iPad Warranty Question

Hi, for iPad warranty, does it start only when it's activated? Activated means when we log in on the iPad with our iTunes id?

I'm not familiar with Apple. Googled but can't find much info. There are many ppl selling iPad on Carousell which mentioned not activated. I check some of the serial number of some and shows a Estimated Expiration Date. Does it mean warranty starts from that date?
