Actually no need to rant and be frustrated.

1) Got time ? Wait for StarHub to solve it.
2) Router problem ? change it loh ( to other model or brand )
3) ISP problem ? change it loh ( other telco )

Update 23/12/2016:
Thanks to Asus and also the retailer who I brought (Not Challenger), they have allowed to me exchange my AC87U for AC88U on good will as my purchase was quite long ago.
However I will monitor whether this new router will have the same issue or not.

Did you off and on the ONT?

Then run the asus connection wizard?

Power cycle yes I did.
Perform a factory restore as well as run the connection wizard.
*Update, OK I switch on QOS as well as setting some settings on the router like IPV6.

Still trying out so far so good, System log did not report any issue but will continue to monitor and I try not to depend on SH CS.

Mine ASUS ac68u not working as well. Already changed from dlink to ASUS. Windows cannot automatically detect the proxy settings. I Google and followed instructions but still intermittent. Connect for 1mins. Down for 30secs. Ping time out many times

Currently I am still testing cuz I just change from AC87U to AC88U.
For a brief moment I encounter the same thing as you but
after I change some settings it somehow is stable now.

However still need some time to confirm whether will it work or not.
Will update once I have some concrete findings.

What's the settings. I can give it a try. I know it's not concrete but we can try first. Starhub told me change channel and try. It's slightly better. But time out still occurs every few mins.

WIFI channel need not change unless you have devices that
support certain channel and also once you specify one
type of channel the WIFI search will be quicker.

What sort of advice is that to relate to disconnection :s11:
Anyway, for intermittent disconnection what I found out is
but no proof yet.

Router when bandwidth is not specify the router will request
for more bandwidth especially when you connect more and more
devices.

Hence if ISP detect that router is working beyond the bandwidth
it disconnect that connection.

The thing I am trying now is using Traditional QOS setting
at 90%/95% of the given bandwidth you sign up of.

This is to tell the router that like say you are only given 1GPBS to work with since you sign up for this plan.
So far so good, no error report in the router log so far but will still monitor.

You can give a try cuz QOS is one of the settings I tried so far to make it stable.
Remember to load the original firmware not 3rd party one.
