The latest firmware does not upgrade the android version of the mibox.
It is still at 4.4.2.
You are stuck with kodi 16.1 for the time being.
Or else you can go buy another new box.
There are versions of kodi 17 forks for 4.42.

Don't have to buy new box.

I believe that they are custom programmed kodi 17 and not the official one.
Saw some of the tutorial in youtube.

That is the meaning of kodi forks.

There isn't much additional useful features of kodi 17 compared to kodi 16. One significant change is the use of SSL 2, and some addons such as exodus is using it, without it, the number of hd links are very little.

3 kodi forks are created by box manufacturers or volunteers to address the problem. They are : FTMC, EBMC and mygica media center.

With these 3 kodi forks, there is no need to buy new boxes and can enjoy the benefit of kodi 17.

Mi Box will be coming officially to the Malaysia market tomorrow 12pm at http://bit.ly/mymistorelazada ~

Comes with full Android TV OS support.
More info→ http://bit.ly/mymibox
So this is the international version. Anyone got this?

Considering
Chromecast 2 versus mibox

The latter has more free content including YouTube. Does it have toggle?

Sent from Samsung SM-N9005 using GAGT

It is better to run toggle from phone and chromecast to mibox.

I bought MDZ-18-AA mibox 3 enhanced and successfully rooted it with Google play. The steps are in miui forum under gadget sub forum.

The MDZ-19-AA that I bought earlier lost in transition with forwarder. But anyway is quite easy to root it just follow the instructions and don't use mac to unzip the file. And do not rename the folders.

Using the old mibox has become a nightmare. Seems like the newest is still a pain as well. Any recommendations for a box if I'm just looking for performance and good clean android installed?

Depends on the apps used. It is not necessary to run VPN for most apps. Most of us use TV box without VPN.
