Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac may make their league debuts for Arsenal, but Alexis Sanchez is ruled out with an abdominal strain.

Laurent Koscielny is banned, while Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are fitness doubts.

Leicester midfielders Danny Drinkwater and Vicente Iborra are unavailable because of muscle problems.

Defender Robert Huth is recovering from ankle surgery and is set to be replaced by summer signing Harry Maguire.

Kelechi Iheanacho could also make his debut, although the former Manchester City striker may struggle to last 90 minutes, while winger Riyad Mahrez should be involved despite being a transfer target for Roma.

-----

Watford
are set to give debuts to some of their new signings, who include record £18.5m purchase Andre Gray and Brazilian forward Richarlison.

Troy Deeney is a doubt following recent groin surgery, while Christian Kabasele and Craig Cathcart are out.

Liverpool are without Philippe Coutinho, who has a back problem, but captain Jordan Henderson should be fit after recovering from a virus.

Fellow midfielder Adam Lallana faces two months out with a thigh injury.

Daniel Sturridge won't play on Saturday because of a muscle problem but could return against Hoffenheim on Tuesday.

-----

Chelsea
will begin their title defence without Eden Hazard and new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko, who are both injured.

Pedro is sidelined by an ankle injury and Victor Moses is banned as a result of his red card in the FA Cup final but there could be debuts for Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Morata.

Burnley have made five summer signings, including Jack Cork and Charlie Taylor.

Another new recruit, Jon Walters, is likely to replace the departed Andre Gray up front.

-----

Wayne Rooney will make his first league appearance for Everton in 13 years, while Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane are among the likely debutants.

Midfielders Ross Barkley and James McCarthy are out with groin and knee injuries respectively.

There could be Stoke debuts for Darren Fletcher, Max Choupo-Moting and on-loan Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.

Manager Mark Hughes says Saido Berahino, whose fitness was questioned last season, is "in great shape".

-----

Southampton
say unsettled defender Virgil van Dijk is unavailable for their opening game because of a virus.

New Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino has no major injury concerns and could field summer signings Mario Lemina and Jan Bednarek.

Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is a transfer target for Everton, will not be involved on Saturday.

Ki Sung-yueng, Nathan Dyer and Fernando Llorente are injured but Roque Mesa and Tammy Abraham could make their debuts.

-----

Crystal Palace
defender Jairo Riedewald could make his Premier League debut after an £8m move from Ajax.

Yohan Cabaye, James McArthur, Bakary Sako, Connor Wickham and Pape Souare are all injured.

Huddersfield's record signing Steve Mounie and winger Tom Ince are among nine summer recruits hoping to play.

Newly-appointed captain Tommy Smith should be fit after a foot injury but Jonathan Hogg and Nahki Wells are both out with ankle problems.

-----

New signings Jay Rodriguez and Ahmed Hegazi are set to make their West Brom debuts against Bournemouth.

Gareth McAuley is sidelined with a thigh problem, while James Morrison is unavailable because of a knee injury.

Jermain Defoe will make his Premier League bow for Bournemouth if he overcomes a groin injury, but Junior Stanislas is out with a similar issue.

Asmir Begovic and defender Nathan Ake are in contention following their respective moves from Chelsea.

-----

Brighton
will assess winger Anthony Knockaert, who is close to a return after injuring ankle ligaments in July.

New signings Davy Propper, Mat Ryan, Pascal Gross and Markus Suttner could feature but Beram Kayal and Sam Baldock are both ruled out.

Manchester City may give debuts to Kyle Walker, Danilo and Ederson but Benjamin Mendy is out with a thigh problem.

Fellow new recruit Bernardo Silva is available but he could lack match fitness after an extended summer break.

-----

Winger Jacob Murphy and defenders Javier Manquillo and Florian Lejeune could make their debuts for Newcastle.

Dwight Gayle is set to be available despite a recent hamstring problem but DeAndre Yedlin is out with a similar injury.

Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier suffered minor ligament damage last weekend and will miss out, along with Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

Danny Rose and Erik Lamela are still sidelined by long-term injuries.

-----

Jose Mourinho is likely to give Man Utd new signings Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic their Premier League debuts.

Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo are all long-term absentees, with the latter recovering from a knee injury.

All four of West Ham's major summer signings are available, meaning Javier Hernandez is likely to start against his former club.

Michail Antonio, Manuel Lanzini, Cheikhou Kouyate, Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakh are out injured.

snippets of new season: new rules

Bans for diving

Players who dive or feign injury in English football will face bans under new Football Association regulations.

Under the new rules, passed by the governing body at its annual general meeting in May, a panel will review footage each Monday looking for cases of simulation.

Any player unanimously found guilty of diving will be given a suspension.

---

New ball

The official competition match ball will be the Nike Ordem V, described as giving "optimal touch and feel with its updated bladder".

A hi-vis version will be introduced when the clocks change from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time in the autumn.

---

Video replays for doctors

Video technology will be allowed into technical areas in an effort to better protect players from the damages of concussion.

Club doctors and physios will now be able to watch replays of any injury sooner after it has happened. Previously, footage could only be reviewed in the tunnel.
