Hi all,

I'm a new ipad user. I realized that quite alot of good apps comes with a cost. However i do not want to pay for something that i regret later on, so i am trying out the free apps.

Hope we can come up with a good list of recommended apps for this thread.

3. Funshion

Not a very organized way to kick it off...but I like the effort.

I'd recommend one paid app (4.99) which I downloaded yesterday and using now for photo manipulation.

If TS is willing to constantly update, he can update/edit the list in his first post into categories like games, productivity, video, etc.

Guys, if you're gonna recommend good apps, please at least write a short note about what that App does!


If you have an iPhone and want to use it (or the iPad as a wireless flash drive) download:

Phone Drive (free or paid)


Connect via bluetooth or WiFi.
This app is good cheap substitute for Wifi SD cards (e.g. Airstash) or Kingston Wi-Drive.

So you thought access to hardware level video decoding on the iPad was impossible without jailbreaking, esp. for 1080p mkv files.

Download:

It's Playing - $3.99


Copy the 1080p files into the app through iTunes.
Run the file in It's Playing.
Select Hardware Decoder.
It's very likely to play the file smoothly!
Also supports SMB file sharing.
Supports Gestures
Freestyle format resizing (yes...freestyle!)

Both plus many more.

1080p MKV, hardware decoding. Smooth as long as it meets the inbuilt mkv profiles. So far I've tried several mkv files (e.g. Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, The Artist, The Descendents, Dangerous Method) all played smoothly. All encoded in h.264

Avatar 1080p mp4 plays smoothly also.

No prior conversion necessary.
