need help for Surfing/whatsapp on BB with iphone plan.

Hi,

Been trying to find online on information about this, but am not really resourceful.

Thus, Would like to start a thread on this topic hoping to get the answer and also a platform to help all iphone-switch-BB user on this issue.

Problem : I've recently gotten a bb 9780 but am on iphone plan.

Research :

-You will need "BIS"(black berry's internet svc) to use it's BB only app such as BBM etc.

-However, you will be able to use the normal browser to surf net / whatsapp if you change the APN settings(strictly not the BB's dedicated apps).

-For APN settings there are different settings for different telco.

-If APN settings is not change there might be additional charges to your bills as you will be using some other form of internet (gprs or something?)

Solution :

1 ) Get a new BB plan which has BB data.

2 ) Call to add on value added svc at a certain charge per month.

3 ) This is what I'm actually looking for, how do I change the APN setting or anything to surf net and use whatsapp on my BB with iphone plan and not get charged extra.

- What are the APN setting codes?
. Singtel
. Starhub
. M1

- How and where to go about changing it?

I sincerely hope that this will be a informative thread for all HWZ user like myself who have just changed into BB from iphone.

Hope you guys can help provide info and also correct me if anything is wrong.

I will edit as needed and hopefully this thread will be sticky someday.

Cheers,
Tips.

Answered: BlackBerry FAQ

Do take note, however, that WA connection has a high tendency to disconnect (message not sent out/received) after a short while IF you are not using the correct (you mentioned in ur "solution") plan. This is a known issue and this is a perk for those on the correct plan.

to change APN settings, goto Option > Device > Advance System Settings > TCP IP
or simply type "TCP IP" on the search~

i dun think u will able to surf if ur APN settings is not set correctly (those w/o BIS), so additional charge does not exist~

Vinz u back alr ah? sms me la. Haha

Simple. Read the faq. I happy I once awhile got post WA links.

But WA may and may not work. Also, exchange email may be possible. Just pay $90 and then cannot update os etc. If he does then need pay again. Else, just pay $9 a month for bis.

Enable data as well. If it doesn't, do a full destruction of data then try setting up again.

The easiest way out is top up for bis which enables everything making everything frustration free.

Its funny how u all have to set APN and **** . While my bb can surf normal web, opera and what'sapp flawlessly without need to change a thing out of a box. Just that can't use facebook app BUT* web page facebook is working fine . Whatsapp don't go dead after a while. Never drop connection before
