Interactive Brokers usually recommended for overseas holdings.
Locally, I will pick DBS/CIMB/SCB.

No, Interactive Brokers charges a minimum monthly commission of US$10/month for accounts with a total value of at least US$2,000 and below US$100,000. Any/all trading commissions you have are deducted from that monthly minimum first. The monthly minimum commission does not apply within the first 3 months after account opening.

For example, let’s suppose your account has been open for 6 months already, and here are your trades:

January: bought some shares of Apple (AAPL), with a broker commission of US$3. Also converted some Singapore dollars to U.S. dollars, with a broker commission of US$4. And bought some IWDA (an exchange-traded fund) on the London Stock Exchange, broker commission US$8.

February: converted some Singapore dollars to U.S. dollars, broker commission US$3.

March: no trades

April: no trades

May: sold 100 shares of Apple, broker commission US$3. Converted U.S. dollars to Singapore dollars, broker commission US$4.

OK, in this example you would pay the following total commissions (assuming a total account value under US$100,000):

January: US$15

February: US$10

March: US$10

April: US$10

In January, your commissions exceeded the monthly minimum, so you pay only the commissions to the penny — the monthly minimum doesn’t apply in that month. In the other months, your commissions were either zero or below the monthly minimum, so you just pay the monthly minimum.

Look at the grand scheme of things, like savings on exchange rate and commission, $10 is nothing. This is assuming you are in your accumulating phase of your life and you will eventually hit 100K in couple of years.

Hi, can I just get this straight? Regardless of the stock holding by CDP or custodian, am I right to say this:

Online cheapest brokerage fee: SC
Prefunded cheapest brokerage fee: DBSV and UOB KH

Am I right? Thanks for advising

Means you put in lesser than 10k USD per year?
Because 10k USD per year would save enough on exchange rate alone, not to mention you can do many different stuff in IB.
Also, after 8-9 years, with 100k USD, can achieve what you need liao.

Bossu, you are making that comparison with SCB? Is it one way or two way exchange?

Ya, SCB. Can't remember it's 1 way or 2 way though.
