Hi All,

My rig is about 5 years old and with a graphics card refresh about 3 years ago. It's getting abit slow recently starting up and running normal programs and I'm looking to do some upgrades. I'm thinking of just adding a SSD drive. Main usage these days is just normal surfing/video watching. Would that be feasible/advisable?

Specs as below

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 2.66GHz
MSI P55-CD53
4GB DDR3 1333MHz
WD 500GB Blue
MSI GTX 580
ANDYSON F650W

Appreciate all the help I can get.

Cheers

Reformat your windows, upgrade to a new HDD (newer drives are faster than older drives), add more ram.

Thanks for all the help.

haha.. quick question though, since my mb is quite old, i don't know if upgrading to a SSD would help? I am afraid the MB would be the bottleneck.

I just checked my MB can only support sata2 for the ssd. Will it still make a significant difference to get Ssd? Or do I need to upgrade the MB too?

I agree with the rest of the bros here..

I've got a 4yr old rig slowing down....

just whacked a SSD...formatted and installed win7 into ssd...after that booting into windows and opening of applications - a big difference in speed... =)

As for ram upgrade to 8GB... it's up to you...since you are not gaming...
and if you are still using win7 32-Bit - no point to upgrade to 8gb...
