Good Day,

I am seriously considering going for the Part-Time Diploma In Infocomm & Digital Media (IT Network & System Administration) offered by NanYang Polytechnic.

I am already in my 40s and wanted to have a local diploma so that I can apply for a job that I am interested in school (non-teaching) or hold a better position in most MNCs.

Although I have a bit and pieces of 15+ years of experience in IT industry throughout my career, I cannot get or hold the job I want or desire in the IT industry due to my educational level. Because of that, I have not developed good skills for better jobs. I hope once I completed my diploma, I can changed that and broaden my limited skill sets.

Please help give advises on this course if you are currently taking or completed and share your experience here.

I currently holds a Higher NITEC In Network Security Technology with an average GPA 4 but applying for my ideal and dream full-time diploma (Diploma In Network Systems & Security) is not possible as I have studied in Poly before but withdrawn/not completed (family and financial reasons) many years ago and recently as vacancies for this course are extremely limited and I will be at the bottom-end of the list when comes to the selection process for Poly regardless of my GPA score.

So if I will to try to apply for a full-time diploma that matches closely with the Ngee Ann Poly Diploma In Network Systems & Security with less strict and more vacancies available course will be NanYang Poly Diploma In Engineering Informatics which I will try to apply when their DAE opens today.

Although I already heard that this part-time diploma cannot be used to enter local Universities such as NUS, NTU, SMU.... but I also heard that a bro here got entry to UniSIM with this diploma.

The discussion here will help me determine if I go for this part-time diploma or go for a full-time diploma in Poly. DAE for SP and NYP starts today till 28 Feb, so I will have about less than 4 days to consider which option to take. Therefore, I hope bros or sis here can give me some advises on this part-time course or feedback about the courses in general will be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
Calvin

Yeah, agree that it will be near impossible but I'll still try as last time I test with my O levels and both NYP and RP responded with course offered but not 1st choice so rejected it...my O levels sucks so can't use it to directly apply for the course I want in Poly.

Just an update, anyway I have go thru the DAE to apply for full time courses in 3 Poly this week as the DAE ends on Friday.

I have intend to apply for a scholarship with no bonds once I am able to get a course of my choice.

There is still a chance of me not getting a full time course in Poly due to being a ex-Poly student before.

So if this DAE fails, I will confirm go for the part-time diploma whether I can enter local university or not or can get a job in ITE or not.

Thank you everyone for reading and giving advise.

I have been offered full-time diploma from NYP and RP and NP during the DAE and my age is 40+ years old. So if have definitely not 24 years old max.:D

However, I rejected both NYP and RP because not my choice of course and for NP it is my choice but I have to withdraw because I cannot afford the school fee at that time ($1,270) I think per semester.

For this part-time diploma, I was told by NYP it last intake is at OCT so I think application may open from August or September latest. NYP told me to subscribe to their courses offer notification via email so I will not miss the application period. Subscribe to courses offer notification at NYP website.

If you are attempting the part-time diploma @ NYP, when you subscribe to the course they will most likely email you on June to announce their intake. So if the enrollment went well you should be starting your first sem on Oct.

In the meantime best that you can prep yourselves with Networking and Linux/Win administration, it will help you along the way.

Best of luck!

Any good short Networking and Linux/Windows administration courses to recommend while I wait for the Part-Time Poly application?

hmmm what im currently learning in NYP was relatively Cisco Network Switching & Routing, Windows Server 2008 and Redhat Linux as these were the modules covered in the first year. But of course there are also other topics like IT Service Management, Project Management, InfoSecurity, Green Computing, Cloud Computing etc which will also be part of the modules.

I believe anything that you have not learnt is useful in some way or another. It depends what you want to achieve.

PS: Even if you are certified with either CCNA, ITIL v3, MCITP or Redhat before enrollment they will not allow you to bridge modules. FYI.

I also did learn abit of Cisco Network Switching & Routing like CCNA 1 & 3, Windows Server 2008 and Redhat Linux during my study of Higher Nitec Part time but u know is a 6mth module which is rush to cover all. Lecture just ask us to learn here and there.. although i learn but not familiar because too rush liao

think what learn in Higher Nitec IT is similar to Poly yr 1 or 2 to learn the basic before go specialist module. BUt it good to learn again...

Maybe will take one module in Networking on Higher Nitec during this coming 2nd round intake.

Thanks for the heads up. I do not intend to skip or ask for exemption on any modules. In fact, if I go for the part-time diploma, I will like to enhance my knowledge before the course starts in Oct.

Will see if the Poly NICF courses are still available.

I believe you should not have any problems handling the part time dip then.

You are or already have studied Higher NITEC, there are short courses which I have checked on the web in Singapore Poly that conduct NICF IT ccourses ranging from 3-9 months. I planning to go for that instead of going back to Higher NITEC part-time :)

I already grad from higher nitec (now waiting for final exam result, if pass i got my cert, but most likely will pass de:s13:).

But i may go back and take one module cert just for 6mth, as their intake is around april and end sept. Just nice can apply the coming intake for poly on oct. :s13::s13:

Want to know the basic first.

The PDF here says the next intake is intake 2....
http://www.rp.edu.sg/uploadedFiles/...TDIS Intake 2, MC in Business Application.pdf

So means the current batch is the pioneer batch?
And which modular certificate is the current batch doing?
The website doesn't state...

Hmm....This is a totally different Part-Time Diploma course compared to NYP which I will be taking comes Oct 2014.
