Intel looks to have an impressive value for money processor based on its new Kaby Lake architecture available, with the new Pentium G4560 costing just $64 - and it competes against processors worth 3x as much.

The site has a 'total rating' of application and games at 1080p, where you can see that the Pentium G4560 and Core i5-2500K are neck and neck. When gaming at both 720p and 1080p, the new Kaby Lake-based Pentium G4560 beats the Pentium G4400, FX-6300 and A10-7890K - while just 5% slower than the more expensive Core i3-6100, and Core i5-2500K processors. In normal Windows use and synthetic benchmarks, the new Kaby Lake CPU is only 3% slower than the Core i3-6100, and just 1% slower than the $270 processor - the Core i5-2500K, which is a huge testament to the improvements within the Kaby Lake architecture.

To put it another way, the i5-2500K is still as good as a CPU from Kaby Lake, 5 generations later.

Let's put it this way , an I3 is good enough to do normal usage , exclude gaming. With an SSD , surfing , office work + watch video can do quite well liao.

I highly doubt the i5-2500k will be that close to the G4560...

Need more reviews from reputable reviewers before making a conclusion.

The i3 Skylake and Kabylake and G4560 can play games well also. ;) Youtube got a lot of people tested it out already. All you need is 8GB of RAM and a decent graphic card.

Ppl buying pentium or non k CPU would not be using z series board anyway.....

Why not? There are certain features in z series motherboards that may come in useful even when not overclocking, like extra pcie lanes or perhaps generally better quality.

The only good thing about kaby lake for me is this new budget king the Pentium G4560. If I haven't bought my i3 4160 few months ago would have gone with this. The rest of the kaby lake line up is more of the same with small increase in performance.

Really no reason to buy i3 if want to build a budget gaming rig liao. A G4560 pair up with a gtx 1060 would be an awesome budget gaming rig.

Wonder what is the price difference for this Pentium G4560 locally vs the i3 7000 series CPU.

Quite a lot. Cybermind got list the CPU already but I'm willing to bet they don't have available stock.

I think nothing to do with the architecture.
G4560 is exactly same as i3-6100, just that clock speed difference (3.5Ghz vs 3.7Ghz), which translate to score of 49 vs 51
