it really depends on how much you wanna detour and how long you can wait.. if you got some time to spare and don't mind slight "detour", quite certainly can get..
let's say yesterday.. I was going back to jurong from seng kang past mid night.. distance wise I think around 35km via tpe-sle-kje-pie 30mins drive.. I chose to hitch.. so I picked up from serangoon to dhoby ghaut.. then from city hall to bukit batok.. distance should be less than 45km..
i got $20 for the 2 trips.. let's say it's difference is 10km.. petrol wise take it as 1 litre, around $1.5 after all discount.. i still "earn" $18.. to detour it's definitely worth it..
however after adding the waiting/searching time I took 1 hour more to get back home.. so it may not be worth it to some..
Yah I agree. It depends on how much you value a dollar and the potential inconvenience.
Today got another passenger cancel on me. OK, not even cancel. I had to do it for him! I SMS him about 30 minutes before the ride then he tell me he's on MC so he's not going to his destination. I ask him to cancel the request then but he said he don't know. He sounds like a decent chap so OK lah.
I also find the app a bit confusing sometimes. Like when I first started I didn't know how to access the ride info after I accepted it. Only after pressing around all over the screen did I realise some text can be tapped on. Not very obvious (it didn't look like a button). I myself took a while to figure out how to cancel the guy's ride for him.
Thinking about it all these small things add up and can put drivers off. I think drivers are willing to try once but if it's not smooth they won't give it another shot.
One of my passengers said he has only a 1 out of 10 success rate from GrabHitch so he doesn't really pay it much attention. But this guy not bad got strategy to taking Uber/Grab and the sequence he follows. I guess meeting interesting folks like him can be a plus for GrabHitch.
