got the asus ac 56..

when the internet disconnects.. the light on the adapter is still on...

to resolve the issue i must usually unplug and plugin the adapter to work..

this happens about 1hour interval.. sometimes even within 10-20mins

could you give more details.

1. isp and type?
eg: singtel, fibre.

2. how issit connected?
eg: fibre point --> ont --> asus ac56 (this means direct connect)

3. what settings did you use?
eg: just plug into ont | I use the same SSID for both 5ghz and 2.4ghz

4. wireless and wired connections give the same problems?
eg: yes or no

things to try to see if your router is functioning properly
with this setup:

fibre point --> ont --> your ISP provided router --> asus ac56

set asus ac56 to AP Mode
Make sure SSID is not the same channel and name(for testing purposes)

Give it a try via wired and wireless.

If all is good, chances you might have screwed up the settings

i believe you are using the basic setup

basically there's a wall where you can see an openNet. refer to pic:
IMG_0178.jpg

Then from there the yellow wire connects to an ONT.(you cannot replace this)

from the ONT, it connects to the Router

so from that you can say

TP(terminal point or wall point) ---> ONT ---> Router(Asus AC56)

When they(Myrepublic technician) come to your house to install, did they configure your router for you?

I am guessing from what i have read and conclude 3 highly possible problems:
1) You might have a faulty router
2) Your router might not be configured properly
3) ISP having problem at their end

Does your router only disconnects when you are streaming content(youtube,vimeo...etc) or/and when you download stuff(torrent, download manager, download from webby...etc)?

wow thanks for that alot clearer now..
and yes i do have that box to ONT > a router ( not the asus ac56 )

then in my room i use the asus ac56 wireless adapter to tap on the internet.

i switched back to my old wireless adapter and no issues....

so im wondering what settings could be wrong...
what i did when i got my asus ac56 wireless adapter was...

cd install , plug in hardware , use.

didnt set or config anything

ok, jeremyp77.

I believe this is your current config:

TP(opennetbox) ---> ONT ---> Your ISP Router ----> Asus AC56.

This means there is nothing wrong with your ISP Router and ISP Service. Is just you do the wrong configuration on the Asus AC56.

I Try and see if I can give you step by step to set up Asus AC56.

1) Connect wirelessly to your Asus AC56.

2) Once connected, go to your internet browser(Try to use Chrome) and enter "http://192.168.1.1/"

3) a "User" and "Password" will pop up. Enter "admin" for both section

4) Now you should be in the Asus Ac56 Web menu. Double check and see if it is Asus ac56

5) Go to Administration tab and change your mode to "AP Mode" or "Repeater mode"
Refer the image below(note: this is my other Asus router so there may be slight differences but most asus router share the same layout.)
asus_menu.jpg

6) Depending on how you want to connect;

6a) if you want to connect via wireless bridge like this:
TP --wired--> ONT --wired--> ISP Router ~~wireless~~> Asus AC56 ~~wireless~~> Your PC/devices
Choose "Repeater mode"
You will need to point to your existing SSID(your ISP Router WIFI) and then set a new SSID(On the Asus AC56).

6b) if you want to connect via Wired:
TP --wired--> Ont --wired --> ISP Router --wired--> Asus ac56 ~~wireless~~> your PC/devices
Choose "AP Mode"
this is a lot easier and you will get better speeds. Just set your own SSID(for the Asus ac56) and you are done.

Make sure Channels are different and it is best to have different SSID names.
eg: hamster and hamster_asus.

OH okay. I mistaken it for the router one which is Asus AC56U/AC56S.
you need to check your signal levels.

this is a bit different from what I can help you with as I never used an adapter before.

From theoretical perspective, you have to see your signal levels first.
If you have ever reached 1-2 bars at anytime, chances are something is conflicting/limiting your router signals. eg: walls, other 2.4ghz signals such as baby monitor, cordless phone...etc

If you always have constant full bars and at some time lose 1 bar but usually max, then maybe you are being disconnected then it might be that you were downloading at high speed and cause your router to not able to handle high download rate or something.

Happened to my singtel ISP router until I changed to an Asus Router which suppose to able to handle high data sessions.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

were you or anyone downloading when it disconnects?

if no, you should get it checked(RMA/Warranty)

frequent disconnect is a product quality issue, though it is not toally fail or not working.
it up 2u to insist for a rma, dat's e warranty for, if u dun wan, den nxt time buy from amazon better, asus is much cheaper selling from there.(for example , ac 53 now selling @ 29.99usb, sls selling ard 90+)

like what cool,man said, If you have full bars and you keep getting disconnections randomly and other devices are working fine and not getting disconnected at the same time. then there's almost 90% chance that the unit itself is faulty.

another way to try is to use the adapter on another PC/laptop and see if it gets disconnected
