Verdict

If you’re a Canon full-frame DSLR user who’d like a fast, well-built, optically stabilised medium telephoto prime lens, be prepared to fall in love with the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM. The image quality and centre sharpness it’s capable of wide-open is very impressive. While it’s not exactly cheap at £1569, it’s a price that serious photographers won’t mind splashing out on to give their shots the edge over others.

Rented both the Sigma and Canon ones recently. It's a good lens for shooting concerts and stage. It does focus a whole lot faster than the 85mm f1.2 which is fantastic for event, but that doesn't matter that much in the studio. I'd say it's definitely competition for the Sigma, it just boils down to whether you want to shell out the extra $ for the IS. To me, not so much la. I think I'll go with sigma for future rentals.

I feel the Canon f/1,4L IS is more practical for outdoor like
faster AF, mechanical focus, weather seal, IS, etc etc

but the f/1,2L is magical....
have to be careful when mounting the backside. afraid of damaging....
