SingTel to double charges for mobile users who exceed their monthly data bundle

Hohoho, stinktel customer, good luck.

SingTel will be doubling mobile charges for customers who exceed their monthly data bundle from next month. The telco had earlier quashed rumours of this change in its charging.

From Sept 16, any usage in excess of a customer's data allowance - which starts from 2GB - will be billed $10.70 per GB, capped at $188 per month. The new rates are double the current promotional rates of $5.35 per GB, capped at $94 per month.

In response, SingTel said on Wednesday that the promotional rates were supposed to have ended in January but it had extended the promotion for another nine months.

Affected customers are those on its fourth-generation (4G) mobile data plans, all of which are bundled with tiered mobile data charges. As of June 30, the telco had 537,000 4G customers. Customers on its 3G plans will not be affected unless they renew their contracts from Sep 16.

Only 2 months ago, they denied it

SingTel has quashed rumours that it is about to double mobile charges for customers who exceed their monthly data bundle after a flurry of complaints from netizens yesterday.

Fury erupted late on Sunday night when a user of the HardwareZone website posted a screen capture of the telco's "frequently answered questions" web page.

This said that any usage in excess of a customer's 1GB data allowance was to be billed at $10.70 per GB, capped at $188 per month. It added that the new rates - said to take effect from next month - were double the current rates of $5.35 per GB, capped at $94 per month.

The purported increase would apply to customers of SingTel's Broadband on Mobile plans, which allow laptop users to go online wirelessly via a 3G SIM card encased in a plastic dongle.

First ish give u 12GB data....then chiu addict to high data stream liao reduce it to 2GB, but say addition each GB charge $5.35. Now say each GB will cost $10.70....everything go according to their master plan to milk the most out of the consumers....
