[GrabCar / Uber] Discussion Thread for New Drivers Lip Lai!!

So I am considering for a GrabCar driver and today I did went down to MidView and check whats going on.

Ironically, the signs there led drivers to GrabCar Office will see Uber HQ first.

Ya, TLDR:

- Both need ACRA, for a sole proprietary (Not Private Limited), it costs $65 and needs to renew annually with $20.

- Uber minimum age 25, GrabCar is 23 instead (According to GrabCar company rental) OR 22 IF you / your bf-gf or your lao beh lao bu got car.

- My age not qualified for Uber, despite the queue there is way busier than GrabCar.

- According to GrabCar rental company, there is a 1 year contract (New car) or a 3 month contract (Used Car).

- Luckily, can go outside source rental car which is usually in weekly basis.

- At least GrabCar Driver MUST use Android. (Fark you CCB, I hate the programming in Android where the tool to build the App is farking crap, way lousy than Visual Studio - my first tool used in poly days.)

They claimed Android is more secure, but my foot......

So, is it a good job for uni student during their Dec vacation since I am NOT going for any vacation in the first place ?

I don't know if it is a good one to commit to, and if the business is good and manageable, there is always another longer vacation between May to July.

Oh yeah, you may want to ask:

1) Why don't find other part time / free lance job?

- Flexible work usually pay too little. Mine current part time pays $8 per hour (Weekday) & $10 per hour (Weekends / PH)

2) Why would I want to consider switch to another part time job?

- Job scope can be either drink server in one of the casino (Cannot choose non-smoking area despite being non-smoker and hence the likeliness to inhale second hand smoke for 6.5 hours per work day)

- They do NOT pay $10 PH rate if it falls on non-standard PH. I specifically refers to they pay only $8 per hour for SG50 in Aug 7 as well as polling day.

I have checked with MOM, basically the SG50 is not gazetted and hence cannot kpkb. As for polling day, due to the work nature is a casual labour unlike typical part-timers, hence also cannot kpkb.

- The worst part is how they turn away people when there is more than enough manpower. Sorry, no reimbursement for transport forgetting about the lost income opportunity. At least Aircraft carriers gives discount when they reject your seat.

Generally you need the following things:

1) NRIC

2) Driving License

2a) Taxi Driver Vocational License - TDVL for extra $50 bonus. But my age ah... Fark it.

3) A referral from friend who is also a GrabCar driver. Otherwise, you will be missing out the $150 credit welcome bonus (Which is anyway used to offset the 20% commission taken by the GrabCar).

- No I did not sign up as a GrabCar driver because I said I only intend to drive by Dec 3 (After my exams).

4) A POSB / DBS bank account (For faster cashing out of Credit / Debit Card payments into your account)

5) The rest like ACRA, photograph taking all can be done in the office. Even getting a farking Android is now on promo @ $100 (Cash, but this $100 entry level device is again recycle into credit so that you pay less commission overall).

- BTW, all the cash you get from the fare you keep. But you need to pay in cash on the "Credit" in order to receive call jobs.

So if your Credit is left $1, you will not receive any job except a $5 fare.

Sorry, the hire purchase part I have no idea as I do not own a car.

My best bet is that you are not allowed to do so but if can confirm with ur side will be better.

Afterall, there is a vehicle log to submit as well (should b available on request to the rental side)

Uber now claim $5,000 and GrabCar says $6,000 in fares.

So unless you do not have any car loan (That prevents conversion to commercially registered car), you can't really earn more than $2,000 realistically after factoring car rental (Their leaflet of suggested car rental co are charging with $65 per day and $1,000 deposit for 3 months contract) and petrol.

Need to go down and ask.

But, I think you car might be too old for them.

The top driver in Uber do earn > $8,000 in fares and is highlighted in their hq.

But how long do they drive and type of vehicle driven, IDK.

Walau, this thread I would like to see those experienced in such trade suggest if it is a good job to work in long vacation or not. The CPF eat my 20% for this kind of short term job seemed too much.
