Means the Flash memory that store the firmware/config might have area(s) that is un-read/writable.
Typically, a small amount would be present after manufacturing.

Or it could just be a fluke and not show up at a later time.

I guess so. My fren RT-AC68U dun have this problem.

How is the ac68u performance? Would you recommend it to people despite your current experience? Considering to upgrade from ac 66u but tomato firmware just got supported on ac66u and has got a guide on upgrading to it by one of the forumer's website.

I have RT-AC66U. Feature wise is same. AC68U Range seems slightly better than AC66U. Wireless performance almost same (+/-2MB/s).

Both USB3 and USB2 read speed on AC68U is around 27MB/s for a USB3 thumbdrive that is capable of 100MB/s read speed; No different for USB2 and USB3.

And VPN performance for AC68U (60mbps)is almost double of AC66U(30mbps).

This is what I see so far.

A bad batch of asus rt-ac68u?

Nope, don't worry.

For RT-AC68U and RT-AC56U, we use NAND flash.

If the router can boot-up(power on) normally, this information is common and fine.

So don't need to compare another same model has this error.

Flash has different type, we use SPI(Serial) and NAND flash for our product.

You can read the wiki about flash as below:
Flash memory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NAND flash in write/read data’s speed is faster than SPI, and NAND flash’s size is much bigger than SPI,
So NAND flash compare with SPI, NAND flash has a lot of advantage.

I understand. Its like harddisk for bad sector still can use without any problem. U just mark the sector as bad and can continue to use.

But I dun think I can accept this if this defect is known. Either dun show this info or have to get it fix.

I guess nobody will be happy to know if their SSD show bad sector even though they can still use.

Dear Phayze,

1st: NAND technology architecture design to be like this, no matter what kind of vendor used this NAND chip will have same error and it's up to vendor they want to hide the error code.

2nd: NAND not using same technology as SSD or hard disk technology.

Dear Phayze,

Sooner will have same error code, it's very common.

I can request help you hide the error code if you want.

Do you remember how RD ram and SD ram? how it work?

Lol. Never mind. I just leave it.

If sooner or later will have error, I think the asus should not use such lousy NAND. I dun expect that more bad block will appear so fast.

NAND isn't lousy...... it's one of the fastest and stable compare to others.

You should really need to understand the technology their bad block not so called bad sector.
