Been told by a car mechanic that this is a common toyota estima problem. It's a steering rack problem. My brother in law bought brand new 2012 estima and within a couple of months, the tick sound can be heard. Diagnosed was a steering rack issue.

So with this steering rack issue, is it advisable to replace the whole sterring rack? or just live with the sound. Having said that, will it be dangerous with this steering rack issue?

The sound may still come back upon replacing it with a brand new unit. Its not guaranteed that the sound will go away for good although it's replaced. Some is loud and some is soft.

I bought a 07 Estima model and was told (seen a receipt for replacement) that the rack was replaced by the agent before the car was put for sale. I bought the car and realized that there is still some sound when we turn the steering wheel.

It's the same common problem of chevrolet Captiva. Bought brand new (Aug 2007) before I sold it to buy the second hand Estima. My Captiva steering wheel rack was replaced by the agent 3X during the warranty period. It's really a problematic car in my opinion. Regret it buying it.

Been to the workshop a couple of times, they also told me that the sound will still return after changing to a new steering rack. They said that it is the design of the car that caused this problem. :/

Hi,

Steering "click or tick" usually comes towards the end of a full lock right. Had it even when the car was new.
Anw, the steering feel is very mushy.

The roll on this car is also terrible. Odyssey / touran ftw!
