Aztech powerline HL110EW connection and security issues

Hi, I bought the Aztech Powerline HL110EW and HL110E and is set up in the following manner. I'm getting "Error: Device Not Connected errors" Please advise.

HL110E is in my room connected to my wireless router (that is connected to my Starhub cable modem) and plugged in.

HL110EW is in the living room; both are paired.

I'm able to get connected wirelessly to HL110EW using the SSID indicated on it. I'm currently connected to it wirelessly writing this post.

When I launch the setup utility, HomePlug AV Utility, this are my results

1) Home Tab - Network Card: Selected my laptop's wireless card. MAC Address displayed is the 110EW's MAC address.

2) Home Tab - Wireless Summary: Totally nothing

3) Homeplug Tab - Under Devices subtab, Remote Homeplug Mac Address is the one in my room. There are connection stats here.

4) Wireless Tab - "Error: Device Not Connected" is displayed. What does it mean? All GUI elements in all 3 subtabs are grayed-out / disabled

5) Firmware Tab - "206.2.4-01" Is this the latest? I cannot upgrade firmware because "Device is not connected".

On my current wireless router I have MAC access filtering, but the Aztech HL110EW is creating another wide open door, any device even not on my MAC-allowed list is able to connect to my Network. How can I get connected to the 110EW so that I can set these security settings?

Thanks much

HL280E & HL110EW issues

Clearly I am not alone in having issues with Aztech's new product. I have 3 HL280E and 1 HL110EW and can not get any stable working solution. The HL280E's will work for about 10min and then keep dropping internet connections. I can not get any internet connection on the HL110EW using wireless but it will work wired - again for ~10min and then it drops the internet connection. Connection between the HL280E's appear fine as the blue light will be on. I have updated the firmware on all the devices as well as my Linksys 610N router. Interestingly though, the early version I have (HL110E) don't have any of these issues. - Clearly a waste of money (not to mention TIME !) upgrading.

What frustrates me the most though is Aztech technical support don't answer the ph and don't return calls.

Time to take the issue to CASE?

Hi Bros.
May I know whether there is any firmware upgrade for HL110E? not EW
If so, where can I get it. I can't find it here http://www.aztech.com/Support/drivers.html

Hi, I just a bought pair of HL110EW/HL110E 2 weeks ago from COMEX, the firmware version is 206.2.4-01 / 219.2.2-002. I am facing the same problem on the wired port of HL110EW. This is what happens:

1. Turn on Linksys router, HL110EW (wireless), HL110E
2. Power up laptop (wireless off)
3. Connect network cable to HL110EW
4. Most of the times cannot connect to Internet world

But if I do it this, it works

1. Turn on Linksys router, HL110EW (wireless), HL110E
2. Power up laptop (wireless on) and connected via HL110EW wireless
3. Once connected to Internet world
4. Connect network cable to HL110EW, it also connects to Internet world
5. Turn off laptop's wireless connection
6. Internet access via cable still works.

This is really strange, does anyone also having this problem?

bought the HL110EW and HL110E combo last saturday (18Sep)

didn't work the first time so I updated firmware of HL110EW to latest version and was up and runnning ok.

my setup is:
Starhub modem -> HL110EW -> powerline
powerline -> HL110E -> WAN port of DIR655 -> rest of my device (laptop, nas, etc)

It was running fine for about 7hrs and then internet connection will be lost and I will have to reboot HL110EW.. I have to do this about 5 times today.. probably within 1hr interval

now, HL110ew is not working, the ethernet and wifi is gone
1) pressed the reset button. but I don't see the default "Aztech_****" wifi ssid
2) the Homeplug utility 4.01.58 cannot detect the HL110EW, I used this utility to flash earlier that day
3) the 2 LEDs - ethernet activity and wifi no longer lights-up whenever I power-on the EW
4) the funny thing is, the HL110E and HL110EW can still pair using the 2-second button

the E can still be detected by the homeplug utility, so the problem lies on EW

now, I have to send this back to aztech for repair, it didn't even last 24hrs

do aztech do an outright replacement or I have to wait days for repair?

Hmmm.. The Aztech guy is in this forum and I'm sure he sees all these postings.
Looks like we have to try other brands.

my original plan was:
1) Starhub modem -> HL110EW -> none (not via powerline)
2) Connect router via wireless bridge to HL110EW - didn't work because IP segement is different

Since the above didn't work, I just disable the wireless on EW and used this setup:
1) Starhub modem -> HL110EW -> powerline
2) powerline -> HL110E -> WAN port of DIR655 -> rest of my device (laptop, nas, etc)

UPDATE: 2010Sep20 (6pm)
SLS Best-Price do not offer 1-1 exchange for Aztech (3day old purchase)
Aztech hotline: 6594 2297 - voice mail due to large number of calls
Email support 'support@aztech.com' = much better

Here's the reply from techsupport@aztech.com
-"We will contact you if the unit is available."

What???? they don't have any stock of HL110EW?????

very disappointed, above trick works for my home's laptop but not my company's laptop. the main reason I bought them is because of work, now it is useless.

Try pressing your 109EP's Simple Connect Button for 10 sec to randomize the private network name, and then do the pairing as in the easy start guide. Hope this will help.
