Places to buy Flatscreen Panels, Projectors etc Discussion Thread

Any recommendations on good and honest neighbourhood shops when buying LCD TVs? Can we bargain for a good price? Do they accept credit card without extra charge too?

I am hoping to get a Japanese brand 32" LCD TV soon. Most likely will be Sony, Panasonic or Sharp.

Thanks.

Went to get a LCD TV today at Audio house, after saw the trade-in offer.

Samsung LA40R81BX @ $1599 + S$200 robinson voucher. Thought was quite a good deal. So final cost S$1399 for me.

Ask them if they need the old TV, and they said yes, and will collect and send back to the supplier (mine old TV is Sony 29"). They claim that AH made arrangements for the TV company for this...how true I dunno....why they want it back...I also dunno.

Looking at their receipt:

LA40R81BX : S$2999
Trade in 29": -S$1200
Off set S$200 AH voucher: -S$200
= S$1599 + S$200 robinson

29" CRT TV "rag and bone" prices are lousy compare to 2 years ago. Was offer $5 for my 29" Panasonic CRT TV which is still in working condition. I bargained for $20 but was rejected.

This is a good deal after minus the voucher. Saw the 32R81BX at BD going for $899 plus $20 delivery and no gift and it was like hot cake with no more stock.

My suggestion is to check out the prices from HDB shops, Harvey Norman, Courts and Best Denki first.

Once you know "market price, get it from HN, Courts or BD whichever can give you the best price. The display price at HN, Courts or BD are all for "display" bcos of competition. Just tell them where you can get your best price and see if they can beat it. Its not true that HDB shop can beat them..I bought my Samsung LA40M from BD after comparing all these shops. Another advantage is HD, BD and Courts offer 5 year warranty and installment free payment.

Dont be fooled by trade in gimicks..esp AH....I have read a few forumers trade in their TV but the price the paid is higher then what I paid wo trade-in. I can sell my broken TV to Pasar Malum for another $30.

hey trade in $1200 ???
I don't think so....its just for record purposes I suppose. Frankly, my gut feel is that whatever TV you have, they will still sell it at S$1599+S$200 voucher.

I called a few HDB shops before that, and they were higher than S$1599. Only found out abt the S$200 voucher when I went down....and that was more of the thing that help me to decide.

Yes BD, HV, Mustafa and GC sometimes can lower the display price.
Always ask the salesmen, sometimes one would be surprised.
One example: I was offered a $1000 discount from the showroom price
of a full HD 42" LCD TV. I was shocked too.

Also when they have a particular brand & model promo for a short period,
that's the almost the best deal one can find.
