not at death?s door and he?s not in any discomfort. We?ve got to cope with it. What can you do? The world doesn?t stop because we?ve been told John has cancer. We?ve got to carry on and live day by day."
In 1962, after five years in Turin, Charles decided to return to Leeds. Not even the offer of a £14,000 from Juve could change his mind. He wanted his children to be educated in Britain. He was also unhappy the club wouldn?t release him for international duty. Charles is the greatest player Wales has ever produced yet he was capped only 38 times, although Juve did release him for the 1958 World Cup.
But his return was as brief as it was unhappy. In October 1962 after just 11 appearances he returned to Italy with Roma, but he failed to repeat his Juventus form and in 1963 was sold to Cardiff City where he played as a centre-half. "Rome is a big, beautiful pace, but we couldn?t settle there," he explains. "I found the northern people friendlier than the Romans." Charles continued to play until 1971, as player-manager of Hereford United.
Of all the tributes directed at Charles perhaps the finest was by journalist Don Davies. According to him Charles was "as powerful as Hercules, as authoritative as Caesar." Few will argue with that.
John Charles moved to Italy in 1957 and made huge headlines in Britain. Kenneth Wolstenholme, involved in the dealings, gives his thoughts on the Gentle Giant
Charles the world?s best all-rounder
The question I am asked most about football is who is the best player I have ever seen. What a question. Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney, Alfredo Di Stefano, Pele, Ference Puskas, Raimon Kopa ? I could go on for a whole edition of Football Italia. But what do we mean by the best player? Do we mean the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder or striker? Surely the best player is someone who could perform equally brilliantly in more than one position, a player who could be a star defender and a fearsome striker.
The only player I know like that is the Gentle Giant from Swansea, John Charles, who plied his trade with Swansea City, Leeds United, Juventus and Roma. John began his career in the Football League as a centre back. He was a rock in that particular position. Tall, a brilliant header of the ball and a strong tackler. He soon attracted the attention of the big clubs and Leeds were the side lucky enough to sign him.
So successful was John in the English First Division that the big Italian clubs began show an interest in him. And in 1955 an agent called Gigi Peronace began became a regular at Elland Road, keeping an eye on Charles for Juventus.
But it wasn?t until 1957 that the big story broke. Juventus wanted Charles and on April 6 John met Peronace for the first time. He was told that Juventus were prepared to pay a large sum of money for his services and four days later Peronace was at Windsor Park, Belfast watching Wales, captained by Charles for the first time, play Northern Ireland. With him was Juventus President Umberto Agnelli. Eleven days later Leeds admitted that Juventus had made a bid and that they would not stand in the way of Charles if he wanted to move.
At the time I was managed by an astute gentleman called Edward Sommerfield. Others in the stable included Eamonn Andrews, Peter West and Harry Carpenter. What we didn?t know was that Edward had advised John Charles on some money making matters outside of football. And on April 17 I got a telephone message from Sommerfield to say he was leaving the next morning to go to Leeds and represent Charles in the discussions about the terms of his transfer and he wanted me to go along with him.
When Edward and I stepped off the train at Leeds a station porter came up and asked me not to let the Italian take our John to Italy. I had to explain that although Teddy was small and dark and could easily be mistaken for an Italian, he was in fact born in Warrington and had come North to ensure fair play for John. Reassured by that the porter took hold of our luggage and smuggled us into The Queens Hotel by the back entrance.
There waiting for us was Charles. All three of us were shown up to room 222, which was to be our headquarters and we were there from half past three until ten o?clock at night discussing every point we could think of. As usual Edward had done his homework. Working in close co-operation with lawyers and accountants, he had found out all about the cost of living in Italy. His contacts had also discovered what other Italian stars were being paid and he had obtained the complete rules of the Italian Federation. He also had with him a translation of the standard form of contract a player is expected to sign.
We had to wait patiently until the two clubs had reached an agreement, something they didn?t do at the first meeting. Then John was asked to meet Mr Agnelli, something he refused to do so without his advisors. What the Italians thought would be a short meeting lasted a full two hours. The Juve party was surprised we knew so much about the Italian set-up and it was in the early hours of the morning that a weary Umberto Agnelli was able to announce to the Press that an agreement had been reached.
So John Charles started the exodus from Britain to England, an exodus which has become a flood because so many players have thought that it is easy to go to Italy and earn easy money. But most of the Brits have failed because they did not follow the advice Charles was given by Edward and which he tried to pass on to the other British players toying with the idea of going to Italy. That advice was that a player will only succeed in Italy if he?s married and speaks Italian - John was married and learnt Italian.
John Charles became a hero in Turin. He was the finest stopper in Serie A and devastating in front of goal ? truly a great all-rounder.
STAR RATING 9/10 No player is perfect. But John Charles came close to it thanks to his unique ability to play as a natural goalscorer or rugged defender. Truly an all-time great.

David Trezeguet and Igor Tudor have not even been called up for tomorrow?s trip to the Stadio Dall?Ara.
Juventus got back into the Scudetto chase with their win over Reggina last week, but the upcoming Champions? League clash with Deportivo La Coruna will see several top stars rested.
Trezeguet has not played since picking up a muscular problem in the Coppa Italia semi-final at Inter, but has recovered and should start against the Spaniards on Wednesday.
Tudor has been struggling with a series of fitness worries, including a muscular problem during that same Cup tie.
Lippi admits he will use the rotation system to get the most out of his squad in this action-packed week, so Fabrizio Miccoli and Marco Di Vaio receive rare starts against Bologna.
Pavel Nedved and Alessandro Del Piero are likely to sit on the bench after playing a large part of the midweek international friendly between Italy and the Czech Republic.
Juventus squad: 1 Gianluigi Buffon, 2 Ciro Ferrara, 4 Paolo Montero, 7 Gianluca Pessotto, 8 Antonio Conte, 9 Fabrizio Miccoli, 10 Alessandro Del Piero, 11 Pavel Nedved, 12 Antonio Chimenti, 13 Mark Iuliano, 14 Enzo Maresca, 15 Alessandro Birindelli, 16 Mauro Camoranesi, 18 Stephen Appiah, 19 Gianluca Zambrotta, 20 Marco Di Vaio, 21 Lilian Thuram, 23 Nicola Legrottaglie

Bologna-Juventus
Stadio Dall'Ara
Juventus got back into the title chase with a slender win over Reggina last week, but will need to improve upon that performance to beat on form Bologna.
Marcello Lippi?s men have been grinding out results despite less than spectacular outings and face a tricky trip to the Stadio Dall?Ara. In fact, the Turin giants haven?t won here since May 2001?s confident 4-1 result, notching up two consecutive draws. Young midfielder Enzo Maresca netted the winner last Sunday and should be guaranteed a starting place in this squad, while David Trezeguet returns from a thigh problem to partner Alessandro Del Piero.
The defence has been their main worry so far this season and Paolo Montero returns from a one-match ban to bolster the back four, but Stephan Appiah steps in for the suspended Alessio Tacchinardi. Lippi must also prepare for the return of the Champions? League and there are suggestions he could rest Pavel Nedved.
Bologna held on for a draw against local rivals Modena despite playing for over an hour with ten men, so this is a determined and organised side that is not to be underestimated. Carlo Mazzone?s men really have turned a corner since Hidetoshi Nakata arrived on loan from Parma in January, notching up an impressive three wins, two draws and a defeat to leaders Milan in that time. The Japanese international will be particularly eager to make his mark, as Juventus are his favourite target since joining Serie A ? scoring against them regularly with both Perugia and Roma.
Mazzone?s midfield options are limited with Leonardo Colucci and Fabio Pecchia suspended for this tie, so Loviso and Claudio Bellucci should take part in the reshuffle. Tomas Locatelli is another one to watch after scoring in his last two Serie A games.
Bologna (probable): Pagliuca; Gamberini, Natali, Moretti; Nervo, Nakata, Colucci, Pecchia, Sussi; Locatelli, Tare
Juventus (probable): Buffon; Thuram, Montero, Iuliano, Zambrotta; Conte, Maresca, Appiah, Camoranesi; Del Piero, Trezeguet

Last season Bologna almost 'Cruz-ed' to a 2-0 victory if it weren't for Camoranesi's 94th minute equaliser which almost gave me a heart att...
right, on with the match preview! Bologna tied their last game in the match vs. Modena (I think it's a small derby, right?). Natali, Moretti and Pecchia played very well in that match acc. to the highlights I saw, plus ex-Juventino Nicola Amoruso slotted home a wonderful goal. Juve's last tricky away fixture was against Sampdoria, and I think this game will be no easier.
The advantage that Juve have is that Bologna's midfield maestros will be missing: Colucci and ex-Juventino Pecchia, and will be replaced by Sussi and Loviso whom I don't know much about. There's also talk that Nervo and Nakata *might* miss this game too...If there are 4 potential absences for Bologna then I seriously write them off!!
Lippi will most probably be resting DP, Nedved, Legro, and Thuram since they played friendlies last Wednesday, in addition to the absence of TrezeGol and Tudor both still recovering from their minor injuries picked up in the Coppa Italia semi! Plus, Depor-Juve matchup is on the 25th and we all know how tough it is for Juve in Galicia so Lippi will be resting his key men for that match. It's either Ferrara or Iuliano to play in right back for Juve, Montero il stopper, Zambrotta on the left wing back...nothing surprising there.
Interestingly enough, Maresca will play left wing, Camo on the right, Conte in the middle (I prefer if Tacchi played but he's disqualified!!) Nedved behind DV and Fabrizio Miccoli.

02/21/2004. BACKGROUND:
Bologna will host Juventus for the 62nd time ever at the "Dall'Ara" on Sunday afternoon.
In the 61 previous encounters, the home side won 19 times and drew 20 times. The bianconeri are slightly ahead with regards to wins as they have obtained full points 22 times.
The last time the two sides faced other was on the 13th of April 2003 in a game which ended 2-2 thanks to a last minute goal by Camoranesi after that Bologna were 2-0 up.
What's most worrying for Bologna is that they have only won once in the past 30 years, when they defeated the bianconeri 3-0 in 1998.
Bologna have started the new year in a great way as they are slowly moving away from the relegation zone. The won and drew their last two Serie A encounters against Udinese and Modena respectively, but they have yet to win points against any of the big teams this season.
Following the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Roma, the bianconeri got back on track with the qualification for the Coppa Italia final and a hard earned 1-0 win against Reggina last weekend. Lippi will want to celebrate his 400th bench in Serie A with a win, especially as it would serve as a morale boosting factor for their mid-week Champions League encounter against Deportivo in Spain.
TEAM NEWS:
Bologna: Rossini, Zanchi and Troise are all out injured while Pecchia and Colucci are suspended. Nakata and Tare have only returned on Friday from their National teams so they might not be able to play 90 minutes, but on the other hand Signori should start from the beginning following his return from injury.
Juventus: Lippi will not be able to field the suspended Tacchinardi as for the rest he will have a full team. Di Vaio and Miccoli should start from the beginning as they are the freshest forwards since they did not play any mid-week match.
PROBABLE FORMATIONS:
Bologna (4-4-1-1): Pagliuca; Zaccardo, Natali, Gamberini, Moretti; Nervo, Nakata, Loviso, Locatelli; Signori; Tare
Juventus (4-3-1-2): Buffon; Thuram, Legrottaglie, Iuliano, Zambrotta; Conte, Appiah, Maresca; Nedved; Di Vaio, Miccoli
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Nakata (Bologna): From the 30 goals scored by the Japanese player in Italy, 5 of them were scored against the bianconeri, making Juve his favourite Italian team target. Will he keep on the trend?
Miccoli (Juventus): With Del Piero being rested for Wednesday's big match against Deportivo, Miccoli iwll have his space and time to shine in this game.

Bologna 0 - 1 Juventus
Iuliano 56 (J)
Stadio Dall'Ara
Juve earn their first win at the Stadio Dall'Ara since 2001 to stay in the Scudetto race.
Marcello Lippi wanted to rotate the squad ahead of their Champions' League clash with Deportivo La Coruna. However, he was taking no chances and fielded both Alessandro Del Piero and Pavel Nedved from the start, while Marco Di Vaio replaced the injured David Trezeguet.
Bologna have been on fine form of late and Hidetoshi Nakata hoped to continue his long record of scoring against the Bianconeri, as he has already bagged five in these meetings. Beppe Signori was able to start despite fitness problems. Carlo Mazzone was forced to reshuffle the midfield as Fabio Pecchia and Leonardo Colucci are suspended.
Juventus wore black armbands and held a minute's silence before this match after the death of the legendary John Charles.
Both sides went close early on with Gianluca Zambrotta, Mauro Camoranesi and Beppe Signori. The Bologna striker broke through the centre and somehow ballooned over the bar.
Gianluca Pagliuca has been on stunning form this season and performed a desperate reaction save on the half-hour mark. Pavel Nedved's fierce drive took a massive deflection and the veteran managed to tip it over the bar with a strong hand.
Mauro German Camoranesi was causing several problems and his cross was nodded over by Di Vaio.
The ex-Parma man has not been on good form in recent months and he really should have scored just before the break. Di Vaio burst through the centre on Enzo Maresca's illuminating pass, but his lob was off target with only Pagliuca to beat.
Bologna very nearly scored in first half stoppage time with Nakata's taut cross getting past both Gianluigi Buffon and Ighli Tare.
Moments later Pagliuca was again called to palm out another powerful Nedved drive from the edge of the box.
Juventus eventually broke through at the dawn of the second half. Del Piero whipped in a free kick and found Mark Iuliano's outstretched foot at the back post, but replays show he was not offside when the ball came in.
The home side occasionally tested Buffon with a Tare header on Signori's free kick, but overall their pressure rarely turned into scoring opportunities.
Fabrizio Miccoli and Gianluca Zambrotta tried to score with solo efforts, but it remained an open game until the end.
Bologna: Pagliuca; Zaccardo, Natali, Moretti; Nervo, Nakata, Dalla Bona, Locatelli (Loviso 80), Sussi; Tare (Meghni 75), Signori
Juventus: Buffon; Ferrara, Iuliano (Pessotto 81), Montero, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Conte, Maresca (Appiah 64); Nedved; Del Piero, Di Vaio (Miccoli 53)

I believe Lippi was planning to rest Alex and Neddy for the trip to Deportivo but since Milan won the derby last night the pressure was on us and Roma to deilver and close the gap again. A slip-up would be suicidal at this stage of the season, so that's why I think Lippi opted for the best possible line-up and put the Deportivo match aside, for now at least.
That plan paid dividents as we controlled the ball and looked more comfortable for large parts of the match. Our key to winning was our midfield, it was highly concentrated and had a good day. Incidentlly, Tacchi wasn't there.
Conte was great while Maresca had another good match, especially in the first half. Camoranesi gave us glimpses of his fantastic and peotic touches a la Zidane. His run-in on opponents was also fasinating to watch. I love it when lil' Camo is on top-form. Sadly, that couldn't be said of Neddy. To make matters worse, he got booked and now misses the next match.
Alex has a disappointing first half but quickly bounced back in a more lively second half. His nicely struck free-kick was going in anyway, and that's what Alex was arguing (jokingly) with a celebrating Iuliano. Di Vaio tried hard but had a frustrating time missing chances. Miccoli didn't really add much to our game when he was introduced just before the goal was scored.
Our defence kept another clean sheet (and believe it or not, not-so-popular Iuliano and Montero were at the back to protect Buffon. But it must be said that Bologna's forwards also had a bad day and that had something to do with it (clean sheet). Also Buffon was there whenever needed.
Don't be upset with Mialn's win against Inter. The most important thing is that we keep on winning, even in big matches. :)

PA
BOLOGNA, February 22 (Serie A) - Mark Iuliano's second half goal kept Juventus within six points of Serie A leaders AC Milan with a scrappy win in Bologna.
It was a far from convincing performance from the champions but their experience will tell them that it is points and not performances that are at a premium at this stage of the season.
With the death of the legendary John Charles and AC Milan's dramatic comeback win over Inter on Saturday and with a Champions League second round clash with Deportivo to come this week, Juventus were not short on distractions.
Before the game a commemoration was held in memory of former Welsh international Charles who was known as ``il gigante buono'' (the gentle giant) during his stint with Juve.
But they set about mid-table Bologna from the very start although they failed to carve out clear chances for all their dominance and slick passing in the first half-an-hour.
With veteran striker Giuseppe Signori returning from injury for the side six points off relegation, Bologna were acutely aware of the importance of a win to keep relegation worries from their door but they rarely made it out of their own half in the opening stages.
The first real opening came with six minutes of the half remaining when good link play between Enzo Maresca and Del Piero saw Marco Di Vaio clean through in the box, but he failed to score for the first time since November and fired over with only goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca to beat.
Later, Juve's diminutive midfielder Mauro Camoranesi forced a good save from former Inter 37-year-old Pagliuca from close range after a deep cross to the far post.
And in stoppage time Bologna finally put a sweeping move together.
The 35-year-old Signori played a wonderful crossfield ball to loan-signing from Parma Hidetoshi Nakata, whose low cross rolled tantalisingly across the Juve box, just a yard ahead of the lurking Albanian striker Igli Tare.
Pagliuca was alert again at the beginning of the second period, reacting quickly to another hopeful Juve ball over the top to punch clear of Di Vaio.
But the Serie A champions were still too isolated going forward and not looking like breaking the deadlock.
Juventus coach Marcello Lippi withdrew the mis-firing Di Vaio for Fabrizio Miccoli after ten minutes of the second half and his side took the lead almost straight away.
Del Piero forced a foul with a dangerous run at the Bologna box and found Iuliano at the far post with the help of a deflection off the wall with the resulting free-kick.
The deflection left the 30-year-old unmarked at the far post with Pagliuca stranded and he made no mistake, stabbing the ball home from close range to score his second goal of the season - his first coming in the 2-1 over Bologna at the Stadio Delle Alpi in October.
Giving the Bianconeri a 57th minute lead, Iuliano also achieved his highest ever goalscoring total for a season in 14 seasons as a professional.
But the home side refused to give up the fight - a Signori free-kick caused the struggling Juve defence problems and the scores would have been levelled if Tare had directed his header either side of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
Signori repeated the trick with 15 minutes left but this time it was Cesare Natali who failed to make Italian international Buffon work for his save and Juventus claimed all three points.

February 23, 2004
A second-half effort from Mark Iuliano was enough for an undermanned Juventus to edge a 1-0 win at Bologna yesterday.
Juve coach Marcello Lippi admitted he went into the game with one eye on this week's Champions League commitments.
"Juventus, regarding the past year, has four points more than last season, is in final of the Cup and the last eight of the Champions," said Lippi.
"This is better than before, if Milan does not slow down there's nothing you can do. Today we have made a good contest and we have faced a good Bologna."
dreamer75
24-02-2004, 12:40 AM
Marcello Lippi: ?It was crucial not to lose touch with Milan and Roma, but that would have been the case even if the Rossoneri had not won the derby. We didn?t make the most of our possession, as there were few actual shots on goal compared to our potential. All we can do is keep winning, but if the others don?t slow down then they deserve our respect.?
dreamer75
24-02-2004, 12:49 AM
Marcello Lippi has revealed his hopes for the rest of the season, as well as commenting on his possible life after Juventus.
"Last year at this stage of the campaign we had four points less than today yet we were first in the table," he told ?Radio Anch?Io? this morning.
"I liked the way we played in the 1-0 win at Bologna and I can?t criticise my players at all for their effort this season. Milan and Roma are simply performing above average."
Juventus are still in the Scudetto race as they are one point behind Roma and six adrift of Milan.
Yet Lippi has hinted that the Italian Championship is not the number one objective for Juventus this term.
"If I had to choose between the Champions? League and the Scudetto? Well we?ve won five titles and just one European Cup in my time here. That should answer the question."
Juve are back on the European trail this week when they travel to Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday. And fortunately the Italian side are now looking better defensively.
"We?ve conceded too many goals this term but that wasn?t just down to the rearguard," continued the tactician.
"In fact if we could go back to the summer transfer campaign then I wouldn?t have asked for any more defenders. That is the truth.
"In the last few games I think something has changed at the back though. We seem to be more focused."
Lippi was also questioned about his own future where he confirmed that he is interested in becoming the Italian national boss.
"I would obviously like that chance," he stated. "After 10 years here I don?t want to Coach any other top sides in Italy.
"I could maybe also try an experience in Serie B or abroad. But I?m just concentrating on Juventus for now."
Lippi?s final thoughts went to Juve legend John Charles who died at the weekend. "I had the good fortune of meeting him," he added.
"When we spoke about Juventus, past and present, he would get very emotional. He was a great man."

Juventus had to win to honour John Charles? memory. Lippi, that today with Juventus played his 400 match in Serie A, after the match he said: ?Today it was important to win to continue the approach run to Milan and Roma. We needed the three scores to keep the distance as short as possible. We played well, probably we weren?t too concentrated , but we didn?t risk much. It had been an important victory. Now we look forward. Also if our rivals, mostly Milan, will keep the same rhythm it will be difficult."

Italian juggernaut Juventus travel away to take on Spanish giants Deportivo La Coruna as the first knock out round of the Champions League gets underway. Look for Pavel Nedved and Alessandro Del Piero to spearhead Juve?s challenge against Javier Irureta and his men.

Deportivo - Juventus Preview (Part 1)
First knock-out Round
25 February 2004
20:45 (CET)Riazor - La Coruña
--------------------------------
Juve will be visting Deportivo's Raizor stadium for the umpteenth time on Wednesday in another Italian-Spanish European encounter. The Juve players must be familiar with the stadium's surroundings and locker rooms already as they continually face Deportivo during different stages of the competition.
Since 2000, Juve have won once, Deportivo once, and 4 matches ended in a draw. That's how close it could be whenever Juve meets Deportivo. Last season's first match in La Coruna ended in a 2-2 draw but Juve had the upper hand and won the return match 3-2 with a last gasp winner from Igor Tudor.
Deportivo have shown a contrasting display between playing at home and away. At home, the Spanish team was formidable, never conceded a goal, and won all three matches played during the group stages (2-0 vs PSV, 1-0 vs. Monaco, and 3-0 vs. AEK Athens). However, the floodgates were wide open on the team travels as the team was heavily exposed in the record breaking 3-8 defeat against Monaco, not to mention the 2-3 blow to PSV and the unconvincing 1-1 draw in Athens.
Juve however have been more balanced in the group stages as the team was able to win both at home and away from the Delle Alpi. Juve started the European adventure with a win against tough opponents Galatasaray 2-1 at home before winning away with the same scoreline against Olympiakos. After that Juve defeated Spain's Real Soceidad 4-2 and snatched a 0-0 away draw that secured qualification. And despite a loss in Turkey, Juve bounced back emphatically and the victims were Olympiakos who suffered a backlash of 7 goals scored by six different players without a reply.
Juve Formation:
(4-3-1-2)
Juve's defence have been heavily criticized this season for leaking many a goals this season as compared to the past seasons. Every move made by the Bianconeri defenders will be put under the microscope from now on. However, the defenders have improved recently, keeping a double clean sheet in the league ad also having enough time to score themselves and win matches (Iuliano against Bologna). A heavy guest to Spanish grounds in the form of Alessandro Birindelli will be missing though, much to the relief of the Galicians. However, other than Birindelli Lippi should have the compete squad to chose from. Juve's defence should be made up of the following players:
-- Thuram ? Legrottaglie ? Montero --- Zambrotta --
http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/competitions/UCL/128292_351X180.jpg
Tacchi back after suspension.
I can't see Camoranesi and Maresca both starting this match as Lippi is expected to play a defensive approach with a midfield line-up that includes both Tacchinardi and Appiah. Tacchinardi missed the Bologna win as he was suspended and didn't join the Azzurri for the International friendly against the Czechs. A well deserved rest one would say. Anyway, I think our midfield would look something like this:
--------------------- Tacchi --------------------
---- Appiah -------------------- Maresca ----
--------------------- Nedved ----------------
http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/competitions/UCL/69361_351X180.jpg
Neddy needs to excel again.
The key to the game now is to score away goals. That would be extremely crucial in progressing to the next stage, thus a lot of effort is expected from Alex Del Piero and David Trezeguet. The Treviso-born star thrives on outwitting defenders and is a major threat from free-kicks. The French hitman, however, is a deadly finisher and after resting a match with Juve and skipping the International friendly for France would be eager to resume duty and score goals again. Expected attack line:
------ Trezeguet ------- Del Piero --------
http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/footballcentral/FootballCentral/65064_351X180.jpg
So, will Deportivo continue their winning tradition at the Raizor or will Lippi's boys prove too hot to handle? Admittedly, both teams are no where near their top form but a Champions League place in the quarterfinals is at stake here and as such both teams will be fighting until death tears them apart.

Deportivo are currently 3rd place in La Liga, so do us 3rd place in Serie A.
I guess Lippi will play a more defensive game. We need a draw (in our current form, a draw is more than good) and don't conceed too many in spain. If we can achieved that, than i'll say we're rather safe as we're always better at home.

UEFA Champions League
-----------------------------
--------Round-16------------
-----------------------------
February 25, 2004 - Wednesday
RC DEPORTIVO LA CORUŇA --- Vs. --- JUVENTUS CF
---------------------- 1st LEG -------------------------
-----------------Riazor, La Coruňa - Espana -----------
Preview
The Raging Bull of Turin pays a visit to the familiar Galicia region of Espana where they will face-off with SuperDepor for YET another meeting!!! Last season's tie produced the most goals in total ... 9 to be precise so one hopes it is goals galore all over again as compared to the dry encounters of the previous two seasons preceding last season.
These teams have been meeting each other with regualrity for quite some time now with no less than six meetings in all!
'00-'01
--------
Juve - Depo -> 0-0
Depo - Juve -> 1-1
'01-'02
--------
Juve - Depo -> 0-0
Depo - Juve -> 2-0
'02-'03
---------
Depo - Juve -> 2-2
Juve - Depo -> 3-2
Both teams have amazingly drawn 2 games at home and won ONE home encounter. None of these sides has lost at home while playing each other so it could well be decided on which team plays better away from home this time!!!
Winning the UCL comes hand in hand with performing well away from home. Juve got that problem fixed to an extent when they broke the two year duck of not winning away. They did it the hard way winning in Kiev ironically the same side that they won away against last time around as well!!!
Deportivo have stabilized somewhat and are now playing effective football notching up some good wins along the way. Juve after having a superb pre-Winter break period started to suffer and are getting back on track with scrappy yet effective 1-0 wins!!
Interesting tie in prospect and it is a matter of Carpe-Diem (Sieze The Day). The question is who will Seize the Day indeed!
RC Deportivo La Coruňa
Deportivo had a lot of spark and promise in winning away games to Man Utd., Arsenal, Bayern but have become somewhat of an unpredictable entity. Their first group stage performance will be remembered more for the Horror Show in Monaco where Giuly, Rothen and Po tore them apart in an 8 goal whooping with only three replies!! To make matters worse PSV Eindhoven who are pretty bad at home themselves put 3 goals past them in an enthralling encounter that they won 3-2 over Depor!! Here's the catch though. Both were away games.
Deportivo have one of the strongest home records in all teams participating. They have yet to concede a single goal at home in this season in Europe with 2-0, 1-0 and 3-0 wins. Add to that the fact that they have lost only 3 home games in their career and you have a very decent home record for a side!! Another interesting bit is that whenever Depo lost at home they didnot score a goal themselves. 0-1 (Milan), 0-2 (Man Utd.) and 0-4 (Milan) are their results!!
They surely are a team of extremes. Its their way or the highway!!
Tactics / Formation
Lippi will play the 4-2-3-1 but there are a couple of big question marks as to who will partner Tacchinardi in midfield and what will be the central defence composed of? Shifting Thuram to the centre especially in this away game will come in very handy for Juve but this is where Birindelli's absence hurts.
-------------------------Buffon-----------------------
-
--Thuram-------Legro----Montero-----Zambrotta--
--
--------------Maresca---------Tacchinardi---------
--
------Camoranesi-----Del Piero------Nedved
--
------------------------Trezeguet---------------------
Montero has to step up a bit and try to concentrate more. Legrottalie needs a leader on his side as he is a follower more than a leader. Thuram can be that man and Lippi should think twice of whether to put Lilian in the centre to try and block out SuperDepor.
Maresca's performances merit a start. Appiah is ok but he can't pass the ball on the ground if the pass is a little lengthy ... always chips it which breaks the flow.
The golden boy Nedved has been quite a distance from his blazing form for quite some time now. He definitely needs to raise his game and announce himself as European competition resumes!! I've put him on the left coz he is more dangerous when cutting in from there and then drifting around on the pitch.
Key Battles
Depor Vs. Buffon
----------------------
Great goalie. So I gave him tough odds against the whole team isntead of one individual In reality he will be bombarded with attempts keeping in mind a fragile central defence so he will have to be alert and on form.
Valeron Vs. Tacchinardi
-----------------------------
Juan Carlos Valeron when on form can literally tear a defence apart with extreme ease and he has done it quite a few times in the past. He is like a shark that smells blood and goes for the prey!! Extremely dangerous and fantastic player!! Tacchinardi will have a tough job and has to be cautios when it comes to bookings!
Tristan Vs. Legrottaglie
-----------------------------
To be honest I don't see a Juve central defender competing with Diego Tristan. Hence Maresca/Appiah have to help out the defence as much as they can. They are the shield before the defence. If it is weak then the central defence will have a rough day.
Sergio Vs. Nedved
------------------------
The Ballon d'Or winner has to raise his game and he will because he wants this trophy bad. He will get room to shoot. Just a matter of shooting with accuracy or not.
Andrade Vs. Trezeguet
-----------------------------
The dangerous Frenchman's scoring is a necessity for Juve's progress. He hasn't scored in some time. He could well be the first man from a visiting side to score in La Coru this season!

David Trezeguet should feature for Juventus in their European tie at Deportivo La Coruna after recovering from injury.
The Frenchman missed the 1-0 win at Bologna on Sunday but he?s recovered from a slight muscle problem.
The striker, who was replaced by a disappointing Marco Di Vaio, is expected to start alongside Alessandro Del Piero.
The only notable absence from the squad for Wednesday?s Champions? League trip is Igor Tudor who has a thigh strain.
Enzo Maresca is also included in the party despite having a back problem at this present time.
Squad: Buffon; Ferrara, Tacchinardi, Montero, Pessotto, Conte, Miccoli, Del Piero, Nedved, Chimenti, Iuliano, Maresca, Birindelli, Camoranesi, Trezeguet, Appiah, Zambrotta, Di Vaio, Thuram, Mirante, Legrottaglie.

Juventus trainer Marcello Lippi hasn't ruled out coaching another Italian club.
Asked about his future, Lippi declared: "What do I consider intriguing at a professional level?
"After many years at Juve, I'm sure it is right not to go to another top Italian team, but that is not to say that I do not want to stay in Italy. Maybe in Serie B.
"But it would even appeal to me to experience a foreign country.
"When people ask me if I would be interested in coaching Italy, of course I am going to say yes."

Juventus will hold talks with veteran midfielder Antonio Conte about a new contract this week.
The former Italian international's current deal expires at the end of the season, but Juve are keen to tie him to a new, 12-month extension.
However, Al Arabi are also chasing Conte and are believed to have tabled a massive two-year contract worth £5 million.

Udinese and Juventus remain in talks over midfield pair David Pizarro and Marek Jankulovski.
A cash fee has all but been agreed for the duo, around £7 million. But Udinese also want a player in exchange.
Ideally, Juve midfielder Enzo Maresca is the man Udinese want in the swap, though Juve have so far offered fringe striker Giuseppe Sculli, who is currently on-loan at Chievo Verona.

Antonio Conte is set to start talks with Juventus over a new one-year deal with the Italian champions.
The 34-year-old has less than six months left on his current contract but his Juve career is set to continue.
Conte started this campaign on the bench but returned to the line-up after the Bianconeri hit a bad spell just before Christmas.
Despite his age, Conte has impressed in midfield with his physical ability and his vast experience.
Reports suggest that Conte will meet officials in the next few weeks in a bid to reach an agreement.
The former Italian international has been in Turin since his 1991 November switch from home town club Lecce.
Conte, who was the club captain when he was guaranteed a first team shirt, is the longest serving member of the current squad.

Juventus insist they haven?t lost their appeal despite being rejected by Dejan Stankovic and Jaap Stam.
Stankovic turned down a January switch to Turin in favour of joining Inter. While Lazio?s Stam insists he would prefer a summer move to one of the Milan clubs.
But director general Luciano Moggi has hit back at claims that the club are not the force they once were on the transfer market.
"First of all, who has said that we were ever chasing Stam? We already have enough defenders of his age," he told the ?Gazzetta dello Sport?.
"Therefore our interests are elsewhere. Anyway, it doesn?t seem as if the January signings have been that effective."
That last statement seems to have been directed at Inter who despite the capture of Stankovic and Adriano are still struggling.
Reports recently also suggested that a lack of cash in the game may see Juve remain quiet on the transfer front. But Moggi has rubbished that claim too.
"We will strengthen the squad," he added. "But seeing as we are still in all competitions it isn?t as if a revolution is needed here.
"The lack of money? That simply means that we will have to use our intelligence. But we are a club that always looks at the books."
It?s believed that Juve will bring in a number of new defenders in the summer with the Parma duo of Matteo Ferrari and Daniele Bonera their main objectives.
Moggi also used the interview to dismiss whispers that his time with the club may be coming to an end.
Meanwhile, Juventus will be without Enzo Maresca for the Champions? League game at La Coruna tomorrow.
The in-form midfielder has withdrawn from the squad due to a back problem he picked up in the 1-0 win at Bologna.

Deportivo - Juventus Preview (Part 2)
First knock-out Round
25 February 2004
20:45 (CET)Riazor - La Coruña
--------------------------------
Tesnsions are high at the Deprtivo camp as a training bustup has occurred between forward Luque and the team's hard coach, Javier Irureta. As a result, Luque left the training ground early with anger and may be fined by the club or even forced to miss the all important match with Juve. Alberto Luque allies a fierce left-foot shot with pace and aerial power, and has adapted well to Irureta's new 4-2-3-1 formation.
Problems of another sort are also swapping Deportivo in the form of injuries, as attacking player Juan Carlos Valerón have received a knock after playing in the scoreless draw with Atletico Madrid but is expected nevertheless to be deemed fit for this clash. One of Spanish football's foremost midfield players, Valerón is renowned for his vision and passing ability, and for a habit of scoring spectacular goals.
http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/competitions/UCL/43880_351X180.jpg
However midfielder Mauro Silva have missed training due to injuries and remain in doubt. The indefatigable Brazilian remains the engine of the RC Deportivo La Coruña side despite him entering the wrong end of the 30s. His absence should be really felt especially that his direct replacement, Duscer, is also injured.
Naybet is expected to return to lead the defense after missing a large number of matches as a result of participation in the African Nations Cup, in which he lead Morocco to the final only to lose to hosts Tunisia.
Even though Tristan have shown a lack of form in recent matches, he is still preferred by coach Irureta to start this match ahead of Walter Pandiani. The powerfully built Tristan holds the ball up superbly and is more than useful in the air. On form, he could also be one of the deadliest strikers in the world so Juve's defence better watch out.

Deportivo's probable line-up:
------------------------ Molina --------------------------
-- Scaloni --- Andrade --- Naybet ---- Capdevila --

02/24/2004. BACKGROUND
Two old foes meet once again for one of the last 16's outstanding ties.
Deportivo La Coruna and Juventus are no strangers having met six times in the Champions League since 2000.
Both sit third in their respective leagues, somewhat off the title pace, but by no means out of the race.
Deportivo's 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid on Sunday was highly respectable, but did little to boost their title challenge with Real Madrid winning once again. Juventus, meanwhile, put in a workmanlike display to a claim a 1-0 win from a taxing fixture at Bologna.
Depor coach Javier Irureta will believe that the Bianconeri's suspect backline can be exploited by Diego Tristan and co at the Riazor. Juventus have been far from their usual selves in defence this season, with Nicola Legrottaglie failing to fully settle since his move from Chievo. The club recognise that young blood is required, and it is no secret that money will be spent on reinforcements in the summer.
The Spaniards will be out for revenge after a last-gasp Juve goal saw them denied a place in the quarterfinals last season.
LATEST TEAM NEWS
Deportivo: Nourredine Naybet returns to the Depor defence, while Enrique Romero will play at left-back. Irureta must decide whether Fran or Sergio will partner Mauro Silva in midfield.
Juventus: David Trezeguet has recovered from his muscular problems and is set to start alongside Alex Del Piero. Antonio Conte, who is set to be offered a new deal by the club, and Stephan Appiah, will fight it out for a place in midfield.

Diego Tristan (Deportivo): Tristan has failed to hit the heights of a couple of season's ago, perhaps because he has been in and out of the team over the last campaign and a half. Remains a class act on his day, however.
Pavel Nedved (Juventus): you get the impression that Juventus' success in this competition my just hinge on the performances of the shaggy haired Czech. He'll be desperate for the club to get to another final after missing out on last year's through suspension.
PROBABLE LINE-UPS
Deportivo: Molina; Scaloni, Andrade, Naybet, Romero; Sergio or Fran, Mauro Silva; Víctor, Valerón, Luque, Tristán.
Juventus: Buffon; Thuram, Legrottaglie, Montero, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Tacchinardi, Conte or Appiah, Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet.

Gianluigi Buffon believes Juventus are ready to pick up their first ever win at Deportivo?s Riazor Stadium.
?This will be the decisive moment for our back line,? noted the goalkeeper after keeping two consecutive clean sheets in Serie A.
?It is a nice change not to pick the ball out of the back of my net for 180 minutes,? he joked, ?but we are now going to face one of Europe?s best sides. They know us and we know them, above all the atmosphere in the Riazor Stadium.?
Buffon and his fellow Bianconeri are certainly familiar with the arena, as they have played Deportivo in the last three editions of the Champions? League.
Juve have never managed to win here, but this is their first encounter with Deportivo in a knockout stage.
?This will be a very different match to the one we had last season,? he noted of their 2-2 draw.
?Back then we were a new team only just beginning to mature, but now we have greater confidence in our abilities on the European stage. That is why we are not going there looking for a draw.?
Juventus certainly have been the bête noir of Spanish sides in recent times, knocking out Barcelona and Real Madrid on their way to the Champions? League Final.
Probable line-up: Buffon; Thuram, Legrottaglie, Montero, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Conte, Tacchinardi; Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet

A TIGHT match looks in store when Deportivo La Coruña meet Juventus in the first leg of their European Cup tie tonight. The teams have drawn four of their six meetings over the past three seasons. It was not until March last year that Juventus recorded their first win over the Spanish team, a 3-2 victory courtesy of a stoppage-time goal by Igor Tudor.
?We?ve faced them a lot and for that reason it?s going to be very difficult,? Javier Irureta, the Deportivo coach, said. Marcello Lippi, the Juventus coach, echoed the sentiments. ?For us, going to La Coruña is not new, we know the team well, it?s a good squad and it will be a tough match,? Lippi said.
Deportivo are attempting to reach the quarter-finals of the European Cup for the third time in four seasons. ?We need to concentrate right from the start because we know what happened against Juventus last year, when we were leading 2-0 only to draw 2-2. We?ve learnt the lesson and we need to keep it firmly in our heads,? Irureta said.
Proof of how seriously Deportivo are taking the game was evident on Monday when Albert Luque, the Spain forward, stormed away from training after an argument with Irureta. ?It?s a sensitive time of the season, with heavy pressure because of what?s at stake against Juventus. You can see it in training,? Luque said.
Despite his fit of pique, Luque is expected to partner Diego Tristán in attack as Deportivo aim to take advantage of the defensive difficulties that Juventus have suffered this season. While Lippi?s team has scored more goals (44) in the Italian league than any other club, they have also conceded far more (25) than AC Milan (13) and AS Roma (9).
?We?ve given up too many goals this year, but the responsibility isn?t just with the defence,? Lippi said. ?I haven?t ever had all my best players in top condition.?
Juventus, who lost last season?s European Cup final to Milan on penalties, will be without Tudor and Enzo Maresca, but hope to field David Trezeguet, the side?s top scorer with 17 goals this season. The France striker missed Sunday?s 1-0 league victory away to Bologna with an injury to the left thigh.

Juventus and Deportivo La Coruna can still salvage a bauble or two from this season if they can reach the heights of which they are capable in the next few weeks, starting today. Otherwise, their seasons are just about over.
After examining each others' Champions League credentials on the Costa da Morte today, Juve and Depor face testing periods in their national leagues. And any slip could prove terminal to their hopes of a title.
Juventus, five points off the pace in Serie A, take on the leaders Milan at the Stadio Delle Alpi next month. Deportivo, trailing Real Madrid by six points in La Liga, face a season-defining month with matches against Juve home and away, Barcelona at home and Valencia away.
These are well-matched teams with similar records - they have one win each from six Champions League meetings in the past three years. Both have star forwards returning to fitness. But this week's events have hinted that there is a significant difference between these sides. If we are to believe the evidence of the training ground, Deportivo are the ones feeling the heat.
Though their recent results have been good, Juve's visit has evidently brought some internal tensions to the surface. That appears to be the explanation for Monday's events, when the Spanish international striker Albert Luque rowed with the manager Javier Irureta, stamped his foot and walked out of training.
"It's a sensitive time of the season, with heavy pressure because of what's at stake against Juventus," Luque explained. "You can see it in training."
Irureta played down the episode and Luque is expected to play today, supporting Diego Tristán in attack, with Juan Carlos Valerón, back in the side after injury, in close attendance. David Trezeguet, who missed the 1-0 victory over Bologna on Sunday with a thigh strain, should be back to lead the Juve attack.
Juventus have scored more goals in Serie A than any other club, but they have also conceded far more than any of their title rivals.
"We've given up too many goals this year, but the responsibility isn't the defence's," their manager Marcello Lippi claims. "I haven't ever had all my best players in top condition."
He can hardly use that as an excuse today. If Trezeguet plays, only the injured Igor Tudor, the giant Croat who anchors the midfield, and young Enzo Maresca, the former West Brom midfielder, will be missing from the squad.

LA CORUNA, Spain (AFP) - Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Mauro Silva has warned his team-mates not to give an inch to Juventus' potentially dangerous strikers in the Champions League second round, first leg tie at the Riazor stadium.
"There is no recipe for stopping players of the calibre of Alessandro Del Piero and Marco Di Vaio," the Brazil international told UEFA.com.
"The only thing we can do is to be extra attentive over the whole 90 minutes and not give them any room at any point in the game.
"It is important to make them feel uncomfortable and to make sure they are always well marked, wherever they might be on the pitch."
Revenge will be on Deportivo's minds having been denied a place in the quarter-finals by the reigning Italian champions last season.
A draw would have been enough for Deportivo to qualify at Juve's expense when the teams met for their final second phase group match in Turin, and with the scores tied at 2-2 and the 90 minutes up, the Spaniards were looking good to go through to the next round.
But in a cruel twist of fate, Croatian defender Igor Tudor surged upfield and scored with a rasping drive in the third minute of stoppage time to send Juve through instead of Deportivo.
Silva, who played for Deportivo that night, said nothing can be taken for granted when playing against the Turin giants, who were defeated in last season's final by AC Milan on penalties.
"I think they are one of the strongest, most experienced teams in the competition," he said.
"Furthermore, they are a very physical side who always make the most of their style of play - even when they are not at their best, Juve are capable of beating anyone."
Silva said even the loss of Edgar Davids, loaned to Barcelona until the end of the season when the Dutchman's contract ends, had not weakened the Italians.
"Davids gave them strength in the centre of the field and an edge in attack but they are a very strong team and I am sure they will be just as dangerous without him," he said.
Deportivo, playing in the Champions League for the fourth consecutive year, have never gone beyond the last eight of the competition, but Silva believes the time has come to put the record straight.
"I have always believed Deportivo can make the semi-finals of the Champions League and play a great role in the competition," he said. "Any team like Deportivo, who have won the Spanish league and been in the Champions League for four years, can reach the semis."
Meanwhile, Juventus coach Marcello Lippi has made it clear which trophy he covets the most this season.
Asked if he had to choose between the Champions League and a third consecutive league title, he said: "Well, we've won five league titles and just one European Cup in my time here. That should answer the question."
Deportivo midfielder Juan Carlos Valeron is suffering a muscular injury and is coach Javier Irureta's main concern.
Midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi and Tudor were rested for Sunday's league match at Bologna and are expected to be recalled to the starting line-up in place of Antonio Conte and Mark Iuliano respectively.
French defender Lilian Thuram, a non-playing substitute at the weekend, is also likely to start for the visitors in place of Ciro Ferrara.
Thuram's compatriot David Trezeguet is recovering from a left thigh strain but should at least make Juve's bench.
While Juve won 1-0 at the weekend, Deportivo were held to a goalless draw at Atletico Madrid. Both teams are third in their respective divisions.
Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Mauro Silva has warned his team-mates not to give an inch to Juventus' potentially dangerous strikers in the Champions League second round, first leg tie at the Riazor stadium.

LA CORUNA, Spain -- A tight match looks in store when Deportivo de La Coruna meets Juventus in the first leg of the Champions League's second round on Wednesday.
The teams have drawn four of their six meetings in Europe's top club competition over the last three seasons. And it wasn't until last March that Juventus recorded its first win over the Spanish team, a 3-2 victory courtesy of an injury-time goal by Croatian international Igor Tudor.
"For us, going to La Coruna is not new, we know the team well, it's a good squad and it will be a tough match," Juventus coach Marcelo Lippi said.
Deportivo, which has been a Champions League perennial over recent years, will be bidding to reach the quarterfinals for the third time in four seasons.
The team's recent league form gives it cause for encouragement, having gained 10 of its last 12 points in the Spanish league and still harboring an outside chance of lifting the title for the second time in its history.
Proof of how seriously Deportivo was taking Wednesday's game was evident on Monday when Spanish international forward Albert Luque stormed off the training field after an argument with coach Javier Irureta.
"It's a sensitive time of the season, with heavy pressure because of what's at stake against Juventus on Wednesday. You can see it in training," Luque said.
Despite his fit of pique, Luque is expected to partner Diego Tristan in attack as Deportivo's aims to take advantage of Juventus' atypical defensive difficulties this season. While Lippi's team has scored more goals (44) in the Italian league than any other club, it has also conceded far more (25) than its title rivals AC Milan (13) and AS Roma (9).
"We've given up too many goals this year, but the responsibility isn't the defense's," Lippi said. "I haven't ever had all my best players in top condition."
Two-time winner Juventus, which lost in last season's Champions League final to Milan, will be without Tudor and another midfielder, Enzo Maresca, but hopes to field David Trezeguet, its top scorer with 17 goals this season. The French striker missed Sunday's league win over Bologna with a left thigh injury.
Deportivo has been boosted by the recovery of Spanish international midfielder Juan Carlos Valeron, while Moroccan defender Noureddine Naybet is available again after a month's absence with African Cup finalist Morocco.
Valeron implied his team will adopt a cautious approach against the Italian powerhouse, which, like Deportivo, lies third in its country's league standings but is also an Italian Cup finalist.
"It's a game of two legs and we will have to be careful about the way we play it," he said.
The teams play the return leg in Turin on March 9.

Coach Marcello Lippi is looking to Alex Del Piero to inspire Juventus in their tie at Deportivo La Coruna.
The Bianconeri face the Spaniards this evening and Lippi is hoping that his captain will light up the Champions? League encounter.
"Which player am I expecting a lot from? Del Piero," he stated. "I know that we are very close to seeing some special displays from him."
However, Lippi is well aware of the task ahead of his side this evening. Especially as they have only beaten Deportivo once in six European Cup games.
"We know that La Coruna are a difficult team to play against," added the tactician. "They are really dangerous in attack where they have talented players."
Although a win would obviously be ideal for Lippi, he admitted that a draw wouldn?t be the worst result in the world.
"Even if we don?t win we can still qualify," he noted. "These games last 180 minutes. We?ve drawn twice here and lost once but we?ve always played well."
Juventus? recent League form has also helped to increase confidence within the Bianconeri camp.
"We are improving all of the time," he added. "Physically we are fine and we seem more focused. Especially in defence where we haven?t conceded in our last two games."
Del Piero agreed with his Coach. "Up until 20 days ago we hadn?t expressed ourselves very well," said the No 10.
"But we?ve done well in the League and the two Coppa Italia games against Inter really helped us. Let?s hope we can stay this positive until the end of the season."

Juventus were defeated 1-0 at La Coruna after a sluggish display, but hope they can turn it around in Turin.
Marcello Lippi's men have never won at the Riazor, but take on Deportivo La Coruna for the fourth year on the trot in the Champions' League.
The Bianconeri welcomed David Trezeguet back from a thigh injury, but Enzo Maresca and Igor Tudor were out of action. Juve came out with their third choice 'Cave Purple' strip.
Nicola Legrottaglie has been under fire this season and his error handed Diego Tristan the ball on the edge of the box within four minutes, but he and a teammate were able to recover the situation with a desperate challenge.
Alessandro Del Piero had Juve's first real chance on 13 minutes, but a decisive tackle stopped him in the box before he could line up the shot.
Another disastrous defensive error let Valeron through soon after, but Gianluigi Buffon was equal to his fierce shot.
Pavel Nedved gallopped down the left flank and put in a taut cross, but it was just past Trezeguet in the six-yard box.
Valeron poured forward on the counter-attack and wanted a penalty when he fell under pressure from Gianluca Pessotto, but the referee waved play on.
Juve went closer than anyone on 28 minutes when Del Piero swept a sudden shot towards Molina's goal from distance and it dipped just past the crossbar.
There was panic in the Juventus area on the half-hour mark. Two Victor crosses were not cleared effectively and Lilian Thuram's last-ditch tackle proved decisive on Tristan.
Moments later Nedved's inspired through ball let Del Piero through on goal, but Molina stayed on his feet and performed a brilliant save on his chipped finish.
There was controversy soon after when Trezeguet couldn't get his shot on target because Deportivo defender Jorge Andrade's body - and Juve suggested also his hand - were in the way.
The Spaniards also wanted a penalty, but replays show Alberto Luque perform a blatant dive.
Moments later this player - who walked out of training following a row with Coach Javier Irureta this week - showed the best side of his game. A Thuram error allowed Luque to volley into the far corner past a helpless Buffon.
There was more bad news as Trezeguet clattered into Molina as they both went for a cross and the Frenchman fell heavily on to his shoulder. The striker already suffered a similar injury earlier this season and was replaced by the pacey Fabrizio Miccoli.
Deportivo were given a golden opportunity to double their lead just two minutes into the second half, but Victor incredibly fired wide with only Buffon to beat.
Pessotto's deflected cross almost caught Molina by surprise at the near post, but the goalkeeper scrambled back to clear.
There was yet more bad injury developments for the Bianconeri as Paolo Montero pulled up with a suspected groin strain. Alessandro Birindelli came on, pushing Thuram in to central defence.
The Spaniards continued to push harder than a sluggish Juventus side and Luque blasted another angled drive wide before a decisive Thuram tackle prevented Tristan getting his shot in.
Antonio Conte bolstered the midfield to move Gianluca Zambrotta back to his left-back role.
Within seconds of stepping on to the pitch, the substitute nodded a Miccoli free kick inches wide of the far post.
Miccoli had a golden opportunity soon after when he charged on to Del Piero's through ball, but Molina rushed off his line to narrow the angle and the finish went over the bar.
The game sprung into life and Buffon changed direction very quickly to parry Victor's deflected shot from the edge of the box.
Deportivo made a rare defensive error with Andrade soon after, but Del Piero sliced horribly wide from six yards when it might have been easier to score.
There were plenty of scoring opportunities in this second half as Valeron turned a free header wide and a powerful Sergio free kick sailed over the bar as both sides were wasteful upfront.
The Bianconeri doctors were certainly kept busy, as Conte was accidentally kicked in the face and suffered heavy bleeding to his nose, but the veteran was able to carry on with uncomfortable padding. Conte was also booked in stoppage time and will miss the second leg.
Deportivo La Coruna: Molina; Scaloni, Andrade, Naybet, Romero; Victor (Manuel Pablo 84), Mauro Silva, Valeron, Sergio; Tristan (Pandiani 68), Luque (Fran 81)
Juventus: Buffon; Thuram, Legrottaglie, Montero (Birindelli 56), Pessotto (Conte 63); Zambrotta, Tacchinardi, Appiah; Nedved; Trezeguet (Miccoli 46), Del Piero

Marcello Lippi admits that Deportivo deserved to beat Juve on the night, but he remains confident of overturning this 1-0 defeat.
?All in all I?d say the result is the correct one,? confessed the Juventus Coach. ?Our real regret is a poor start with too many misplaced passes and extra space given to the Spaniards.?
?We had a great chance with Alessandro Del Piero in a one on one with the goalkeeper. As soon as we shook off our initial worries and began to play well, we conceded a goal.?
That winning strike was created when Lilian Thuram?s wayward header fell to Alberto Luque.
?There were mistakes all over the pitch, many of them very simple passes, and that was down to an initial psychological fear. We managed to shake that off and are confident going into the second leg.?
?Some of our players aren?t on top form at the moment, but the fact there were so many early errors and risks made everyone nervous.?
The second half fightback was dented by a series of injuries that saw two out of three substitutions forced upon Lippi.
?David Trezeguet and Paolo Montero went off in quick succession and we struggled to get back on track,? he explained, ?but even then went very close to scoring a goal with Fabrizio Miccoli.?
The Frenchman fell heavily on to his left shoulder after a collision with the goalkeeper and there are fears he could be sidelined for several weeks.
?Trezeguet will undergo tests to determine the extent of this strain in his shoulder and whether there are any tears in the muscle.?
Juventus were sluggish in Spain, but nonetheless had several scoring opportunities in the second half.
?Deportivo didn?t create a great deal after the break either, but this defeat does nonetheless make us hopeful of turning the result around in the second leg.?
Juventus have never won at the Riazor, but in their last three encounters the Bianconeri tended to have the better results in Turin.
?We are also confident by the fact that Deportivo are better at the Riazor than away,? added the tactician, ?but also that we have turned more damning first leg results around and have done well at the Delle Alpi this season. We will certainly need to do more, that is beyond doubt.?
Gianluca Pessotto had a similar view of the 90 minutes at the Riazor and revealed the players? interpretation.
?We struggled tonight because Deportivo are a very compact side that don?t tend to leave space at the back,? explained the fullback, ?so unless you really raise the tempo you won?t get behind their defence.?
?Most of their scoring opportunities were created by our own mistakes in midfield and that raised the tension throughout the team.?
?Despite Deportivo dominating possession to a degree,? he added, ?we still had the opportunities to equalise and that gives us confidence for the second leg.?
?It is crucial in football, especially on the continent, to take your chances when they come along. Currently we have a 49 per cent possibility of qualifying for the quarter-finals, but it is a situation that can easily be turned around.?

Lippi: ' there is lacked brilliance in some elements, confidence for ritorno'
To the term of the contest of Champions lost League 1-0 against Sport the Coruna, the trainer of the Juventus, Marcello Lippi, to the microphones of "Sky" has declared: "As we have never lost? The result is right, but with the sorrow that we have begun many contrati, granting many balls goal to they. Then we have had one beautiful occasion with Of the Piero. We have taken the goal when we were growing. Then we have lost Trezeguet and Montero. In according to time the sin that Miccoli has mistaken, dopodichè the Depor more has not been dangerous. We have contained one defeat that it makes to hope us for the return. Of negaticvo there is that we are not resolutions to express to us. The hope is born from the fact that they are better in house that outside? We more than once we have ribaltato it turns out to you, but it is chiato that it will have to make something more. Why we are you leave yourself badly? We have mistaken easy disengagements to testimony of a titubanza that then we have scrollati ourselves of back. We are trusting for the return. Lacks brilliance? In some elements yes, emphasized from the fact that we have mistaken endured some disengagements risking a lot. Trezeguet? There is from estimating if features of luxation or sublussazione of the shoulder ".

Juventus coach Marcello Lippi was happy with the result, despite losing last night 1-0 at Deportivo La Coruna.
Lippi also revealed that star striker David Trezeguet could be missing for three weeks, while defender Paolo Montero is also a doubt for the return-leg.
"A defeat is never positive, but the result tonight gives us hope for the return-leg," said Lippi. "I believe the game in Turin will be very different to what happened tonight.
"We didn't start the game very well, but as it went on we became stronger and had two good chances to score. We were on top when they scored their goal.
"I was very proud with how we responded after halftime. We were very effective, but needed to make more of our possession. But having said that, Miccoli had a great chance to get us a goal near the end."

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed he wants to sign Juventus striker David Trezeguet.
According to Italian media reports, Laporta told Juve chief Luciano Moggi last week: "After Davids, I want Trezeguet."
He also said, "It's still premature to talk about such things, but we are trying.
"I want to bring good players to Barcelona, who want to come here not for the money. Juve are a serious club and Moggi is a very clever operator.
"In exchange for Trezeguet, Moggi has asked me to name a player that I could sacrifice, but this is confidential and something I don't want to discuss in public."

indeed very disappointed. we can't even secure an away goal, that put us in disadvantages
a thorough deserved win for depor, they were the better team. the whole juve team played like they doesn't want to win the game. all players are underperforming, nedved was out of form again :(
we are strong at home but depor has a good balance and we might be thrashed at home. if depor manages an away goal in turin we'll be in deep ****. and if we conceed 2 goals, we can kiss CL goodbye :(

i agree that Depor deserved the win. I think the only player which is playing well last night was Buffon, he saved our a**.
Was Nedved hurt during the tackle? He was limping and din really run ard the field much after that.
Alex shld have scored the one-on-one situation with the gk.

u're stuck in between depor & milan
anyway life will be more difficult for juve now. not scoring an away goal at depor may prove very costly
BUT, although depor is a good team but dun forget, monaco thrashed them at home (8-3). so their away form are not as steady as playing at home. i hope u do well in the 2nd leg...

Serie A Week 23 - 29/2/04 (15.00)
Juventus - Ancona Preview
Stadio Delle Alpi
----------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus remain in the title chase by grinding out results and now welcome bottom of the table Ancona to the Delle Alpi.
The Bianconeri have notched up a series of uninspired but effective performances to take all the points off Bologna and Reggina in recent weeks, but always by a slender 1-0 scoreline. Perhaps of more concern than anything else is the fact that those goals were scored by a midfielder (Enzo Maresca) and defender (Mark Iuliano). Marco Di Vaio has stuttered after his early promise and has not scored in Serie A since November, while David Trezeguet is battling a muscular problem. There must be tactical changes due to Pavel Nedved’s one-match ban, so Stephan Appiah steps in to a more solid midfield.
Ancona may not have a single win under their belts, but there has been an improvement under new Coach Giovanni Galeone. The 0-0 draw with Scudetto hopefuls Roma remains the highlight of their campaign, but it should not be forgotten that this side has already caused problems for Juve. It took a 3-2 scoreline to finally get the better of these minnows at the Stadio Del Conero back in Week 6 and the memory of that game could boost their confidence. Mario Jardel and Milan Rapajc are both in doubt due to muscular problems, as goals continue to be the main issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus (probable): Buffon; Pessotto, Ferrara, Iuliano, Birindelli; Camoranesi, Tacchinardi, Appiah, Maresca; Miccoli, Di Vaio
Ancona (probable): Marcon; Helguera, Bolic, Baggio, Milanese; Andersson, Maini, Sommese; Grabbi, Rapajc, Bucchi
