Iomega Storcenter ix2 issue

I have an Iomega Storcenter ix2 setup in the office to serve as a file server, but every now and then it goes offline and have to switch it off and on again to get it back online. Is it a hardware issue or a network issue?

Saw this quote too

"The Iomega StorCenter device is degraded and data protection is at risk."

Does it means the harddisk is dead?

Probably due to overheating, check and made sure the cooling fan is working.

If you never backup the data, high-time to do so before it's too late.

Is there a fan in this model? A quick google didn't show any results. The fan rpm in the status page is 0 rpm. Not sure if fan has failed or there wasn't one to begin with.

If no fan then how to cool down the drive(s)? Do state the exact model if you want further assistance.

A simple google check listed this model: Iomega StorCenter IX2-DL which clearly show there is cooling fan at the rear.

Sorry, I didn't have access to the control interface till now. It's Iomega StorCenter ix2-200. I'm new to NAS, no sure if the have fans. I thought it could be passively cooled.

Edit: Just found out that its doesn't have a fan, but a mini blower. But is 50 degrees hot in an air con environment?

So, is the fan (or mini-blower) still working? Check the status on NAS webUI or place your hand behind the vent (above the drive cage).

Yup, according to the NAS webUI its working. Though I don't any wind from the vent. Not sure if it's because its really weak.

Get it RMA if still under warranty (3yrs).

As always do backup if you value your data, RAID-1 is not a form of backup!
