Hi. I am nus accountancy undergrad. I plan to audit in Singapore big 4 for 3 years in Singapore before transferring to overseas big 4 (maybe UK ?? Aus? US?? Not sure).

Should i take acca or sqp?? Pls advice.
Take acca.
If u are sure of going to aussie.. Take cpa Australia or CA Australia.

Not sure if the big4 here allows you to take ICAEW or CPA(Aus) or ACCA, but i would rather do those.

My opinion on SQP differs from most: the programme has not lived up to the hype it generated. Notwithstanding a rather abrupt name-change from SQP to Singapore CA qualification (presumably because SQP is confusing to a foreign audience), the marketability of a Singaporean-qualification is questionable if one is looking for an international career. Not many foreigners know where Singapore is; they have certainly heard of it, but would they think a qualification from Singapore is superior to one in the UK?

Another area where SQP has not done that well is in the setting of examinations. In contrast to other bodies in UK and Aussie having clearly-defined learning outcomes that correlate to exam questions, there have been comments from SQP candidates that the SQP questions often tested remote areas from the syllabus. But of course, maybe the programme is new and we ought to give it some time.

The main point is this: Not everything that is "official" will work out great. Having a "Singaporean CA qualification" is not necessarily an advantage compared to having a foreign qualification. [CFA(Singapore) anyone]?

What does a Singaporean accounting qualification offer that others don't? An established history? A well-recognized brand? A syllabus that is more advanced? In my humble opinion, they are simply trying to use the country as a selling point with no real differentiation.

The last point, and also the most important, is that the SQP is getting mutual recognition with several bodies, thus eventually, it may not matter which body you choose to qualify with. So there, just choose whichever you want then (easiest? most interesting? fastest time to completion?).
+1 to that

To add on, cpa Singapore is only useful if you plan to be an audit partner in Singapore. (people with other qualifications would need to convert to cpa Singapore in order to sign off as audit partner)

Hi Guys,

Im thinking of going the tax route, instead of Audit. As I personally enjoy tax-related work more.

Anyone can enlighten me on how the life of a tax associate at the Big 4 is like? Seem to find mostly audit experiences.

And I heard that once u join the tax route, it is hard to turn back. Is this true?

Thank you
Would like to know this also, out of curiosity. So far I only know that tax is a very specialised skillset, so can't turn back. Also less exit opportunities.

Hi guys

Just gotten an interview for Financial services tax from EY. Would really love to hear some insights into this area. How different is it from Corporate tax?
