I wonder if Fergie will use Roy Carrol / VDG for our Future games ?
I can't believe a professional like Barthez can make such a school boy mistake.

I think fergie will punish him...

It will be very difficult for us to win the league this year.. unless we keep winning/draw away games.

What the hell is man utd playing.
I think the whole team sucks yesterday, not only Bathez.
He's made alot of saves b3fore those errors.

I heard rumours from irc, ppl saying that Barthez won't play in the next match.

So far, I didn't hear any after-match comment on Barthez from Alex Fergerson.

But still, I believe that Barthez will play next week. Otherwise, its might seems an insult too much for him which might eventually lead to Barthez leaving man utd.

I'm a Liverpool fan...

But I dunno how to say, but feel kinda disappointed for Man Utd.

I always deem them as a team really good, and till now, though shaken, I still keep that faith.

I hope they can regain that killer touch they had; cos' at least, I still feel Man Utd is a "Hero", "Hero" as in a good team...

Having followed Man Utd's fortune since 1977,,,it is real sad to see them collaspsing into such a state,,sth tat Liverpool experienced after their last league title in 90 or 91? So will understand how the Kops felt when they were beaten 3-1 by Utd when David James was still there.

Fergie was desparate enuff to field Keane as a central back,,but Brown is definitely not a wing back...Keane partnering Brown in the central will be much better,,,,let Blanc have a "holiday"..

seem like deja vu..Liverpool ruled he 80s,,but the empire ceased after 91.....strange world indeed...

It's not that strange...nothing lasts forever. All things must pass to quote the late George Harrison. Milan of the early 90's, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Benfica of the 70's were once footballing empires who are now a fraction of their glorious past. To maintain a empire, u need to have a steady stream of youth talent coming in. I dun see that in manu's current youth system except Chadwick.

We may not win evey single season.... Its real hard for United to win this season ( quite impossible with the current form)

But well.. lets keep the faith to Fergie and his teams.

I'll say Liverpool or Leeds has a very good chance of winning... but who knows whether they can keep their consistency till the end of the season. Good luck to the rest of teams.

Yeah , actually this situation has happened to us for several times.

97/98
Keane was injured and would be out for the rest of the season.
But at that point ,even when we didn't has keane , we still did quite well in the league ( with 12 points ahead of Arsenal in christmas).. but once Giggs Injured, thats when the trouble came .. we lost and failed to score on some crucial matches which result in Arsenal winning the league ( they won 16 out of 18 games and draw 2 games )

98/99
In several ocassion , Giggs is also not playing due to Hamstring Injury .... but we have Jesper Blomqvist at that time , he was very good , almost as good as giggs, he did alot of assist and stuff , he is even better than Giggs in term of defending.

Thats why i'm kinda sad when blomqvist moved to Everton , he was my favourite player after Giggs.

I really think that if Fergie/Future managers wish to get a new player,he should get 1 Central Defence and 1 Midfield/forward with HIGH Creativity.

I also wonder whether Fergie should give Fortune another chances, he is simply not good enough for that position.

well.. our problem

1. Bad defending
2. Lack creativity in the midfield and forward
3. No self confidence in the player

fortune might need to seek his fortune elsewhere.......
I tot in the absence of giggs...."baboon" was the next best alternative.. wat Man Utd lacked is the competitiveness.....lots of players like to do ball watching.........recall how Veron did not bother to chase after his weak cross was intercepted which led to Chelsea second goal...

In short, I think the players had gone complacent...in their mind they feel tat they can always a 1 or 2 goal deficit in the last 10 mins.......but time had changed......Last year Man Utd won the title cos the other teams could not maintain their pace after leading till Dec... as Jimmy Armfield mentioned over BBC...it is not end of the world yet...if they can get some gud results in the rest of Dec....there is still hope...and believe if Utd do turn the thing ard ,,,it will be awesome !!!!!!!

Anyway...let's enjoy each game as it is ,...hopefully

his parting statement was
,,,,:
""I think when you have a bad spell like this, it's up to you to do something about it. It's also a challenge and that's a great part of being a football manager.

"It's not just about being up there at the top as we have been for the last few years. It's also about accepting the challenge and trying to correct things when they don't go right. At the moment we have to correct things.

"I relish the challenge, absolutely. That challenge will start when the players come into training tomorrow."

Sir Alex Ferguson, talking to United Radio 1413am,
Old Trafford, 1 December 2001. "

Great to see that he's so concerned. At least he knows there're things to correct. I hope that he will make the right change.
I think what they need most is an easy next fixture and get back the winning touch. Removing Fortune will be a great start. (IMO)

Hmm let's see, next match against West Ham and we'r at the "fortress" again.

For the left midfield position , We has a very good and promising youngster in the left midfield position , his name is Borjan Djordic (?) .. he is highly rated by all the coaches in the team. I think he already scored 1 goal in the senior team.. a wonderful goal if i may add... the goal against Celtic in Boyd's testimonial

Or

Yorke can play as left winger as well.. he has some experiences in that position.

Or

if everything else fail , try Silvestre , his dribbling skill is quite good :D.

wunder if Fergie will stick with Blanc with the recovery of Johnsen.
but still Blanc will likely to start on wed nights....

maybe a fresh lineup will see keane partnering may in central defence...and nevile & irwin on the flanks.

Just hope tat Fergie will stop his 4-5-1 approach,,,,,,it is not working,,,,

With a new coach which the players are not familiar with?
Not very likely my friend. It takes time to get use to the new coach's tactics and his ideas. Not to mention missing key players like Veron who could be leaving after Fergie's retirement.

I think Keane may partner blanc then....
Veron and Scholes in the center is not too bad...at least they can play 442...maybe they need to adapt and be more domineering without keane up there.

Hmm was kind of thinking that keane is a domineering kind of player...likes to command and shouts around. So does the oder Blanc? Wonder how he will feels if he is ordered around by Keane.

Half Time
1-0 to Man Utd
Ruud scored.
A funny line up.
I suppose veron play on the right? And scholes on the left?
Or they play 4-3-3

1 Fabien Barthez
12 Phil Neville
6 Laurent Blanc
2 Gary Neville
27 Mickael Silvestre
8 Nicky Butt
18 Paul Scholes
16 Roy Keane
4 Juan Veron
19 Dwight Yorke
10 Ruud van Nistelrooy

Substitutes
13 Roy Carroll
22 Ronnie Wallwork
30 John O'Shea
7 David Beckham
15 Luke Chadwick
25 Quinton Fortune
20 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

lets console ourselves abit.....

fergie said they can only afford 6 loses which was achieved yesterday,,,...but looking at the last few years..Man Utd only starts to loose in the last 10 games of the season....last season,,I believed they lost 3 or 4 times in a row. so maybe tis year they will lose all the quota games within the month of Dec and start to increase gear from now on? is this fergie's strategy ?

bo pian sometime have to console ourselves..but based on current form,,,they r in the running for the TOTO cup..
not bad we have yet to try that trophy..

With the superb form of Hendry, Pires and Ljunberg...they are a real danger now.

I think if Man Utd continue this kind of inconsistent run, Man Utd might well be the 4th with Leeds, Liv, and Arse taking the top 3 position.

jmi
16-12-2001, 01:17 AM
Agreed, Shingoz. Great inspirational performance by Giggs.

The match definitely turned around when Giggs came on. The problem with the 4 man midfield of Keane, Veron, Scholes, Butt was that it did not stretch the Boro defence as all of them are not wingers and attacks were limited.

With Giggs operating as the winger, it was obvious that Boro defence could not cope with wingers and gaps appeared all over the place. Boro couldn't close Giggs down fast enough. In fact, van Nistelrooy could have scored one more if Southgate hadn't illegally restrained him from a clear run at goal.

Newcastle, Spurs won. So that means Newcastle is tied with Arsenal on 2nd. Spurs on level with Man Utd.

In all honesty, I don't see Man Utd qualifying for 3rd spot much less winning the title if they perform as they did today without Giggs.

Hope Chelsea draws with Liverpool and Leeds lose to Leceister (naaaaaah........) :)

but from soccernet,,,it seemed that giggs is back to his old self again !!!!!......So if tonite game between liverpool & chelsea ends in a draw or a win for chelsea.
The whole league will be opened up again.....it will be tough like fergie said,,,,but the world will not remember who will lead the table ib dec, jan or mar...it is who head the table at the end of May.

i don't think beckham will play... as i feel Ferguson is trying to tell him tat being a star player doesn't give him the authority to give lousy performances... maybe after against southampton then he will play. Man Utd shouldn't sell him unless they really have players tat can cover his position and have the passing ability of his (don't think so hard i HATE Beckham but i like his passing ability {Giggs is my favourite player in Man Utd})

Don't get too carried away.

On current form, 3 teams look dangerous.

Arsenal - main contenders
Leeds - once Bowyer is settled down, they look good. I hope they don't win on a consistent basis. I can't stand the sight of a team of thugs and a whining hypocritical boss winning this.
Liverpool - possible but wild card of Anelka may actually damage Liverpool's chances.

Outside
======
Chelsea - won't take long for those over achievers to come up with another display like the 1st half of yesterday's match.
Newcastle Utd - Shearer is a spent force. Bellamy still lacks the maturity of a finisher. Too much reliance on Solano and Dyer.

Man Utd looks good. They are starting to kick into gear and are slowly finding their feet again. All the wins so far were done without the services of mostly Giggs, Beckham, Cole, Yorke, Brown, O'Shea, Johnsen, Irwin etc.

The REAL major test will come against Newcastle on Jan 2.

If Man Utd reaches their peak around Feb, it will be good.

The first half was forgettable. MU really laboured as Everton pressed forward.

In the 2nd half, MU started to pry open the Everton defence. Fergie's decision to take off Butt and put in Beckham was tactical. It was Beckham's bullet cross onto Giggs that created the opening goal. Fantastic football.

Giggs then outpaced the Everton defence before crossing in a curler right onto van Nistelrooy who fired the ball into the net.

Veron almost scored when he put in a ferocious dipping shot that the keeper pulled off a miraculous save.

The Everton defence was pretty good to have held up for so long.

Having seen MU's terrible 1st half display, I don't think MU will win anything this season.

Seem like Utd was using the last few min as shooting practise,,,,,,the first one by Veron was just tipped over by the Everton keeper,,,while the second one was nondescript....

as mentioned, the first half was dominated by Everton who was just unlucky,,,but I tot the chest down by Ruud for Ole to shoot was quite brilliant.

anyway nice to see a Beckham trademark cross that resulted in a goal.....and the second one was equally started with Ole releasing Giggs on the left and he was screaming for the ball but Giggs cross it to Ruud , thx to the defender who slipped.

3 points earned,,hope more to come.

The defender didn't slip. He tried to stop the ball from reaching Nistelrooy (there was no way he could have stopped Nistelrooy who had pulled far right away from him) but Gigg's pass was a major curler across the face of the goal.

There have been strong rumours that Man Utd just put Andy Cole up for sale for 10million pounds without his knowledge.

Despite what some critics say about Cole, I hope it's not true. Cole's distribution and ability to hold up the ball is better than any of the other 3 strikers. And he is a Red through and through.

I'd rather MU sell Yorke.

 Blackburn has clinched the signing of Andy Cole from Manchester United on a three-and-a-half year contract and now, Man Utd should sign Andriy Shevchenko to replace the Number 9 vacancy.

yeah....Cole have signed for Blackburn...
He have improved since transfering from newcastle to MU.......especially on holding up the ball and his movement in the box. But he took too many chances to put the ball into the net, unlike Ruud Van.....

Ruud Van need to improve......but he dun need too many chances to score.
