Question Regarding 15.6-inch gaming notebook shootout article

Hi, any reason why the new updated HP Omen 2017 is not in the list?

http://h20386.www2.hp.com/SingaporeS...&opt=&p=c-omen

Price seems pretty competitive as well.

Hello!

Just saw this post. 27th Feb is a very special day for me moving forth.

Back to the question, actually we've not seen or heard of this update from HP either. http://h20386.www2.hp.com/SingaporeS...1&opt=&sel=NTB

The last we've asked them and tested a Omen, it was still using older hardware. Hence we've excluded it.

In any case, this HP Omen is still not up to competition - uses a GTX 1050. The shootout had GTX 1060 and even GTX 1070 competitors and they don't cost much more than HP either. HP Omen has no chance against them unfortunately.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense then. I also noticed this 2017 update was silently introduced this year. Will the review lab be also doing one on 1050 laptops for those who do not wish to be burdened by the weight and cost of the 1060/1070 laptops?

Hi Vulpix,

Probably not as a shootout as this tier of notebooks is straddling in between folks looking for a proper work product vs. those looking for a proper gaming lappie. Sort of in a no-man's land unless one is really sure what he/she is getting into. For light/slim needs, the MSI GS series is really good at it as can be seen in this shootout and it's still a credible gaming machine.

We will still consider reviewing them separately when we find the right products that could be worth review. This renewed HP Omen might just make the cut since we really like the Omen's design from the previous version tested; it's only fault is the hardware it boasts and the price.
