Hi,
Let me share my experience using Trends portable aircon PC26-AMBII. In general I can say that the aircon is cool enough for normal size room. It's rather too noisy though (although I got used to it after one month). I've been using it almost everyday for about 8 months without any problem. Until few weeks ago, when the aircon went haywire intermittently. Sometimes it could run for hours without problem, but many times it would suddenly stop or change mode to heating or dehumid by itself.
I called their technical service support, and here all the frustrating experience happened.
1. They said the earliest date they could come is two weeks! After some bargaining, they agree to come in one week.
2. In the morning of the agreed day, the service guy called and he wanted to change the time.
3. When finally meet the service guy, he said the aircon problem is due to it's not cleaned often enough. I clean it every month but he said it should be every week. He said the warranty doesn't cover labor cost and the cost is $80. Time to repair is one week.
4. After one week nobody called me so I called them. After a bit ding-dong here and there, finally few days later they contacted me and promised to deliver my unit exactly two weeks after they took it. He said the one week told by service guy last time was an estimation only.
5. Learning from the past experience, one day before the delivery day I called technical support to confirm the timing. The same guy confirmed the time.
6. On the (supposedly) delivery day, same thing happen again. The service guy called me in the morning saying he couldn't deliver on the agreed time and wanted to deliver in the afternoon which unfortunately I wouldn't be at home. So need to reschedule the delivery day again and hopefully this time they can deliver their promise.
Conclusion:
While I can't comment the durability of the unit, or whether the unit is rugged enough against reasonable build up of dust, I can say this: if you use this brand, clean it often and regularly, do preventive measure as much as you can. Don't let yourself deal with their technical support. It's seem that they're either too busy or understaffed so the service lead time is damn slow, they can't keep their committed date, and eventually make the customer have inconvenience in terms of time scheduling, even though they charge quite expensively.
I hope the company will improve their technical support.
