Hi chocobunny,

Can i know the total cost of the procedure and all the breakdown.. the surgery itself, any additional cost for equipment and the hospital stay?
The braces cost me $5k+; it was that expensive because for a complex surgery, the ortho and the surgeon needed to work closely with each other to determine the "movement" of your teeth and plan how they should be like before the surgery.

Surgery wise, it was $19K + (inc of hosp stay + materials like the titanium plates & screws), stayed in a HDU for 1 night, shifted to a B1 ward on the next day and discharged in the evening. I didn't need to pay a single cent cuz Medisave & Medishield covered $8k + and my medical insurance covered the rest. 😊 Hope this helps!

wow surprising that it is this steep.. i heard it is was 5 - 12k for some. I went to your blog to take a look at your condition pre-op it seems to be within my expectations. any idea how come yours is at the higher end of the range for government hospital surgery?

First to go, i think the pricing depends on the severity of your jaw problem. The less complicated it is, the cheaper it gets. This is what i know.

Then about GOVT hospital. Because i went to NDC, KTPH and Q&M to request for their braces quotation, i know their price.

For NDC, when you are under the waiting list which is about 1 year of wait and it cost about 5k+, near to 6k+. However, if you choose to not wait, you gotta to pay 4k+, near to 5k+. For KTPH, its around the same for their braces.

For Q&M, im only doing my braces at 3.8k. Doing with Q&M City Square Mall, Dr Hwang. This dentist works very closely with KTPH. Many dentist/orthondontist would prefer KTPH because KTPH is known for dental.

As for Jaw Surgery, i think it would be wiser to go to GOVT sector (NDC or KTPH, your choice) because they will be cheaper than private.

For my case, im doing braces at Q&M City Square Mall for 3.8k and then surgery with KTPH.

Hope this helps you in finanical terms.

I agree. Yeah loveyourself123, for mine, i had an open bite + underbite if you saw my before pics. For the cost of braces, like i mentioned it was due to the intricate planning of how they want your jaws to be like before you go for the op, hence it's more ex, + with the extra consultation the ortho has to do with your surgeon, etc. Those are the costs added together😊 If you wish for your braces to be cheaper in terms of cost but also want to procedure to go smoothly, you can consider what KukuBirdx3 did in going to Q&M. My case was very complex and no dental clinic (Q&M, Harbourfront Dental, etc.) dared to take it up so I had no other option but to see a specialist. NDC and KTPH are the best government hospitals that are good with maxillofacial corrections / orthodontics. 😊

just to share, I am in a similar situation as well. I'm currently undergoing braces treatment with the gap between my top teeth and bottom teeth having been extended to about 1cm now

For my case, I have to be on braces for a year or so before I can go for my surgery. I put on my braces last dec but the most recent update from my orthodontist that my teeth are not really aligned and ready for the surgery yet hence it will most likely be postponed to next april! I'm going the private all the way route as my insurance is able to pay for everything related to the surgery less the braces (which I paid SGD$3.8k++ for)! I really can't wait to see what will the results of the surgery be as this thing has been bordering me for forever.

My diagnosis as according to my surgeon is a skeletal Class 3 deformity with maxillary hypoplasia and mandibular prognathism, basically my lower jaw is over-developed and my upper jaw is under-developed.

For my Orthodontist, I am going to Dr Stanley Kok @ Toofdoctor tanjong pagar, and he recommended me the surgeon Dr Shawn Goh @ The Oral Maxillofacial Practice.

Hope the above info helps anyone who is going for the surgery as well

Hahahah! Goodluck to you! I got the same problem as you. My lower jaw is over developed and upper jaw is slightly under developed. This caused my underbite. Haha! But one thing good is, my braces dentist is very very good. For the sake of my surgery, he helped me rush it through. Every tightening i went, the dentist tighten extra tight for me... its painful but my teeth went from super jialat to super hoseh and neat in just 4-5 months.

Thanks for the last few informative post!

For those who could claim insurance, can I know which insurance company your plan is under and how many years have you had the insurance?

For mine, it's the AIA Goldmax one. Not sure eh, my dad started buying for me when i was 8 y/o. Since it wasn't a pre-existing condition then, I'm able to claim from them. 😊

Wah i feel you. The tightening procedure... like your teeth are getting pulled out at one shot then released from torture.

That bottom right dentist in that brochure is my dentist... he is very professional and he will advise you what suits you best! I know he is located at City Square Mall Q&M and one or two more Q&M. You can call to check @ 65091133.

As for medisave, i doubt you can use it for the braces. Im not sure about the gum. You can go consult about it. Cause even for braces, you cannot use medisave in govt hospital.
