Is there anyway to switch between the speaker output and earphone if one is plugged in? I'm interested in buying this but a earphone will be plugged into it most of the time.

If need to unplug/replug for speaker then is damn troublesome.
When a headphones is connected to the speaker, the speaker will mute and the audio will only output from the headphones.

There is no option to make the audio play from the speakers and not through the headphones when a headphones is connected to the speaker.

Bookfest? Interesting.

Unless your living room is compact, i.e. those in 3rm flats or smaller, then you can consider Katana. Otherwise, get a more apt sound bar system from HTS brands.

Saw this during the bookfest and am quite amazed by it, based on cost.

Read thru the thread and realised that it may not be that suitable for TV usage, which was my main intention.

40 inch TV, living room, streaming videos mostly (HD).

Would Katana still be suitable or to move onto other HTS instead? Thanks alot.

I've tried it on surround audio supported games, it seems reasonable for me.

It's not distinct such that you can figure out pacing/distance, but you can tell it's from the rear.

In general, unless a speaker system has actual rear speakers, it's generally not great for accurate surround sound purposes., let alone re-create any rear surround. Most just create a sense of surround. I've tried numerous sound bars and they generally fit this description.

In the sense like Batman Arkham games.
Just turn the characters around, on actual soundbar you can hear rear and distance firing/talking.

On katana, it is different can only hear what is around the character or front channel only.
