otherwise, this GS70 is a real laptop in the living room. 2 hrs of surfing/downloading and NAS transfers on my lap, no temp issues with no aircon.

A bit unwielding due to the fact it is a 17" . Chose this over the razor becos of price/weight and the HDD.

I prefer 17".

For Win8, I installed the Start Bar mod. Now it looks like Win7.

Eeeeeh PC Dreams copid it over for me, but you can easily install it by googling "Windows 8 Start bar mod"

How to increase brightness of keyboard led? Seems dimmer compared to my Y500.

yup, 2x128Gb. Paid $2699 for it with a free Roccat Gaming Wireless mouse.
Finally installed all my games, transferred the save games and up and running.

My short comments ... more cons as I am still adjusting it.

Pros
1) Felt like my old MBP 17" which I have been missing for ages!! Perfect design..!!

2) Love the dancing keyboard lights during music playback.

3) Matt screen! Nice screen.

4) Small power brick comparing to my Y500.

5) Nice bag and sleeve! Comes free.

Cons
1) Keyboard lighting kinda dim , preferred my Y500 which is bright.

2) Speedwise isn't much different from my Y500 with mSATA even with Raid 0.

3) The 2.1 speaker is not as impressive. The sound is improved with Soundblaster but bass is still very lacking.

4) Trackpad is not as responsive as those on the Macs or even my Y500. Maybe need to optimise the settings.

5) Front led indicators will make u go blind when u try to lay back and watch a movie. Need to cover with something.

Not found it yet. Typical taiwanese mah, they like bright LEDs. For me, I just covered it with a towel so keyboard and all LEDs are gone

But the brightness is really "eye piercing"!

The speaker is 2.1 but sounded so inferior compared to my old Y500.
Tweaked the SB settings but still weak. Am I doing something wrong?
MSI marketing claims that it rivals home entertainment systems.

I think once you are on SSD, it makes very little difference how fast the SSDs are to be honest. It is the response time on an SSD that makes the big difference between it and a mechanical drive, rather than the higher Seq Read/ Write speed that you get when you run RAID 0.

Sound wise, I've heard MSI should produce laptops with better sound on their flagship models due to 4x speakers and 1x sub. But still, if you wanna get good sound, gotta hook your laptop up to an external set of speakers man.
