Actually this function is good. I think it's not about privacy just about online and offline. unless you got something to hide la.

ya. if your last online is sometime back, probably due to change of phone or not installing whatsapp back, at least your friend can expect the mssage not to be delivered promptly.

can i check with you guys?

i was messaging my friend.

his status on whatsapp for bb was online after i send him a msg at around 2000. however, he did not reply.

a few hours later at around 2300hrs, he replied and said that he just read the msg as his phone was dead earlier way before 2000.

i am just curios, why the online status and message put as delivered, when the phone was not even on at 2000. fyi: im using iphone.

anyone experience the same thing before?

If the message is important, do it via SMS.

Yes, very much agreed. Had experienced a couple of times, the msg from whatsapp is late by 3-4hrs.

So it can quite unreliable at time, but so far all my frens still use this and SMS.

Open up to the applications folder, and look for xxx-xxxx/whatsapp.app

Open up, you'll see a few .CAF, upload your file renamed into 1 of the .CAF and select that sound in your whatsapp settings.

Note that you need to redo this everytime you install whatsapp.

If you want to change the name of the alert tone, then edit Pushsounds.plist inside the English.lproj under whatsapp.app.

Guide to modify or add custom sound to Whatsapp

As a window user, you will need 3 software to help you
1) iphone folder allows you to access the folders on your iphone. If you have jailbroken the iphone, you also need to download and install afc2add from inside Cydia to access the system folders.
2) Plist editor allows you to edit the list of sound used by Whatsapp
3) wavepad from NCH Software (14 days trial, full function) allows you to change the sound you want into .caf file format that iphone uses.

1) Gather up all the sounds you want, in mp3 or whatever format. Use Wavepad to open these sound files, save as Apple AIFF format. Rename this sound file to .caf. For example my file was yoda.mp3, I saved as Yoda (Apple AIFF format), then rename to Yoda.caf. Note, if window disallow the .caf, nevermind, we can do the renaming in step 6.
3) Use iphonefolder to get down to User->Applications->WhatApps Folder->WhatsApp.app->English.Iproj find the PushSounds.plist file and drag onto your window desktop. It will ask if you want to convert etc, say no.

Note: At the Applicaition Folder there will have a lot of jibberrish, you need to identify WhatsApp via it's icon, You will understand what I mean when you drill down to find PushSounds.plist

4) Use Plist Editor to open up PushSounds.plist and add in your sound as shown in this image

5) move the modified PushSounds.plist back into the iphone

6) Copy your yoda.caf or whatever .caf file into the User->Applications->WhatApps Folder->WhatsApp.app folder. If in step 1 window disallow the renaming, lets say still at yoda.aif, nevermind, copy it into the iphone, THEN rename inside the iphone to yoda.caf to bypass the window os limitation.

7) Reboot your iphone and viola

Pioneer? Actually there were a few free text apps out before WhatsApp. Ping! comes to mind. However most were pretty laggy, unstable, and when WhatsApp first came out, it was actually pretty reliable. Maybe expanded too fast though, servers not up to the loads ...
