Guess its because I've always wanted a Fairbaine Sykes but never gotten around to buying one when they were still for sale. Then I read that they were actually quite badly designed knives, so I wanted a Tai Pan instead.

When I was a teen, all knives were allowed, even autos (we called them switchblades then). You could buy balisongs, double edged blades, etc. Even knuckle dusters were openly sold. Those were the days!

autos were allowed? :eek:=:p:eek:

If u ever used a fighting knife, u would understand a lot why they ban and allow those...

For kukri, it is surprising hard to fight with one. Unless u got a martial art technique for it. It also easily get trap in places u chop.

Sog bowie is a fighting knife??? How u get this kind of idea? Its too big for fighting. There is a reason y katanas are design so slim.

Machete mostly doesnt use very hard steel. They are not good as fighting knives as they dun cut human well. In a fight, they end up as blunt blades. Because they cant slash well due to the design.

Butterfly knives are ban due to quick and surprising moves they can do like a auto.

You must fight with melee weapons b4 u can fully understand y i say that.

It's SGD1000 here??? for a Cold Steel knife?

Cold steel tai pan is around usd 300. Singapore pricing is 3-4 time oversea retail price.

I checked b4 a recon tanto san mai here with both sheares and ceasers b4. Both selling around 400++-500sgd. Knifecenter is around 129usd...

I think i seen a fairbain skye kind of knife in caesers in plaza sing b4. But i believe its blunt.

Nuchaku are ban due to spf riot fighting gear cannot handle nuchaku.

I believe the adviser to a&e about the ban list of items must have either fought melee combat a lot or he is a martial artist.

Don't know about SOG bowies, but the type of bowies I like are along these lines:

Jerry Fisk Way of St. James:

All the mention about knife fighting but no one mentioned about trench knives. No love for it? High chance it's banned to the extreme end...

Yea. thinks its ban for some model.

compare it fighting capability is still lose out to a brass knuckle. Due to the fact that you can hide a brass knuckle easily but not a trench knife.

And due to its weight distribution, its really hard to use a trench knife.

The busse is just plain impractical(marketing gimmick for zombie fans) but for WW1 trench knife, it was very effective in combat. A well-balanced 4-6" long trench knife would be deadly.

I find the unbalanced benchmade 275 very terrible and more like a sharpened prybar. It's blade heavy yet it's a little too short to do real batoning. Only choppers/machetes should be blade heavy. Weighting in at 7.7oz, I should have gotten a Esee 3 or 4 but at least I now have a sharpen prybar...

I have no love for fighting knives :) and I have no interest or knowledge in knife fighting other than from a historical, cultural and bio mechanics standpoint, haha.

Perhaps if trench knives were effective, they would still be in use widely. Perhaps if nunchakus were effective against riot gear, they would be banned everywhere (riot gear is the same in most countries, I assume). Perhaps........ah well.

Sometimes, the laws are a legacy from the past - you have to go to the actual deliberations, decisions to understand where they came from (whether due to proper consideration or otherwise) - bike chains, parangs, spears etc were more commonly used in the past, as were knuckle dusters (they are still here, smuggled in as always). Some items are prohibited due to the fact that they can be concealed easily. Look at the laws carefully - the list is NOT exhaustive. There is an overarching prohibition against 'anything that is deemed (by the courts) as offensive'. Do the courts have indepth or specialist knowledge about escrima, fencing etc etc other than the standard combatives learnt during NS? (if there still is).

Sometimes misinformation is hard to discern from reality, and misinformation spreads like grease on a clean floor....slowly but hard as hell to clean up :)

Back to the regular programming....and more on the utilitarian aspect of cutting tools. Certain discussions are best done with the right setting and right context ;)

YMMV greatly :D

Just hope they make something like a graphene alloy blade so I can stop the pursuit for ultimate material for fixed blades... =:p

Just my little dream.

Just my little dream.

Sounds like an upgrade to CPM's powdered-tech. Graphene seems to stabilize the structure through nanotube technology. Stronger is one thing about I wonder how it will effect toughness/brittleness.

If graphene-alloy comes into the market, I imagine the demand of Gold-graphene blades which could possibly perform at least as good as S30V, will go through the roof :s22:

Mirror-finish gold blades

And dreams are what fuels innovation. Meanwhile, try s110v?

Probably not viable commercially. But who knows? Sm100 is now available commercially too...

I know s110v very good... But graphene is both hard as diamond and 10 times tougher than any steel right now.

With a graphene alloy blade, it is the dream material for blades!
