What are the benefits of getting Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) ?

Basically,

Learn the “hacker” mindset - You will learn before others do..
Gain an understanding of risks and vulnerabilities on computer security..
Learning how malicious attackers use various tools allows security professionals to better secure their networks, applications, and other assets. The level of insight gained by becoming a CEH allows security pros to look at exploits and vulnerabilities objectively and to spot potential attack vectors and weaknesses before the hackers do.
Expand career opportunities and attain a unique and significant title..

Every company will not want their information to be at risk. Have understanding of Hacking is definitely good for you!

It's true Chris, although in reality you may just spend time doing the reportings. I still believe if you wouldn't have the overview and basics on the topic. You hardly understand what's the theory behind and do not really know how the system works right?

If a person who is discipline on self learning then i think they don't really need to attend training. In reality many people are overloaded with many other things. I believe that attending training will still helps as people hardly have time to self study :)

Is ceh better than OSCP or OSCE?? Does CEH really make u a hacker ?? You said ceh taught about virus creation will they teach you something like polymorphic code metamorphic code and its payload etc.... Do they provide you an environment for you to practice your skills???

If i am not wrong CEH uses backtrack???

OSCP or OSCE come from offensive security. It is oversea certification by US. Singapore has its own version by ThinkSecure (with citrep fundings too).

Regardless it is US or Singapore, it is tested by 100% hands on. CEH is 100% MCQ.

If you are building a foundation on security, CEH is ideal. If you have security background, hands-on certification are ideal.

Just to add on, CEH is the basic level for penetration learning. EC Council has ECSA and LPT. Both are achievable.

Yep, nicely summed up.

The thing about CEH is that there are individuals who brain dump the whole thing, so it dilutes the value.

competency test in terms of MCQs are the common standards for certifications.

ISACA, ISC2, EC Council, Microsoft, Sans, Comptia, Novell, Cisco, ITIL. These "brands" of certifications do use MCQs.

As stated, CEH is to build the foundation. If taking MCQs as competency test is a joke, you are always welcome to opt out for the competency test. But no certification will be given for completing the course. Only certification of participation will be given by the training center(s).
