[SCROOBAL] Rebecca and Gabriel Loh - "No one gets left behind" - West Coast Rd Tragedy

From: Rebecca and Gabriel Loh - "No one gets left behind"

This is one of the saddest stories in recent times and despite my best attempts not to politicise things that have no basis to do so, I went berserk when I saw the photos of the 4 clowns in grassroots attire at the front door of their house and realised that these arseholes were trying to make political capital of someone's misfortune.

Now which arsehole told the nation that "no gets left behind". Tell that to Rebecca and Gabriel Loh. No help, no hope and reliant on $1,000 every month which the grandmother earned to support 3 mouths, pay medical bills and a young mother who could not work as she had to take care of her son who had frail legs and a failed liver. And the it only a few days ago we found a civil servant forking out $10milion to buy an apartment. No, it was not the CEO of a major business but a ****ing civil servant of a tiny island that was supposed to be doomed it did not bring 6.9m people real quick.

Where were the 4 ****ing grassroots clowns in uniform before the Gabriel left the world. And which idiot suggested sending the 4 clowns to the house. And why in uniform. The decent thing was to send an empathic individual to make discrete inquiries about any help need. Were the uniforms and the numbers to show the world that the PAP cares and to play to the public gallery.

What were the 4 clowns uniform going to do. One hold the tissue box, the second pull out the tissue, the third wipe the tears and the fourth one disposes of the tissue. You can't make this up. Reminds me of 2004 when then defeated Potong Pasir Clown Sitoh for political capital began the hunt for the missing 9 year old Filipino girl and made the papers.

ST Report on 3 June:

Mother seen with son before he fell

Woman held for murder was also sitting on window ledge: Neighbour

Top of The News | By Jalelah Abu Baker

MOMENTS before a nine-year-old boy was found at the foot of his block, he and his mother were seen at the kitchen window of their fifth-floor West Coast Road flat.

Gabriel Loh, nine, died in hospital less than an hour after police found him lying unconscious at the bottom of Block 704, where he lived with his 31-year- old mother and his grandmother.

The mother, who was arrested for the suspected murder of her young son last Saturday, was also seen crying at the window.

A neighbour, who lives in the opposite block in West Coast Road, told The Straits Times yesterday about what she saw of the incident.

The 40-year-old accounts assistant had gone to the kitchen to wash her hands at around 6pm when she noticed the woman sitting on the ledge of the fifth-floor window.

She saw the woman go back in, only to return with her bespectacled son.

The boy, who attended a special school, was unconscious when police arrived. He was taken to the National University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 7pm. His mother, known only as Rebecca, was arrested later that day by police.

Believed to be an unemployed single mother, she was often seen pushing Gabriel around in a pram.

She would lift him from the pram to the chair and back at a nearby coffee shop, neighbours told The Straits Times.

Gabriel, who was described as having yellow skin and eyes because of jaundice, had a failed liver operation, according to a next-door neighbour who wanted to be known only as Madam Jah.

Rebecca would often appear troubled, walking with her head bowed and looking dazed while outside buying lunch, a report in Chinese evening daily Shin Min stated.

It also said that she had sought help for a mental problem about seven years ago.

She lived in the flat with her mother, who worked in a bakery. The two women, however, were often heard quarrelling and the police were called a few times, Shin Min reported.

Gabriel's grandmother was at the mortuary yesterday morning to identify his body. She was with two others, who appeared to be relatives. They declined to speak to the media.

When The Straits Times visited the block yesterday, members of the West Coast Green Residents' Committee were present to offer help to the family, but no one was in when they knocked on the door.

Chairman Tan Tuang Siang said that the family kept to themselves, and that other residents told him they would not take part in social activities.

Police were also seen making inquiries in the area.

There are many volunteer groups in the West and those that do the best job are the NGOs who have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY GOVERNMENT OR COUNCIL.

The NGOs come about because society actually cares. They may spend a portion of their time lobbying for government support but their primary role is looking after the less fortunate.

The PAP does not care because Singapore society as a whole does not care. A government is merely a reflection of the people.

Which is what I have been saying for ages - all we have is the gahmen we deserve. The only reason the gahmen keeps on harping on how we should be a more kind, caring, gracious society is to mask the fact that they themselves haven't any of those qualities. And we ought to know - we put them there.

Then again, I say we ought to, when we evidently don't.

And this is by no means an isolated case. Not the part about the alleged murder, but about the family needing assistance. Lots of poor families need assistance. Why the sudden change in policy now ?

Some highly-talented scholar-bureaucrat must have finally seen the opportunity for a kodak moment and sent his minions down to feign care and concern. Then again, they have no fucking discretion or sense of timing. Noob politicians at work again.

And the sad thing is that despite years and years of the best education that money (or at least their money) has to offer, Sinkies are still so damn thick when it comes to obvious political plays like this. Not surprising from a populace that has never experienced freedom, but only a semblance of.

Boy's fall: Mum charged with murder

Top of The News |

AN UNEMPLOYED woman was charged yesterday with the murder of her nine-year-old son, who fell to his death from their fifth-floor flat last Saturday.

Rebecca Loh Chui Lai, 31, is alleged to have committed the offence at her three-room West Coast Road home at Block 704 between 6.08pm and 7.03pm.

She displayed no emotion when the charge was read to her in a district court.

The short-haired, bespectacled woman was clad in a red polo shirt and blue bermudas.

Her son Gabriel Loh Zhen Jie was found unconscious at the foot of the block below the kitchen window. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The boy lived with his mother and grandmother and would sit in a baby stroller whenever he went out. Earlier, Chinese evening newspaper reports described him as appearing "thin and sickly" as a result of a failed liver operation.

The prosecution applied for Loh to be remanded for psychiatric assessment.

Loh, who was not represented, will be back in court on June 24.

If convicted of murder, she faces the death penalty.
