Himedia HD910A

Just came back from China. Cannot resist the temptation and bought myself the Himedia HD910A from TaoBao for 599.50CNY (120SGD).

Link:
Himedia HD910A

Key Features:
1. Realtek 1186DD and 512M DDR2
2. Android 2.2 and Linux Dual OS
3. 3D OpenGL and 3D Video Playback
4. HDMI 1.4 with 1080p Full HD and 7.1 HD Audio Pass-Through
5. HTML5 Web Browser
6. Adobe Flash Support
7. USB Wireless Mouse & Keyboard Support
8. Internet Media Service : Youtube, Flickr, Shoutcast, RSS News
9. USB 3.0
10. All new Aluminum Housing and Low Noise Fan

Hardware:
1. CPU = Realtek RTD1186
2. RAM = 512M DDR2
3. Flash = 2GB
4. Connectivity = LAN, Wireless, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x SD Card Slot, 1 x Sata Port (Not sure if I express this correctly)

Why I bought this?
1. USB 3.0
2. 3D
3. Small footprint
4. HDMI 1.4
5. Cheap
6. Option to turn off Android if desired
7. 1186DD
8. Nice design
9. Himedia supporter
10. Bo Liao

My first impression:
1. Like - Above 1 to 9.
2. Perform as well as my current Himedia HD600B (yet to test side by side)
3. Occupy less space in my room compared to my current MyGiga V9.
4. Dislike - Wireless LAN performance very disappointing. Felt it was worse than my current HD600B and V9.
5. HiTV (Internet Media Server) - Don't bother. This is Singapore. Not China. Buying the product for this feature is a waste of money.
6. Disappointed that I cannot find my favorite HDPFANS DIY firmwares yet.
7. Main menu not as vibrant compared to my current Himedia HD600B.
8. Not able to test 3D as I don't have 3D TV.
9. Slot in a SD Card (8GB) so that Android Apps can be installed into the player
10. Still trying to install hiapk.com so that I can install other apps.
11. MyGiga V9 performs better than HD910A but I don't like the design of the former.

Conclusion:
Worth my money as I like Himedia designs. This is my third Himedia product. Never been disappointed with it.

Should you get it?
If you have nothing better to do or this is your first media player or you want a slim player for travelling or you are himedia support or the price in Singapore is very cheap.

Why you don't think about?
Android is useless. Wireless performance suspected. Internet Media Server is useless in Singapore.

This player will now replaces my Astone AP200 on my overseas travels. These days most hotels or even motels have LCD TV so a HDMI connection is not a big issue. A credit card size wireless router and this player should not add too much weight into my bag. The Astone AP200 has a significant advantage in that it can directly store a 2.5inch HDD. However it simply adds more weights to the bag. Watching movies online should be the way to go (as long as the wireless connection and the media server does not cause any lag).

Hi Ray.

You can start contributing to society by giving it to needy people liked me. I have 3 bedrooms and one hall. So far I still have two rooms to fill. I have been waiting for one guy to throw his player to the river but that did not seemed to happened. Just only hear his monthly complaint here. Almost liked a period thing.

First and foremost this is a media player. It's primary function is playback. I like to watch my ah-hem movies on a big screen rather than a monitor. Such a player suits my needs. I travel mostly and having this thing in my bag is handy. Otherwise throw it into the river and I will pick it up for you.

No hard feelings from that someone. Today I am in the mood to suay people.

PPTV and PPS success rate is very low. As for the other streaming site that have lower bitrate movies, they can be played sometimes. My success rate for wireless is low. Wired is slightly better on a very good day.

So far I have used the wired connection to watch some CCTV channels which is ok on some days. On some nights I am able to catch Euro 2012 but there are some lagging.

Too bad, the owner still prefer to keep it as paper weight than keeping the $80.

Hopefully the owner is not out there to discredit himedia.

Since this is android player, can install Funshion app. pptv only works well during weekday mornings and afternoons. Middle of the night after 2am might be ok. I think the owner don't want to sabo people by selling off. it's true even using IPad, pptv, youku and letv app will have streaming problem. Funshion app is still the best. Maybe the only place these players work well is in China....keke
