You cannot equate the two together like that. And you can't just "feel" because of a "hunch" that running two devices directly implies redundancy.

If you have a capable aircon, you do not need additional fans. But in this case, the blower should be powerful enough (say 100W) to circulate cold air / suck in warm air properly on its own. Nothing comes free - the strong blower needs electricity - which translates to cost.

Now, if you have an aircon with the same compressor but with a weaker blower, say 50W, then it means it is not able to circulate air properly and at the same time, it is taking in less electricity (50W less). Now, you use the "savings" of 50W to run a 50W fan, is there any difference in electricity cost?

No.

The issue here is to identify the inadequacy of the cheapo aircon. If it is inferior solely because of the blower, then we could just focus on it and fix it. The total fixed cost + running cost could be lowerer than the alternative.

Europace EPAC 12J going for $899 at Courts. Feel like throwing down the money due to the heat. problem is my hall is like 480 square feet. Can this 12k BTU make it? Not expecting it to super cool down the room but at least wont make me sweaty.

EPAC 12J europace

wow u have a very big room 12000 BTU portable aircon can only cool down up to 150 sq. ft., 14000 BTU portable aircon about 180 sq. ft for Europace brands check the specs first before buying... :look:

BTW, i have bought EPAC 12J just recently its cool enough to make my room cold which is about 150 sq. ft. or less... but i'm thinking of getting the split type aircon now as it really makes up for room space... :s22:

anyone interested please pm me thanks or email @ nick28drag@gmail.com

Update, I got my 15000BTU Trends fixed.
The water built up problem was due to the dust accumulated below the unit.

Besides the filter, there's some lobangs at the bottom as well.
The guy came did a wash and it's fine now.
Precautionary measures, I paste some soft materials (likes of a teabag) over it. So when it's dirty I will just change it.
Cost about $2 per 100 pc or something that range.

Hi, what is power consumption for 14k btu portable air-com compare with normal split unit

air-com???

if this air-con ruuning 8 - 10 hours daily, how much would it be cost per month????

Mine 1000w for 9K BTU

1000w=1kWh per hr.
*SP services charge 1kWh @$0.2356
So if the aircon on daily for 8hr = 8 X $0.2356= $1.8848 per day
30day= 30 X $1.8848= $56.544

actually it is not recommended for portable aircon to run for more than 5 - 6 hrs at a go... need to let it have a break...
