there is a chinese saying: it is very hard for the strongest man to escape a pretty woman's trap
------------------------------------------------------- During the second day of the sex-for-contracts case, the man at the centre of the trial revealed that he had to spend his life savings on fighting the case. Ng Boon Gay, former chief of the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), told this to an unidentified member of the public who had attended the day's trial. The latter approached Ng to speak to him during a recess. Shin Min Daily News reported that Ng answered the questions patiently. He said that fighting the case was not cheap, and he would have to use his life savings to afford his legal fees. The member of the public encouraged Ng and wished him well. An estimate of the cost of his legal fees came to about $500,000, reported Shin Min. His lawyers, Senior Counsel Tan Chee Meng and Melanie Ho, command hourly fees that range in thousands and up to $800 respectively. Meanwhile, Ms Cecilia Sue Siew Nang, the second witness called up by the prosecution, turned up at court this morning dressed in a dark suit and skirt ensemble, with her eyes covered by a pair of glasses. She managed to avoid the media by heading straight to a concealed witness room and stayed in there throughout the trial, only coming out once to use the toilet.
