MG Chan Chun Sing wants to raise Singapore's fertility rate
 Getting more young people to marry is a challenge, says Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Major-General (NS) Chan Chun Sing. And tackling Singapore's low fertility rate will be a priority for his ministry, he said during a visit to the newly-renovated Registry of Marriages (ROM) and Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM) yesterday. Said MG (NS) Chan: "In the short term, we can look at various things like having better facilities ... But in the longer term, marriage is something you need to have that belief from young and you need to have a culture where people do not see the family as a burden." The new building at CanningRise was renovated at a cost of about S$4.2 million. The ROM and ROMM have been operating temporarily at the Ministry of National Development (MND) Building since January last year. Operations will resume at the new building on June 14. To facilitate the shift back to Canning Rise, the ROM and ROMM will be closed from this Saturday to June 13. During this period, the public can continue to call the ROM and ROMM main lines for assistance and enquiries. All online services will continue to be available. sauce: todayonline

first, he has to realise raising fertility rate is NOT only his ministry's job, but all the ministries' jobs because they all affect the decision.
