Nice. And dear Asus, it's "bear", not "bare"...

I was at CDL today to look into a lan problem with my gigabyte mobo (got it fixed). The lead tech that did my board was kinda surprised I even knew about this.... Seems that their staff are aware but not "activated" on any rma procedure yet.

All in the cny mood no doubt.

Facts:

1) You got no where to run. Every single mobo selling now have this issue. You are only FREE from this issue if your mobo is of early stage, eg, those for review etc.

2) People are overreacting on this issue.

3) This issue wont break your mobo or make it un-useable if you bother to find out what actually went wrong.

4) Its the CNY period. People all over the world are celebrating. Dun expect people to work on CNY just so you can change your mobo.

5) Most distro are still waiting for updated statement from intel before deciding on their next move.

6) Intel expect new revision of chips to be shipped end feb. Full volume recovery target is april.

7) Expect end feb and whole of march period to be a period of RMAs.

8) Only 3GB/s intel controller are affected. 3rd party and intel 6GB/s not affected.

9) Its the CNY. Please enjoy the holidays. :D

Its actually safe to purchase now since the degrade is over long period of usage + very high temp and voltage. Maybe you would have upgraded again before the problem even appear. :)

totally agree with point 9. and why fix something that ain't broken? don't need to rush to RMA one lahh. i believe that even if your mobo breaksdown because of the flaw after the warranty, the distro will still have to acknowledge the design flaw in the early mobos and still provide assistance at some or no cost.

whatever it is, please guys, just enjoy the CNY holidays! your mobo isn't about to die on you before the week is out!

here's more information for GIGABYTE users:

http://gigabytedaily.blogspot.com/2011/02/intel-6-series-chipset-issues-q.html

Q: What action should I take if I have already purchased a GIGABYTE 6 series motherboard?

A: Firstly, please determine your computer setup. No action will be needed if you only use the SATA 3 ports. If you are using the SATA2 ports, then there are possibilities that the device’s performance will decrease after a period of usage. To ensure the highest standard of customer support & services, GIGABYTE recommends that all customers who purchased GIGABYTE 6 series motherboards contact their local dealer (retail store where you purchased the motherboard) at the end of April for a motherboard exchange. GIGABYTE will provide an equivalent new motherboard replacement.

Q: What is the GIGABYTE swap policy for GIGABYTE 6series motherboards?

A: GIGABYTE will provide a replacement motherboard with the new 6 series chipset onboard at the end of April in order to reduce any inconvenience to our customers who are affected by this issue.

Q: What is the SOP for GIGABYTE 6 series motherboard exchange?

A: At the end of April please take your 6 series motherboard to the same store where you originally purchased it. If the product is not available at that time, please leave the series number and your personal contact details with the store and wait for further notice.

Q: When will the replacement be available?

A: According to Intel’s production plan, the 6 series B3 stepping chipset will be available by April, 2011. GIGABYTE will produce and ship replacement motherboards according to Intel’s chipset shipping schedule.

Great! Now both Asus and Gigabyte have issue statements. Now is waiting for local disto BL and CDL to follow up with this. Hope both of them release their plans soon!

as an asus fan, kind of feel disappointed on Asus..last one to response and the post is not so informative, unlike gigabyte, they already have some FAQ/plan published..

time to try brands..

Diff company practise diff style. As long as local support is there, that is more important for me la. :D

Actually, im looking at 1-1 exchange no question ask across all distros, corbell, CDL, BL, Asview, Kaira etc for this intel cock up.
