I7-3610QM vs I5-3570K
Guys,
I am contemplating between getting a tower PC desktop versus a gaming PC. May I know how do I do a comparison between Notebook processors and Desktop processors? which is better? the i7 or the i5 for desktop? i7-3610QM is from Lenovo Y480 tia

Is the setup going to be at one place and will be station there forever? If yes, go for the desktop.
If you need to carry a pc around, go for the laptop. If you game, get a desktop. You can upgrade your graphic card to improve performance. You can't do so on a laptop. |

i understand if both the same specs, desk CPU will be much faster... If you're gonna buy the laptop to play at home, then might as well get a desktop. Edit: My mistake, The i7-3610QM processor is a 4 core 8 thread chip, which is different from the i5 3570k (4 core 4 thread). However the i5 3570k can overclock, which makes a huge difference. I do not understand why would people would want to compare desktop and notebook processors. You ought to be evaluating whether you need portability(notebook) or performance(desktop) .

if u know desk dpu will be much faster. isnt that the ans to nxt question? but im comparing an i5 desk with an i7 mobile so i just wanna clear my doubt... cos in my mind, i only know i7 > i5 > i3... and I am hearing all those 3rd gen sandybridge or ivybridge i7 processors on laptops, and my cousin is only recommending me an i5 for gaming.. so the confusion lies in it..

Like what rag95 said, if you need mobility, then get the laptop. i'm getting one to game but was thinking if say the laptop lacks abit in performance i don't mind getting it for mobility to bring it over to my friend's or cousin's place to game together... heating over the keyboard is an issue as well.. i would love to know how to overlock tho... will read up on it..

Computationally, the mobile i7 chip actually wins. The integrated graphics are about equal. However, the hardware cryptography engine on the desktop i5 is more powerful. Get a laptop with Optimus and separate GPU if you're considering one. It should offer pretty solid performance. |

Unfortunately, no... The GPU blows any mobile part out of the water. Just look at the TDP difference. You can google actual numbers if you're keen.
Stick with The 7xxx series or the 6xx series. The 560 really outputs a lot of heat (hence noise). Not worth the discount. |

Desktop wins hands down. I LAN with my friends all the time and all of them have laptops, but i'm still getting the desktop because i'll be the one hosting the LAN parties haha. So you can have the best of both worlds if you're the one hosting
